Flash player says install was successful, the Adobe site says otherwise--IE

Hello, all:
I'm trying to install flash player 10.2 on a vista 32-bit home premium system. It's a Gateway t6828 notebook, 3gb ram, 220gb hdd w/155gb free. The client does run Avast Internet Security, which I disabled during the install & also while attempting to view the Adobe site. Flash does work in Firefox, but not IE, either 8 or 9. This occurred subsequent to a malware attack.
I have installed/uninstalled flash & shockwave player multiple times, using both the regular download & manual installers. Browser windows were closed & the flash install logs say the installation was successful. I am always logged on as admin but just in case I ran the subacl & reset fp10.zip once anyway. I've reset IE on a couple occasions. I also ran a utility fix ie.zip which is supposed to re-register all .dll & .ocx files that IE uses. I have removed software that I thought might somehow be taking over, e.g., Real Player. I have deleted temporary files, run registry cleaners following uninstall to clean out stray registry entries, deleted the windows\system32\macromed folder following uninstallation & prior to reinstallation, as well as temporary files. I have deleted browsing history & reset cache.
Still, when I go to the adobe.com/software/flash/about site, click on the settings manager link, then click on 1 of the panels, it tells me 'this content requires flash'. AARRGG!!!!
I've actually reached a point where I don't know how to proceed. I do think a repartition/reformat/reinstall is a fairly serious step for this annoyance, especially because flash does work in firefox, but the client doesn't like it. Any suggestions? I'm goin' nuts here--I know, long walk off a short pier, but... The better part of $40 seems an awful lot to pay for somethin like this.
I truly appreciate any help, & express my sincere thanks in advance for any which I receive.

The symptoms you describe, especially the malware attack, leads me to think that you may have the "kill-bit" for Flash Player set in your [client's] registry.  Can you go and verify this: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3432049#3432049 ?
If you found that "kill-bit" entry, use the download at the bottom of http://forums.adobe.com/message/3434922#3434922 to remove the entry.

I updated flash player 17NPAPI 3/20 and now no audio or videos will play. Have gone through all of the help on Odobe site, which shows the install but also shows my operating system as XP but I have windows 7. The previous version was still showing up in my programs as adobe flash player 16 Active X so I deleted the new one and thought the old one would then work okay. But still no audio or videos play.
My windows media player is working fine, it just when I get on line with firefox that I am having this issue..

  • Flash Player 10 installed but not woking

I have spent hours and hours trying to solve this issue on my own from all the adobe forums and forums on other websites about this issue. Still can't get FP to work and I need it working ASAP for my on-line college classes. Getting very desperate and would be incredibly grateful for a solution if anyone can help.
Note: Just before writing this I uninstalled FP active X via control panel and rebooted. The files are still in macromed as listed here, but I have uninstalled FP for a(NOTHER) fresh start.
Here's are the notes I have so far after seeing/trying help on other posts...
Flash player was working now every time I need to use FP it tells me to install but it is already installed.
Program does not show under Start, All Programs but it does show in the Control Panel uninstall list.
I don’t remember exactly when FP stopped working, but I’m not sure I’ve been doing much recently that would have required it, so may be longer than I think. Probably relatively recently though.
I have searched and searched for answers in the forums so I’ve tried several things people suggested, still not working.
Wondering if the problem is this….the ActiveX control is not showing in Manage Add-ons even though I clicked to install it when installing FP.

Google toolbar ver. 4.0 w/pop-up blocker enabled
I am the Administrator and only user on my laptop
    What I’ve tried so far:
Adobe website shows FP video that it was successfully installed right after, but I just tested again and the Adobe site says to view content I JavaScript enabled and need FP installed.  FP is installed however, and still not working.
Tested Shockwave Player through Adobe site and it says it’s installed and working
Checked to ensure Shockwave Flash Object & Java were enabled in IE tools, managae add-ons
Checked that no older versions of Java were installed
    IE Security Level to medium
Uninstalled Adobe Flash Player, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted  (a few times)
Uninstalled, rebooted, installed through cnet’s downloads
Checked for updates for IE, Foxfire, Flash Player, Adobe Reader, & Java

                Install (text doc)
Ok, think that's all I have at the moment. Please oh please, someone help me before I throw myself out the window!

Thank you so much for your time!  Okay, I think I have what you need, if I understood it all correctly. Here goes...
I just installed FP again, did not get the video showing on Adobe site that it was successful even though the download said it was.
Uninstalled using Adobe uninstaller, then tried install once more with the same result.
The macromed Flash folder still has the same files as listed before:
    Flash10i.ocx
    FlashInstall (text doc)
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX
    install (text doc)
    In Control Panel I see:
    Adobe Download Manager
    Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX
    Adobe Reader 9.3.4
    Adobe Shockwave Player 11/5
Showing & enabled in IE Add-ons:
    get_atlcom Class
    Shockwave Flash Object
    Adobe PDF Link Helper
    Adobe PDF Reader
The Active X Control for Flash Player is not listed in IE
Don’t see any relevant add-ons in Firefox. BTW, I don’t usually use FF and only downloaded it again because I’d read that FP was working for some people in FF when it wasn’t in IE.  So, if we don’t get FF working with FP I’m good with that.
No NPSWF files in the Flash folder for me to right click.
Can't give you any version numbers.
    Did I miss anything?

  • Flash Player Not Installing Properly?

Hello, I am having trouble with Flash. I use Firefox (latest version), and was notified this morning that I needed to update my Flash version/plugin/whatever. I go to update, and it installed just fine (i.e. the install did not give me any error messages). However, I check the version on Adobe's site and the Firefox plugin checker, and it still not only says that I still need to update, but the Adobe website still says I have an old version.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the whole Flash program, restarting my computer, and restarting my browser, but they still say that I need to update.
So what is wrong/going on? Adobe's website is saying that Flash is running, and all websites (YouTube, various Flash-based games and items on art sites, Flash-based games, etc) that I suppose would run on Flash are running just fine, so why is Firefox saying I still need to update? Why is the Adobe site saying that I still have an old version?
Here are some screenshots, if it helps explain my problem better:

EDIT: Also further information, this all started at about 8:30 AM on the East Coast. Also, I did try going to Adobe themselves for help, but the chat support was no help; they told me to use the phone support, which, OF COURSE, costs money that I do not have. Ha.

  • Their is a newer version of Flash Player already installed

Flash Player automatically updates.  Today I tried to use Facebook to upload some photos.  Facebook gave me a warning that said I needed the latest update to Flash Player.  I went to the Adobe website to try to update the Adobe Flash Player.  When I try to run the installer, it gets as far as "Installing" and then stops saying Note: Newer version already installed.  The Troubleshooting page on the Flash Player support site says I have Flash Player 14.0.0.101 and the newest version is 13.0.0.  I have not manually installed or updated anything, except for trying to install the update after receiving the original error messages.

This means you have a beta version of Flash Player installed.  Uninstall it with http://labsdownload.adobe.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/flashplayer14_uninstall_m ac.dmg
then download and install the release version http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_playe r_13_osx.dmg

  • Flash Player not installing correctly

I tried to install a new copy of Quickbooks today and tells
me it needs Flash Player installed. I had flash Player previously
installed but now appear to be no good. I have tried to uninstall
it and reinstall with no luck. I am running Vista Home Premium on a
new machine with 4 GB memory. I have the full version of Flash CS3
    installed.
When I try to uninstall Flash Player, if going under Control
Panels to Programs and Features the icon shown for Flash Player has
an X in the upper right corner of it.
I have had nothing but problems with Vista and CS3 trying to
install and uninstall program and have had it.

Download the uninstaller for Flash Player from "How to
uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control"
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet
Explorer or other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo
Messenger, MSN Messenger, or other Messengers. Check the Windows
system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might
possibly use Flash Player are still in memory.
Install the new Flash Player from here:

  • When I click on my email confirmation the Adobe site does not recognize.

When I click on my email confirmation, the Adobe site says to click on my email confirmation.

I have the same problem but it appears that an add-on I'm using is causing the problem. Try opening Firefox in safe mode (which disables add-ons) Then try it. If that solves the problem, you need to disable all your add ons and enable them one by one to figure out which one(s) is causing the problem.

  • Flash Player 10.1 is not installed even though message says it was successful.

    Hello,
I use W7 Ultimate, 64 bit, and IE 8. Whenever I try to watch video a message says I  need to upgrade Flash Player and gives me a link to version 10.l
I uninstalled version 10.0.32.18, then downloaded and installed version 10.l. A message says the installation was successful. However, I still get the same message and link whenever I try to watch video. I tried repeatedly with the same results. Each time Update Checker identifies the installed version as 10.0.32.18 even though an Adobe message says the installation of v.10.1 was successful.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi,
I got rid of Update Notifier, and I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro but am not a developer.
I honestly thought I was following all your instructions to the letter. I skipped some steps in my last post, but here is everything I really did.
I used the Administrator account, closed all applications, set the Internet security to Medium, put *.adobe.com in Trusted sites and set Internet security to low for it, removed real time protection for my antivirus, used Advanced Settings to disable the firewall, downloaded the Flash Player installer and uninstaller to the Desktop, disconnected the Internet, and closed all browsers.
The uninstaller was then run. Then the installer was run. The computer was booted . It was then rebooted. The insaller was run again. The computer was rebooted. The Internet was connected.
Please look over each step and if I'm skipping something I'll add it before trying again.

Hi gb, I think that you are relying on this Update checker too much. Early on, you confirmed what Flash files were installed. What the Update Checker reports is not correct, sorry. The proof in the pudding is what Flash Player files are Installed.
In Post#2, you had the correct Flash files Installed, regardless of what the Update Checker said. I can't use the Update Checker as the Standard on whether you have Flash Player Installed or not and you shouldn't either. This is getting too confusing.
The only issue you had was the Shockwave Flash Object did not Install and I posted the reasons in Post#6.
There is a procedure to Uninstall Flash Player and to Install Flash Player and it appears that you are relying on other programs to dictate.
Also I have never heard of anyone using the Adobe Update Manager for Flash Player. Perhaps you should read up on it and see if you really need it.
Are you a Developer? My suggestion would be to take a look in Programs and Features via Control Panel and see if all of the Adobe Programs you have Installed are needed. Then check your IE add ons for the same.
My Post# 6 still stands. Until that is corrected, there is nothing more that can be done. That Update Checker, does is have a website? If it is identifying those 2 files as Flash Player files, then I know I wouldn't be using it and you shouldn't either.

I have my first ipad.  It is the mini version.  I'm trying to go to certain sites on the internet that tell me I need to update or install Adobe Flash Player. When I try to down load Adobe Flash Player I get a message saying "this device does not support Adobe Flash Player".   Can I not use Adobe Flash Player on my ipad like I do on my computers and my iphone???

You can't install flash player on your iPad, nor on your iPhone - it's not supported on iOS devices, and as Adobe have stopped development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites. Also some websites have their own apps in the App Store.

On my Ipad I seem to be having a problem when trying to play YouTube videos embedded on Facebook.
When I click the links, I get a message saying: "Flash Player upgrade required."

I get this if using chrome or safari .
I can go direct to YouTube it just works.

The Facebook link to the video is accessing an Adobe Flash video.  Unfortunately, no iOS devices can play flash.

I have downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player, but it was installed to a "disk image".  I don't know what that is, but I cannot view anything that requires flash player.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help, but that didn't do any good either.  I have been double clicking from the download files, double clicking on the "install adobe flash player", closing the anti virus, closing Safari, watching the install progress and clicking finish.  It indicates that "flash player" is installed, but every time I try to view something requiring flash player, it tells me I must download it.  It shows up in the "system preference"  and from there I can make some changes, but it still won't let me view anything requiring "flash player".   It does not show up in my apps like Adobe Reader does.  It shows up in the "downloaded files" section of "Finder".  I'm getting really perplexed over my inability to get this right.

  • Problem with finishing install of Flash Player on a Mac. When finishing by entering the requested password, the dialog box jiggles as if the p/w is invalid. But it works in the Adobe site.

I am trying to install Flash player on my Mac. All the steps are working as they should, until the point where I am asked to enter my password. I do this, and the dialog box jiggles as through  the p/w were invalid. However, it works to sign in to the Adobe site. I just changed it to be sure and checked again.

There is no password required to download or install the Flash Player.  Chances are your Mac is requiring you to enter its password to allow the installation to occur.
