Flash Player seems to suck

I'm just coming to realize how badly the Flash Player
(seemingly all versions) use up cpu. I'm seriously considering
disabling this player. I guess I wonder why you guys don't seem to
care about it. It's one very piggy app. I'm just glad I don't use
Flash in my sites. Unless this problem is handled I imagine Flash
could become "unused".

Interesting that you say this. I have only had problems with
CPU usage and Flash once or twice in the 8 years I have been
working with it. It always seems to me that the problem is not with
the plug-in, but with the developers when something like this comes
about. The plug-in itself is very fast and efficient. Where are you
finding these flash applications that "use up cpu"?

    Thank you

    Hi oliviay29570750,
"flash player HD" is not a valid Adobe product.  Flash Player is just known as Flash Player, not Flash Player HD. Can you please post a screenshot (How to post a screenshot in the forum) of the pop-up message and the page you go to when you click on the link (including the URL of the page)?
    Thank you.

  • Flash Player seems to install, but will not function

Flash Player installs but does not work.  When I go to the troubleshooting website (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html), the box does not fill with information.  If I right click where the box should be however, the menu shows the version and acts as if AFP is installed.  I cannot select settings, but can select global settings.  The global settings dialog box will open.
I am using AFP version 11.7.700.169, using IE 9, and running Windows 7.  I have 2 other PCs, and both are running the program fine.  So far, I have tried many things to troubleshoot with no luck.
    So far:
-Complete uninstall, using the Adobe uninstaller.  I have deleted the folders and content as well, shut down, and tried reinstall.
-I have deleted the registry entry and also tried setting it to zero located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}.
-I am using Norton 360, and have tried an install with all services stopped (Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, Auto protect, etc)
-I have verified Active X filtering is not checked in IE.
-Active X and Scripting options in IE>Tools>Internet Options are enabled and mirror the selections on the two working PCs.
-I have tried to uninstall and reinstall an earlier version of AFP with no luck.
-Shockwave Flash Object Addon is enabled.
Screen shot is included to show what happens on the redirect screen after I install AFP.
I am out of ideas and would appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks!

I'm a little disappointed in the forums - no responses.  I'm happy to share I found the issue, and am sharing the solution in case others have the same problem.  The interesting thing is the setting that I changed is different on the two working computers.  In IE9 navigate to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and the first check box under Accelerated Graphics...check it.  Restart IE and voila, it is fixed.  The other two PCs I am using have this box unchecked and AFP works fine...odd.

  • Flash Player seems to have lost functionality

Suddenly the Flash 8 player has lost the ability to show filter effects [blur]. It worked fine before [I'm using Flash Professional 8 and the latest browsers, Safari, Firefox, Opera]. What happened?

Flash Player 9 is available at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash

  • Flash Player seems to install fine but still doesn't work

I am having the same problem with Firefox 3.6.13 as well as IE 8.0
OS Name    Microsoft Windows XP Professional

I hope someone can help me.

Well, is there any Adobe programs you don't have? LOL, maybe I should have asked that:-) Thanks for the info. It is revealing and curious as well.
You have the Adobe Flash Player plugin (non-IE browsers-FF), but not the Shockwave Flash Control in your browser plugins.
You don't have the Adobe Flash Player ActiveX in Add/Remove, but you DO have the Shockwave Flash Object Control in your IE browser. Hmmmm How or why that happened, I don't know. Some glitch when Uninstalling/Installing FP, I would guess.
I see the Adobe download Manager as well (DLM) and can see that you would need that for certain Adobe programs. Since Flash Player is a browser plugin(ActiveX for IE and Plugins for the non-IE browsers) and the download is under 3MB it is better not to use it. However, I am more interested in the addons that the DLM used for FP Installs.
Go to Tools, Manage addons and look under "Show"(light text) in all categories and see if you have a getplus, get_atlcom Class or a DLM Control listed. Look in the Toolbar & Extensions also.
Do the same with FF, plugins, addons and extensions.
On the FlashPlayerTrust, go back to your Flash files, right click on it and open and see what files are listed.
Let me know on the above and did I ask you what Anti-Virus you use? If not, let me know that also.
    Thanks,

  • Flash player seems to download, but doesn't actually "work".

I have tried downloading flash player SEVERAL times to achieve the same result each time.  I begin download process, halfway through, it tells me to close out internet explorer and i do. The download process continues to 100%. I click finish. I attempt to watch a video on Youtube, for example, just to have it tell me to download flash player again. It's been quite frustrating...
I have windows 7, internet explorer, 64 bit.

  • After I downloaded the new version of Adobe Flash Player 11.3.300.262, I can't seem to play games with my friends on Yahoo Messenger.

It could be a coincidence but when I upgraded to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player 11.3.300.262 I can't seem to play any games on Yahoo Messenger with my friends. I know when I updated for some reason I had to try 3 times before it took it. It shows it's updated. I'm wondering if I have to un-install and re-install it. Also, I never use Internet Explorer 8 but when I went in there to check I found a plug in check link there and it showed over there that Adobe Flash Player needed updating but it was an older version and not the one Foxfire had me update too. Now I'm really confused if this is causing a problem. I have never had to check Internet Explorer for plug ins before. Have always just updated in Foxfire since that's what I use. The Adobe Flash Player seems to play videos okay so not really sure if that's the issue or not. My Java plug-ins have been fine and have been updated awhile ago, so I know it's not that. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Well, after hours of trying to figure it out I gave up and un-installed and re-installed that last verion of Adobe Flash Player and now it seems I can play games again in Messenger. Everything else had been fine just that. I can only figure it was because it was having a hard time updating the first time and took me 3 tries. So even though it said it was installed, apparently it wasn't done correctly.
Though when I couldn't figure out what was wrong at first I looked and checked to see all the things were enabled that were supposed to be and they were.
I even tried to go to the Adobe site and download the last version I had and couldn't find it. Kept coming up with the new version. Others said if you download a particular older version it may not have all the security features in it.
This really gets to be a bit much, especially when you're by yourself and have only a smattering of knowledge of technical things.
Thanks fore responding to my question.

  • Flash Player Installer Is Atrocious

Flash Player Installer absolutely sucks!  It is without doubt the worst program I have to interact with on a regular basis.
First, you have to download the installer.  17 Mb!!!  Talk about bloatware!  I guess cable modem users might not complain, but is that really close to 100% of all people now?
Then, once the installer is downloaded, which usually takes about 5 minutes, installing the program takes only a few seconds.  Does something seem disproportionate here?
Then, the thing I hate the most, is that you try to trick me into enabling silent automatic updates.  Why can't you leave my settings as they are?  But no, I have to remember to opt OUT.  Every time.
The next thing I hate even more, but which is part of Flash Player itself and not the installer, is that, if I forget to change the check box, and only see it after I have hit the Done button and the dialog window is closing, I can't just go to Control Panel (I have a Windows system) and fix it.
I have to go to Goolge and look up how to do it.  Then I have to go to the web page Google found, then to another web page linked to from that instruction page, wait for yet another download, and then right-click it, choose Properties and then disable the blinkety-blank silent automatic updates.
All this takes at least 10 minutes of completely unnecessary time.
Today, after you had tricked me into enabling silent automatic updates and I got to that web page, it told me that the animation required a new tool and I needed a new version of Flash Player.  Even though I had just finished updating it not five minutes before!!!
This took me to yet another web page, where I had to install Flash Player from scratch!  This took at least another 10 minutes!
When I was finally all done, I went back to the web page where I can disable automatic updates, and when the "animation" loaded, all I saw was something that looked like an ad.  No movement whatsoever.  This is an animation?
I right-clicked on it anyway, just to see what would happen, and I did get the menu that allowed me to select Properties, so I was able to disable silent automatic updates.
All this wasted about half an hour of my valuable time.  For nothing!!!
Yes, I wasted more time writing this, but I am so angry I really wanted to express it.  This entire experience today was so infuriating that I seriously considered just uninstalling Flash Player altogether.
I am a professional software designer, and I'm telling you, if I ever designed a piece of software as bad as Flash Player Installer, I would be fired.  And I think your designers ought to be fired too.
ALL RIGHT, THIS IS THE LAST STRAW!
As I was proofreading this post, my firewall pops up that Adobe Flash Player Updater wants to access the Internet.  So all this rigmarole I had to go through didn't even work!!!
I just told the firewall to permanantly block any access from Flash Player Updater to the internet.  I won't ever get any updates, but I am past the point of caring.
Once again, I think the entire installer team ought to be fired.

People like you are entertainment for those of us who actually know what we're doing.
Go buy a deck of cards and some stamps.

  • Adobe flash player crashes or hangs!

Ok, so whilst using Firefox, lately adobe flash player has been crashing upon opening a YouTube video. This could be when i click a video and the new page opens and freezes, or when I actually get to the video but it then crashes. Alongside this, sometimes the videos are delayed to start, as in the video starts bufferng but doesn't actually start playing until later.
I've tried many proposed solutions but none seem to have worked
    (Tried:
    New profile
    Clean Install
    Clear cache,cookies, etc..
    Disable plugins
    Addons (video without flash, etc...)
Protected mode (for FF and Flash)
Virus scans (had nothing bad that was scanned)
    Disable/ Enable hardware acceleration
Updating Flash (i'm using the latest version... 15.0.0.233)
Alongside this, i've tried using Chrome which also gives similar results, crash, hanging or the video delay at the start.
    What could be wrong?
Heres a crash report i submitted (the latest one)
    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/a34c35d8-0588-4dd1-8ae9-7e0412141122

disabling flash player seems to stop the problem (should do in theory, anyway). I've disabled it and haven't had any freezes or hangs ( as it should be expected) but videos still delay a bit before they actually play, they stream and stuff but just doesn't play instantly. could this be down to my internet (im using WiFi). i assume by disabling the flash, youtube is using html5? or this other plugin i have called "shockwave for director 12.1.4.154". either way, i'm glad it doesn't crash and freeze, but getting rid of that strange delay before the video starts would be amazing.
all the plugins i have on FF.

  • How do I get the AFP.pkg to install the Flash Player?

    Hi,
    I have iBook G4 ppc
    OS 10.4.11
I have downloaded Adobe Flash Player.pkg v. 10. When I click it I get "Easy Install on "Macintosh HD". I highlight my HD. I close all browsers. I click "Upgrade" for a basic Installation. The installation bar runs quickly across, then tells me installation is finished, but I don't end up with a Flash Player. I've used Spolight and all it comes up with is the Adobe Flash Player.pkg. Would someone please advise me on how to get Flash Player installed?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

         Thanks for your response.
I have often encountered movie files with the .flv extention, and I've never been able to play them. I really don't know _what_ I need to play these, but Adobe 'Flash Player' seemed a logical bet. The logo looks the same as the logo on these .flv files. Maybe it is a standalone player tyhat I need. Maybe 'Adobe Media Player' is the right tool. All I need is something that will play these movie files.
Last night I did a Google search for .flv and the top listing was in wikipedia, which I enclose.
I also enclose two images, or two different logos associated with .flv files that I've downloaded onto my computer. Both the files with the realplayer logo and the files with the videocamera logo, when clicked open as I describe in my first post above, with the blank window.
I hope I'm describing my issue clearly to you. the bottom line is just to be able to play those movie files.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Video
Flash Video is a container file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player (initially produced by Macromedia) versions 6–10. … There are two different video file formats defined by Adobe Systems and supported in Adobe Flash Player: FLV and F4V. The audio and video data within FLV files are encoded in the same way as they are within SWF files. The latter F4V file format is based on the ISO base media file format and is supported starting with Flash Player 9 update 3.[1][2]
The format has quickly established itself as the format of choice for embedded video on the web. Notable users of the Flash Video format include YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo! Video, metacafe, Reuters.com, and many other news providers.
The standards documentation for BBC Online states that the BBC now preferentially accepts Flash videos for submission, to the disadvantage of other formats previously in use on its sites[3] such as RealVideo or WMV.
Though the Flash Video container format itself is published, most of the compression formats used with it are patented. Flash Video FLV files usually contain material encoded with codecs following the Sorenson Spark or VP6 video compression formats. The most recent public releases of Flash Player also support H.264 video and HE-AAC audio.
Flash Video is viewable on most operating systems, via the widely available Adobe Flash Player and web browser plugin, or one of several third-party programs.

  • Flash player won't install after Antivirus8

I had the Antivirus8 problem this week.  Malwarebytes seems to have uninstalled it.  I have also run Eset Online Scanner and Microsoft malicious remover tool.  They all now say I'm clean.  But my flash player no longer works.  I have turned off my AVG 9.0 (why didn't it catch the virus!!), and have downloaded the flash uninstaller and the installer.  Ran them both, rebooting inbetween.  flash player seems to install, but when I go to the adobe test site i get the red x instead of the video showing that the flash player is working.  Online sites that require flash player do not work either.
This all is new since the antivirus 8.  I never had a problem with flash before.  I am running Windows 7 Home, 64 bit, and internet explorer  I also have mozilla firefox.  I have tried using the  both IE 32 bit and IE 64 bit, as well as firefox, and all say that flash needs to be installed.
    Help please!

Thank you so much for your support,GLPCPA.
It is a good idea but some Japanese can not do system restore(have no point of system restore).
So I want another new infos on adobe F player will not install after Antivirus 8 infection.

  • Since Gamers and those who watch online videos are having trouble with Adobe Flash Player 10, why am I, who does neither, having the beast crash all the time?

Adobe Flash Player seems to wait until I am near the end of the Yahoo comics section before it crashes, but not always, sometimes it just seems to have a mind of its own and crashes indiscriminately.

As I am the person having this problem, I am at a loss as to what to say in Reply. I thought I was making progress just by noting that video watchers and gamers were having this problem. Then I thought that it might be worthy of note that it seemed to happen more often when I was reading the yahoo comics section, I happen to like the comics. So, I suppose that my question should be, Am I being discriminated against because I do not watch online videos, play games and happen to enjoy the comics?

  • Flash Player 10.2 apparently installs OK in Win7, but I can't find it in Program Files...

I received a DVD that has an F4V on it.  My Win7 laptop apparently doesn't recognize this file extension, so I downloaded Flash Player 10.2 (I think I downloaded it, anyway).  The Adobe Download Manager seemed to install OK, and then Flash Player seems to install OK as well.  However, there is no desktop icon, it is not listed in Program Files and when I doubleclick my F4V file, it still tells me that Windows doesn't recognize the file extension.  I rebooted, still no joy.  Am I forgetting some step in this installation process?

The standard Flash Player is a browser add-on, not a standalone player to play local files.
You can download the standalone player (Projector) from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Note that the download is the projector, not an installer, so you'll need to make the file association, desktop shortcut, etc. manually.

  • Flash Player and Windows 7

OK.  I also have the issue with Flash Player seeming to download and install but not work.   I checked the activex addons and it shows up.  I can't find a directory anywhere even after changing the settings to show all.
And if this is not annoying enough I have the same problem w shockwave.
I realize that w W7  I'm missing something  but with all the reorganization I can't find things.
    Suggestions please.
I did find in control panel a selection called default programs and under that a selection which is associate file extentions w programs
I see that .swf is for shockwave flash player but it labeled as unknown app.  It appears that I can set that but first have to find the programs.    even after setting file options to show hidden files I could not find  either the shockwave or flash player
Well I am not sure if I have progress or regression....  I deinstalled it all.  then reinstalled shockwave.  It said I needed to reboot to complete the install.  I let it....  no shockwave.  I went back out to the installation and tried again and it says I need to reboot to complete the install.  I've gone round this loop 4 times.   I checked in the registry for anything adobe and only found reader.
I guessl neither shockwave nor flash player  is compatible w W 7  yet

well after 3-4 reboots it says it's installed... again... but still does not work.  I found another thread here that said it should be under windows/system32/Macromed/ ...  something..   I don't have the directory Macro anything directory.
    Message was edited by: AnnoyedInOH

First.  IE has entries for the flash player and shockwave.  The Java level I have is JAVA 6 update 14
Second.  Both the flash player and shockwave are installed according to Programs and Features on the control panel.
Third:  There is no Macromed directory under system23.  I did find one under:  c:\windows\SysWOW64.  The Macromed directory does have a Flash directory with 4 files.  Flash10d.ocx, FlashUtil10d.exe, an install log and uninstall_activeX.exe
Fourth.  The control panel has a selection called: Default programs.  when I click on that I see a selection that allows me to associate a file type with a program.  In that list  .swf is not associated w anything.    Since .swf files are not associated w the flash player should I associate them with the flash player?
I have no problem w updating Java to update 18.  I am reluctant to delete the older version though as I have encounterd programs in the past which won't run with newer ones.
