Flash Player loss of fluidity in videos

Hello,
I have been using flash player for a long time on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop (primarily on Internet Explorer 9). One thing I noticed around about Flash 11.6 / 11.7 is the video playback within windowed & full screen mode (regardless of whether hardware acceleration is enabled or not) has lost some fluidity. It is a little bit tricky to detect but the video playback is definitely not as butter smooth as it once was almost as if some frames get dropped. I checked the console for dropped frames and there are none reported though. So it is a little strange, I notice the slight lack of smoothness on BBC iPlayer (SD and HD videos) and on Youtube as they are really the only sites I use. I have no audio problems and am pretty convinced my laptop is not too blame. Upgrading Internet Explorer to versions 10 and 11 make no difference. Same performance. The videos are still watchable but I do detect it.
An interesting side note is that I also have Mozilla Firefox installed. For a long time this had Flash 11.2 installed and the video playback with this version was smooth as silk. I brought it upto date with 11.9 and notice the same slight loss of fluidity as I do in 11.9 in internet explorer. I suspect around 11.6 / 11.7 is when I picked up on the performance hit. Although since then I obediently update every month (as recommended practice). I hoped that at some point the player performance would have been improved/fixed with the next version but this doesn’t seem to be the case.
It is not my machine as it is a pretty powerful laptop running a sandybridge cpu with AMD Radeon 6970m gpu. I also have an integrated intel gpu on the sandybridge and switching to this makes no difference. Exactly the same performance, so that rules out GPU drivers. The laptop performs awesome under 3d mark benchmark tests and runs silverlight and HTML5 video fantastically. It is just the flash video performance that is proving to be a slight letdown.
Many thanks,
Wayne

Well I fixed it. I rolled back. Chose a version that I thought was ok - did 11.5 something or other. Totally fluid in IE9. I reinstalled the latest 11.9 in Mozilla and still was a bit choppy. I will keep Mozilla upto date and kind of use it to test flash performance. If a version ever comes out again which plays fluid then I will apply it to IE.
Bit cross though, why do Adobe have to do so many updates. Are they really necessary. If it ain't broke then don't fix it. They are all at it, adobe, Microsoft, apple - change for sake of change leaving a trail of carnage behind. I mean what does 11.9 do over 11.1 for example, some irrelevant under the hood changes which are of no interest to a basic user who just wants to be able to view a fluid video. Overkill if you ask me

  • Flash player crashes when opening a video

A user with Windows XP Pro (32 bit) appears to successfully install Flash Player, and short flash sequences embedded in web pages seem to display OK. But any time she tries to play a video from within a browser she gets the message "The Adobe Flash Player has crashed" and the video will not play.
We've tried uninstalling Flash Player then reinstalling in both Firefox and IE. Firefox 3.6.27, IE8, Shockwave Flash 11.2.102.55
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    David

It didn't work for me either:
Using FireFox 10.0.2 and Flash Player 11.1.102.62 (or any other combination that I have tried so far) on Windows 7 64 bit, after a few seconds of playing a YouTube video the video freezes up and after a few more seconds I get the frowny face with the message that Flash Player has crashed.  Several people have recommended disabling hardware acceleration but that didn't help.  The only way I can get it to play YouTube videos is to go to FireFox Plugins and disable the Shockwave plugin.  Now I can play YouTube videos, but some videos that come to me from other platforms pop up with the message:  "This plugin is disabled."
I used to be able to play all videos with no problem up to about two weeks ago. I don't want to have to restore to a previous time if I don't have to.
Also, when I use Internet Explorer I have no problems playing either YouTube of those from other sources.
I have seen a lot of questions on this problem but no good answers that have worked for me.
BTW, on each crash I clicked on reload and submit report, but don't know if it goes anywhere.

  • Adobe Flash Player 11.9.900.170 videos

I am having problems with the latest Flash Player 11.9.900.170 on Windows 7. I followed all the instructions after installation and everytime that I go to a website the Adobe Flash Player Settings box covers the video with "allow" or "deny". And no matter what I set the download setting, this box is always blocking the video and if I hit "allow" or "deny", nothing changes?

You can set  your storage settings here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.htm l
It is recommeded that you allow data to store temporarily for playback.

  • Flash player controls (for live streaming video) frozen...

    Hello,
Lion, Flash Player, and CNN's live-video player are not playing together nicely on our 2010 MBP 13". In fact, they're not playing.
Have tried the latest suggested fix, which is to right click on the errant video stream, then disable hardware acceleration. Unfortunately, right clicking brings up a "frozen" settings box. None of the buttons can be clicked, not even cancel.
Have accessed Flash Player through the Control Panel, but there is no switch there for hardware acceleration.
Bottom line, am now unable to view live video content from CNN and others.
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash. Have tried Safari, Firefox and Chrome. And am not a step closer to a solution. Was hopeful that today's install of Lion would set things right, but alas...
    Your suggestions greatly appreciated.

About a half-hour after making the changes I outlined above, and long after I closed the active Safari window, noticed that my MBP was uncharacteristically hot. Extremely hot!
Opened Activity Monitor and saw that Flash Player was still running (?) and using a tremendous amount of system resources. I then quit Safari altogether. Within moments, the heat began to subside.
May be something you want to keep an eye on...

  • Flash player won't play CNN video

Please help, I'm at my wits end. I've been working on this issue for a few weeks. I have Win7 / IE8 / FP 11.3.300.270
The problem is my flash player simply refuses to play videos from CNN. Everything else works fine. I've uninstalled and installed at least 100 times-nothing. I've set and reset all the settings suggested by Adobe.com-nothing. I've read and re-read forums in Google, Adobe and anything else I can find on the 'net-nothing.
This has become increasingly frustrating. Please help!!

I see the player open and all the periphreals load then I get a red circle in the middle of the player that says loading. When that stops the screen is just black-no video or sound...

  • Flash player upgrade screws up BBC Video?

This morning I've lost the ability to play video material from the BBC site, such as the Forecast Vid on http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/
Repeats etc on BBC iplayer play ok. This is only on one desktop in the house. Another desktop works as normal. I don't know if it's significant or not that the problem one had a Flash upgrade this morning to 10.1.82.76
The ok system is on 10.1.53.64
(right click the vid display and click About Flash player... to see what version you have)
    Youtube plays fine on both.
Is anyone else suffering these symptoms?

Doh.... messing in the Macromedia settings page I had set the storage level to zero back to normal again. The Flash u/g was coincidental. Thanks for the responses guys.

  • Flash player not working on embedded videos

    Hi
This week my computer stopped playing embedded videos (from vimeo) on my website. The window appears with the normal titles but no video.http://www.vevideo.ie/wedding.htm, only a small box in the top left hand corner.
My computer will play videos on vimeo etc no problem. I also noticed the same problems with  a friends blog site, some of the videos I couls see and play, others no http://erolmedia.blogspot.com/
I uninstalled my flash player and reinstalled 10.1 with no difficulty. The problem  remains
I use 32bit windows vista business and Internet Explorer 8
    Thanks

  • Flash Player crashes when watching online video on Win 7

    Hi.
I have just built a new machine and it's got a pretty good spec but I've been having this problem since I installed windows 7.
I have tried 64-bit first and then 32-bit version but still had the same problem.
I can be watchingonline content such as a programme on BBC iplayer or 4OD ( or any other site you'd care to mention) and at some point the whole screen freezes and i'm left with no choice but to press the reset button.
I'm fairly confident that i've narrowed this problem down to flash player (but not 100% sure).
This will occur several time per day & is driving me nuts. Everything else about the machine works great but online videos are a nightmare.
    Any suggestions anyone?
Your help will be much appreciated.
    P.S.
Yes I do have the latest version flash player.

    Hi.
    No, nothing works.
Just went in to event viewer and it's saying something about an atikmdag error.
Been googling and this seems to be linked to ati video cards.
also stuff about Kernel 41 error but from what i can figure out.. this is a very generalised error.
Maybe it's not flash? But why does it only happen during streaming?
    Getting wound up with this.
Want to buy a new videocard to see if that would work but i can't afford to waste the money if its not the problem.
Why didn't i just buy a basic Dell?

Firefox 7 is very out of date now. I'm not sure it's possible to say what issues it might have with the current version of Flash.
Also, version 7 is not secure; Mozilla discloses [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html security flaws] after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 24? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.
With respect to Flash itself, here is some standard guidance that addresses the most common reasons for Flash problems in Firefox. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)

  • I updated my software and now, even though I installed an updated Flash player, I can't see videos with Safari. Help?

I updated my software and now I get the message blocked plug-in whenever I try to watch video in Safari. I installed the new Flash player but it still doesn't work. I've checked my plug-ins and uninstalled/reinstalled but nothing works. What can I do? Help

Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.
Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.
On March 1 Apple again blocked Flash Player for Lion and Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5660
The Adobe Flash patch can be found on Adobe’s website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent version.
You should uninstall any previous version first, and repair permissions after installing the new version.
If you still get a ‘plug-ins blocked’ message:
