Flash replaces Swing?

I recently downloaded an evaluation version of jFlash from sesma.com and it seems that Flash makes sense as an alternative for building impressive front end GUI's. Although It took me a while to get up to speed, in the end I could control Flash movies as Java objects. Pretty impresive. What do you guys think?

If you think about it, the problem with swing is that developers and graphics artists need to be the same person in order to get the job done. When I write swing code, it might work like a jet engine, but it looks like I just took a dump on the screen. I guess you need to be really good a writing a lot of code to make swing look good (too much work -for me at least). Products like jFlash, would problably allow Java developers to work on the stuff that makes the application solid, and in parallel Flash developers can write flash adhereing to whatever the Java developer specs out. And in the end, you end up with a solid app, and a beautiful front end.

  • Integrating flash with swings

    Hi,
Im looking to integrate flash with swings. This is for a desktop application, not a web based application. I was looking for some help on this, if someone could help me with it.
    Regards,
    Ghost Rider

Flash is proprietary technology and they don't play nice with others. Same reason why you can't load an MSWord doc in a Java GUI. If Flash WAS an open technology, then perhaps someone would/could build a plugin or some way to do it.

Is there any way that you can import and use flash in swing?

I am still trying but if you have Flash 5.0 you will get

Any way try to get Activex control or Flash Player version 5.0 with

  • Embedding Flash in Swing

    Hi Flash community
I am researching on having the Flash application embedded in

An approach seems to have the Http client view to load the

How extensive is the integration forFlex to call Java

  • LED flash replacement. Is it possible?

    Hi.
Does anyone know is it possible to replace only LED flash but not the whole camera module in case of faulty flash?
I've tried to search for different repair parts for iPhone 4 and found nothing about separate part for LED flash.
    Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, the camera & LED are one part:

  • Learning  Flash  AND swing

    hi.....do u think Flash > Applet AND VB.NET> Swing ?
I have little knowledge on Applet AND Swing......but I think Flash and VB.Net has exceeded and captured the market of Applet and Swing . Now a days most sites are using Flash for interactivity and VB for interface. do u think learning Flash and VB.NET would be worthy ? or should i update my knowledge on Applet and Swing ? One more bad thing regarding swing is , the code becomes bulky to get a simple interface .
i have one more doubt,......suppose i made a interface in VB.NET ( front end ) , can i run java code in back end ?
plz let me know what should i emphasis ?
    thanks

It all depends on your current situation. Are you employed in IT? If so, what technologies is your employer using now. What technologies do they see themselves using next year? In 5 years?
What skills do you have now? Are you proficient in any technologies? Think about whether you want to be a jack-of-all-trades or very proficient in a smaller number of technologies. Are your current skills saleable to an employer? Should you improve your current skills or start learning new skills?
Hey, for a forum answer, I've certainly typed a lot of question marks!

  • Adobe Flash replacement?

Is there an app or something that replaces Adobe Flash for the IPad?

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
Apps that can display some Flash from the Web:
    Puffin
    SkyFire
    Photon Flash
    Browse2Go
    iSwifter
Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

How can I embed a flash video in swing panel?

  • What are you using as a Flash replacement for 64-bit machines?

    Hi,
I was reading about the vulnerabilities in Adobe's Flash and decided to remove the offending package. I opened Chromium to make sure my Flash still worked, as I understood that Chromium implemented another method for rendering Flash stuff. I was wrong. For example, YouTube tells me that I need Flash 10 or higher. I tried to re-install the flashplugin package, but it is no longer in the repos.
I can live without Flash content, but it's nice to have.
So the question is, what are you using instead, that can be installed from the main repos?
    Many thanks,
    Chris.

I have installed both lightspark 0.4.3 and gnash 0.8.8, since lightspark should be able to 'fall back to gnash for older videos' (see changelog of lightspark).
I have tried some flash-websites in firefox and all of them seem to use gnash and there was 1 website that didn't load the content (www.deredactie.be - our national tvstation). So, I'm under the impression that lightspark is not used by firefox.
Has anyone found out how to do this?
Secondly, gnash should be able to use VA-API (hardware acceleration). Is it just a question to install libva and let gnash do the rest, or does one have to recompile gnash to build the support in?
    Zl.
PS: to whoever thinks flashplugin is the 'real flash': gnash has beaten it in terms of providing hardware acceleration. hooray for opensource!

  • Flash SWF file within Swing JFrame

I was wondering whether its possible to open a Flash swf file within a JFrame
I am looking for a solution similar to the usage of Flash Activex control in .NET
    thanks in advance
    Vikas

I have read the forum link and other such entries in this forum. I have found the following:
    1.) JFlash - a java based flash player. https://jflash.dev.java.net/
Could'nt find the app or the official site
    2.) a few projects on sourceforge.org :
java flash bridge where you embed the flash inside an Integrated Browser Component
    3.) SWT Flash integration.
I do not find any of these solutions satisfactory.except the SWT/Flash integration which I havent tried.
My question is that isnt there an easier and simpler way to :
Embed Flash into Swing app where actionscript and java can communicate.
I am aware of Remoting and web services. But It is a desktop app I am talking about.
    Can anyone suggest anything?

  • Swing and Flash SWF objects

Is there a way to embed Flash files on a Swing application?
What I want to do is grab locations of images through the java application and pass it to an SWF file to display an animation.
If embedding flash in Swing isn't possible, what other options are there in Swing for animation?
    Thanks

there is one more way to embed flash swf file in swings . ie thru JDIC .
java desktop integration compnentsMy current favourite way is thru the DJNativeSwing project. I realised it provides a slightly better renderering of components than JDIC, especially for the embedded IExplorer on Windows platforms, and it also has some extra cool features that one can use out of the box, like mixing heavyweight and lightweight containers. And Swing borders even work great.

  • Are there any browsers for Mac other than Safari and Google Chrome that are better with adobe flash for my Macbook 2009?

On Safari Adobe Flash freezes at times on popular Flash chatroom I visit and on Google Chrome when I try to type the typing is laggy delayed. Adobe Flash needs to be fixed in Safari and possibly other Browsers, and Google Chromes html5 or whatever flash replacement their browser uses ***** on older hardware.

Go for Safari always, you will have more advantages than any other browser. You can safely install the Adobe Flash pluguin, it will install as pref pane in your System Preferences. From there you can limit its access, block sites for storing info in your mac.
Under the advanced tab of the Flash Player in System Preferences, check “Notify me to install updates”, so you are always up to date (feel free to check out any update directly form the Adobe website to be safe).
Steve does't want to allow Flash for iOS due to security issues (long story). But it's OK for mac, if you keep an eye on it.
Google's Chrome its decent, but you know, it's Google. I will prefer to take the advantage of the Apple's ecosystem, like syncing all Safari content and passwords with iCloud, to keep using it in your iOS devices. You can have an open page in your mac, and go to your iPad and continue with the same page.
Also you can find some useful Safari extensions that will trick the websites to load an HTML5 version of the video instead of flash (like if you were on an iPad).

  • Printable and Graphics in JavaFX - future strategy?

    Hi all,
I need JavaFX for a business application that requires reporting, printing and also a print preview. What would be the best approach for creating complex layouts (text, tables, graphics, images, graphs, various fonts etc.), having the application display a (WYSIWYG!-)print preview and printing them, just as displayed in the preview?
In Swing, I resort to the Printable/Pageable API and the Graphics/Graphics2D classes - all AWT classes. As far as I can see, JavaFX is not related to AWT in any way. So, can anyone point out how to implement such requirements using JavaFX for the UI - and for createing the print layout?
    Some details on my motivation:
    1) The API of JavaFX would be great for implementing complex layouts.
    2) Using two different graphics APIs & layers (JavaFX + AWT) does not seem to make sense to me. And, AFAIK JavaFX is not only meant to replace Swing, but likewise AWT.
    3) The most important: Printing support is a "must-have", maybe even mission critical.
Recently, I talked about JavaFX with decision makers at a development company. They make several business applications, built on Java, with several thousands of customers. They asked repeatedly for printing support. They said, customers keep asking how to print all those nice diagrams. They just want to print what the see. The want it, just like they want to print web pages from a browser. And, in a browser, they can - and in JavaFX they cannot (so it seems). At present, that makes JavaFX a difficult topic for decision makers ... :-(
I would be very glad about opinions, hints and - if possible - some info concerning printing from the JavaFX team :-)
    Best regards,
    R. Rohm

the viewer components are Swing components, which would require the application to be a swing application (since I cannot embed a Swing component in a JavaFX app.) - correct?I used a Swing pdf viewer in a JavaFX application.
When I wanted to display a pdf, I just invoked the main method on the Swing pdf viewer which created a Swing JFrame and it all seemed to just work. Of course, it isn't an officially supported integration point. As long as the Swing portions of the app are being rendered in their own JFrame rather than a JavaFX managed Stage and you are careful about any threading callback issues, then displaying a Swing based report from a JavaFX app seems like it should be pretty straight-forward and a pretty quick and low-risk solution.
