Flash sound garbled

OS is Windows 7 64-bit. Both sound drives are updated; there are no other obvious problems. All streaming video (or audio) sounds are garbled. This began a few days ago. The sounds are like alien/electronic sounds. Windows Media player is OK; Flash is current (I just checked on the Adobe site).
I deleted the cache folders (at %appdata%\Adobe and \Macromedia); no change. Rebooted; no change.
HOWEVER: This is limited to Chrome. Just tried it with IE and the sound's fine. I guess I should ask this on a Chrome forum. (They suggest asking on a Flash forum; this was addressed a while ago and there is a link:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4505324#4505324
HOWEVER, this is from last year)
The sound issue is entirely limited to Chrome and Flash.
RON

For some strange reason my problem went away tonight. I tried all of the videos that didn't work yesterday and they all work. Since I don't spend much time on Youtube I assumed it was something I did when I re-installed the OS but I guess I am wrong. If the problem re-occurs I will post about it but for the mean time it seems like my problem is solved.
Thanks for the help.

    Question
Flash files played in the the newest version of the Flash
Player sound garbled or have a high-pitched "chipmunk" sound to
    them.
    Answer
The latest release of the Flash Player (v9.0.115.0 released
on 12/03/07)) causes audio to sound garbled and/or high pitched
like a chipmunk. Our development team is looking into this issue
and working to find a fix.
To avoid this problem, you can roll back your Flash Player to
a previous release. If you have problems installing an older
release of the Flash Player please review this article and contact
    Adobe for further support.
At this time, the problem is limited only to SWF files
produced with the MP3 audio codec. As a workaround, you can produce
your SWF files with the PCM audio codec or use the FLV format
    instead of SWF.

Safe versions security restrictions when installing Flash
    Player
    Issue
If you previously installed a later version of Flash Player
for Internet Explorer, you may be prevented from installing an
earlier version. For example, if you installed Flash Player
9.0.47.0 and attempted to install version 9.0.45.0 the installation
    would fail.
    Reason
This issue is due to registry key settings applied by the
Flash Player security model. The restriction is to prevent users
from downgrading Flash Player minor versions. The minor version of
Flash Player is the third set of numbers in the version name. For
example, the minor version for Flash Player 9.0.47.0 would be 47.
If Flash Player 9.0.47.0 was installed and you attempted to install
9.0.45.0 (minor version 45), the installation would fail.
    Solution
To resolve this, download the uninstaller for Flash Player
from "How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX
    control" (TechNote tn_14157).
    Select Start.
    Select Run.
    Type cmd
In the command window, type the following:
    uninstall_flash_player.exe /clean
This will remove all entries in the system registry and
    resolve this issue.
Note: The uninstall_flash_player.exe file must be saved to
the same directory that the command window is in, for example C:\.

    Hi,
I doubt it's Safari that's changing the settings:
    Why does this happen?
Some third-party audio applications may change your computer's audio output setting. In fact, if you use the third-party application again after applying the above solution, the issue might occur again.
No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4)

Problem with microphone testing Skype.  When testing the sound and play back it sounds garbled.

    Hello,
    Thanks for your post!
What computer model do you have? Are you using the internal MIC or any external one? Have you checked the volume of that mic and try to decrease it? Also low down the volume from your speakers or from your default playback device.
What operating system do you have?
Please provide this additional information to understand more your setup and if the cause of it is settings related.
By the way, did it worked before? If its the first time, you can also try to update the sound driver or even remove it from device manager and having the device detected again, maybe in that way it will resolve the problem.

  • No Flash Sound on YouTube

    HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv9700
    Service Tag dv9910us
    Window 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
Get no Flash sound on YouTube or CNN.  Get good sound from YouTube videos saved to hard drive by Realplayer.   Then the saved YouTube video plays everywhere: Windows Media Player, VLC and Realplayer.  I recall the YouTube sound disappeared in the last weekend of Nov 2011 when Flash was automatically updated.  At first it was intermittent and then silent forever.
So far.  No luck.   I deleted and reinstalled Adobe Flash.  Even tried the Flash Uninstall Utility.  Actually I deleted everything with Adobe listed on it vias Control Panel Uninstall.  I deleted the sound driver for the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 and reinstalled.  I even unpdated it.  I consecutively deleted and downloaded the latest versions of IE, FireFox & Chrome.  I tried Microsoft Fix-It.
In Device Manager, there are two yellow warnings.  NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller (Code 10) and USB Host Controller (Code 43).  I don't know if one of these can be the issue.
One weirdo.  Sound worked for 30 seconds one night the first week of March when my wife innocently started to watch YouTube.  When I realized it and called it to her attention, the sound disappeared.  Go figure!
I'm thinking of restoring Windows 7, but that will create a lot of work for me.
Any new information on a fix?
With so many complaints -- it seems -- everywhere, I'm surprised someone like Adobe has fixed the problem?
Naive question:  Are we locked into Adobe Flash Player for YouTube or CNN?
    Thanks.

  • Extract audio from .fls (Flash Sound Bundle File)

    Greetings!
I would like to ask if it's possible to unbundle a Flash
Sound Bundle file? I've downloaded FlashLiteBundler.exe to check if
it can also unbundle, but it could not. A client wants to reuse
their audio files from a previous project, but alas, they could
only give us files of .fls format.
Any ideas on how I can go about this?
    Peace!

    Hi kglad!
    Thanks for the reply. :)
    1) The sad part is that Flash Lite 1.1 Sound Bundler only
appears as a flat square with the words "Drop Sound Files Here." A
few audio files are supported, such as .mid and you just drag the
audio onto the square, until a window appears which says, "MIDI
file __.mid added, size ___ KB" There are no other controls there
except the Delete, Clear All and Save Bundle buttons.
    2) When I try dragging an existing .fls file (the one from
the client), it says "Unknown sound format, file not added."
    3) When I try dragging an .fls file which I made myself using
Flash Lite 1.1 Sound Bundler (FlashLiteBunder.exe), an "OK" message
box appears, which says "1 device sound found. MIDI (___KB)". Other
than that, I can't get the Sound Bundler to do anything else.
I was wondering whether there's another way to unbundle using
another Flash tool, or maybe the bundled file is in a known format
which I can unbundle with something else? When opened in a text
editor, the .fls files from the client begin with "FWS".
    Thanks.

  • Imported files sound "garbled" in Itunes, play fine in VLC

    Hey all,
I have 7000+ audio files on a Lacie Rugged External Hard Drive, dumped there as I am putting them on a new computer. When I import these files into Itunes, they either don't show up, or half of them have no ID3 tag, and these files sound "garbled"...not really sure how to describe the sound.
I can easily play these files with VLC. The files in question DO show up as MPEGs, half work half don't in itunes, but they all play (at least the tracks I randomly tested) in VLC. Has anyone run into this? Can anyone shed light on this issue?

Also...I'm running the latest edition of Itunes...

  • Recording sounds garbled on playback

I have a customer who is using QM to do their call recordings. Recordings are done at the desktop end, and transferred to the server nightly. The problem they are experiencing when the supervisor plays back a recording from the day before, about 1 in 10 recordings sound garbled. The problem with recording quality always happens after an internal transfer to another agent.
For instance, an external caller talking to agent1 will sound perfectly fine. But when agent1 puts the caller on hold, and speak to agent2, the recording of both agent1 and agent2 degrades (similar to stuttering). When agent1 resumes call with caller again, the stuttering continues, with audio from caller being heard with a few seconds delay in response to agent1.
They've had the QM installed abt 2-3 years ago, but issue only started happening 9 months ago. The issue is random, happens to some agents, and the time of recording is scattered throughout the day.
Their LAN is very straight-forward, with separate vlans for voice and data. No SPAN/RSPAN is used. Agents are connected to various floor switches, which connects back to the core switch where the QM server, UCCX, CUCM, etc are connected to. All agents use IP handsets 7941 which is daisy-chained to their computers.
Any ideas of where I can start looking into the issue?

    Hi Nisaar,
No, I haven't found the cause for this recording quality issue yet. The problem happens not just on call transfers, it sometimes happens on calls from an external number, or internal calls. The IP phone makes a copy of the RTP and sends it on to the PC which is daisy-chained. The issue also happens when playback is direct from the PC on the day of recording, prior to transfer to the server. Therefore I can't see what can affect the recording other than the phone switchport, the ethernet cable between phone and PC, and the PC itself.
I tried replicating the issue by making calls with high CPU usage and high network utilization, but was not able to replicate it. I've also checked phone settings, and it has audio packets marked with CS3 tags, and NIC has flow control enabled and priority&vlan enabled. I've gone through sqm logs and the recordings are marked for quality and archiving. I don't know where else to look.

  • Some songs in library and on itunes store sound garbled

    Hi,
When I play certain songs that I previously purchased through iTunes or when trying to listen to some song fragments in the iTunes store, they sound really garbled or don't play at all...other songs are fine.
I'm using iTunes 9 on a new computer with Vista...but had the same problems with iTunes 8.2.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I assume that the songs with this error have a "!" in front of them? If so, this usually happens when the iTunes music folder is moved or manipulated in some manner. Did you do anything with the iTunes music folder such as change its drive location?

  • Turn Flash Sound OFF in Javascript or HTML

My client would like the Flash banner I'm using to play audio
only on the home page. Can I shut the sound off in javascrpt or
html (in the object tag properties)? Client does not want a sound
toggle button - simply no sound.
I know I can create a second version of the Flash without
sound - but then users would have to load that file in addition to
the first Flash. I've searched without any luck. Any help would be
    much appreciated.

  • What it the problem with Flash sound?

I have had nothing but a nightmare with the use of voice with Flash. It sound fine when I record it. It sound fine when I'm working with it in Flash. As soon as I export it the sound winds up all squished. What am I doing wrong?

There are two places where compression can be applied to sounds that are imported into Flash.
    1. Select a sound in the Library and right click on it. Select the Properties... option. When that window opens you will see the options for setting the type and amount of compression for the individual sound file.
    2. In the Publish Settings window make sure that the "Override sound settings" option is NOT checked.
You should hear the sounds in the finished .swf the same as you do when playing the timeline.

  • Flash Sound Quality in CS5

I'm looking to upgrade from Flash 8 Professional to the newest version.  Has the quality of imported sounds improved beyond the tinny, in-the-submarine effect?
    Thanks,
    Mike

The way that Flash handles sound is one of the few things that has not changed in Flash in a long time. That being said, the quality of the sound that comes out of Flash is related to the quality of the sound that goes in. There is one set of compression/quality adjustments in the Properties window for the imported sound file in the Library panel. There is a second set of compression/quality adjustments for all of the sounds in the Publish Settings window. This second set is useful if you want to adjust sounds that are imported at runtime.

  • AC3 sounds garbled when played back through the asset window

i have a 5.1 AC3 file i made with A.Pack with DVDSP3 (now using DVDSP4) and when i played the file back in my asset window via S/PDIF out on the Mac to a Dolby Digital Capable 5.1 amp (having the prefs in DVDSP set to SPDIF not default in the simulation pref window)...it sounds REALLY garbled.....i know what a raw AC3 file sounds like played back throught a standard amp (like a code-not being able to hear anything BUT that)...and the file i tried to play back was still barely understandable...but sounded like a robot. is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

Awesome! This fix worked for me as well. I too don't know what happened after my system had been working just fine for years, then today it was all garbled. All is well now. Thanks!
