Flash player mac - high cpu load

why does flash player produce such a high cpu load under Mac OS X? I have a MacBook 2,1 w/ an Intel Core 2 Duo cpu. When I watch a tiny youtube movie in any browser, the fan gets really loud, and activity monitor shows 50% cpu load.

Hi ... I use admin account only to install new software or games ... for all other uses I log in as an ordinary account
But even when logged in with admin account the same prb persists ... cause of this flash player prb I have even stopped playing  games on FB & Zynga ...
For this flash player problem I even took it to acer service center and since I have extended service warranty the engineers there ran acomplete check on ram, hdd, graphic card and they also did a complete fresh install of win 7 home premium 64 bit edition. They even completely serviced it, cleaned it and applied new thermal paste ...  but even they were baffled that my system can stand up to high intensity graphic games running from HDD or DVD rom or USB pen drive but if I try to run graphic flash player games for long ie castleville or watch a long movie on you tube then flash player can single handedly cause CPU usage to be constantly high leading to system getting heated up.
Guess will just have to be content without flash ... but some sites require flash player to be enabled and therein lies the problem

  • Flash player and high cpu load again

    It is that time again.  Nothing new to report, it appears others have the same problem, so I copied a couple of comments posted last year by nationfam1 that accurately describe the problem.  The only difference for me is that I almost exclusively use Firefox.
    "Why does flash player demand so much cpu usage all of a sudden when a year or so ago it did not do so and worked better on FF 3 different browsers? I now use Firefox version 24.0 28.0  and IE 10 and when I watch a video or play a game Flash player all but crashes my computer by using almost all of the power of my CPU!
    ...when I am on Firefox and try to watch a video or play a stupid game to relax I cannot hardly do so because Adobe Flash Player sucks up all the CPU and RAM to operate. Why do two instances of Adobe Flash Player run when I am playing one game in one tab and only have one window open. It did not use to do this. I was asked for feedback on one of the games and I told them it would be nice if the utility that the game was based off of did not screw it up all the time. Have you not read in these forums where it has caused people's computer to overheat to the extent of crashing..."
    I have updated FF (build # 28.0) and the plugins but no success, does anyone have a suggestion or two?
    Regards

  • Flash causes very high CPU load (including high Xorg load)

    Hello everybody,
    this is my first message. I'm an Arch user since a few months, and I'm pretty sure this is the distribution I'll stick to - I pratically love everything about it, especially its simpleness. It's the first Linux that doesn't scare me away with tons of configuration files scattered around dozens of different locations. I've already gotten quite a number of things fixed by myself without even looking at the forum or wiki.
    Well, it seems most of these statements can be found in most first forum posts, so I'll stop to bore you...
    The problem: Playing flash videos or animations causes incredible processor load: Even youtube takes a whole CPU core (or even a little more), top shows around 80% for Xorg and around 20-30% for Firefox (a little less with Opera). I'm on Arch64 with XFCE, Athlon X2 4600+, NVidia 8200 chipset (which has severe driver problems anyway; I'm using the latest NVidia beta driver). I'd try the open source nvidia driver, but (it seems that) there's no support for my chipset yet.
    Currently I'm using Adobe's Flash64 alpha, before that I used various versions fo the nspluginwrapper. 32-bit Flash also caused high CPU load, but it wasn't that much and it may have been related to nspluginwrapper rather than anything else; however I have got the impression that things became even worse with the switch to the x64 alpha (performance-wise; on the other hand, it at least loads faster and doesn't crash anymore). Like said before, youtube takes one core, but it mostly works ok then, but videos with higher resolutions that youtube's are practically impossible to watch (except when there is very little movement in the film). Neither Flash hardware acceleration on nor off makes any difference.
    I've already read half of the web, searched in forums, wikis, etc., but didn't find anybody with the same problem. When Flash64 was released and people were reporting good improvements, I was hoping it would be the same for me...
    What I'm looking for is suggestions of things to try... I'm out of ideas what to try and where to look. It just seems strange that I seem to have problems that others don't...
    Thanks for reading and for any comments.

    Really funny. The internet is a small place, obviously. Us meeting in a Linux forum also explains why nobody writes to the LSML anymore.

  • Flash Player using high CPU constantly and heating system

    Hi I am in India ... from last few months I am noticing that Flash Player is using too much CPU when ever I run IE, Explorer or opera ... when I disable Flash Player then IE and opera work on normal CPU ... I have uninstalled Chrome since I was unable to disable flash player on it ... I have 2nd generation i5 .. 3gb ram ... dedicated 1gb nvidia graphics card ... 750 Gb hdd ... win7 home premium 64 bit ... I am able to easily play Crysis 2 ... halo ... far cry ... wolfenstein 2009 and many more intense graphic games on my laptop without over heating it ... but flash player causes excessive CPU constant use and system to over heat if I watch a complete movie on you tube ... any other compatible player available plz do tell ..... rgds

  • Flash Player Causing high CPU usage NT Kernel

    Hi
    I have windows 7 with Firefox 26 and noticed that the NT Kernel and system process is running my cpu at 50% - I have a dual core.
    After some research and testing I have realised that it is flash causing it when a site opens like Ebay for exapmple.
    If I deactivate the plugin all is fine - cpu at about 7 - 20%.  Ebay etc will ask to activate the plugin and the CPU jumps.
    Same thing with other flash sites. Facebook etc
    No issues with the other browsers - Chrome and IE.
    I have tried uninstalling flash and firefox - and then doing a clean install but not fixed.
    I tried posting on the firefiox forum and they recommended to come here.
    Any thoughts?

    No that would be too much pain I think - copying everything across again.
    No, no, no... I mean create a new admin account JUST FOR THE PURPOSE of testing the installer. It'd be a totally blank, empty account.
    THAT'S the best way to determine if your account has permissions issues. If the installer and Flash Player works, as it does on your wife's account, you'll know where the trouble lies... in your account, which may or may not mean you have to move everything over. If this isn't something "liveable", then move stuff. If it IS liveable, then I wouldn't bother.

  • High CPU load with Flash on Mac Leopard

    Dear Adobe,
    I am always running the latest version of the Flash plugin on my Macbook. Ever since even with the simplest Flash movies running in a browser (no matter whether Safari, Firefox, Camino, Opera, ...) the CPU load jumps oh so high the fans will spin at full speed and the CPU starts to create subtropic temperatures. Years ago I was running a Windows PC where the CPU load wasn't even close to such high CPU loads. Oh so many Apple users would very very much appreciate Flash Player being at least close to as efficient as the Windows version.
    Thanks in advance for making Flash movies more enjoyable on the Mac platform

    Adobe need to realize that once their great product with a lot of penetration into the web ad + ria market is starting loose its ground as they simply can't address ongoing issue on their poor flash plug-in performance other than on windows platform. There are a lot of flash enthusiast out there but this poor support from the Adobe doesn't help this much further. One of the reasons why other software vendors pushing for more open standard RIA platforms other than Flash based...
    Only suggestion that I have with Adobe is that if you can not get it right then, it may help to open up flash player source to the community. I am pretty sure that there are a lot of developers out there who can help out to drive better code base for the player and in turn make flash more adopted by non non ms windows user base. At the moment, I have installed "Click2Flash" and "FlashBlock" to save majority of CPU cycle on my MacBook Pro. Imagine the impact on this for future Adobe product. All online ad will slowly move away from flash based and in turn loosing entire market share it has successfully built over the years... Well must note that MS isn't much better either... MS RDP client is permanently turned off from my system, now I'm using CoRD instead..
    I sincerely hope to see some major performance improvements in near future.

  • High CPU load kills ethernet connection

    Short spikes in CPU load (MenuMeters installed) are constantly killing my internet connection.
    I use an ethernet connection with a cable modem (Motorola SB 4200 E) and have a MB 2 CD, 2 GB of RAM and OS X 10.4.9.
    After the ethernet connection is killed, only a complete re-start can fix the problem (and today alone I had to do something like 15 of them already).
    These sudden spikes in CPU load can be caused by all different kinds of activity, e.g.
    1.) playing back video files which my machine has problems dealing with (like .mkv files),
    2.) playing back 'regular' .avi files,
    3.) browsing the net (Camino, Safari, Opera, Firefox) and displaying flash content (just watching something on youtube creates a CPU load which kills the connection regularly),
    4.) any kind of activity which asks a high CPU load in general.
    It seems that the problem is caused by the CPU load in general, not by any particular application which causes the high workload.
    What I have tried:
    1.) PRAM reset
    2.) Apple Hardware Test (extended, loop)
    3.) de-installed Flash player
    4.) created a new user (admin)
    5.) made a clean 10.4.11 install on an external USB drive and booted from there
    6.) used Airport instead of the ethernet/cable modem
    7.) checked system temperatures (which are ok)
    8.) changed/exchanged/checked the RAM
    9.) made enough free disk space on my HD (15 GB)
    10.) repaired disk permissions
    but to no avail.
    Any help would be very much appreciated (since I'm ready to get a MS machine and wave my Mac good bye).
    Kind regards
    FC

  • Flashplayer 11.3 high cpu load + stutters

    Hey all, I recently updated my Flash Player Plugin for Firefox to version 11.3.300.268. This results in a high CPU load for the Flash Player process like 30 to 40 percent with a 480p YouTube video and some higher percentages when watching flash video on other websites. The highest percentage must have been like 70% while watching a simple flash video on another website. This high CPU load is not the only problem. The video/audio stutters from time to time and especially when you open a new website, even light ones like Google.com. This problem occurred before but at that time I downgraded my version to flashplayer11_1r102_63_win_32bit.exe which is the latest version of Flash that is working correctly on my system.
    Some specs:
    Windows Vista Home 32-bit
    Intel Celeron M530
    Intel 965 Express Chipset with latest installable drivers via HP website (7.15.10.1839)
    Firefox 14.0.1.
    Possible solutions that had no effect:
    Turning off HW acceleration in Flash settings.
    Turning off HW acceleration in Firefox settings.

    Same issue here. I'm going to downgrade as well, as it's making watching embedded videos very frustrating.

  • High CPU load with nfs4

    Has anyone noticed a high cpu load when transferring over nfs4.
    My arch box has a dual core amd with 4 gig of ram.  It has a rocketraid 2320 card being used for a 8 1TB mdadm raid 6.
    I am transferring from ubuntu -> arch box.  I am noticing high cpu on both sides.  I dont know if its an nfs issue or what.
    On the arch side I am seeing high usage from nfsd , flush-9:0, and an mdadm process.  Both cores are sitting around 50%.
    Anyone run into this or know if its an issue with nfs4? or maybe different nfs versions of ubuntu and arch.
    Thanks.

  • Problem... High CPU load with HDD. Please Help

    Hello all,
    Im stuck. Ive got a MSI KA790GX which has poor HDD access/transfer, low burst rate and very high CPU load.
    As far as i know the Western Digital 640gb WD6401AALS Black should be a fast hard drive. Which according to reviews/HD Tune,
    should be:-
    Minimum 60mb/sec
    Maximum 120mb/sec
    Average 95mb/sec
    Access 12ms
    Burst 110mb/sec
    CPU 5%
    No matter what I try, i always get poor results...
    My MSI KA790GX
    Minimum 41mb/sec ~ 54mb/sec
    Maximum 104mb/sec ~ 108mb/sec
    Average 86mb/sec ~89mb/sec
    Access 12ms
    Burst 60mb/sec ~ 80mb/sec
    CPU 26% ~ 44%!!!!!!!!
    I could accept not getting the same high speed results as the review/reference, even if the burst rate sucked.
    But one of the cores goes to 50%-60% load during hdd activity. Thats just crazy!!
    I have tried...
    IDE mode, AHCI, RAID Ready, RAID Single Disk
    SATA Port 1, 2, 3, 4 + 5
    Different SATA cables
    Flashed bios, cleared bios, optimised defaults, failsafe defaults
    Windows XP 32bit, Vista 32bit, Vista 64bit. fresh installs
    MSI CD Drivers, MSI Web Drivers, AMD/ATI Web Drivers
        ... and combinations of.
    I have also tested the WD640gb Black on another older PC, with Nvidia (55?) chipset and slower (1.9ghz x2) cpu.
    Transfer rates were slightly better than my KA790GX but, Burst Rate = 115mb/sec and CPU usage = 13%.
    I also tried a Seagate 1.5tb (ST31500341AS) on both PCs,
    Nvidia chipset
    Minimum 65mb/sec
    Maximum 134mb/sec
    Average 107mb/sec
    Access 14ms
    Burst 83mb/sec
    CPU 7%
    On my MSI KA790GX
    Minimum 55mb/sec
    Maximum 120mb/sec
    Average 100mb/sec
    Access 14ms
    Burst 87mb/sec
    CPU 33%!!!!
    Could someone please please help, ive spent hours and hours on this. Its doin my head in.
    I just hope its something stupid ive missed, cos i still not used my HD4850 from christmas :-(
    Thanks.

    Sm3K3R
    Not sure how to check PIO/DMA mode on a SATA device. IDE devices show DMA enabled.
    BIOS version 1.4 - 29 December 2008, and now version 1.51
    Fredrik
    I have Vista 64, but i did try XP32 and Vista32 and got similar poor results.
    I tested HDD speed with, HD Tune 2.55 and HD Tune 3.50 trial.
    No auto-start programs really, Windows clean installs + any drivers.
    Quadrifoglio Verde
    CPU @ default 2800mhz, All mem bios options to auto/defaults
    Windows Experience Index, CPU Score = 5.3
    AMD Overdrive
     Integer Computation = 8220
     Floating Point Computation = 5325
     Memory speed = 1770
     Cache Speed = 10790
     System Performance = 7403
    Bas
    I used HDTune because I could reference to other results. Whats a better program to use?
    Windows Experience Index, HDD Score = 5.9.
    But I have no reference and cant be sure of cpu load.
    Sepher
    Bios defaults to C&C and C1E off so i have tried them. Also windows power settings, balanced/high performance.
    UPDATE
    Reinstalled Vista64 but loaded the AHCI driver from the disk config screen. This seems to have stopped the high cpu usage during disk activity.
    HDTune with Windows Power settings @ High Performance,
    Min = 52mb/sec
    Max = 106mb/sec
    Ave = 88mb/sec
    Access = 12ms
    Burst = 77mb/sec
    CPU = 3.4%
    HDTune with Windows Power settings @ Balanced
    Min = 54mb/sec
    Max = 104mb/sec
    Ave = 87mb/sec
    Access = 12ms
    Burst = 65mb/sec
    CPU = 12%
    So now transfer speed is about 10% slower than reference. But burst speed is terrible.
    I also used IBM Feature Tool to change the HDD AAM to 'performance mode' 254 as suggested elsewhere.
    Long shot as the hdd performs ok with other hardware. same results.
    Also MSI support asked me to try a newer bios, version 1.51. same results.
    Anyone know what the AMD 7-Series Chipsets Disk Performance Utility does, and should i run it in Vista64?
    Thanks for all the replies, hope i can sort this, not played any PC games since Quake 3 on my ti4600...

  • High CPU load

    We use vSphere 5.5 with latest updates, Web Client and the VMware Remote Console 7.0.1. But we have problems on our Citrix Terminalserver (Windows 2012 R2): When we close a Remote Console, the prozess "vmrc.exe" didn´t disappear and causes a high CPU load (one complete core). This happens when we use the IE, Chrome or Firefox.
    I don´t know why this happens, have anyone an idea? Thank you!

    One thing to check is that there isn't some other process running in the background which is also using a lot of the CPU. Open Activity Monitor and select "All Processes" at the top and "CPU" on the bottom bar. If you find some process other than the BOINC that is using a lot of the CPU, highlight it and quit it and see if this helps.
    If you haven't already, install iStatPro from the Apple site and keep an eye on your computer temperatures and on your fans. As long as your fans are working properly, they should keep your processor cool enough to not overheat.
    It might also be worth investing in a chill mat, just to help keep your Mac cool overnight.
    Good luck!

  • Kernel task over 100%. High CPU Load. High Temp. Problem Solved.

    Hi,
         I thought i would make a post as i had been having trouble with my 13 inch mid 2009 MBP for sometime (6 months), with runaway kernel tasks causing high CPU loads. I had searched through forums and discussions for a long time trying to find the problem and isolate it. Initially i discovered some problems with finder preferances that were chewing up CPU which i solved by deleting the prefereance file, allowing the system to recreate a non corrupted version. This helped but still i had problems. I tried maintainance suites like onyx, reseting PRAM, booting into safe mode, hardware checks and diagnostics, and more little tricks than i can remember. Nothing i tried really seemed to make a differance. Through reading on this forum and others i found out the kernel tasks can be a direct result of hi CPU core temps as the system runs a lot of small kernel tasks to try and take some of the CPU load away from processor intensive processes that may be contributing to hi CPU load. The thing which solved my problem in the end was opening up my MBP, being careful not to touch the logic board and literally puting my vacuum cleaner over the fan, sucking dust and dirt and dust out of my latop. This computer has been through the dirt with me, literally its been dragged through rural south east asia for a year and accompianied me to warhouse parties to perform and run lighting and visuals. Its little wonder the fan was obviously clogged. I know people tend to be holier than though with their mac products and treat them with the upmost respect, but my love for the MBP has come from how sturdy and reliable it has been under less than desirable conditions.
    Now im not telling people this is what they should do, i had just noticed alot of people with this problem in my attempts to solve mine, and in the end this is what helped. My MBP now runs at a temperature where i can touch the metal near the CPU without being worried about a 3rd degree burn and the CPU load is acceptable with no run away kernel tasks. Like i saw this might not be the cause of your porblem, as my laptop has lived a rough and fun life so far, but i thought i would share this with you all as i have had contstant help from this forum and others searches for solutions to problems with my apple products.

    Already tried SMC and PRAM-reset with no luck.
    On my MacBook late 2008 it's the same effect.

  • High CPU load and com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2 crash after upgrade

    After upgrading my Macbook Air from Lion to Mountain Lion, the system has a very high cpu load, and the crash reporter is the process that causes thee high load. In the error log I see this entry several times per second:

    I investigated a bit more and recovered, that it has something to do with the printer drivers. When I remove all printers from setting, everything is fine. As soon as I add a printer (Brother MFC 9440CN printer/scanner, printer driver provided by Mountan Lion), the crash reporter starts it's work and the error log is full of those entries.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marcus

    I did more exploration and found the cause of this, but I don't know how to fix it:
    I removed all Brother and Lexmark printer drivers and rebooted (and also tested with a virtual machine using 10.8.0 as guest os that never had any printer installed). As soon as I enter the printer settings and press the "+", the crashes begin, so it looked like the bonjour one of the printers announcing themselves via Bonjour were causing this.
    When watching a picture in the preview app the same happend. We have two multi function printers in our network, the already mentioned brother printer and a Lexmark X204N. Switching off the Lexmark (which wasn't installed on my Mac) solved the problem. Switching off the printer is no solution in our office (it's our fax device and main printer), but switching off mDNS on the Lexmark also solved it. But this can only be a workaround.
    Is this a known problem with Lexmark devices and Mountain Lion (it works fine with machines using Lion)? Are there any fixes known? It's just the Lexmark device announing itself via Bonjour that causes trouble, even if the driver is not installed.

  • Too high cpu load with HP 6510b

    Hello guys,
    I have a very high cpu load on my laptop even if nothing despite htop is running. I guess it's a problem with acpi because when I deactivate acpi completely over the bootline I have no such problems.
    How could I fix that?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello B,
    unluckily noacpi doesn't help but acpi=off. That seems to be the only way to stop the high load.
    Is there any patched acpi or something else?
    I also think I picked the bad revision with fan problems and some more...
