Flash Player Universal Binary

Hello,
I recently bought a new imac with intel. when I try to veiw
sites containing flash content i am directed to a macromedia site
which says i need to
1. download flash player universal binanry.
2. replace old plug in by coping new one into same folder as
old one
this has not worked both plug ins remainin file (and I still
can not access flash) Is it ok to just delete the original plug in?
or is there an uninstall process? Do you think it will work?
Thanks Shontelle

Antonio, I think we may have a communication breakdown here. lol.
An Intel Binary is for Intel processors only.
A PowerPC Binary is for PowerPC processors only.
A Universal Binary is for both.
Adobe offer an Intel download and a PowerPC download, which would lead one to believe that one is for Intel processors only and one is for PowerPC processors.
However, the Intel download has "UB" in its filename, which would suggest it is a Universal Binary after all, not an Intel binary as the website states.
A Universal Binary and an Intel Binary will run the same on an Intel machine, I was just wondering which one it actually was.

  • Adobe flash player plugin binary file crashes everytime i launch to install on new laptop+browser

installed latest version on FF on new Asus X200MA. YouTube plays fine in browser, but a number of websites - wired.com - for one keep showing the brick prompting to download adobe flash player plugin. following instructions from adobe both auto and manual install. every time the downloaded binary, or the larger .exe file are launched it freezes and does not respond.

Would you mind opening a new bug on this issue over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Here's a post that describes the information we'll need and instructions for generating a crash log:

  • Flash Player UB: Persistant problem...please help...

    Hello everyone,
Recently, I have learned that Adobe realeases Flash Player Universal Binary version 9.0.20.0 (you can check it here http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BIOW).
Ok, I download this and installed it on my MBP. The weird thing is, after this installation, I could no longer read Flash content on any webpages including www.adobe.com (which I saw a Quicktime logo with Question mark in it). I searched on Adobe website for help and found Uninstall Flash Player file, which I also used to remove Flash Player. Then, I re-installed the Flash player for Intel...Still no luck. Say, if I go to www.cartier.com (I'm not rich, just want to test my version of Flash Player) it prompted me to install Flash Player which clearly states that my Flash Player wasn't installed properly.
    Things I have done:
-Uninstall and re-install Flash Player UB from adobe website.
-I have Macromedia Flash 8 Professional installed on my computer
-I have reset Safari, deleted cache, set it not to run under Rosetta.
    -Repair permission
Am I missing something or am I doing something which is in wrong order?
Any help would be very much appreciated and warmly welcome.
    Thank a tons in advance...
    Cheers,
    James

I had the same problem, it seems the un-installer doesn't remove all the old version bits and you have to do it manually, then install the new version. It does work eventually ...

  • Flash player 9 / modified video

    Hi,
I'm trying to modify an incoming NetStream camera picture.
Worked fine in Flash Player 8, but doesn't in Flash Player 9. Since
there's no Flash 8 Universal Binary for Mac and the emulation is
very slow I need to upgrade to Player 9. How do I configure the
Player to display modified video signals (with BitmapData). I've
seen something about 'Administrative user controls', but there's no
mms.cfg on my system. In the Settings Manager everything is set to
    'allow'.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Flash player intel probs

    Hey,
Yesterday I got my new iMac intel 20''. I installed flash 8 on it and accidentally reinstalled the flash plugin. The flash plugin provided with flash is powerPC and works with flash but not with universal Safari. I don't want to run Safari in Rosetta mode for flash so would like to get the intel flash plugin back. But macromedia does not provide it yet on its site and says my browser is unsupported. Reinstalling Safari from the OSX disk did also not help.
Does anyone know where I can find the Flash player universal on the install disk or on the web?

I tried your strategy. I reinstalled Safari from the install DVD. But it didn't work. I must be doing something different. Did you delete the Macromedia Flash Player 8 before you reinstalled Safari? Did you reinstall the Flash Player from the Macromedia web site after you reinstalled Safari. It is not clear from your message what you exactly did besides reinstalling Safari.
Can you try if you can open the Flash media on this page:
    http://www.scrawnytobrawny.com/course/day-1/
    I can't open it.

There is no "flash player similar to Adobe Flash Player". Flash is a proprietary Adobe product. There is currently no version of Flash for iOS.

  • Galgotias University - Flash Player issue in Firefox

    Hi,
I am Garima studying in Galgotias University. I have an issue with the flash player it is working in Google Chrome but not working in Mozilla Firefox. I have an updated version of flash player. Please any one can recommend any solution

    Hello Garima,
Google Chrome uses a different type of plugin than Firefox. Also Google Chrome embeds Flash Player in the browser so you don't have to install it separately.  Using Firefox, go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download the installer for Firefox.

  • Flash for Mac: How Long Before Universal Binary?

I have an iMac G4 1 GHz PPC and am contemplating purchasing
Flash 8 (or some software containing Flash) for my son. I recently
found a good educational source with a decent price. To my
understanding the current version of Flash is PPC only, but it may
be able to run under Rosetta on the new Intel Macs. I have heard
that Adobe will not release a universal binary update to Flash 8
and that Flash will likely not run natively on Intel Macs until the
next major release of Flash (I guess that will be 9). I plan to
keep my G4 for quite a while but I can see some handwriting on the
wall that indicates we'll probably get another Mac (Intel) within
    the year.
A few questions. Has anyone run Flash under Rosetta on an
Intel Mac? How does it run? Do you think I should just go ahead and
buy Flash 8 now and start getting some good use out of it (the edu
discount makes it a pretty good deal anyway)? When is the next
version of Flash expected in an ordinary development cycle?
    Thanks very much.

Well, from a switchers point of view, I have never run Adobe
products under PPC as I was always a Unix and Windows user,
however, as of recently I have switched all my systems to Intel
based Macs, and I have to say, that although I can not run my
business without Flash 8, its performance under Rosetta is dismal
    at best.
On an average day of 4-5 hours of developement, Flash 8 will
crash for no reason every 15 to 20 minutes. I have to save my
changes every few minutes or I am bound to lose my work. The speed
is reduced more than 50%, so unless you can deal with the feeling
that you are developing underwater with the speed issues and the
constant crashes, I would highly suggest waiting for Flash Pro 9.
An as a final note, this going to Adobe, who refuses to even
give a tentative release date, I am appauld at your lack of concern
for your customers. Every other major company has already released
updates to their products as Universal Binaries, yet you talk like
your products are so more advanced then any other products on the
planet, that it requires you to do strick beta testing to ensure it
runs properly. My answer to that is this... ANYTHING that is native
to Intel Mac has got to run better than your products under
Rosetta. Crashing every 15-20 minutes and running like a snail is
NOT an alternative to possibly bugs that may have occured by
releasing a universal upgrade for Flash 8. So that is simply an
excuse on your part for not supporting your customers.

  • Flash Universal Binary

For when a Flash universal binary build? I bought a MacBook
Pro and I have to use Flash under Windows because the ppc build of
Flash is extremely slow ... and i mean really slow ...What's the
point in buying a Macintosh? to use it on windows? Common guys ...a
small build ... hope your not waiting for Flash 9 (or whatever will
be next) ..and talking about that ...Flex is available only for
Windows ... no Mac version! ... If anyone else has the same problem
gimme a buzz and let's do a mail for Mr. Adobe ...

    i had the same issue....
when i looked in my add/remove programs i noticed that there
were two instances - one for adobe flash 9, the other for
macromedia flash 8. I can only infer that it didn't remove the old
    version.
i then removed both versions, restarted my machine went to a
webpage that used flash, it prompted me for the download and voila
    - success :)
hope this works for you too!

  • Flash Player 9 - OS X Universal: Stopped working in SAFARI ONLY.

I installed it a week or two ago. It worked fine. Today it
worked fine too. Then it just stopped. Nothing will load in Safari.
ONLY STOPPED IN SAFARI! I know this means that it's probably an
Apple problem, but I'm just posting around to see if I can get
    anything.

Hi, I am not familiar with Adobe Bridge at all, and just a little with Mac:-) What I do know is that if Flash Player is Installed correctly there is a plugin in the browser.
Look into the HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory and see if you have the below two files:
        Flash Player.plugin
        flashplayer.xpt
This Flash Player plugin, Shockwave Flash should be enabled.
If you want to post back your Flash files that were Installed, we can see if all of the old files were removed during the Uninstall.

  • Update flash player on mac os x 10.5.8

i have a mac os x 10.5.8 and i am trying to update flash player but every time i try i get a message saying it requires 10.6 or higher. how can i update my flash player??

Running Leopard you can't. What you have is as far as it will go.
Leopard was the last build Mac released that was a "Universal Binary". In other words, it would run on PowerPC or Intel Processors. Once Snow Leopard was released, Adobe stopped deveopment on Universal binary builds of Flash Player.
I know it seems like just another "money grab" by Apple and Adobe trying to force everyone to buy a new Operating System, but the entire industry has moved away from the old Apple architecture and software for it.

  • Flash player not installing

Every time I try to install the updated Adobe Flash player it says the application install adobe flash player quit unexpectedly.

    Good news, bad news....
    First, the bad.
Since you're running 10.5.8, your Flash Player is as up to date as it will ever get. 10.3 is the "end of the road" for PowerPC or Universal Binary (PPC/Intel) versions of Flash Player.
    Now, the good.
Because you have an Intel Mac AND it's a Core2Duo (64 bit - CoreDuo's were 32 bit), you can upgrade to OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for a paltry $20 through Apple. They ship anywhere for free too.
Once you've upgraded to 10.6, you'll need to install Apple's 10.6.8 combo update and from there, you'll find a whole world of software that's unusable with 10.5, including the latest Flash Player.
About the only thing I'd recommend would be to check OWC.com (OtherWorldComputing) or Crucial.com and purchase a 4Gb RAM pack for your Mac. Snow Leopard will run with 2Gb, but it'll fly with 4.

  • Adobe Flash Player 9 won't install on my Macbook Pro!!!!!!!!!!

I've had a problem with all these flashplayers on my MBP. I took it into Apple and they were able to get Flashplayer 8 (I believe) to finally work. This was quite some while ago. Well, these websites are using flashplayer 9 and I couldn't view them correctly, so I started to install it (the way the directions stated) and it gets hung up w/4 items remaining to install. It taxes my CPU from 90-100% the entire time and it just stays like that until I quit the installation.
I've downloaded the uninstaller and ran it. I re-downloaded the flashplayer and tried installing it again, same thing. Re-did it...same outcome, obviously.
This is driving me insane and now I have no flashplayer whatsoever.
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: MacBook Pro 15"
    Machine Model: MacBookPro1,1
    CPU Type: Intel Core Duo
    Number Of Cores: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
    L2 Cache (shared): 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    SMC Version: 1.2f10
    I'm running 10.4.7 as well.

Be sure you are getting the version of Flash Player from here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/public_beta/. Other versions are not universal binaries and will not work on Intel Macs.
The following may be helpful in learning what may and may not work properly on Intel Macs:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers. These versions are not universal binaries and will not work on Intel-Macs. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the only current choice is USB Overdrive. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (does not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • Flash Player and screen sharing

I've done some research on screen sharing but see many
contradicting answers. Some say it can't be done with the regular
Flash Player, but Breeze does it some how with some special player
they install. Yet regular players have System variables referring
to screen capture, and I've heard others say that supposedly Adobe
has stated it can be done with FMS and Flash Pro. Yet, it sure
seems like it can't be done without something additional installed.
But then, how is Avacast making it "available from anywhere on the
Web and, like the Player, requires no special download.":
    http://www.avacast.com/index.php?s=What-is-Avacaster
Based on Avacast's heavy use of live FLV video I can only
assume they are using FMS for at least some of their product.
Here's another group doing screen sharing:
    http://www.kolabora.com/news/2006/04/05/screen_sharing_and_live_annotation.htm
They mention needing JRE installed, though.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for getting back to me.
    Hironmay
I noticed the problem once I updated to Adobe Flash Player version 10.1.102.64 Universal Binary for Macs | 7.60
I am not sure what my development team in India has done and if they upgraded to the 1.3 SDK. I will check with them, and make sure that they do and see if that fixes the problem
I am not sure if I am getting a RTE, no messages or errors are popping up it is just staying a black screen.
I will pass along the suggestions you made to my development team in India, and hopefully it helps.
    I will keep you updated.
Quick question, I was looking for the notification of the latest update on the collabritive methods blog and I did not see anything there.. is there another place I should be looking for the latest news about LCCS ?
As always thanks for the help.
    Best,
    Dan
