Flash player performance in standalone Openbox

Hi, I recently switched from using full GDE setup, with Firefox web browser on my 64-bit Arch linux, to using a standalone Openbox X session. With my previous setup, flash plugins was working fine (not as smooth as on Windows, but still ok), but after making this change, flash playback on for instance YouTube, it's so choppy, it's not watchable.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this problem?

  • Why Flash player performance is better than Player comes with Adobe air ?

I built an Adobe Air application that played Video and working awesome on PC. now when i tried to start working on Tablet Version, What I found is
    1. When i played 1 MB video file from Local , Audio and Video are not in sync and very disturbing. (not able to play a file more tha 2 Mb)
I created only video player using OSMF in the app. there is nothing else that can hamper the performace.
    2. When i played same video using Web based Flex Application. It works perfectly
    3. I tried with StageWebView in Adobe air  and Results are equivelent to Web Version.
I am using Adobe Air 3.1  which is shipped with Flash Player 11.1, Then where things went Wrong.
Why I can't get the same performance in Air App?
IS AIR THE RIGHT CHOICE TO BUILD MOBILE APP?
IS THAT POSSIBLE TO GET NATIVE PLAYER/WEB VERSION LIKE PERFOMANCE (OR CLOSED TO) USING ADOBE AIR?
    In addition,
I tried to read about encoding and other white papers. But basic thing that troubled me is, If Web Version is fine then why Air is not able to give the same performance.
    Hardware configuration : 1G processer,
    OS : Android 4.0.3
    Thank you in advance.

What games are you trying?  Which browser do you use and have you tried an alternative browser to see if they are also impacted?

  • Poor Flash Player Performance in Mozzilla Firefox

    Hello!
I have recently noticed that Adobe Flash Player has very bad performance in Mozzilla Firefox. The most common issue is with 4K YouTube videos. I have a GTX 770 graphics card, so there should not be any problem with these videos, and there is not any problem in other browsers. But for some reason, I get very low framerates in Firefox while watching 4K videos. I tried to reinstall Flash Player, but it did not help me. I have the latest stable Nvidia drivers.
What can cause the bad performance?

  • Flash Player performance slowness and mouse lag

I've been having this problem for a while.  I already did the usual google searching and didn't find anything useful.  Specifically its games I play on kongregate and other sites.  When they are using flash player I tend to get poor performance.  If it uses a mouse cursor the mouse lags/skips across the flash player window, when it leaves the flash player area the lag doesn't occur. I dont have problems when I'm in games or general responsiveness of the system, I've plenty of space, low processor utilization, low memory utilization, etc etc.
I have windows 8.1, IE11, the latest flash player, video and system drivers are all the latest and greatest.  I've found articles suggesting to turn on/off hardware/software gpu acceleration in IE, it also occurs in Firefox.
    ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try this. Which browser (and version) are you using? My question was as much about the performance of Flash player in a 64 bit environment as it was about the video playback hardware performance. I'm sceptical of the shared video memory and throughput performance of the Intel-based 4500HD graphics package in my laptop. I'm worried that it might not be sufficient for full-screen flash video playback, or for large external displays, so I'm trying to explain the poor platback performance that I'm seeing, and hopefully show that it's not the fault of the video HW.
Which video HW do you have in your dell?
    Thanks

  • Flash player performance

    Hi
I noticed that the flash player takes a lot of cpu performance on one of my pc's
I'm wondering if it's using any h/w acceleration or not.
Is there a way i can check this?
    Regards
    Erwin Beckers

How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?
If hardware acceleration is checked and CPU usage is high, Flash Player is using software rendering because your video adaptor or drivers are not good enough for hardware acceleration.

  • Flash Player 11.x standalone - weird fps issue

    Hey there,
    Windows 7
    Flash Player 11.1 and 11.2 - 64bits
    FlashDevelop + FlexSDK 4.5.1
Since 2 or 3 weeks ago, when I launch my standalone Flash Player, it's often really really slow for no apparent reason. If I set my project to run at 60 fps, it will stuck between 25 and 32 fps, for maybe 30-40 seconds, then maybe it will speed up to 60 fps, even if the project is actualy emtpy - nothing at all, just an empty document class. I started noticing this when I first start playing around with the stage3D but as I said, it happens even with a blank project.
I observed something really weird. Let say my standalone runs slow at 32 fps, then if I simply open Google Chrome besides it, then the standalone start running at 60 fps !!
The problem is the same with FP11.1 or 11.2. It doesn't seems to happens with the browser plugin, though I would have to double-check that.
Any help is welcome, as this problem is really annoying when developing!
    Thanks
    rb

Having more or less exactly the same issues with Stage3D, regardless of if the flash runs in a stand alone Projector or in IE. As soon as Chrome is started the FPS goes up to 60 and closing Chrome drops it down to around 40.
Did you or anyone else find a solution for this issue?
    Thanx!

  • Firefox Continuous Key Pressing Flash Player Game

I keep having this issue while I play Realm of the Mad God in Firefox. I recently migrated over to Firefox from Chrome for the better flash player performance for this game. Unfortunately, almost every time I hold down a key, such as the W key to go up, and release it, I will keep going that direction in-game even though I have let go of the key. I can replicate the error in these steps:
    1. Hold down "A" key for 3 seconds while playing Realm of the Mad God.
    2. Release "A" key.
    3. Character will continue to move left even though I have let go of the "A" key.
This may be lag, but I get 60 FPS in the game, and my friend has a quality computer that has the same issue. Any way to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.

Some have reported that pressing F9 and the Windows key simultaneously one or more times has worked to fix issues with the keyboard not working.

  • Flash Player / Air telemetry data ?

    Hello Adobe and Community
What about to add a telemetry data function to Flash Player & Air similar to Mozilla's about:telemetry / metrics.mozilla.com  ?
    - OS / Version / Patch Level
    - CPU / GPU / RAM / Chipset / ...
    - Audio / Video / Chipset Drivers
    - Browser / Version / Settings
    - Flash Player Version / Settings
    - DirectX / OpenGL / ...
    - Display / Resolution / FPS / CPU&GPU load
It should/could be added as an opt-in UI into the installers or on first use.
    Reason:
To get better performance feedback from the "real world" to make it smoother on low end devices.

Thanks for the suggestion.  The adoption of the Beta Channel over the last few months has been phenomenal, and we have a large enough population to do highly accurate sampling and A/B testing.
We're actively designing and approach and corresponding infrastructure to gain new insight into Flash Player performance in the field.
    Best regards,

  • How uninstall flash player 9

Previously i  have used flash player 9 recently ihave installed flash player 10.  But when i opened swf files these are opened in flash player 9. And how it opend  always in flash player heighest  version.

Do you mean local swf files, and open them in the standalone Flash Player?
The standalone Flash Player is not automatically installed when you install the browser add-ons, you have to download it separately.

  • Flash Player 9 and Safari MacOSX

Have you been experiencing inconsistent flash player
performance on a mac running safari, but works fine in mozilla? I
tried all the solutions out there, reinstalled the flash player,
reinstalled shockwave, repaired permissions, removed preferences in
safari and flash, none of them worked. Flash player would work in
some websites and not in others. If you're like me and all else
fails, check to make sure that you only have the most current
version of flash player plug-in in your internet plug-ins folder.
The adobe flash player uninstaller does not remove older
versions, in particular version 8 from this folder, so it seems
that safari gets confused as to which player is chosen on websites.
Go into your Macintosh HD / Library / Internet Plug-Ins / ... there
you might find two flash player plug-in files. Trash the older one
and keep the most current, at this point it's "Flash Player.plugin"
with the folder icon and version 9.0.115.0.
I hope this helps the frustrated flash player user.

    Hi Robin
I noticed this too - but haven't yet found where they are kept.
I notice that in the Flash 'settings manager' the amount of used storage shows as very low for each site - it doesn't reflect the sometimes large swfs that have been loaded. Also going back to a page seems to make the entire flash content be reloaded again - which wasn't the case before, as I recall.

  • Flash player in iphone missing

My iphone 4 says flash player is not installed while opening some sites. How shall I install one?

Ya I've read it. Have you re-read it recently though? It's amazing how mean spritied that letter is. From what I know I think that most people agree that it was just a personal vendetta by Steve Jobs. I don't recall a CEO ever coming out and just attacking a technology like he did with this letter.
The other thing is that most of his points are actually even true, and nearly all of them are no longer true if they were when this was written. I've used both the Flash platform as well as the open standards for years now. They are both good and are useful for specific things. To just block Flash is not right and it hurts developers who cannot get their content viewed in the mobile apple browser.
Anyway, again I'm not trying to be a "troll" or whatever else ends up getting tossed at people who question the Steve Jobs dogma. What I'm saying though is that Adobe has done a whole lot to play nice and Apple has done nothing. Similarly, the latest version of Flash player performs a lot better than html5 and is fully hardware accellerated. There's no reason for Apple to block Flash any more and I've seen a lot of nonsense on these forums where people are just downright mean about it.
Here are some points from Steve Jobs' letter that are not true:
    1. Flash is not as "closed and proprietary" as Jobs claimed. The AVM+ has been submitted to the mozilla foundation, Flex and AIR sdks are open source and free. There are even open source, free tools for creating swf content.
    2. Apple is actually quite closed an proprietary with it's app store, itunes, it's software and hardware, and has been having record profits as a result (which I do not think is bad, I'm just saying).
    3. Flash player supports not only H.264 video but a lot of other video formats. It also allows developers to fully customize the video playback exerience to be however they want it to be, not just simple playback in a video player. He said people aren't missing much video, but they are. I can't see videos on websites on my iPad probably half of the time.
    4. Apple did not provide Adobe with the necessary hardware hooks for it's platform in order to adequately perform on mobile devices. Adobe pointed this out but was basically ignored. Either way, the latest version of Flash is secure and fast and really great. Jobs' wrote this letter and really attacked Adobe's platform at that time while it was literally in development; not cool.
    5. Users should have access to video whether it is hardware or software decoded, regardless of effects on battery life. However, Apple could easily work with adobe to bring hardware acceleration to non H.264 video. Again Jobs made this claim about Flash when he has in his power to address this, but he didn't (purposefully?).
    6. Flash DOES support touch and always has. Touch events in Flash translate straight into click events without recoding. The only limitation is that there is no roll-over, but that is not even a major feature of Flash. Flash also supports touch gestures, swipes, pinches, zooms, etc. Also, when Flash was originally created it was actually intended for tablet computers, which makes Jobs' PC claim pretty ironic. Jobs said this was the "most important" reason, but it is completely untrue and makes zero sense.
    7. Jobs claimed that he was trying to not allow a third party to come in between developers and the platform. Well, he is actually doing just that by blocking all third party developers from accessing his platform at all. There is nothing about Flash in a browser that has anything to do with native development. Rather, the Flash platform would allow MORE developers to provide content to Apple users as well as allow users to view MORE already created content. Jobs also claimed that a third party might somehow limit platform features until other platforms have them. This makes no sense at all as things like Flash simply make features available or unavailable depending on the platform that it is being run on. Again, this is unrelated to native coding but Jobs asserts that this is somehow the same thing. It's apples and oranges.
    8. Jobs again claims that Adobe only just supported hardware acceleration on the latest version of OS X. That was because Apple has only just then allowed Adobe the required hooks to access the hardware.
    9. Jobs makes the claim that "flash is no longer necessary" to do a number of different things. It simply does not make sense that the addition of features on one technology should be reason to block an entire technology that still offers many unique features and lots of available content. It simply does not make sense outside of some sort of weird personal vendetta.
    10. Lastly, Jobs at the very end makes a very mean spirited quipp about how Adobe should make open source tooling. This is a direct offensive statement against Adobe's technology and hard work. On top of it, Adobe actually has done exactly that, that is how fair they are and support of the freedom of choice in the marketplace.
So again, I say all this stuff not a some "troll" or a "tool" or whatever else I might get called on here. I say it because on almost every single point in Steve Jobs' letter he is flat out wrong or dishonest or something that I don't know what to call. It's not right, it's not fair, and Apple really needs to change to address this because it's bad policy.
    Thanks,
    David H.

  • Where the hell is that old flash player?

    Hi guys,
I'm new here , just wanted to ask you a question.
last years I had an old flash player that was standalone and
I run flash games and other swf files with that.
but not only me , I see lots of other people want that old
    standalone flash player.
It had an black icon with a white F on it.
please let me know how can i get it.
    thanks.

There never was standalone player for download. It only comes
    exclusively with the installation
of Flash application. Publicly available players are only
browser based. If you have an old Flash app,
then you can get the player. That's the only way to have
    standalone, installing Authoring flash program.
By the way, when you say "lots of other people...", what you
mean? I see this post first time
in the forum... Perhaps you use wrong phrasing and the thing
you are looking for is not Standalone
    Player?

  • Flash Player Prompting to Update with Auto Updates Disabled

    My scenario:
    Windows 7 x64
    Flash Player 11.7
    mms.cfg located in C:\Windows\Syswow64\Macromed\Flash
    mms.cfg settings:
    AutoUpdateDisable=1
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
I opened the Flash Player Settings Manager and under Advanced tab, verified "Never check for updates" is enabled.
I have both Standard and Administrative users receiving the following warning to update Flash player. Again, I have verified the settings are correct and auto update is showing as disabled.

    Hello,
Unfortunately, it's difficult to troubleshoot this issue after the fact due to how the auto-update notification is triggered.  If auto-updates are disabled in the mms.cfg file the update notification should not display, however, there is an edge case scenario that could result in the update notification displaying.
First, to clarify some comments regarding the update settings in the mms.cfg file:
    The default update settings are:
    AutoUpdateDisable=0 (notification update is enabled)
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0 (silent auto-update is disabled)
Silent auto-update is an opt-in option, it is not the default setting.  When installing using the EXE installer if the system is not already opted into silent auto-update the user will be prompted to select an update option and the mms.cfg file will be updated with this selection.  The MSI installer does not write to the mms.cfg file, therefore, it does not prompt the user to select an update option.  When Flash Player is installed using the MSI installer Flash Player simply honors whatever settings are already present in the mms.cfg file.
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1 enables silent auto-update ONLY if AutoUpdateDisable=0 is set.
AutoUpdateDisable=1 disables notification AND silent auto-updates
As of Flash Player 11.5, uninstalling Flash Player using the standalone uninstaller will reset the update options to the default setting (documented on page 8 of the Flash Player Administrator's Guide):
    AutoUpdateDisable=0 (notification update is enabled)
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0 (silent auto-update is disabled)
If your Flash Player deployment process is to first uninstall the Flash Player using the standalone uninstaller and then install Flash Player using the MSI installer the system will be configured for notification updates since this is the default setting.  In this case you must re-deploy the custom mms.cfg file to disable updates at the same time Flash Player is installed using the MSI installer (e.g. uninstall, install using MSI, deploy custom mms.cfg file disabling updates).  If the custom mms.cfg file disabling updates is not re-deployed at installation time it is possible for Flash Player to detect an update is available resulting in the upate notification displaying.
Regarding 'loud' releases, if you rely on silent auto-updates to update Flash Player within your organization, and want to avoid the update notification associated with a 'loud' release, you can host the updates on an internal server.  Details on how to do this are on page 19 of the Flash Player Administrator's Guide.
This functionality is tested extensively and we have not been able to reproduce the update notification displaying when updates are disabled.  Nonetheless, I will try using the various Flash Player versions mentioned in this thread.

  • Flash Player 10.1 loading wrong .swf

    - As I didn't find another place for Flash Player 10.1 standalone-subjects (only 10.2. or the browser-players), I hope that this is the correct place for my post -
I have a strange problem: When I open my .swf with double-click from the finder, it opens in FP 10.1. - but an _older_ project (which is located in a completely different place) will load! And it opens twice ... No matter, what new .swf I am creating, it's always this old file that will start ...
When opening the same .swf in FPlayer 9, it works fine ...
Anyone an Idea, what I can do about this?
    Thanks a lot for help!!
    pipipina
    System:
MacBook Pro, OS 10.6.6, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

I don't know what it was - but solved it. Put the file that was wrongly loaded into another folder. All .swf-files opening fine. Put the file back to its old place and now everything is normal again.
    Strange ... but solved.
