Flash Player update install/download stops at 2 of 3

I've never had any problems in the past with installing/downloading Adobe Flash Player updates. Now I am. Why? I know Adobe Flash Player is installed on my computer, I've checked to make sure it is enabled and I have also disabled or unchecked the ActiveX filtering too. If I choose not to install Google Chrome for downloading the newest Flash Player update, does this cause the install/download to not complete and stop at 2 of 3 steps? I believe I have unchecked Google Chrome in the past with no issues, but not sure now. I usually have to go in uninstall Google Chrome because it always seems to mess with my Facebook page. So I no longer want Google Chrome installed on my computer because of this.
The install/download never gets to this point so I can finish the install/download because stops at 2 of 3 steps :
Any advise as to what to do now?

Hi,
Based on your screenshot, I'm guessing the 'Save File' option never becomes available.  Is that correct.  I also see the file being downloaded has '14' in it, which means this is a version 14 file, which you shouldn't be getting as we're up to version 17.  I've forwarded this to the folks who handle the online installer to investigate. In the meantime, you can use the offline installer posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows page, in the 'Still having problems' section.  There are several installer types for various browsers.  You'll want to update Flash Player for all browsers you use, unless you have Windows 8.x in which case, Microsoft embeds Flash Player in IE and prevents installation using the Flash Player installer, as updates are performed via updates to IE.

  • Adobe Flash Player Update and Download

On the third and final step of downloading the update, the download stops. What might be causing this?

    Try downloading the offline installers:
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
    Flash Player (Mac OS X)

  • How do I get Flash Player update installed?

When trying to install an update to Flash Player update it tells me it can not install with Mozilla Fire Fox. Also, tells me I have it already but I do not. Also, tells me to uninstall Exlorer, Fire Fox and Adobe before installing. Can you please just tell the 1 -2- 3 of installation of Adobe Flash Player.

I did that a bunch of times. I also deleted it rebooted and installed flash and it still won't work. Some sites I have flash but most don't. I think I would like to go back to the older version. But this problem is only on this M11X with winblows 7 ult. 64. On my other system I have the same but it's only 32b and it works. So how do I get this to work on a 64 system? And if I can't................ Where do I go to go back to the other version?

  • Flash player update/install failure

I know this probably has been answered but I need help.  I have xp sp3, ie 8.  Flash player worked last night, got notice to up date. Loaded installer, tried loading the newest version and got "active x control can not be registered".  I checked and no flash player is installed, turned off norton 360, checked ie settings and they are all as the troublle shooting steps say they should be.  I dont really want to pay someone $36 who I will have trouble communicateing with.  Please help.

I can only imagine that the reason you're seeing that message then is because the ActiveX control is already registered which prevents you from registering it again.
So what you could try is to unregister it and then run the installation again. To unregister the Flash ActiveX control, go to Start | Run and then copy/paste the following into the Run field and click OK: regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Director\SwDir.dll
You should get a message telling you that the file SwDir.dll has been successfully unregistered.
If it says that it can't find SwDir.dll, make sure that the operating system can see file extensions. To check that, launch Windows Explorer (CTRL+E) and on the top line, click Tools | Folder Options | View. In the list. Make sure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is checkmarked. If there's a checkmark in "Hide Extensions For Known File Types" which is the next option down, remove it, then Apply/OK and then run the command again.
Could you also check to see if this file is present on your PC: Flash9.ocx It will be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9.ocx if it is.
I don't think you'll find it because it belongs to Flash player v9.0, but you never know.

  • Flash Player starts installing but stop in 25%

    Hi there,
the problem started when I install the last version of spotify, it didn't work on my Mac, so I look on the internet and I found the problem was because I didn't have the last version of Flash Player. I started the installation but it stopped in 25%, I'd tried so many times that I decided to uninstall the program and reinstall it. But still the same....
    Any solution please...???

I have the same problem. I captured the traffic, and it looks like the problem is with the request the installer makes. It is going to the URLs http://23.218.158.246/dlm/fp.gif?type=install&pane=&os=mac&exitcode=-1&app_ver=16.0.0.287& failed_action_name=&site=live&… and http://23.218.158.246/dlm/ltr.gif?type=install&pane=&os=mac&exitcode=-1&app_ver=5.5&accept ed=N&failed_action_name=&site=…. When I try to retrieve those URLs manually, I get the following message back:
    Invalid URL
The requested URL "/dlm/fp.gif?type=install&pane=&os=mac&exitcode=-1&app_ver=16.0.0.287&failed_action_name= &site=live&aih_name=flashPlayer&aih_vers=2.0.2.13&itemid=FP_16_Mac_for_Safari_and_Firefox_ -_NPAPI&abbr=fp&dlc=flashplayer&pre_installed", is invalid.

Why is there no simple offline installer that people can download and use, instead of this complex and fragile system? I get that the update checker needs an online source, but an offline source is a required alternative.

  • Flash Player Update and Download Problem

I had a message telling me to update my Adobe Flash player, so I tried doing that. Got a message that the update needed to close, so apparently it didn't finish updating.(can't remember the message exactly since I didn't know it was going to lead to this problem). Then I found I could not open my email or other sites requiring Adobe Flash Player. It appeared that Adobe had been removed all together.
I tried downloading Adobe Flash Player 11.3.300.268. It starts downloading but in the end gives me an error message saying: "Host Unable to Load Application Configuration". I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer 8. I tried saving Adobe Flash Player to my computer before trying to run it but it won't run when I try to open it...I just get the same Host message.
I tried using System Restore to restore my settings to a date 6 days ago, but after the process completed, I got a message that the process was "incomplete because there had not been any changes to my computer"! Well, there have been changes since I used to have Adobe Flash Player and now I don't, and I can't install and run it, meaning I can't open my email or other sites that require it. Please help me fix this. I'm not a computer wizard. Would appreciate any help!

Could you try downloading and installing the appropriate stand alone installer that you can find here?

  • Adobe Flash Player Auto Install downloads same file repeatedly after successful installation.

Adobe Flash Player 11 Active X 11.5.502.135 was successfully installed and working in browser.  Auto download continued to download and install same version repeatedly, at least every hour.  Uninstall and re-install does not fix the problem.  The previous version, 11.5.502.110 did the same thing.
PC with Windows 7 64bit.  Browser:  IE 9.0.12,   32 bit.  Have temporarily uninstalled Flash Player to stop the auto downloads.

I had the file in both locations, they looked identical.... here's the one from \SysWOW64\\\
I just pasted the last 4 months.  Let me know if you need the rest of the last two years.

  • "Flash Player Update Service has stopped working and has closed."

First I'm using Chrome(up to date) on Vista 64. Have scanned for viruses and nothing was found.
I've been getting this persistent error that won't go away that just started happening a few days ago. I haven't installed anything recently. This happens even when Chrome isn't running so I don't know if Chrome is even an issue.
I've tried everything I could do:
    1. Re-installed Flash Player and switched between Chrome's built in and the external version.
    2. Disabling through the "services" config file (can't remember the exact thing I typed in)
    3. Deleting files in the flash player folders for EX: %appdata%\Adobe (something like that) WHICH in one of those folders is the "flashplayerupdateservice.exe" that can't be deleted.
Please help! Here's a pic of the error:

  • Mac IOS Flash Player updated installed but not detected

I have repeatedly installed the new version of FlashPlayer when prompted over the past few days. My computere shows the installation as successful, but it's not working. I've visited the Adobe Troubleshooting page, and it does not detect the installation, although my finder show the program as installed. My computer is compatible with the new version, although I'm running an older IOS - Snow Leopoard ( 10.6.8) I've reinstalled several times following all directions - uninstalled old version, unblocked pop-ups, disabled fierwall.
    VERY frustrating!
    What do I do?
    Thanks!

Snow Leopard is not iOS... iOS is an iPhone, an iPad or an iPod Touch. And there has never been a Flash Player for iOS, because Apple made iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touch incompatible with Flash Player right from the start.
You probably need to do a "clean install": How to perform a "clean install" of Flash Player in Mac OS X

  • I install your latest version, you ask if I want the Adobe flash player update, I download, it tells me to unistall Firefox to get flash player. What's happening?

Why would I remove your product?

'''''"I have had problems with firefox crashing for the last three month."'''''
You need to investigate the cause of your crashes that started prior to the release of the first Firefox version that offered crash protection, version 3.6.4, released in mid to late June 2010; that is just over one month ago.
<u>'''The crash protection feature does not prevent a plugin from crashing, it prevents the whole Firefox browser from crashing because of a crashing plugin; only the tab with the crashing plugin crashes.'''</u>
For information about report plugin crashes see: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Plugin+crash+reports
You need to post the crash Report IDs for the crashes occurring over the last 3 months. To do so, type '''about:crashes''' in the URL/location/address bar, then copy and paste the Report IDs (only) into your reply. See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes#Getting_help_with_your_crash
In addition, please do the following. Type '''about:support''' in the URL/location/address bar, on the screen presented, click "Copy all to Clipboard" and paste that into your reply.

  • Downloading Flash Player-update

I tried to download the Flash Player-update, but i stopped on 30%. I tried several times, but it always stopped at 30% with the "downloading"-status under the progression-bar. I tried to uninstall Flash Player, and do a clean install, but it stopped at 30 % again! What to do?

    Hi,
Are you using anti-virus software, if so, if you stop/exit the anti-virus software, does the installation proceed?
If not, or if the installation still does not proceed after stopping the anti-virus software, please try the offline installer, posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Macpage, in the 'Still having problems' section.

  • Error Flash Player Update service 11.6 r602 ... Bad file

I'm running on Windows Vista 32 with IE9. (an old Dell). I first noticed this problem when the Latest version of Flash Player was updated. Periodically windows will show an Error Flag saying the Flash Player update Service has stopped working...sometimes this flag has interfered with the smooth functioning of programs that I have running; mostly it is an annoyance.
I asked about this last week and was told to try a manual uninstall and check for the removal of all the files. Here is where I ran into the problem. But first, the steps. The Uninstaller did most of the work.
All of the rest of the files were easy to delete; EXCEPT for one. In C:/windows/system32/macromed/Flash is the file 'FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe'  11.6 r602  Version 11.6.602.180  ... It refuses to be deleted !!! I think this is the source of all the problems. I think that it is supposed to function Only with FP Ver. 11.6. and when an updated version is installed, it is left behind AND CAN'T BE deleted.
I checked the Permissions of this file and the user can only read and execute the file, nothing else. Trying to change the permissions gets you a duplicate file that can be deleted. the original file is untouched.
I have tried as Admin to delete it, no luck. I tried the "Unlocker" program and it can't find a handle. It offers to delete it on next reboot, but the file is still there.
I tried to go at it using DOS commands and get an Access Denied. Short of using a .357 Magnum; How do I kill this File????
By the way, I went ahead and reinstalled the latest FP and it works fine... Just this annoying flag keeps poping up every now and then.
P.S. I'm thinking about starting the computer in Safemode or do without windows (DOS only) and see if it will let me delete it that way, but I'm not sure I can remember all the old DOS command structure that I need.
    John

An Update: The DOS attempt did not work. (access denied) Don't Bother trying. program was in use, even though it stopped working. I finally figured out that the program somehow gets started a WIN startup... I used "Glary Utilities" in the Modules section... - System Tools - Process Manager: to Stop the Process.  Then I used in the Privacy & Security tag - File Shredder: to erase the file. ... But It Came back...again.
So I did Another Clean Uninstall After I first (as Administrator (Right click on Delete)) deleted the file C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\ FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe  (Version 11.6.602.180)  Be sure that it is the Older file that you delete!
Refer to  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315  for the procedure.
I followed the steps carefully and double checked that all and ONLY the files called for were deleted. It surprised me that in step 5. I found still another copy of  the offending file (same date) FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe (I deleted it to (as Admin (right click on delete))).
Finally I did a new Install by going to http://get.adobe.com/FlashPlayer and following the process. Note: If you have WeatherBug, shut it down first before going to the installer. (otherwise you will just have to shut it down anyway and the install may not finish (took me 2 tries)) Also, do not close your IE page until the installer tells you to or it may get confused (it did on me the first time).
I (Hopefully) have this problem corrected now.
Note: After the New install if you use windows Explorer & go to C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash  and look at the file FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe you will see that it has a Newer version.

  • Flash Player Update Dialogue

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with IE and Firefox and am still confused as to what the Flash Player Update Dialogue updates so I'll explain this as best I can. I realize IE uses Flash Player ActiveX and Firefox uses the Flash Player Plugin. Now in the past I've clicked "Install" in the Flash Player Update Dialogue window when it appears and IE opens the download page for the latest Flash release. I then install the update from the download page and that updates the Flash plugin that FF uses even though IE is set as my default browser. I have to manually update Flash Player ActiveX by opening IE, going to Adobe's website and downloading it from there. THIS IS the method I've always preferred however with the last 2 Flash releases the Flash Player Update prompt has followed the same procedure as always by opening the download page in IE but instead my Flash Player ActiveX is updated and I'd have to manually download the update for the Flash Plugin in Firefox. This has never happened with previous versions of Flash so why is the Flash's updater suddenly doing the opposite of what it had been doing? Has Adobe changed which plugin the Flash Player Update Dialogue downloads or is this a problem with my computer, perhaps the result of 1 or 2 registry entries I had CCleaner delete? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

On my Windows 7 machine, if I set IE as the default browser, when I open the Flash Player (32bit) settings manager in the Control Panel, the ONLY plug-in that appears in the Advanced tab is the ActiveX version for some reason.
If I set Firefox as my default, BOTH plug-ins appear. My system may be screwed up, but it's only two months old and aside from Office 2010 and Creative Suite 5.5, four browsers, Reader and Flash Player are ALL that's installed on it, so it's not likely.
When the ActiveX is the only plug-in that shows, the updater takes me directly to the ActiveX download page. When Firefox is the default, it goes to the page with dropdowns to choose the OS, and browser.

  • I wish to make a complaint re Latest Flash Player Update

The latest Flash Player update installed Chrome on my PC without asking if I wanted it and without my consent.  This is illegal in Australia and likely other countries too (eg USA).

    Michael,
First, the update I witnessed installed McAfee Security Scan, NOT Google toolbar. But you're absolutely right. Installing it with no "opt out" is far less than what I would call a "good practice". That's the reason I DO update all my software, but I do it "manually". I never suggested "not upgrading" or not updating, but rather recommended what I do myself. I have always had a serious problem with people who tell me to do something they would never consider doing, so I don't make a habit of it myself. Yesterday alone I updated AIR and Flash Player on four systems... manually.
I doubt I'll be able to restore your trust in Adobe. ONLY YOU can do that.  As to your complaint, you originally indicated that said behavior was "illegal" and I believe I did a pretty darn good job of explaining why it isn't, because you click the "update" button, regardless of the reason, and your doing so (again, regardless of the reason) implies (if not proves), consent on your part. That's a legal point, even though it doesn't address trust or ethics at all.
When I was at Intuit, we reviewed two separate lawsuits during training on EULA compliance, one was a "Class action" filed by a state Attorney General, alleging that Intuit had installed what amounted to a "rootkit" (Google C-Dilla for more info) on potentially millions of systems without user consent, for the implementation of "anti-piracy" software in TurboTax in 2002. I went to work there in 2003 and I personally issued more than 300 replacement CD-Rs (along with apology letters) that didn't have the C-Dilla on them.
While the court ruled that the software itself caused many problems for the people who were involved in the suit, and that Intuit was liable for damages related to the repair or replacement of affected systems, the ruling magistrate was VERY CLEAR in pointing out that in installing the original software, and "accepting the end user licesne agreement", whether they actually read the whole thing (or any of it at all) beforehand, indicated their consent to install any and all software associated with such agreement. Therefore, the liability was severely limited, and NO puntiive damages could be applied. Several hundred people got free repairs and a few even got new computers, but Intuit made the decision not to use C-Dilla afterward; it was never ordered by the court.
TurboTax is paid software, and Flash Player is free, and C-Dilla was proven to be far more destructive than McAfee, Norton or Google bundled software (it rendered many systems useless), but the principle established by the court was that no one is forced to use TurboTax, and therefore not all of the liability could fall on the developer. Similarly, no one is forced to use Flash Player, or Adobe Reader. That hardly justifies installing third party apps in an update, with no opt out, but it still requires a user initiation to install a "bundled" update, and there ARE options to avoid the bundled software, which are posted in these forums DOZENS of times daily.
As I pointed out, I know of at least one detailed report that was submitted regarding this. It was my intention in reporting it, that someone would make changes that allow users to opt out of unwanted installs when all they're trying to do is update software they see as necessary to get full use and/or enjoyment out of their personal or work computer. Obviously that hasn't happened. I'm not endorsing the practice, or making excuses for it. I already made my position clear on "unwanted" software.
However, I also pointed out that the practice of "bundling software" is industry wide and it ISN'T going to end anytime in the foreseeable future, hence the links I provided and the advice to manually update. Believe me, I fully understand your frustration and I'm on your side. I have to be realistic, though. I have systems with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1. One of the Win 8 systems is my laptop I use when meeting with clients. I can't afford it to be down because of an anti-virus conflict, and I refuse to use Google Chrome on it because of the massive resource consumption of Google's excuse for a browser. But I've had to make changes in the way I do things to avoid it, because I'm not going to force a company the size of Adobe to change (as my unheeded report has proven).
I'm a freelance web designer, not an employee here. Thanks to the U.S. economy, I have a lot of time to help people out here, so I do. I'm an end user like you, only I have several years of software development and troubleshooting experience. I don't particularly enjoy answering the "why did they install (insert bundled software name here) on my system?" questions. Usually there's no convincing the original poster and subsequent posters that there IS a way around it. Most of them want their computers and ALL software companies to do everything for them, and do it without ever inconveniencing them with knowing it was done, and THEN they complain when something IS installed without their explicit approval. That's a hard case to argue.
Maybe (I'm not holding my breath) enough complaints like yours will eventually persuade Adobe to NOT install bundled apps with updates, and no way to say no to it. Meantime, I do things the long way because I have to, to keep my systems running like I want them
