Flash player quits working in IE9

I just got a new computer.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and IE9.  Here's what's happening: flash will be doing fine but then -- unexpectedly -- I'll go to a website and a "circle with an exclamation point" is shown where flash animation should be taking place.  Then, my browser will say I need to install Flash to see the animations (like going to Youtube.)  I've found that when this happens, I just have to close IE9 and open it again and the problem is resolved.  It's very strange.    It doesn't seem like it's uninstalling since it works when I re-open IE9...  Anyone offer any help?

Hi Chris,
Thanks for writing me back.  Yes, I see the spinning 'F' now.  The player USUALLY works, but, about 5 times over the past 2 weeks it has just quit working.  And yes, until I close the IE window completely and restart it, it will not work.  What's funny is, at that point, IE9 doesn't think it's installed at all.  But, when I re-open IE after closing it, everything is fine.  I'm running Norton Internet Security but don't think permissions are an issue.
Since it happens so infrequently, I'd have to be running the video capture all the time to catch it.  Maybe, the next time it happens, can you suggest a course of action?  Maybe look in preferences at that time?
Thanks.

  • Adobe Flash Player Quit Working

I am running Windows Pro 7 (64-bit) and MSIE 9.
For some unknown reason, my flash player quit working. No big deal, as I went to Adobe's download page and first obtained their uninstall executable. I used it to completely rid my machine of it's original Adobe Flash Player.
Next, I went to download the latest version (and have done so probably 7 or 8 times now). I have tried two methods.
One, installing it onsite (the app reaches 7% and completely stops).
Secondly, I download the installer to my machine and double-click it. Same thing, the installer stops at 7% and it's done.
I have researched this problem since yesterday, trying to solve it, to no avail. I have turned off my anti-virus, my anti-malware, I've turned off just about everything except my computer but nother works. I have switched between ActiveX filtering and back again, yet the same results.
I cannot get past the 7% download of Flash Player from the site.
Can you recommend a third party exe that may work without having to download from Adobe's exe?
    Thank you.

Mike, again, thanks for the assist.
Now, as a result, on the below page....
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
I can now see the Flash 'test graphic' on that page (I couldn't before).
However, regardless of which site I go to that host FLV's or flash videos, including YouTube, they won't play. What does tkae place, is the timer on the bottom of the video appears, as does the 'loading spiral' but the video never materializes.
Do you know if this has something to do with ActiveX now being turned off or is there something I may be missing here?
    Thank you.

  • Flash Player quit working

I use a PPC iMac with system 10.5.8. Recently Flash quit working and I am having trouble finding the proper download for a non-Intel Mac.
AS a result, most videos will not play. Any suggestions?

Well, I worked my way down through different versions.  I completely eliminated each non installible system as I went.
    Finally,
    Flash Player 10.1.85.3 and 9.0.283.0
    was compatible with my system.
    It installed successfully.
I quit and reopened Safari. Tried to look at a video off a yahoo page.
It asked me to install Flash.
    I'm at a loss.

  • Flash player not working in IE9 Window 7 64bit.

Ever since I upgraded my IE8 to IE9, flash player didn't work. For example, white screen shows up in the flash player box. Consequently, i did some research trying to fix this issue by re-installing adobe flash player, and re-installing IE. I even tried every solution applicable via forums, but still no luck. Do i need to wait for an 10.3 update or there is feasible solution for this?

    Greetings, fellow 64-bit sufferer,
These steps should get you to the 10.3 version of Flash Player that you’re looking for (It’s called the Flash Player Square version 10.3.162.28):
    1. Go to this link first, http://www.adobe.com/support/2. Under "Product help and support centers," select the link for Flash Player;
    3. Under “Flash Player doesn’t work,” click the link for Windows 7;
    4. Under “Related content” (right side of page), click the first link, "Flash Player on 64-bit Operating Systems;"
    5. Under the first paragraph (in the note), click the link for Adobe Labs;
    6. Scroll to the middle of the page to the section “64-bit Release Flash Player Downloads.”
    7. The first download link is the one you want for Windows 7 (and Vista) users.
BEFORE YOU RUN IT, uninstall whatever version of Flash Player you already have in your browser at the moment. I’m sure you’ve probably mastered the uninstall/install tango at this point, but here is the most thorough guide for doing this that I have found to date:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html (for version 10.2 and lower)
I really like the fact that Step 6 points you to a page where you can test your browser to see if Flash Player is still there. Once you are sure it's gone, return to the Adobe Labs page and run the link that installs Flash Player's Square Version. You can then come back to this same Step 6 and use the test page to see that the new version 10.3.162.28 (or something 10.3-ish or above) has been installed correctly.
    Good luck.
Note: This Square version is not an offficial release.  In fact, it is not even a beta version that is made easily available to end-users.  They're calling it a pre-release build, so its really a tool for software developers, not the rest of us.  It will, however, work better than anything else for us desparate 64-bit browser users who need something now.  I, myself have a problem that I think is Square-related, and lucky for you, I stumbled across your situation while trying to resolve my own.  I hope someone stumbles across me in the near future.

  • Flash Player not working in IE9

I have the latest flash player (I reinstalled it twice today).  However it won't work in Internet explorer 9.  I downloaded Google Chrome and it does work in Google Chrome but not in IE9.

The current Flash Player version only works on the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer.

  • Flash player quit working - iTunes 7 to blame?

I am having trouble watching any sites that have flash content. I've uninstalled and reinstalled flash player using the adobe programs, but I can't get the player to work. It was working fine before, and the only thing that has changed is that I installed iTunes 7. Does anybody have any idea how to fix this? Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2.16 Ghz, 2.0 GB RAM, 7200rpm 100GB HD.

I did what you suggested and I got flash to work... on Firefox!! Before checking the Quicktime preferences, I had already downloaded the latest version of Flash for Intel Macs from Adobe and restarted Safari but it did not help. Then, after checking the Quicktime preferences, I got Flash to work on Firefox but I have no clue why it won't work on Safari. I've looked everywhere it would be obvious, and everywhere that has been suggested here but it seems like I'm missing something. Anybody else having this problem with Safari and Flash? I'm wondering why Firefox can show Flash content now but Safari is still unable too. Please advice.
    Thanks.

  • Flash player quit working after update

I received a message that I needed to update my flash player.  I followed the directions to download and install the update.  Now my flash player doesn't work at all.  How can I fix it?

  • Downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials and Flash Player Quit Working

Hi, i am running Win 7 (64bit), and recently got MSE as my only antivirus. Once i downloaded it, flash player files in youtube and other sites (even pictures you can click and zoom on) refuse to load and just lock the browser. This is happening in IE and FireFox. I am running flash player 10.3.181.22. I do not get an error message, just a frozen browser. I have restarted browser, computer, and router and still am getting the issue. Any help on this issue would be great!

Hi, in addition to what Pat has suggested, what Anti-Virus program(s) did you have prior to MSE? Did you have a clean Uninstall of those? If you only removed them from the Programs & Features, some of them don't Uninstall all from the various files. Most Anti-Virus programs now have Removal Tools to use in addition.
You might try power cycling the Router and see if that helps.
Also check and make sure the Flash Player Shockwave Flash Object is Enabled in your IE manage addons. Also the Shockwave Flash plugin for FF plugins.

  • 3 days ago Flash Player quit working in IE 64-bit, still works in Firefox ???

    Hello........
As of approximately June 16th or so, I've not been able to see most videos in IE 9 64-bit.
I have no problems with videos / Flash Player in Firefox.
On the New York Times webpage, for example, there is a video area that now says
However, I DO have Flash Player installed!  I've even uninstalled it and reinstalled it.
I've got the latest version of Flash Player.
I've also done a System Restore, thinking that might help.....but it had no impact on this issue.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks much -
    Richard

Here is solution I used for IE10, Window 7 64 bit:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/ie10-says-adobe-flash-player-is nt-installed/d3c1eda6-cabc-4ca5-b4d9-dcba0c3aaad5
    1. Internet Explorer> Tools (or Alt + t)>Internet Options>Programs>Manage add-ons (Show: All add-ons) verify that the Shockwave Flash Objects are enabled.
    2. From Safety on the IE Command Bar (you may have to right-click the IE menu or IE toolbar and enable the Command Bar) uncheck ActiveX Filtering.
If that helps, it would be safer to re-enable ActiveX Filtering and make an exception for the affected sites. See this article:
How to use Tracking Protection and ActiveX Filtering:

  • Adobe flash player wont work and wont reinstall can anyone help?

my adobe flash player quit working i uninstalled it and redown loaded it. several times but i keep getting this message [ blocked plug in ] what can be done?

    First update to 10.6.8.
Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.
Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.
On March 1 Apple again blocked Flash Player for Lion and Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5660
The Adobe Flash patch can be found on Adobe’s website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent version.
You should uninstall any previous version first, and repair permissions after installing the new version.
If you still get a ‘plug-ins blocked’ message:

  • IMAC Flash Player Quit Unexpectedly

Previously working fine and a couple days ago I get the message that Flash player quit unexpectedly

This is usually a permissions issue.
Either repair them using Disk Utility or go deeper and use AppleJack.
One way or another, once they're repaired, if it still quits unexpectedly, get back here and we'll look at other things.

  • Flash player doesnt work on safari, even with the last version 11.6

    hello,
Since yesterday, my flash player doesnt work on safari (OS X10.8.2). I tried to update flash with the last version (11.6) from adobe website, but i still have the same probleme.  Can you please help me ?
    Thank you

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

    Repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the menu bar, quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
