Flash (Shockwave) keeps crashing in both Chrome and IE

Hi,
I am having problems with Shockwave "crashing". Mainly what happens is when I try to view a video or play a game on Facebook, Google Chrome says that the plugin has stopped responding and then my browser freezes up.
I have tried running things in IE as well and the same thing happens.
I have gone to the link provided in other threads to unenable hardware acceleration, but that doesn't seem to have helped.
I am running Windows 7.
Thanks!

Okay.  Please go to chrome://crashes and file bugs for the first couple.  This will transmit all of the relevant technical details to Google.
If you can give me the resulting bug numbers, I'd be happy to follow up with Google on them.

  • Adobe Flash Player keeps crashing in Google Chrome

I am using Google Chrome and every time I open the browser Adobe Flash Player keeps crashing.  I have Windows 7.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Hello,
Just chiming in to say that I am experiencing the same issues.
    using Win 7, Firefox 19.0, Flash 11.6.602.168
    Tried the DRM fix,
Tried uninstalling Firefox and Flash, restarting Win 7, reinstalling Firefox and Flash
Tried reinstalling display and my NVidia drivers.
Still getting "Sorry we were unable to stream this video" message.
    Also having problems on Chrome.
Some troubleshooting threads suggest to go to chrome://plugins and disable the chrome flash player.
When i disable the chrome flash player and try to play an amazon instant video, I get the "Sorry we were unable to stream this video" message.
When i disable the system flash player and try to play an amazon instant video, the video plays but 'stutters.'  The audio is fine, but the video alternately pauses and plays for a second or two over and over again.
AIV works just fine on my iPad.
For everyone viewing, please take 30 secs to create an account and let Adobe know that their product is causing problems for your Amazon service.
This needs to get fixed asap!
    Thanks
    V.

  • Shockwave keeps crashing in Google Chrome

This has happened on and off for me for the past two years. But it's probably happened a few hundred times, sometimes more than a dozen times in a day. It occurs at random times. Sometimes I can view a page, read an article but I don't close the tab...an hour later, I'll get a notice that Shockwave has crashed even though there was no problem before.
I've updated Shockwave, no change. I'm told that Google Chrome automatically updates Google Chrome but obviously there is a glitch there.
I think it's an issue with Google Chrome but their Help pages say to come HERE for help. Unfortunately, I've found nothing useful here except for people reporting the same problem and no answers.
Details: I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1; 64-bit operating system; Google Chrome Version 24.0.1312.57; Flash Player Version 11.6.602.167.

  • My flash player keeps crashing in only firefox and not in Chrome google

I have reset firefox and unistalling and reinstalling and checked the updates but nothing works. I will be using chrome google from now as you don't care so much for the community as you say you do.

A known issue with FlashPlayer on some older Macs may well be to blame. If that is the case you need to downgrade to version 12 until Adobe release a fix.
This Adobe thread explains the situation

  • Flash player keeps crashing (Primarily in Chrome)

I've been having problems with my flash player for a while now and can't work out what's wrong. It will crash on pretty much all videos in chrome (fb and youtube primarily), it crashes the spotify desktop app and it crashes with VLC as well. The frequency of these crashes can be up to 10-20 times an hour and has been getting worse so its pretty unusable but once a video starts I have no problems unless I pause it and then it can crash on the restart. Usually I will get a error message saying it has crashed with an option a little later to reload it which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I have lost track of all the things I've tried but they have ranged from disabling hardware acceleration, to re-installing everything related to flash, to disabling one of the flash plugins to disabling all the other chrome plugins. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Windows 8.1
    Google Chrome 39.0.2171.95 m
    Shockwave Flash 16,0,0,235

First, you should verify that those videos are Flash.  Right-click on one, and it will say About Flash Player if it's Flash.  If you see Inspect Element or something, it's HTML5 video.
If it *is* Flash, can you give me some more information about the make and model of your machine?

  • Motion 3.0.2 Keep crashing on Macbook Pro and Mac Pro without any reasons.

We have a Mac Pro with FCS 2 and I have a Macbook Pro with FCS 2 installed too.
Motion 3.0.2 keep crashing on both machine, and the frequency of crashing in the Macbook Pro is much higher and unpredictable.
I have done a clean installation of OSX Leopard and FCS 2 on both machine and all the software on both machine have been updated to the latest version.
I have Macbook Pro with 4GB of RAM and both machine are working in PAL SD format.
I have not done anything complicate on both machine. I just try to do some vortex behavior, some simple particle test with rate set to 10-20.
Oh! Both of them crashes too even when I using the templates come with the system, and the MBP crashes much more than the Mac Pro, but again both crashes to a frequency unacceptable to be used as a production machine.
Any hints and help will be very appreciated.

  • Flash with both Chrome and IE?

I use both Chrome and IE.  It appears that each requires a different version of Flash, but can only install one version.  How can I get Flash to work with both?

Chrome comes with Flash Player preinstalled; you don't have to worry about that.
Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 also comes with Flash Player preinstalled.
All other Internet Explorer versions need to install the Flash Player ActiveX.
Other browsers like Firefox need to install the Flash Player plugin.
What exactly is the problem you are having?

  • Adobe shockwave keeps crashing

I downloaded the new Flash player and i keep getting a message saying the add on shockwave is not responding and then it would close all my explorer windows.  I recently switched to Google Chrome for a browser and it still crashes but doesn't close my browser.  But what is the difference between Flash Player and Shockwave player?  It keeps crashing all the time and i can't find it in my programs.  Are they one and the same or can i get rid of it, its really p****ing me off .   Any help would be much appreciated.  Lorikabcbar

Flash Player is a plugin/ActiveX control that plays back SWF files created with Flash, Flex or any number of other products that create SWF.
Shockwave Player plays back content created with Adobe Director.
What specific pages/sites are crashing?  That should help determine which player it is.

  • My adobe flash player keeps crashing. Why?

I use Mozilla Firefox exclusively as my browser. When I am connected to Facebook and playing their casino games, the Adobe Flash player keeps randomly crashing. When it crashes, it locks up the computer and I have to shut down and reopen the browser. Recently, an information box has been opening up in the upper left corner of the screen called the Adobe Flash Player action box or something like that. The context is filled with lots of computer jargon I don't understand. At the bottom of the box there are 2 options to pick from, either dismiss or continue. Most of the time the screen freezes up before I've had the chance to pick one. After I go to the Windows task manager and shut down the boxes that were open, I get the normal gray "Adobe Flash Player has crashed" screen. The really odd thing is that there is no prompt allowing me to send a crash report to Mozilla. I have uninstalled and completely reinstalled the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. Just in case these might be a problem, I have the following 3 "add-ons" loaded in to the browser: Quick Time Plug-in 7.7.6 7.7.6.0, Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.305, and Shockwave for Director 12.1.7.157. As well, in case they might be the problem, I have the following 2 programs installed into my computer are: Adobe Flash Player 16 NPAPI and Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1. FYI: I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit. Hopefully I have given you enough information to make an assessment. If you need anything from me, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again
The message, "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed," is shown when the Flash plugin stops working unexpectedly. Reloading the page will often get the video, game or animation to play again.
If the Flash plugin continues to crash, updating to the latest version of Flash should fix the issue. This article explains how to update Flash and other possible solutions.
    Plugin crash notification Fx21
    Update Flash
The latest version of the Flash plugin should perform better and crash less often. To check if Flash is up to date, visit Mozilla's Plugin Check page. If it says that Flash needs to be updated, install the latest version manually using the steps below.
Go to Adobe's Flash Player download page and download the Flash installer.
Caution: Adobe's download page may include a checkbox for optional software (such as Google Chrome or McAfee Security Scan) that is selected by default. If you do not clear the checkbox before downloading, that software will be installed on your computer when you open the Flash installer.
When the download has finished, close Firefox.
Click the menu button New Fx Menu and then click Exit Close 29
Open the Flash installer file you downloaded and follow the instructions.
Note: If you are having problems with the Flash installer from Adobe's download page, you can use this Flash Player installer link to directly download the full installer.
    Disable hardware acceleration in Flash
Many Flash problems can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings (Adobe's Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has details). To disable hardware acceleration in Flash:
Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page, then click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.
Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
    fpSettings1.PNG
Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    Restart Firefox.
Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems
The Adobe Flash Player browser plugin lets you view video and animated content in Firefox. This article has information about testing, updating, uninstalling and troubleshooting the Adobe Flash plugin.
Note: The Firefox Software Update feature does not update installed plugins. See the Adobe Security bulletins and advisories page for information about security and stability issues affecting Adobe Flash Player and other Adobe products.
    Testing Flash
Visit Adobe's Test Page to see if the Flash plugin is installed and working properly. If it tells you that Flash is not installed, follow the instructions in the Updating Flash section below to install the Flash plugin.
    Updating Flash
The Flash plugin automatically updates itself by default. If Mozilla's Plugin Check page says that Flash is outdated and you don't want to wait for the automatic update, you can update Flash manually by downloading and installing the latest version from Adobe.
    Uninstalling Flash
For instructions on uninstalling Flash, see Adobe's help page, Uninstall Flash Player - Windows
Note: Running Adobe's uninstaller will remove Flash from all browsers where it is not built-in, including Internet Explorer. You will be prompted to reinstall Flash when you visit a page that requires it, such as Adobe's Test Page.
    Troubleshooting
    Flash plugin not working
If Adobe's Test Page does not show that Flash is working even though you have installed the latest version, your Flash plugin may be disabled. To make sure that Flash is enabled,
Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Plugins panel.
If the Flash plugin is disabled, select Always Activate in its drop-down menu.
Flash works in Internet Explorer or Chrome but not in Firefox
There are three different types of Flash Players: an ActiveX version for Internet Explorer, a Chrome version built-in the browser and a plugin version for Firefox and some other browsers. If you want Flash to work in Firefox you must install the plugin version, as explained above.
The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed
If you see this message instead of Flash content, see Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again.
    Unresponsive plugin warning
Firefox will show you a warning dialog if the Flash plugin is taking longer then expected:
    warning-unresponsive-plugin
See the article Warning Unresponsive plugin - What it means and how to fix it for solutions and workarounds.
Cannot view full screen Flash videos
See Flash videos won't play full screen.
Playing Flash videos makes Firefox hang
If Firefox stops responding or if the Flash plugin hangs or stops working when playing Flash videos or games, try these solutions:
Pause or stop Flash in other tabs. You may need to close those tabs.
Update Flash. See the Updating Flash section above for instructions.
Disable hardware acceleration in Flash using these steps:
Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page, then click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.
Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
    fpSettings1.PNG
Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    Restart Firefox.
Update your graphics drivers. See Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL for details.
    Other Flash problems and solutions
Your Flash issue could be caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration in Firefox. See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems to narrow down the cause.
Other solutions for general audio and video problems are listed in the Fix common audio and video issues article.
If Flash content does not work, acts strangely, causes errors, or if you see a notice that you need to update Flash (for instance, at Mozilla's Plugin Check) even after installing the latest Flash version, uninstall and reinstall Flash.

Next, run the Flash Player ActiveX installer, and then the Flash Player (other browsers) Installer.
Lastly, see:Enabling Flash Player in Internet Explorer  and: ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer  to make 100% sure that Flash Player is enabled and NOT being blocked by ActiveX controls.
