Flash + Safari + Snow Leopard

I just noticed that Adobe Flash MAC 10,0,32,18 under Safari in Snow Leopard results in Safari locking up when trying to play a Flash video.
Does not affect Firefox 3.5.2 on the same machine.
This issue is present on two machines that I have running Snow Leopard, one iMac and one MacBook Pro.

It appears to be pretty flaky. Sometimes I can view a flash movie in either browser, but most of the time, if I try to go to Youtube or espn.com with some sort of embedded flash, the browser hangs and starts beachballing.

  • Safari & Snow Leopard: Change to 32 Bit or Rosetta

For those who are having problems with Safari & Snow Leopard, you have Agile Software (Maker of Password, which I highly recommend....) to thank for the following:
    http://support.agilewebsolutions.com/showthread.php?t=16716
Note: If you do not get the 32 bit option, click on the Rosetta. My Safari was not working. Totally busted. Now it's a whizzing speed demon.
    Hope this helps you.
To all those who spent time answering my queries, my deep appreciation. Thank you.

    Hello:
As an observation, if you were not using the third-party software you would not have had the problem.
I am not being critical, but the title of your thread is not descriptive. 32 bit and Rosetta have nothing to do with Safari 4.0.3.

  • CS5 Select Tool crash Flash on Snow Leopard

I can't select anything in a tool windows. With one fla opened, i select "ESSENTIAL" in workspace, the interface, turn on, but when i select a draw tool orchange any preference on Flash CS5 Trial on Snow Leopard, the flash allways crash and close without message. The image show the tools "closed" and the erro in Apple System.
    Anyone could help me?

    Hi,
If you create a new user account on that machine and login as that user, does Flash still crash?  A new user would have different preferences, fonts, etc. which could help narrow down the cause of the crash.
    Thanks,

  • Flash CS5, Snow Leopard and Font Problems

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and might have a quick fix for it:
I have a couple of Flash projects that were originally built in CS3.  Last year I upgraded them to CS5 without trouble.  Recently I have upgraded my Macs to Snow Leopard, and when I open both of these FLA files in CS5 on Snow Leopard, some of the fonts are insanely distorted.
    Any ideas?

I had the same issue and discovered a quick work around (not great for the long term) that does not require OS downgrade.
    The first time Flash launches:
    1. create a new fla
    2. create a text box with the desired font that produces the issue
    3. type out every character (lower and UPPER case) include all punctuation and numbers
    4. Open any file that uses the font and you should be good to go
    Hope that helps.

  • Help: Slow Flash performance (Snow Leopard)

    Dear Gurus,
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my MacBook Pro's performance playing FLASH videos is gone. Jerky, choppy videos are the norm now. Full screen mode is out of the question. YouTube is unwatchable...
I have tried every sugestion I have found on the net but the problem still persists. I did a clean install of the Snow Leopard and the problem is there.
    How do I fix this???

Very late to this, but what is the capacity of your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? A too-full hard drive can cause deteriorating performance.
Also, have you maximized the RAM? How much RAM is installed?
Sometimes it can be your internet service provider at fault. What speed is your connection?
See, when somebody says, "I've tried every suggestion," unless you enumerate exactly what you have tried, it's hard for us to tell what you haven't tried (and what may actually help).

  • Gift BUG on Safari Snow Leopard !

  • Safari snow leopard

should i download safari 4 snow leopard if im running safari tiger 10.4.11

If you want the newest version of Safari for your OS, click here, push the Safari 4.0.4 for Tiger radio button and download the file. The Leopard and Snow Leopard versions of it won't install on your OS.
The Software Update pane of System Preferences will show you the correct updater.

  • Any update for safari snow leopard 10.6.8 ?

safari need to be updated in the version of 10.6.8. where miliions of users still use this version of osx believing this version is the best yet.
In the name of millions of Apple's customers we ask sarafi to be updated.

    H Adam ..
Apple will never update Safari on OS X v10.6.8  >    Apple Kills Snow Leopard: OS X 10.6 No Longer Receives Security Updates
OS X Snow Leopard is very outdated OS X. It cannot meet today's necessary security requirements.
Unless you use Rosetta for PowerPC apps, your Mac may be able to upgrade to v10.10 Yosemite.
Read here >  Apple - OS X Yosemite - How to Upgrade
    That would install Safari 8.

  • Downloading Quicktime files in Safari - Snow Leopard.

I seem to be having trouble downloading a quicktime file from my University website since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I found some posts on other sites that say you can get the URL from Safari's activity window and paste it into the 'open URL' box in Quicktime 7 - or even just double click the URL in the activity list. These seem to work ok; however, the Quicktime file I'm trying to access seems to be embedded in the University System; I know they use Java, so I'm presuming its embedded in a Java applet. This means that the URL of the file is not displayed in Safari's activity window and is not part of the HTML source code. This, combined with the lack of the old Quicktime 7 Pro menu tab on the window, mean I can't download the file.
Does anyone know if there's a way around this? It would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Awesome, Limnos! That's done the trick; thanks very much for your advice.

  • Radio Buttons MIssing in Safari/Snow Leopard

I've come across a number of pages where radio buttons are simply missing... opened it in Firefox to double check and they are there. What's up with that?

same issue here... Definitely Safari on Snow only issue. I'm running 10.6.1 (32 Bit Mode, Universal Access = Off). Have cross tested with Safari 4.0.3 on winXP and Firefox 3 on 10.6.1 (both work fine)
Issue seen with sites.google.com and http://discussions.apple.com/editwatches!default.jspa - radio buttons don't render.
Seems to be specific use of radios. On a given page some display and others don't - the broken ones all appear to be in tages that include jscript use.
    E.g. this works:
    <label>
    <input id="pageLocTopLevelPath" name="pageLoc" type="radio" value="" checked="true" />
Put page at the top level
    </label>
    this doesn't:
    Select a template to use
    <input type="radio" name="pagetype" checked="true" id="text" /><label for="text">Web Page</label>
    <input type="radio" name="pagetype" id="dashboard" /><label for="dashboard">Dashboard</label>
    <input type="radio" name="pagetype" id="announcements" /><label for="announcements">Announcements</label>
    <input type="radio" name="pagetype" id="filecabinet" /><label for="filecabinet">File Cabinet</label>
    <input type="radio" name="pagetype" id="list" /><label for="list">List</label>
    <input type="radio" name="pagetype" id="startpage" /><label for="startpage">Start Page</label>

  • Safari (Snow Leopard) will not link to website (pdf) files from within other pdf files

Meeting agendas (in pdf format) have 'web links' to other pdf files, but Safari says not enough info in the webaddress.  But it works O.K. in Windows Explorer.

    Open browser preferences
ex Safari>Preferences>Extentions   and un-enable any ext that mabe interferring , ex divX
or open Help> installed Plug-ins and remove Adobe Acrobat.
    if still a problem
    Quit Safari.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
A Finder window will open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open.
Launch Safari and test. Its settings will have reverted to what they were they first time you launched it. If it works as expected, recreate the settings and delete the item you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put the file you moved back where it was, overwriting the newer one created in its place.

  • Websites in safari snow leopard do not open fully; buttons not showing word

after installing SL, it seems like some browsers in safari will not open fully... i tried opening some websites eztv.it, where it used to be okay before the upgrade, but now, the "buttons" do not have anything on them... i tried to put safari on the 32-bit mode; i re-installed safari from the SL disc, but still nothing's happening... they all work fine in firefox...
i also did the upgrade on my husband's macbook white, and he does not seem to have the same problem... his safari is working fine..
    please help

    HI,
    Try Safari Maintenance
    Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Cant find fresh Safari download for Snow Leopard

I know this should be easy, but my old Safari got deleted and I wanted to download and install the latest version for Snow Leopard. I downloaded the link on the front page of the downloads page and it doesn't work at all. It opens a page and does nothing. I have to force quit to stop Safari.
Where can I find Safari 4? I would then download the update for Safari Snow Leopard, correct?

    HI,
I downloaded the link on the front page of the downloads page and it doesn't work at all. It opens a page and does nothing. I have to force quit to stop Safari.
Safari relies on the OS X framework called WebKit so it's not exactly an application that runs on it's own so just downloading Safari from the Apple site doesn't do the job.
*Reinstall Safari from your Snow Leoaprd disc or your Mac install disc.*
Insert the Snow Leopard install disk. Open the Optional Installs folder, then open Optional Installs.mpkg
An Installer will start... click Continue. When you get to the Installation Type in the window on the right you will see: Applications. Click the Disclosure triangle so it faces down. Select the apps you want to install and click Continue.
When you are finished installing Safari, go to the Apple Menu and click Software Updates. That will bring your new Safari up to date.
    Then repair disk permissions...

  • Upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6 has downgraded networking speed

I have 3 computers on my 100% wired Gigabit network at home. All 3 computers are connected to the same router.
1 is a linux machine, 1 is a Macbook (C2D 2.4GHz 4MB RAM) running Leopard 10.5.8, and 1 is my iMac (C2D 2.4GHz 4MB RAM) running Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Both iMac and Macbook have identical specs and RAM, only difference is one is running 10.5.8 and one is running 10.6.1.
Prior to upgrading my iMac to SL, I'd consistently get between 10-20Mbps download result using dslreport.com speedtests. I'm on Comcast. Now after upgrading to SL on the iMac, I can only achieve around 2.5Mbps maximum speed test results. I performed this test 5x over several days to make sure there wasn't some coincidental anomaly. As a test I performed the same speed test on the Macbook and it indeed hit above 15Mbps speed result consistently 5x in a row and over several days. My linux machine also achieves the same 15+Mbps speed result.
I've tried tweaking the iMac's SL network settings, but nothing helps. What has happened in SL to degrade network throughput? I can clearly and consistently reproduce this issue.

Aha! I've found the problem. Its the Flash 8 speed test that is the problem on SL. When performing the same speed test using the Java speed test, I achieve the 15+Mbps download speeds.
    Flash 8 speedtest
    Sun Java plugin speedtest
I've done the test 5 times in a row and I get the same results form each respective speedtest type.
So the problem is what is wrong with Flash on Snow Leopard?

  • Flash, Adobe Air, Time Machine, Safari not  working with Snow Leopard

Really need some help with this.
Did an archive and install of Leopard then installed Snow Leopard. No problems yet.
90% of Video sites would not work. Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash. Uninstalled ShockWave, could not reinstall with 10.6.1.
Attempt to install adobe air, received this message: "couldn't write the application to hard drive - please verify and try again." performed verify disk, disk permissions, repair permissions all ok.
Attempted to install Air again, same message.
Tried to use Time Machine to open Safari from a week ago, received message: I did not have permission.
Using Macbook Pro, 2g memory, 80g hd, with 42g free.
    Backed up on ext. HD,
Oh, one more, getting a lot of spinning wheels when using Safari that causes a lockup and hard re-start.
I have an expensive piece of software that uses adobe air and I create videos for my business and I'm not able to do so now.
Can anyone give me any ideas what I can do.
    Thanks,
    Z

After a couple of days of problems with Snow Leopard and flash, safari etc... I figured out the problem is with my account.
I created a new admin account and everything seems to be working. Well almost.
a couple of things I've noticed are right clicking on dock icons does nothing, no option to quit or keep in dock.
Apple Techs', had me change my account months ago to fix a problem with safari crashing. It didn't really work and more problems resulted.
*So now my big question is: How do I move need items over to the new account.* I don't want to move everything over as I might bring what caused the problem in the first place.
What I need are several apps,(like ilife, iwork, firefox, devonthink, 1password etc.) downloads, desktop, docs, files, and book marks.
*What is the best way for me to do this?* Is there anything I need to do re: Snow Leopard on the new account?
I feel like I have a new and functioning Mac again just around the corner.
    Looking for your help, thanks,
    Z
