Flash Player refuses to make "display" tab available in settings; cannot disable hardware acceleration.

Windows 8.1 64-bit laptop.  Multiple Flash Player issues.  (1) Sites say I do not have Flash Player installed but Adobe download page says I do.  (2)  Right clicking the test video, or any other video, give access to "settings" but there is no display tab.  (3)  Some video sites suggest watching in HTML5, which does work, but most simply present the green screen.  I have spent the better part of three days reading every forum I can find, and they all point to disabling hardware acceleration, but I cannot access it.  None of the recommended fixes work.

HI ,
Please provide the following information :-
1)Snapshot of your "Flash player Settings " ..
2) Url links for which you are facing the green screen issue .
Also ,please provide additional information like GPU card information, browser version information and  flash version

I have a Acer Aspire One netbook
As soon I hit "play" on a flash movie, flash player crashes
I have tried to disable hardware acceleration to eliminate that possibility, but the check box does not respond to input
I read that the flash player system controls do not respond when there are scrollbars around the screen (as there are on a small netbook screen) so I zoomed out to get rid of the scrollbars, but the systems setting menu is still unresponsive when I try to disable hardware acceleration

Thanks Carl, but as I mentioned:
    >I have tried to disable hardware acceleration to eliminate that possibility, but the check box does not respond to input
eg. when I right slick on a player, the setting menu opens up, but the "Enable hardware" check box does not respond to a mouse click and remains on  I also tried tabbing around the settings menu and using the return key to select/ de-select but that doesn't work either

  • Immidiate crash of Flash, unable to disable hardware acceleration. Solved!

Flash video/content crashes instantly, so it makes it impossible to right-click it and enter the settings to disable hardware acceleration. This issue wasn't solved for over 2 years in other forum posts, but I finally did it. You have to temporarily DISABLE all your recording and playback devices in the windows' sound menu. this will let you play flash content (it did help me), just enough to disable hardware accelertion. I am suprized Mozilla survived despite being unable to debug their own software - no respect to customers ad their time.

Flash is developed by Adobe, not Mozilla. Though the good news is that Firefox is creating their own flash player that should be in a near-future version of Firefox.

  • Several things I want touse my ipad2 for require adobe flash player which I find isn't available to my iPad- is there anything I can do about this- it is very frustrating!

There are several things I want to use my new ipad2 for thatvrequirevadobe flash player which I find is not available tonipad.this is so frustrating! Are there any alternatives that will do the same job that I can use on my iPad?

Flash is not supported on the iPad - and as Adobe have never managed to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices, and they have recently announced that they are stopping development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store.
If you do a search on this forum you will find hundreds of other threads on the subject.

  • I have a mac computer.  I am trying to install flash player but get the message "install adobe flash player wants to make changes.  Type your password to allow this." I do not use a password to open the computer.

I have a mac computer that uses no password.  When installing flash player I get the message "Install adobe flash player wants to make changes  Type your password to allow this.  I can't get past this message.

    Hi,
To change your password you will need to open System Preferences, then open Users & Groups, click on Change Password.  Change your password to a temporary one, then when you have finished you do the same procedure to change it back, by typing in the temp password then leaving the new password blank.  Hope this helps.

Use the iSwifter browser from the app store. Works for most flash content.

  • Flash Player - Disable Hardware Acceleration - Apple TV-Mac OS 10.4.7/Firefox

    Hello all,
I have been going down a fun path getting my 1st Generation Apple TV (160 GB HD) to run Hulu natively (without PlayOn restreaming).  After fun times getting Firefox and Flash Player working, I blasted through setting up Hulu Widget to keep the video size small (Apple TV in 480p defaults to an 800x600 res).   Things look pretty good. I maxed out buffering/cache for all Hulu related sites within Global settings, this produced nice improvements.  I found a GreaseMonkey script that forces the Flash Player to always render Low Quality video.  This helps immensely at stopping stuttering with little trade off in quality.  My last piece to try to tweak video playback (aside from monkeying around with the OS X kernel) is the disable Hardware Acceleration.
BUT, I am having a major problem with mouse support or something.  Everytime I bring up the Display settings via a Right Click, I cannot uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration".  Surprisingly clicking it 500 times still does not make it uncheck.
I have searched high and low but have not found a clearcut way to disable it via script or other non-interactive means.
I wonder if there might be a javascript that could be plugged into GreaseMonkey to accomplish the end goal.   This blog and Adobe document refer to the wmode parameter and how to use it to disable HA.

    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer10_1_hardware_acceleration.html
I am thinking perhaps I can take the Low Quality JS (http://userscripts.org/scripts/review/38994) and replace "quality" with "wmode".  Am I on track?    It  seems "opaque" might be the right one.  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/127/tn_12701.html
There is a case related to my question:  https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-5748
    Any tips, clues, pointers, commiserations?

Hi, LOL at my screen moniker. That's interesting that the FF beta has an Option for that. The only problem, is that I have heard that each browser must UNcheck the H.A. I'm sure you'll find out.
Hope that works at least for FF. Let me know if you have time.
I've been checking out Apple TV and Google TV. Just saved the links and some info, haven't had time to go further. I'd prefer Apple TV over Google tho.
I have a 55" HD Sony/Blu-ray Surround Sound Speakers, etc. I hooked up the VGA cable for Internet, and WOW on the Screen/Monitor!! Now I'm thinking about the iPhone 4 with VZ too, on their pre-order list for 2/3/11!
Hard to keep up with the Technology, moving faster today for some reason.
We are under the Snow & Ice warning, getting it now. Hope I don't lose power! If so, I'll be offline for sure.
If I find anything on that H.A. for IE, I'll let you know.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb

  • Adobe Flash crashed so I disabled hardware acceleration

I guess so many people are aware of that problem.
When exiting a fullscreen video, flash player crashed. So I looked at the solution in this site. It told me to disable hardware acceleration. If it worked I am supposed to upgrade my graphic drivers but it is already up-to-date. I don't want to keep my hardware acceleration disabled but when I enable it I still have some problem. Help me!
    Thanks

There are many problems with Flash player 11.3 right now. Unfortunately, at this point your best solution is to leave hardware acceleration disabled until Flash 11.4 comes out, then update and try again. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer.

  • Flash Player refuses to run, if outdated.  Can I change this setting?

I work in a video production environment -- tonight we ran into a problem where a couple of live monitoring systems were not working because Flash refused to run; presumably, because it's out of date.   In this case, the systems are "Deep Frozen" (locked down, essentially).
While I think I understand the underlying reasoning for this, it's highly disruptive.    Is there a way we can change Flash Player so it doesn't refuse to run if it's outdated?
These systems are on OSX Yosemite.  It's possible it's not just a Flash Player setting, but a browser setting -- still trying to track this down.
    Tips, pointers would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

Yeah, that makes sense.  Faronics is really into buzzwords.  It was hard to cut through the marketing-speak to figure out what they were actually doing.
The plug-in blocking technology on Mac is called xprotect.  You can disable it, which might make sense in your use-case, but it's typically a really bad idea for the average end-user.
    sudo mkdir /System/Library/Launchdaemons/Disabled
    sudo mv /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.xprotectupdater.plist /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/Disabled/com.apple.xprotectupdater.plist
    sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Delete:JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum" /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist
I'm guessing that these files are mutable on the system and not part of the persistent snapshot, or I imagine that the blocking would have went away after a reboot.  I'm thinking that you can probably disable these and update the relevant snapshots to ensure that you're not picking up new xprotect blacklists in the field.
If you're just hitting the same set of consistent local IPs for your monitoring backend, it might make more sense to preconfigure them in Safari as always allowed vs. wholesale disabling xprotect.
    Hopefully that's helpful.

  • Flash player refusing to work no matter what I do.  Been going on for months now.  Help?

    Windows 7 (64 bit)
    Chrome (32 bit) (ver. 27.0.1453.116 m)
    Flash 11.7.700.225
It seems like, no matter what I do, Flash player will not work.  Keep in mind that I have already tried disabling/enabling both the plugin that comes with Chrome, along with the plugin that you can manually install from Adobe, and that alone doesn't solve my problem.
If I try to play videos on Youtube, I get one of four results:
    1) "This video is currently unavailable," which can come up if I have one of the plugins enabled.  I can sometimes solve this by disabling both plugins, but that only works about 25% of the time.
    2) The Youtube player just shows black and nothing else.  No audio/video and no indication that anything is playing.  Like with #1, this can also come up if I have a plugin enabled, and can sometimes be solved like in #1.  But again, this only works semi-occasionally.
    3) I get the prompt to update my flash player.  This can come up if I have both plugins disabled, and I have yet to find a solution for it (yes, I've already uninstalled flash with Adobe's official uninstaller, and reinstalled it to confirm I have the most recent version).  If I enable any of the two plugins, I get an error message like in either #1 or #2.
    4) The video plays fine.  This only happens about 10% of the time, and is split half/half in terms of requiring the plugin on/off.
So far, I have done the following in order to solve my flash problem, to no avail:
    -disabled/enabled both plugins (mentioned above)
-uinstalled/reinstalled Flash Player using Adobe's official programs (mentioned above)
    -tried using Firefox
-tried using the HTML5 player as an alternative (never works)
-disabled/reenabled every plugin one by one
-disabled/reenabled all extensions, and even tried browsing in Incognito Mode
-tried making an exception for Flash in Windows Firewall
-scanned for and cleaned up any viruses/malware/adware/spyware

The first thing I would try is to update the graphics drivers; see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

  • Flash Player installer isn't displaying properly in Win7 - how to fix?

I'm running a new installation of 64-bit Win7 with IE11 (seems to be a 32-bit IE).  I'm trying to install Flash Player but the install screen isn't working properly.
It looks fine until I get to the bit where I choose my update option, and then when I click Next I get a standard oblong dialogue box, inside which is a shallow oblong near the top, delineated by a red line.  Inside the red line are two tiny boxes, one at top left and one at top right each of which contains the X which indicates failure to find or to display an image.
Above the box at top left is written "Adobe Flash Player: Warning".  Along the bottom, centre and right, are written "Skip Install" and "Retry".  These last two items are clickable hot-links: the other features are not, so I have no way to read whatever the warning is.
Any ideas on how I can get the installer to work?

OK ta.  Well, the Adobe document upload doesn't work for me - it shows me as signed in but there's no upload button.  So I;ve swtuck them on one of my webpages.  The fact that ADM.trace has file size 0 rather suggests that it hasn't worked, though.
I forgot to say that if I click Retry it shows "Adobe Flash Player: connecting" but then sticks on 0%
