Flash Player *Totally Crashes* System

So this has been a longtime ongoing issue, and nothing I do fixes it.  Ever since the updates starting with 11.x, it has been nothing but trouble.  I have followed every single troubleshooting step, but no matter what I do, it always completely crashes my system and forces me to restart, every single time.
I'm currently on Windows 7 64-bit -- and I also have a computer with Win 7 32-bit, but rarely use that one -- with the latest Flash Player 12.0.70.
No matter what I do, which browser I use, all the troubleshooting -- and yes, I mean all troubleshooting -- steps never work.  I can only watch a few Flash videos or play a few Flash games at a time before it starts slowing things down and freezing and crashing my system.  Unfortunately, more sites are requiring updated Flash, so I can't revert back to a properly working version without the stupid update prompt.
I have also seen numerous reports from other people about similar issues -- freezes, crashes, browser issues -- but nothing seems to work for many of those people, either.
So my question is: When will Adobe fix it???  And what in the world can I do in the meantime, without having to literally constantly restart my computer just to get it working again because of these freezes and crashes from Flash Player??

That is actually probably the one thing I have not tried yet as that was never in any of the troubleshooting steps anywhere that I have found in my quest to get Flash working properly on my systems.  So I'll work on that later.  I'll report back with the results when I can.
UPDATE: So I tried it on a clean install on another computer, no additional plugins or add-ons or anything else extra installed (except the basics and a few media conversion programs I already had on it), and that seems to be working perfectly fine.  I have multiple tabs running Flash videos and it's still running normally, no slow downs, hiccups, jumps, or crashes.  So it appears that I have some...*thing*...on my main system causing the issues, but I would have no clue what it is, and I don't want to do a clean install as I have nothing to backup my data with at this time nor can afford it right now.  I'll have to poke around and see what I can figure out.  Thanks for the help, Mike.  It was getting really stupidly frustrating, but now I know it's just something on my computer.
UPDATE2: So after a bit of speculation and digging around, it seems the cause was not only due to my system being bogged down by other programs, but also extreme buildup of dust causing the system to overheat and slowing down processing altogether. So with that cleaned up out of the way, it's working much better now. It doesn't slow down and crash so much. I just never thought of actually opening it up to clean it out, but good thing I did. Frustrations have abated and everything is working smoothly now.

This is the latest version.  I used the uninstaller tool and did a fresh reinstall. I did not delete all the directories from the old setting, so that might be next, but I feel like I am grasping at straws here.
The firefox installation is also the latest version.  I am on Windows 7 x64. Dual Xeons.
I do notice the flash control panel says (32 bit), which seems odd.
I read where it said to try turning off hardware acceleration, but I do not have such a setting in my CP, and I cannot get the flash player to work long enough to use the old settings panel.
Can someone give me some steps to isolate the problem?

OK, now. I have not used facebook on firefox in a few days, and I have not seen the flash crashes.
In fact, no firefox crashes.  But I now have  20 in the last 5 minutes.
    Not flash, however.
Could be something else, or this could be all related.
Flash is working on my fitbit dashboard, so that's just *not* the problem. Or not at the moment.
This crash dump is quite a bit different from the last one.

  • Flash Player 9 Crashes Without An Error Message

    Hello,
Since I downloaded the latest update of Flash Player 9
(december 2007?), my problems started. Flash Player 9 crashes (IE7)
without an error message at sites like:
    Zoo Tycoon.com
    My own site
    And many more.
To give you guys as much information as possible about the
    problem:
    - The first site shouldn't give a warning, and it didn't,
till I downloaded the update of Flash Player 9. It now looks like
    this >
    Screen
    - The second site is my own site, which should look like this
    >
    Screen
(Screen is made at an older PC, which hasn't got the update of FP9
    installed!)
    - It now looks like this>
    Screen
(Screen is made at my current PC, Windows XP with the update
    installed.)
    - I also can't upload pictures at some sites, because they
    require Flash >
    Screen
    - Adobe says I've succesfully installed the latest version of
    Flash Player, version 9.0.115.0 >
    Screen
    My system is:
    - Microsoft Windows XP
    - Home Edition
    - Version 2002
    - Service Pack 2
    - Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz
    - Clock Rate 3.01GHz, 1.50GB
    - Internet Explorer 7
I'm now forced to use an older machine, Windows 2000, to
update my site and view other sites, because that PC doesn't have
the Flash Player update installed. ;)
Things I tried to solve the problem:
    - Uninstall and reinstall
    - Read and tried all the Troubleshooters at this site
    - Adobe's uninstall program
    - SubInACL
    - Installed an older version of Flash Player (7 & 8)
    - Regedit
    - Manually renamed the files in the SYSTEM32/Macromed/Flash
folder (like explained on the forum)
Could someone please help me? I'm probably not the only one
    dealing with this problem...
    Regards,
    Sophie
P.S.: I'm Dutch, so please don't mind my English....
    :)

Is there no-one who knows the answer? And nobody who has the
    same problem? :(

  • Flash player keeps crashing

Since a couple of months I've been having serious problems with flash player. Must be version 11. something.
I know there's been posts about this, but would like to try get a fix for my specific situation before I start trying 101 different ones aimed for other users.
Basically there's 2 games I play online, Forge of Empires and Goalunited, both flash games. I'm happily playing around when after 15 mins or sometimes sooner flashplayer crashes. (get the blank page with the grey exclamation mark in the centre). Usually I just refresh and it works again for another 10 minutes. Other times it says it can't detect flash player on my system, which means I have to reinstall it, which is a major pain, because I have to close all windows, MSN etc or it won't install.
I'm using Windows 7, Internet explorer 9. Tried using Chrome and Firefox, but it does the same there, so it's not about the browser. Uninstalled and reinstalled it, no fix. It also happens on Youtube and imagine on any flash based game/site I'd use.
Frankly, I'm sick of it so I'm asking you for help. I've been using flash player for many many years without a problem, ever, but lately is it doing my head in with all the random crashes.
Let me know what information you need and I will provide it so we can look at what the problem is.
    Thanks

Getting the Out of Memory icon is the result of one of two things: 1.) you're running out of system memory (RAM), or 2.) you're running out of GPU texture memory.
I would first run the game in a single window with nothing else running on the system and see if that improves the situation for you.  Each browser window or tab that's open consumes resources.  Most browsers have also added hardware graphics acceleration to speed up HTML rendering over the last year.  This means that there's new contention for the GPU resources on your system.
To get around the GPU memory limitation (if that's what you're hitting), you might try disabling hardware acceleration.  (Right click on some Flash content, choose Settings, click the left-most tab and uncheck Use Hardware Acceleration)  This will impact performance on on graphics and video tasks that currently leverage hardware acceleration, but may get you around the memory limitation you're bumping into.  It's the easiest way to figure out whether or not that's what you're running into.
There are some third-party anti-malware/anti-virus/firewall applications that multiple people have referenced on the forums as causing general memory leaks on their system.  You might consider temporarily disabling or uninstalling those kinds of applications as well, as you may see improvement there.
It's also very possible that this is just an issue with the game(s).  If you create a whole bunch of objects during gameplay and you don't release them, we won't garbage collect them because we think they're actively being used.  Over time, the memory usage is just going to grow until it hits the upper limit.

  • Flash Player 10 crashing. simple language please.

  • Adobe Flash Player keeps crashing in Google Chrome

I am using Google Chrome and every time I open the browser Adobe Flash Player keeps crashing.  I have Windows 7.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Hello,
Just chiming in to say that I am experiencing the same issues.
    using Win 7, Firefox 19.0, Flash 11.6.602.168
    Tried the DRM fix,
Tried uninstalling Firefox and Flash, restarting Win 7, reinstalling Firefox and Flash
Tried reinstalling display and my NVidia drivers.
Still getting "Sorry we were unable to stream this video" message.
    Also having problems on Chrome.
Some troubleshooting threads suggest to go to chrome://plugins and disable the chrome flash player.
When i disable the chrome flash player and try to play an amazon instant video, I get the "Sorry we were unable to stream this video" message.
When i disable the system flash player and try to play an amazon instant video, the video plays but 'stutters.'  The audio is fine, but the video alternately pauses and plays for a second or two over and over again.
AIV works just fine on my iPad.
For everyone viewing, please take 30 secs to create an account and let Adobe know that their product is causing problems for your Amazon service.
This needs to get fixed asap!
    Thanks
    V.

  • Flash Player continually crashing.

When in Firefox trying to read Yahoo Flash crashes within a few seconds. Reset page, crashes again within a few seconds. Go to another page, crashes within a few seconds. Have to go through a "close" selection process each time. Vista home occurence report says " ShimEng.dll_unloaded" as cause. How to fix? Where is  this dll available, where to load it? No luck so far with Adobe advice. Fresh reload of Flash Player still crashes. Yahoo videos cannot be viewed, etc. Am an elderly dummy with PC's. need help in basic plain language please.
I suspect that the trouble initiated by trouble makers trying to load a bad Trojan by offering to "update Windows Drivers???" . Luckily Kaspersky stopped them. Any help very much appreciated. Roy.

Unfortunately, this isn't a Flash Player crash.  It's crashing down in the guts of your operating system.
When I see operating system files start getting corrupted on my own computer, I usually operate on the assumption that either my hard disk is on it's way out, or I have a malware infection.  Since you're talking about Trojans, I'm thinking there's a good chance that you're in the second camp.  If it's been a while since you've backed up your important data, I'd make that your first priority.  I wouldn't bother backing up the operating system and applications, but all of your photos and documents, etc.  USB memory sticks can also be infected with malware at the hardware level and can re-infect your computers, so I'd go with an external hard disk or something.
Once you've got your stuff backed up, I'd spend an evening reinstalling the operating system.  You haven't mentioned it specifically, but I'm thinking that you'e on Windows Vista.   If you're taking the time to reinstall the OS, I'd recommend thinking seriously about upgrading to Windows 7 as part of that process.  The Win7 upgrade is less than $100 on Amazon.  The vast majority of Windows users are on Win7 at this point (Vista is < 10% last time I checked), so much more effort goes into making sure that software works well on Win7.

  • My flash player keeps crashing on a lot of sites i go to

my flash player keeps crashing on a lot of sites i go to especially ebay and it says adobe flash player crashed click here to reload. this never happened on my xp os but i recently installed win 7 64 bit on my pc but i also did a clean install with a brand new hd so how can i prevent this from happening

Download the following files by right clicking the links and selecting "Save target as" (IE) or "Save Link as"(Firefox).
    Flash Player Uninstaller
    Shockwave Player Uninstaller
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
    Shockwave Player 12 FULL Installer
Save the files to your Downloads folder - DO NOT run anything yet.
    Reboot your system.
BEFORE opening anything, go to the Downloads folder and run the UNINSTALLERS to remove all instances of Flash Player and Shockwave.
Run the Shockwave Installer first, then visit http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFull&P2_Plat form=Win32&P3_Browser_Version=MSIE with Internet Explorer, (there isn't a direct download link - sorry) and install the Shockwave FULL installer for IE.
Next, run the Flash Player ActiveX installer, and then the Flash Player (other browsers) Installer.
Lastly, see:Enabling Flash Player in Internet Explorer  and: ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer  to make 100% sure that Flash Player is enabled and NOT being blocked by ActiveX controls.

  • Flash Player 10 crashing while streaming an MP3

I am currently building a streaming MP3 application, but have run into a problem.  If I stream my MP3 using Flash Player 10.0.12 or older it works great.  However, if I use Flash Player 10.0.22 or newer, Flash Player is crashing.  It is happening primarily in IE, but I have had it crash in FireFox and Chrome as well.  IE 6 is crashing almost instantly in my XP scenario.  When I use Flash 10.0.12 the MP3 streams flawlessly in all of my test environments.  Has anyone encountered similar problems while streaming an MP3 using the latest Flash player?

I am using the SWF Sound project in my solution: http://code.google.com/p/swfsound/
I have been able to capture several debug logs per Adobe's support instructions, but am still awaiting approval to submit them to the bug database.  Any help or information is greatly appreciated.

Hi, The only general information that I could give you is to try turning off the hardware acceleration feature, which is turned on by default. You right click any video, Settings, Display Settings and UN check the H.A. It has also been recommended to update the graphic and video drivers to the latest versions. If that doesn't work, then there is some other conflict on the system. Anti-Virus and or add ons in the browsers(s) Now this is assuming that Flash Player is Installed correctly, along with the IE and non-IE browsers that Flash Player supports.
This site explains the hardware acceleration:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Flash player keeps crashing, but it's up to date on my computer. So is Firefox. Help?

For some reason, starting today, every page I visit on Firefox (no matter what) comes up with a notification that the Adobe Flash Player plugin has crashed. It started when I was trying to attach a word document to an email to one of my professors on my Google-supported school email account. Every time I tried to attach the document, Flash Player crashed and it wouldn't upload. I finally had to send it using my Live email, which worked, but now Flash Player crashes on every webpage I visit in about 2 seconds. My Flash Player is up to date, as is my version of Firefox. What's going on here? (Note: None of the information of the "Adobe Flash Player has crashed" page was helpful at all.)

Yes, this has been a problem for a lot of people. ADOBE just released Flash Player 11.0.1.152, and that seems to have fixed the problem. It still am finding it a bit laggy to load Flash scripts, but it no longer displays the crashed window.
You can download the file from the official Flash website here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

You haven't actually asked a question, but as stated you should only download Flash Player directy from Adobe.
Nor have you said what version of OS X and Safari you are running.
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • Flash Player 13 crashes with Mac OS X 10.6.8

Any version of Flash Player 13 crashes on activation.
Installing FP 12 as suggested allows Flash Player to work, but FF 28 plugin check complains "Out of Date" plugin. Update.
How serious is the security issue of running this older version of Flash Player?
(How serious is tricking the Java Installer to ignore the >OS 10.7.2 restriction?)
    Thanks.

Adobe is aware of this problem. Unfortunately, in order to make both Firefox and Safari happy, you probably do have to use Firefox 12. This thread has more info and links:

  • My adobe flash player keeps crashing. Why?

I use Mozilla Firefox exclusively as my browser. When I am connected to Facebook and playing their casino games, the Adobe Flash player keeps randomly crashing. When it crashes, it locks up the computer and I have to shut down and reopen the browser. Recently, an information box has been opening up in the upper left corner of the screen called the Adobe Flash Player action box or something like that. The context is filled with lots of computer jargon I don't understand. At the bottom of the box there are 2 options to pick from, either dismiss or continue. Most of the time the screen freezes up before I've had the chance to pick one. After I go to the Windows task manager and shut down the boxes that were open, I get the normal gray "Adobe Flash Player has crashed" screen. The really odd thing is that there is no prompt allowing me to send a crash report to Mozilla. I have uninstalled and completely reinstalled the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. Just in case these might be a problem, I have the following 3 "add-ons" loaded in to the browser: Quick Time Plug-in 7.7.6 7.7.6.0, Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.305, and Shockwave for Director 12.1.7.157. As well, in case they might be the problem, I have the following 2 programs installed into my computer are: Adobe Flash Player 16 NPAPI and Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1. FYI: I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit. Hopefully I have given you enough information to make an assessment. If you need anything from me, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.
