Flash Player Plugin tries to access the internet upon arriving at account login pages

Firefox 24.0
Adobe Flash Player Plugin 11.8 r800
Firewall software: ZoneAlarm
My firewall is set to "Manual Control" and I get warnings for all Internet access attempts.
Firefox is already granted outgoing access to the Internet, so I surf without additional warnings. So if I go to YouTube, I can watch the videos without receiving a prompt from my Firewall.
However when I visit a secure account login page (where I have to enter my user ID and PW) the Firewall warns me that "Firefox is trying to use Adobe Flash Player 11.8 r800 to access the Internet".
A prompt like this is provided by the Firewall when one program uses another to access the Internet. If for example I click on a link in MS Excel, the firewall will tell me that Excel is trying to use Firefox to access the Internet.
What makes me concerned is:
1) Firefox already has access privileges. It should not need to "use Flash to access the internet"
2) This occurs when I'm about to use the keyboard to enter sensitive data into a secure page
3) There are no [apparent] Flash elements on the login pages.
Could I have acquired a malicious Flash software that tries to collect keystrokes and transmit them somewhere? Is there a way to show (in Firefox) which Flash file is working at any given time? (This would let me identify what's making the attempt to access)
I am fully protected with Antivirus, Antispam, and breach prevention software. I also ran Norton Power Eraser to see if there was anything at Root level. Nothing found.
Thank you, in advance for your feedback.

Pages can use Flash even when there is no video displayed. For example some sites use Flash for menus, some for audio, and some may load Flash in their Google Analytics scripts so they know as much as possible about your system.
In most cases, the Flash player will be trying to load a .SWF file, although that may not always be obvious. You could look for it in Firefox's Web Console.
While viewing the page, press Ctrl+Shift+k, the reload the page. If there is a request for Flash media from the page, it should appear in the console (if the request is held up by your firewall, it nevertheless should appear as a pending request). There is a search/filter box where you could try entering .swf to reduce the time needed to scan through the list. Can you find the URL of the requested file? That might or might not make you comfortable about the request.

  • How does Flash Player projector/standalone connect to the Internet

I know that when a web service call is made from a flash player in the browser that the underlying browser is used to handle the traffic.  I also know that this isn't the case with flash projector because the security docs say that the projector files can't take advantage of SSL because they aren't run in the context of the browser.  So what mechanism does a standalone or projector application use to connect to the Internet?  I'm trying to analyze a possible application for someone from a security point of view, but I'm not sure what mechanism is in place.
Thanks to anyone who knows or even knows of some decent references.  I can't find much on projectors....

As far as I know, the standalone player does not connect to the Internet - it just plays local Flash content.
Or can you actually give it an Internet (http) location to play?  (I do not currently have Projector installed, so I cannot try it.)

I would guess that your 'sitelog.xml' file is either...
    (1) DTD based and refers to an external DTD definition (the parser is trying to validate the xml file)
    (2) Schema based and refers to an external XSD definition (the parser is trying to validate the xml file)
    (3) The XML file uses entity includes.
In SAX you could get around (1) and (2) by installing a null EntityResolver. I'm sure you could do the same thing in DOM (but i'm no DOM expert).
Also, you should look at the properties to see if there's a way to turn-off validation etc.

Be sure you've configured your Network preferences to use DHCP. Check that you are getting a valid IP address (not one beginning with 169. which is a self-assigned IP and invalid.)

I cannot access the internet the screen is grey, I have tried by using the answer from someone but it does not work...I went to settings, tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache, then turn off ipad.  When I did that twice, it did not work.  How long does it take for the clear history to work?  I am a brand new
user of the ipad2 and I am disappointed that this is happening already.

Have you been able to access the internet previously and now it's suddenly not working, or are you still trying to access the internet for the first time on your iPad?  Are you at home trying to connect through your home router?  If you are at home, did you put your home routers encryption code as your password?  The encryption code is what your iPad is looking for and it is usually found on the router and is typically a 13 digit combination of letters and numbers.  Let us know......

  • Is there an archive page for Flash Player plugins for PORTABLE versions of web browsers?

Is there an archive page for downloads of Flash Player plugin installers for the PORTABLE versions of web browsers like Firefox ESR?
One of my web browsers is Firefox ESR 10.0.7 and it is a PORTABLE version of Firefox that apparently needs a different Flash Player plugin than the normal Flash Player plugin that regular versions of most web browsers require.
I do not want to install the most recent Flash Player plugin PORTABLE version because I've read about problems with it and that's the only version that this Firefox ESR will give me the option to download and install when I try to install the needed Flash Player plugin through the browser.
I already know about the normal Adobe Flash Player plugin archive page, linked below, but that does not have the Flash Player plugins for PORTABLE web browsers.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
I also looked on OldApps.com and I couldn't find anything there.
Where can I download an older version, possibly one of the 11.2 Flash Player plugins from around April 2012, that will work with this PORTABLE version Firefox ESR?
I tried this question on the Mozilla Firefox help forum but no one could answer it.
    Thanks for any help,
    digiday

    Hi Pat,
Thanks again for your reply. Your solutions seemed like they might work, especially since you were able to tell me where the Windows system Flash Player plugin files are located.
And for a minute or two, I thought it was working.  In my first tests in the PORTABLE Firefox browser I'm testing with, it was actually playing some YouTube videos, but then I found that not all YouTube videos apparently rely on Flash to play... apparently some do and some do not, and I found that most of them do require Flash to play.  I had tested with some of my own videos that I uploaded to YouTube in the past in my first tests today and they played just fine, but then I started testing with some other Flash YouTube videos and they would not play and I got both the yellow bar at the top of my window telling me to download and install Flash as well as the red banner across the video player that told me I needed to install Flash.
Let me also make it clear that I'm testing this on other sites with Flash videos besides YouTube, and webpages that have relatively simple animated Flash graphics, and those alternate tests are showing that the Flash Player plugin for this PORTABLE Firefox still will not work either.
So to spite everything, I tried actually downloading and installing the newest Flash Player plugin, 11.4 something, (which I was trying to avoid) through the browser, and that only proceeded to overwrite my Windows system Flash Player plugin and it DID NOT place any Flash Player plugin files in the PORTABLE Firefox plugins folder.
I had pasted in the files you recommended in to the PORTABLE Firefox plugins folder, and I actaully included ALL the files from that Windows system Flash plugin folder for this test, but unfortunately that didn't work, and even after I tried changing the name of that one file, it still didn't work.
And I am closing and re-opening the browser in between each of these steps in my test.
So here, below, I'm including an email letter that I've now written to a Tor Browser support email address where I had been corresoponding previously.  The "Tor-Firefox" web browser is the PORTABLE Firefox ESR web browser that I've been referring to.  This is what I wrote, which pretty much sums up everything I've tried and been unsuccessful with so far...
    Hello Tor Browser help staff,
I've now tried everything and I cannot get ANY Flash content to play in this Tor-Firefox ESR web browser, even though I've tried installing the Flash player plugin that this browser asks for when I'm on a YouTube page (and even though this computer already had a current Flash Player plugin installed previously).
Let me make it clear that privacy is not important to me right  now during this quest to make the Flash Player plugin work with this Tor browser... I can reset any settings for maximum privacy later when I go back to that purpose for using Tor... right now, I'm just trying to make the Tor browser play Flash content.
So even though I've UNCHECKED the Torbutton>Preferences>Security  Settings>Disable plugin during Tor usage box, and I installed a new Flash player plugin THROUGH this browser, and I even set it to allow all scripts because I thought maybe that was complicating things, IT STILL WILL NOT PLAY FLASH CONTENT OF ANY TYPE.
Now, this, explained below, could be part of the problem that I'd like to ask for your help or SOMEONE's help with there in your department...
If I go to the Tor Browser folder on my hard drive at C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins there are NO Flash plugin files that show up in that folder even after I install a new Flash Player plugin THROUGH this browser... I believe that is why it will not play Flash content.
All it does when I install a Flash Player plugin through this Tor browser is to overwrite my Windows 7 system Flash Player plugin, but it does not actually place any Flash Player plugin files in the C:>Tor Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins folder, so that's why this PORTABLE version of the Firefox ESR browser will not play any Flash content... and it doesn't work from the Windows system Flash Player plugin the way that my normal Firefox (NON-TOR) web browser does.  My other Firefox web browser sees the the Windows system Flash Player plugin just fine and it does play Flash content correctly.
There is, however, one text file that comes stock inside the Tor browser plugins folder and when it is opened it says, "Place Firefox plugins in this directory (Flash, Shockwave, etc)".
So with some advice from someone on the Adobe help forum, I tried copying the Flash Player plugin files from the Windows system folder at C:>Windows>System32>Macromed>Flash in to the Tor browser plugins folder at C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, and that still didn't work.
Note that I am closing and re-opening the Tor browser between each of these tests.
So I then followed some further advice from the expert on the Adobe help forum and I changed the name of the main Flash Player plugin file that I had copied and pasted in to the Tor browser plugins folder from "NPSWF32_11_4_402_278.dll" to "NPSWF32.dll", and that still did not work... note that I left all the other files that I copied and pasted from the Windows system Flash plugins folder with the same name they originally had... I tried only changing that one Flash plugin file name, as instructed by the expert on the Adobe help forum.
I also tried posting a question about this on the Mozilla Firefox forum, but no one there is able to answer this question.
What the problem seems to be is that when this Tor-Firefox ESR 10.0.7 browser installs a Flash Player plugin, it just installs it to the Windows system folder (the same way that the normal (non-Tor) Firefox browser does) and  NOT  into the Tor-Firefox plugins folder C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, as would be needed for it to be able to play Flash content.
No matter what I do, whenever I try to view a YouTube video or any Flash video in this browser, or any Flash graphic content at all, I get the yellow bar at the top of the page that says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page - Install Missing Plugins" and there is a banner displayed where the Flash content is supposed to be that says, "The Adobe Flash Player is required for video playback - Get the latest Flash Player".
And as I explained at the top of this email, I have already installed and re-installed the Flash Player plugin on this computer multiple times, including doing it directly through this Tor-Firefox ESR browser itself.
So can ANYONE there tell me how to get the correct Flash Player plugin files in to the Tor-Firefox browser plugins folder at C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, and where do I get those files?  Everything I've tried, which is pretty extensive, has not worked, and it seems that someone there should know about this.
    Thanks for your help.

Hi X-Calibar, thanks for your comments. Yes, there are 4 zones under Internet Options and security settings. IE9 from what I have read has more security features than IE7/IE8 had. It appears this Server verification involves status of the Certificate that the website has as well as the Server that is using it. From what I've read on the IE9 sites, Microsoft states that if any HTTP sites are in the Trusted Zone, that the Server Verification is to be UNchecked.
When you go to add a site to the Trusted Sites zone, it by default only accepts HTTPS sites.
I would think that would only be if you had the SV box checked, that's what I find with IE8.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Search?q=what+is+server+verification+in+IE&prd =Windows7
I think you and I may be saying the same thing, just in a different way:-) Not using IE9, I don't know how all of the new features work. My concern is mainly limited to any feature that conflicts or effects Flash Player. Just as the ActiveX Filtering. That certainly effects Flash Player, so that is on my radar:-)
Hopefully, Chris Campbell will clarify some of this:-)

  • I accidentally blocked Firefox from accessing the internet. I love Firefox please help

A box popped up and said a program was trying to access the internet and I hit block instead of allow and now I can't find the area where I can unblock programs.

You can always do without the other security features and choose to enable WPA encryption....that is the safest as of now.....
Simply set everything back to default and choose WPA PSK......type in an 8 digit WPA key then remember that....when you connect other clients to your network, they would need the same key....

  • How do I keep iTunes from accessing the internet? (It's not MiniStore)

I just did a clean upgrade from iTunes 5.0 to 6.0.2. Now, with 6.0.2, however, as soon as it loads up, it tries to access the internet (224.0.0.251 Port 5353).
I realize this is the multicast address, however, I do NOT want iTunes trying to access the internet unless I tell it to. I have already done the following:
    1. The MiniStore is hidden
    2. Check for updates is turned off

I don't want to have to block it at the firewall, because I don't want to lose the ability to have iTunes connect to the internet - I just don't want it doing it without my knowledge and permission.

It seems, as if me and my client have kind of the same issue. Any suggestions to this: I sent my client an invitation via my iCal from my iMac (using my yahoo calendar as the exchange server). My client accepted the invitation. Now I have deleted this appointment from my iCal and my yahoo calendar. But my client is not able to delete the appointment in his iPhone 4S. What can my client do?
My client already went to the next apple store. There they told him to plug in his iPhone 4S to my iMac. Then he would be able to delete the appointment. Honestly, this does not make any sense to me. Why does my client have to come to me and plug in his iPhone into my iMac to get a meeting deleted. What if my client lived in a different country?????
