Flash player, safe?

Hey guys,I'm fairly new to mac, and i wanted to know if it is safe to install adobe flash player on my MBP, and if it will make me vulnerable  to viruses. Also how to block flash and only use it when i want to on a case by case basis.
Thank you

See this to install it.

And if you want to only run it on a per use/session basis, then you can either chose to turn it off in your browsers preferences.
Safari - turn off plug-ins  (however this does them all unfortunatly)
Firefox - disable  Flash in the Add-ons > Plug-ins
Or a better method is to use Firefox and the NoScript Add-on, drag a Temp Allow All button to the Toolbar.
This way all scripts (even Javascript) is turned off by default as you surf, which if you need the scripts (and trust the site) you click the Temp button, which makes it a lot easier than heading to the preferences as your bound to forget to turn them off.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you need Flash for important tasks, download and install it > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer I do not recommend you to use it due to the number of security issues it has got, but if you need it, you can install it without any problem. Just make sure you keep it updated

  • Is flash player safe

There are too many posts on this!!  what is you opinion, is Flash Player safe?  should I uninstall it from my macbook?? If I do, how do I get Youtube to work in safari?

It's not possible to stream YouTube content without Flash installed.
You can control Flash by installing the ClickToFlash extension >  Apple - Safari - Safari Extensions Gallery
Allow all other plug-ins must be selected in Safari > Preferences > Security to stream Flash content.
Flash settings are available in System Preferences > Flash Player
Flash is safe as long as you're not visiting questionable websites such as sexually explicity content, sweepstakes sites. Stick with with YouTube.

  • Is installing flash player safe?

I just purchased an iMac and want to know if it is safe for me install flash player?  I don't need it very often, but when I do, I hate not being able to view something just because I don't have Flash!  Is it worth it, and what are the risks?

    Yes, it is safe.

  • Is flash player safe to use on macbook pro or should i dload html5?

My macbook didn't come with flash installed. I've heard that flash is a big reason PC's have virus/spam issues. Is it safe to use flash player or is html5 the same thing only safer?

It was a big cuase because people were using outdated versions of Flash and not updating it on a timely basis like all plug-ins require.
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
Adobe has changed that and now will auto-update it, also on Mac's. Flash is much safer now because of that and Apple turning outdated versions off.

  • Is Flash Player safe for macbooks?

I want to watch youtube, but it says "The Adobe Flash Player is required for video playback.  [a link:] Get the latest Flash Player."  I don't want to download anything unsafe on my new MacBook.  Is it safe to download Adobe Flash Player 11.7.700.225?

Flash itself is safe as long as you download & install it directly from Adobe.com.   Do not download it from any other site and DO NOT respond or click any pop up or email that suggests you should install Flash.
Beyond that, use of Flash can be safe as long as you are careful about what you are using Flash for. If you know & trust the site(s) that provide Flash content, that is one thing (YouTube, corporate sites, university admissions sites, etc).  However, if you are wandering around the web and watching whatever Flash videos you find (even on Facebook), or you are engaging in risky behavior (eg, going to p**n sites) then Flash is definitely NOT safe at all.

  • Is Using the Automatic Update for Flash Player Safe? It is Installed In System Preferences On My Mac

    Hello-
One day I noticed that there was an icon on my MacBook Pro of Adobe Flash on the last row of system Preferences.  I had never seen it before, and I had ben using Flash for a long time and updating it regularly.
It recently told me there is a newer version.  I did not let it install it because I am having so many problems with viewing Flash Videos on websites.  I have a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I use Safari 5.1.5, the latest as far as I know.
In using this automatic updater for Flash (there are actually several tabs when I click the Adobe icon not just the updater) in the Advanced tab of the Flash Player icon are there any special things I should do if I click yes update?  should I close all the windows, apps, Safari?  do a restart?  I am debating if I should do a Clean Install, wipe all Flash Player off the Mac and just install the latest version rather then letting the updater install the latest version, which I think is 11.2.202.228.  I currently have 11.1.102.64 with a bunch of video issues.
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • Is Adobe Flash Player safe to install on Macbook Pro?

Also, How do I stop videos that play automatically when I go to a web page like a news page. I don't have flash installed so why does the video still play?
    I have Yosemite installed.

It is safe, although Flash is a pretty hefty pig sometimes and sometimes causes performance problems.
(I use Click2Flash Safari extension, so I only run the flash stuff when I must have it.)
Make sure you are downloading it from Adobe.
Don't respond to other website attempts to give it to you.

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228),  go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

Hate to suggest this, but you need to ask in the Flash forum. This forum is for Acrobat.

  • Is it safe to download Adobe flash player on Macbook Pro?

I can't watch any Youtube video's at all. It's telling me to downlaod the flash player. I just wanna make sure before I do, that its safe too do so? When I download it will it mess something with my warenty or no? Thanks in advance!

Yes it is safe if you only download direct from Adobe.
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
