Flash & Tabs

Hello All.
I am using Dreamweaver CS3 and really like the Spry Tabs
option.
I am using these tabs and inserting Flash animations into
them.
They work fantastic when viewing the website with Firefox,
but using IE, when you click on the tab AND DO NOT MOVE THE MOUSE
only the top left quater of the flash animation shows. As soon as
the mouse is moved, the rest of the flash is shown.
Has anyone ever seen this, or know a fix? It is very
annoying.
Thanks very much

Hi there ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I have read your post on the HP Support Forums and understand that you are getting a black/blank screen after cleaning out dust and debri from the fan. I noticed that you had already tried to Connect VGA to a TV to see if the display would appear somewhere else, and it was not successful. At this point I did find two document's that may assist you in troubleshooting. Here is a document called Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot. And there is another document that may be useful called Computer Does not Start for Windows 7.
Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went. Thank you! Have a great day!

    Since I upgraded to firefox 8, I get this error window that pops up says something about java. My tabs flicker or flash, the tabs will close and open in a new window then everything stops. Then firefox does not respond. When I get this error message, I have to close all tabs wait a few seconds then open it back up it will work for a little while and then do the same thing. I have disabled plug-ins that I do not use, I have cleared my cache and cookies, I am not happy at all with this new version. I waited a while before updating. The first time I was going to update, firefox would not let me keep my anti-virus plug-in. PLEASE HELP

  • Form in flash, tab goes off form

    Sorry - I really feel at a loss here as there is nowhere I
    can find to set up a control for the order in which you can move
    from one field to another. But as I test my form, and tab from one
    field to the next - the cursor goes from first to second field,
    then off the form to the menu bar, tab again and you end up in the
    third field of the form, tab again and you go off form to the next
    option on the menu bar, tab again and you go back to the last two
    fields in the form. What can I do to keep the cursor in the form
    going from one field to the next? PLEASE!?

    Good Morning Rob...and thanks for your prompt reply.
    In this instance it is for lets say a unique picture frame system I am hoping to offer on line.  I am needing to create a page on the website where someone can enter the sizes they want in boxes.  The sizes are by definition NOT static...that is the point of course.  I would imagine they might be linked to an external data base however I have been teaching myself all manor of website design just to make my own website so I suppose the key numbers could be written into the website and changeable by me thus not requiring and external document though that sounds like possibly a good idea.  However, the math must be done for the user in real time on the open active website.  These boxes would be linked to a calculation which would return to them the price for what they are wanting based on the dimensions they entered.  I would of course want to have control of the price per "X" (height, width, length, etc.) so if and when that changes I can simply change those behind the scene numbers and the math goes along its merry way as usual.  In other words this is DATA 101 in Excel for example but I don't know how to go about setting something like this up in FLASH....or prior to your answer, if it was even possible.  No link to inventory is required.  This really should be simple stuff....assuming one knows where to look to find out how to do it.  I have combed Lynda.com and can't find instructions on how to do this.  I have seen this exact thing on other picture frame websites but I think those are Dreamweaver based websites.
    Anything you can do to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks for your time Rob.

  • Flash: Tab Order Not Working in Presenter

    In my presentation, I am including a swf file in which the user can tab between fields to enter their name, company, etc., The Tab key works to advance the cursor in the stand-alone swf file, but does not work when published through Presenter. Has anyone else had this occur? Is there a work around? Thanks!

    pguerett,
    Thanks so much! That did the trick. I kept looking at tab order, but I never looked at Hierarchy. I'm not sure how they got so messed up in that regard. (That's not the order in which I placed the fields--in fact, I imported the form.) Thanks again! That was driving me crazy!

  • IE11 tabs sometimes flash and close by themselves

    On a Windows 7 x64 computer with IE11, when I switch back and forth between different tabs, the tab that I left will sometimes flash a few times. Then if I go back to that flashing tab, it sometimes closes by itself, even though I have not clicked on the
    red 'x' to close it. This behavior just started about a week ago, and I have tried resetting IE settings, but no luck. If I roll back to IE10, I don't have this problem. Please advise.

  • Flash is not working in Adobe Acrobat Reader

    Hi - I created a bunch of Flash tabs in Flash CS6 - they work great - but I want to put them into Adobe Acrobat X PRO (the writer) and they imported just fine and work just great inside of Acrobat X PRO.  However when I go to send the exported PDF with the Flash elements inside of it - to someone who only has Acrobat Reader (but doesn't have the Flash plug-in installed on their machine) - that person can open the PDF and can even view the Flash element but they get a yellow bar across the top of the PDF that says they must install the Flash plug-in to use it.  Well that is great but this PDF is being used out in the field where they cannot install the Flash plugin....
    I am suprised it does this because Flash importing and exporting capability is native to Acrobat Reader...and I thought I read that Acrobat has flash reading/rendering capability natively built into the Reader itself.  Am I wrong - and/or does anyone have a workaround for this??
    Andrew

    Hi andrewpweyrich
    What is the version of Adobe Reader You're using ?
    Flash has been removed from the Reader X in latest releases and also it has been removed from Reader XI.
    You Need to sepeately download and install the Flash plug-in to view the flash content.

  • Yet another high cpu using flash issue

    Salutations. What I'm about to tell you won't come to you as a surprise as there have been many similar topics discussed here. In fact, on the first page, there were two. So let's get on with it!
    hp pavillion entertainment notebook dv6 e2170ee
    windows 7 64bit
    6gb ram
    intel core i7 cpu q 720 @ 1.60 GHz    (never overclocked. don't know how to)
    nvidia geforce gt 230m
    firefox is on safe mode. kind of better than regular mode.
    firefox waaaay better than chrome in handling flash. haven't tried it on ie. don't want to. i left ie8 at version 8
    flash hardware accelration is off
    firefox hardware accelaration is on
    latest flash player enabled
    latest shock player enabled
    latest flash director enabled
    latest firefox
    no idea if my vents and cooling system work properly. read several posts about this issue being related to hardware.
    i have updated my drivers using hp support assistant, driver detective, and windows update. wouldn't be surprised if there was a conflict with all this nvidia driver as well. went to the site. it detected my model and sent me the driver. had audio and video options in it.
    while writing this post, the adobe tab + 4 flash tabs off the same site (youtube, younow, cam sites, etc) are open.
    performance tab in taskbar says
    flashplayer 15 *32bit (2 processes with the same name but diff cpu usage by the way. why 2?) is using 5%
    firefox *32 bit is using 5%
    audiodg.exe is nowhere to be found
    now firefox and flashplayer keep alternating ofcourse. flash always ends up with higher cpu when everything breaks. i have noticed that even after closing ff, ff and flash are still in the processes table. they stay there for a bit. why?
    ISSUE NUMBER 1: i can't play a video and have flash players on at the same time. I'd like to watch a movie and every now and then look to my other screen to see what's going on with the flash site. it can't be done. all is well at the beginning then it goes to hell. i have the latest free version of bsplayer and videolan. Yes vlc handles better but it all goes to hell in the end. sometimes the video won't even show on vlc; only audio
    ISSUE NUMBER 2: i don't understand the logic behind the increase in cpu. if i have 6 tabs open all flash all is well. but at some point it just spikes up. so i always try to keep the number of flash tabs as low as possible. sometimes 4 are no issue but 5 are a big issue. sometimes closing a tab helps and sometimes it doesnt.
    ISSUE NUMBER 3: audiodg starts using more than 2%. It can go up to 11 or 13 even. That shouldn't happen. I've been told that for it to go beyond 2 or even 3 means there's a conflict. I had trouble dealing with this issue. I don't know what or where the conflict is. So if there's anyone here that's good at this please contact me. Ill post a pic of device manager. For the sound, i have 4 nvideo and 1 idt audio codec. I cdon't know which to disable or uninstall. im thinking of unintalling every audio/video driver i hav and start from the beginning. BUT LETS NOT MAKE THIS ABOUT AUDIO/VIDEO CONFLICT
    QUESTION 1: was there ever a time when this issue didn't exist? perhaps there's a "stable" version of ff or flash that don't cause this.
    QUESTION 2: ive seen a lot of posts about this but I honestly can't remember any participants saying OH REALLY? ODD, I NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE
    QUESTION 3: isn't there some kind of tracer that can track the moment that it goes to hell? im sure there is but no one's mentioned it so far
    QUESTION 4: would buying a new laptop solve this? I'd like to think not since the issue is flash not the capabilities of a laptop but i can't help but think that a better laptop will fix this. My laptop is 4 years old.
    QUESTION 5: i don't know anything about multithreading or multiple cores handling a single process but if someone showed me how, would that resolve my issue?
    MY WISH: for flash to coexist peacefully with human beings

    Disabling Hardware Acceleration in Flash means that we're doing all of the processing on the CPU, instead of on the GPU.  The GPU is purpose-built for 3D graphics and video decoding and is far more power efficient.  Decoding H.264 video in software is very CPU intensive, which is why we made the huge investment to enable hardware acceleration on the vast majority of available desktop hardware. Running six CPU intensive tasks simultaneously (which is what you're doing by using six simultaneous tabs) is unsurprisingly going to tax your machine.
    If you've disabled Hardware Acceleration because video wasn't working right or something, figuring out how to get that enabled (or moving to better hardware with good driver support) would solve the vast majority of what you're describing here.  If HP doesn't offer updated drivers, I'd recommend trying the corresponding Nvidia drivers, as OEMs aren't always motivated to pick up the latest fixes once a model is no longer generating new revenue for them.  The chipset manufacturers tend to provide longer support, but those drivers aren't officially supported by the OEM.
    The architecture for Protected Mode for Firefox is a result of the fact that we've retrofitted a modern plug-in security approach to a legacy plug-in architecture.  As you've noticed, equivalent sandboxing in other major browsers is designed into their plug-in architectures, and is therefore more efficient.  We've made huge investments to support modern security architecture and always do our best to accommodate efforts from our partners in the browser space to further secure the browser.  You can find a detailed explanation of our approach to Firefox here: Inside Flash Player Protected Mode for Firefox
    Firefox controls the instantiation and destruction of Flash instances.  You'll also notice that Firefox hangs out for a while after shutdown.  This is something that we're aware of, but it's beyond our control.
    Flash doesn't have much to do with audiodg, except for the fact that it generates sound and uses the windows sound subsystem.  This article seems to present some reasonable advice in resolving issues with high CPU consumption from the sound subsystem.  Fix Audiodg.exe High CPU Usage in Windows 7 | Windows EXE Errors
    Hardware accelerated video encoding is typically not available on consumer-grade hardware (primarily because of the difference in licensing models for encoding and decoding with popular commercial codecs), and therefore is done on the CPU.  The particular website chooses what codecs and bitrates are involved, and higher quality feed will consume more CPU.  It's also worth pointing out that not all video can be decoded in hardware.  We provide clear guidance to content providers on how to encode video so that it can be played back efficiently, it's ultimately up to the content provider to follow that advice.
    So, long story short, each tab consumes resources.  Running a single tab is going to use less resources than running multiple tabs.  The latest version of Internet Explorer does some stuff to reduce resource consumption in tabs that you're not actively looking at.  We're discussing possibilities with the Chrome folks for doing the same thing in Chromium-based browsers.  Mozilla isn't interested in investing in browser plug-ins, so we don't expect to see the necessary browser-side improvements there.  The Chrome sandboxing model is more efficient that protected mode for Firefox, so tasks that require moving a lot of data (like streaming video) may use less CPU in Chrome.
    To answer your questions specifically:
    1.) There was a time before we supported multiple tabs, webcam streaming, H.264 video decoding and modern security sandboxing.  I wouldn't recommend using those versions.
    2.) There are a few posts about this, but we have ~1.5 billion users.  The majority of the very small number of folks relative to our install base are complaining their machines are overheating, which is a symptom of an ineffective cooling system.
         There's nothing magic about Flash that causes it to somehow superheat the CPU.
         There was a time before tabs, where people didn't normally run 5-50 browser windows.  Websites also got much more complex, and the security threats got far more serious and complex.
         Playing video as a plug-in in the browser as opposed to something like VLC is inherently less efficient, as pretty much each pixel and packet gets passed through the browser before it gets to the OS or drivers.
         All of these things require additional processing.  The resources on your computer are still finite, and there is an upper limit to the number of simultaneous tabs you can use.
         At some point, you come to a juncture where you need to decide between throwing more hardware at the problem, or using less tabs simultaneously.
         Also, most laptops have power saving CPUs, so they'll ratchet the clock speed down to save battery.  You might want to check your power settings to make sure you're running at the CPU's full capacity when plugged in.
    3.) Not that would generate anything really useful.
    4.) Possibly.  You actually already have a multi-core machine.  I think you'd get more bang for your buck by enabling hardware acceleration and switching browsers.
    5.) You already have a multi-core machine that we support.
    Your Wish: We're constantly addressing security issues identified through our own testing, emerging research and intelligence from our partners in academia, government and industry.  We're also looking for opportunities to tune the player, but the reality is that Intel, Nvidia and ATI (and a long list of others, in addition to Adobe) have tuned Flash Player extensively for their hardware.  We work closely with the Internet Explorer and Chrome teams to continue to make the Flash experience better, and are always happy to work with the Firefox team should they decide that they're interested in plug-ins and the desktop browser again.  At the end of the day, Flash is just a low-level runtime.  It's just as possible to write inefficient ActionScript as it is to write inefficient C++, and while we provide some fantastic tooling for profiling your Flash content, it's up to individual content providers to write efficient code.  It's really difficult to find opportunities to make generic optimizations that don't break a percentage of the hundreds of millions of sites published with Flash content.
    I'm actually still not clear on what the problem you're experiencing is.  All software running on your machine that's actively processing something is going to use a non-zero percentage of CPU time.  The symptoms you describe indicate that Flash consumes 5% of the CPU, which is totally reasonable.  I'm guessing that I don't have the complete story.

  • Saving Flash 7 SWF created in Flash 8

    I understand from experience that viewing Flash 8 SWF files
    on the Flash 7 Player results in text not showing up. The Flash 8
    text is obviously superior, but unfortunately, a major contingent
    of my viewers are too afraid, too naive, or their systems are too
    messed up to upgrade their Flash Players from earlier versions.
    Obviously, to solve the problem, I can save the SWF as Flash 7
    backward compatible; however, I am more than disappointed with the
    results of this solution. The main problems with this approach is
    that the text looks week and the bitmap alignment is no longer
    perfect when trying to intermingle my flash content with existing
    background content.
    Please someone help me with a better solution by providing me
    with a list of parameters that need to be in place so that my Flash
    7 files created in Flash 8 look more presentable.

    > Peter, as for a list of parameters, I mean precisely
    what options should
    I
    > check off in the Flash 8 export movie dialog box when
    saving Flash 7
    compatible
    > SWF.
    There seems to be come confusion here. It's not a matter of
    'checking off'
    options, rather of publish settings. In the 'Publish
    Settings' dialogue,
    under the 'Flash' tab, 'Version', select 'Flash Player 7'.
    the important
    thing is not to use any *features* that depend on Flash
    Player 8 - these
    include (but are not limited to!) filters, any of the new
    text rendering
    options (custom anti-alias), any of the new Classes (geom,
    filters, display,
    external) etc etc etc.
    > I cannot dissagree more. I have examples where my symbol
    elements shrink

    > half a pixel compared to when exported normally in Flash
    8. This is aweful
    when
    > the edges of my animated sections don't line up with the
    non-Flash
    content. I
    > tried saving my FLA as Flash MX2004, reopened and
    exported the movie as
    Flash 7
    > and that didn't help.
    Again, you are a bit confused I think. Obviously they will be
    different than
    if published for FP8 - that wasn't my point. What I said was:
    > > If you are publishing for Flash Player 7, your text
    and bitmaps will
    look
    > > the same as
    > > they would if yo uhad created the content in Flash
    MX2004.
    So, using Flash 8 to author but publishing for FP7 will look
    the same as
    using Flash MX2004 ('Flash 7') to create your content. You
    are saying your
    bitmaps shrink "compared to when exported normally in Flash
    8" - I never
    mentioned publishing for Flash 8.
    > Hmmm, the exported Flash 7 text (generated in Flash 8)
    looks weak even
    when
    > playing it on the Flash 8 Player. Something is converted
    in the process
    and my
    > choice of fonts is set.
    Well yes, of course. You said it yourself - you have exported
    for FP7 -
    playing it in FP8 won;t magically make it look better! For
    that, you would
    have to *publish* for FP8.
    > How does one follow the FP7 method for this

  • Flash Player crashing on every code execution

    Every time I run this code my flash player (projector) is crashing.
    function ftwoB(event:MouseEvent) {
         navigateToURL(new URLRequest("lessons/lesson2/reading"));
    ¿Any idea why? ¿Any suggestions? Thanks

    I'm a windows user. I do have an imac on the side of me but know very little on sys admin on it. I just use it for iOS dev. But I am an admin level account. Is your account admin level? I'm not certain this factors in but sometimes I need to "run as admin" on windows to rule out any access issues.
    Can you explain more about "what" is crashing? The projector? The browser the should be popping up?
    Also I believe a projector auto-sets the sandbox it's in to access local files only but you might want to check that option. I believe the dropdown is at the bottom as soon as you open your publish settings and hit the flash tab (sorry I use FlashBuilder now). Make sure that's on access local files only.
    Lastly you definitely should put your code (that you know is failing) in a try {} catch() {} block.
    e.g.
    function ftwoB(event:MouseEvent) {
        try
           navigateToURL(new URLRequest("lessons/lesson2/reading"));
        } catch (e) { }
    Just to keep it from crashing. If the error is in flash it will catch it and excuse it without crashing.
    Start trying other means of accessing the file (who's properties you've hopefully verified you have read access to).
    e.g. navigateToURL(new URLRequest("./lessons/lesson2/reading/index.html"));
    e.g. navigateToURL(new URLRequest("file:///C|/path/to/lessons/lesson2/reading/index.html"));
    See if any other alternate means of accessing the file works.
    FYI I have no issue loading a local files. I made an extremely quick example that loads using your own code on my system. Just one button that procs that function and loads an index.html. I used a frame script to keep it simple and saved it down to CS4 as I don't know what version you use.

  • PLEASE HELP ASAP! Button in Flash CS3 not working

    I need help desperately. As soon as possible. I only know the
    VERY basic's of flash, so I need it to be simple!! I am using Flash
    CS3, but the only coding I know is from Flash 8.
    1.I simply want to just be able to type out text that will be
    my button. (I clearly know how to do this)
    2.Convert that text to a button. (I know how to do this as
    well)
    3. Apply an action to the button. (I keep getting the error
    "actions cannot be applied to the current selection")
    4. Have that button go to a specific place in the timeline
    that I have named (It has the red flag next so I know where to send
    the button to)
    5. This is the ONLY code I know is even close to what I need
    to have it be at:
    on (release) {
    //Movieclip GotoAndStop Behavior
    this.gotoAndStop("graphic");
    //End Behavior
    Is there a way to upload the flash files? If so I will
    upload, because I know this sounds simple enough, but it wont work.
    Thanks
    Ashlee

    You are trying to use AS1 in your movie, and the movie's
    Publish settings are set to use AS3. You can use your current code
    by opening the Publish Settings, going to the Flash tab and then
    selecting AS1-AS2 in the Actionscript option.
    A better, long term solution, would be to read through the
    tutorials that come with Flash CS3 to learn the proper coding
    techniques to use with AS3.

  • Full Screen Flash

    So, I created my Flash movie and set the publish settings to
    100% and "No Scale" under the Flash tab. I then add the following
    code to my head tag as mentioned in the Kirupa article. When I then
    view my website it still has a color for my background showing on
    the sides. Why is this? I thought it should only show my swf?
    <style type="text/css">
    body {
    height: 100%;
    width: 100%;
    margin: 0;
    </style>
    http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/fullscreen.htm

    One thing that I see wrong with this, is that you are calling
    two different .swf files:
    <param name="movie" value="SOW.swf" />
    <embed src="SOWFLA2.swf"
    However I don't see what is causing the gutter to still show
    up around the browser window. I copied and pasted the code you
    supplied and created my own .swf and it works fine. What I would do
    is break down your code to the simplest form and test from there
    (take out everything except for what will make your .swf play in
    your test environment). Here is an example of what I'm talking
    about:
    <html xmlns="
    http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xml:lang="en" lang="en">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;

    <title>browserTest</title>
    <style type="text/css">
    body {
    height: 100%;

    </head>

    height="100%" name="browserTest" align="middle"
    allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="false"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="

    />
    </object>
    </body>
    </html>
    Replace my movie name(browserTest.swf) in the param and embed
    tags with your own and run the page in a browser.

  • Flash CS3/CS4 Sound Problem

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a soundboard and I have all my buttons and stuff, the only thing left is to put the sound files in. However, I have tried adding them to the library and dragging and dropping them over the HIT option like I usually do, but when I export the swf file, the sound file sounds terrible, it crackles and sometimes stutters a bit. I have tried setting these sound files to mp3 and raw in adobe options but with no luck. I am using actionscript 2.0 if that has anything to do with it. Also, I need these files embedded, not just linked. Please let me know any suggestions you might have.
    Thanks.

    In the Export Settings dialog, go to the Flash tab and look at the Images and Sounds section. Check the Audio Stream and Audio Event settings. It's a common occurrence for the sound to be set to a low data rate and monophonic. If so, click both of the Set buttons and adjust the compression, bit rate and quality settings.

  • Flash Player security Pop up when using camera and microphone.

    Hello Friends
    Can any body suggest me how to remove flash player security pop up for camera and microphone through coding.
    Thanks in advance.

    The security pop-up was first introduced with FP7. If you want to bypass it I can name two ways off the top of my head:
    1. Regardless of ActionScript version (2.0/3.0) in the Flash authoring enviroment, in the Publish Settings dialogue box, the Flash tab, near the bottom choose Access Network Only from Local Playback Security.
    2. Publish your movie as a projector. Both of these techniques will allow to "play" your swf file locally.

    action script in flash 7 and 8 was changes slightly and not
    all things
    are compatible from flash 6 files.
    Go to file - publish setting and under FLASH tab select
    version 6 and action script 1.0
    This could help. Else you have no choice but redo the
    template so it is new player
    compatible.
