Flash Takes Forever to Open Files

I'm currently running FLASH CS3 on my 17" powerbook and it's
slow create new files and even slower to open pre-existing ones.
Sometimes it takes so long I wind up having to force quit. Anyone
have any ideas on what might be wrong?

There could be 100 reasons why that's happening. Could be
your RAM, processor, corrupt flash installation, corrupt or out of
date drivers, low hard drive space, you didn't get enough sleep,
etc... You need to provide more info.

  • It takes forever to open files or insert files in Pages.

When I try to open a file (or open from the recent file drop down), or insert a file, in pages I get the spinning beachball for 30 seconds before I can do anything. This started before I installed Lion, but it's worse with Lion.  Help!!!

It seems that something is wrong on your machine.
    Here the menu open instantaneously.
I wish to add that from my point of view, when we open a document thru the "Open Recents" tab, it's not a new document.
A new document is a document which was just created from a template.

  • Trying to move files to trash takes forever, and finder windows take forever to load files/apps

after recently installing Mackeeper (yes, I know..) and attempting to uninstall, my macbook pro 13" al. is taking forever to move a file to the trash, and it equally takes forever to open a finder window. running 10.6.8.

MacKeeper is an exception to the rule that system modifications should be uninstalled according to the developer's instructions. Although not generally recognized as such, MacKeeper is in fact a trojan, because the developer distributes an uninstaller that purports to delete it, but leaves behind something that causes popup ads to appear in the user’s web browser. Try following the instructions here:

I can't personally vouch for the accuracy of those instructions, but others seem to have had success with them.

  • Firefox runs extremely slow on 64 bit PC it takes forever to open bookmarks are we going to get a 64 bit firefox

Firefox runs extremely slow on 64 bit PC it takes forever to open bookmarks and also hangs when I try to open anything within firefox I have used firefox since it started on 32 bit systems until I installed it on my 64 bit a week ago and have had this problem and others since, are we going to get a 64 bit firefox

Thanks for getting back to me Dave!
The file is about 91 MB in size, with just under 400 scanned pages.
I’ve also encountered the problem when I’ve tried to OCR one of these old books.  I’ve had to do it 50-100 pages at a time, closing and re-opening the file each time.
Based on my online search for a solution, I had concluded that the 2 GB limit for 32-bit programs was the most likely source of the problem.  But I’m wondering now if Acrobat could use 2 GB  in processing a 91 MB file.

How long does it usually take from taping the icon until you can take photos?
My iPhone 4 takes 5 seconds, since you're using iPhone 4S I would imagine it should take no more 5 seconds.
Having said that, holding the Home and Sleep/Wake button until your iPhone restarts has shown to show improvements in overall performance (since it quits all applications). Users I know have also experiance better performance by updating to the latest version of iOS.

Preview takes forever to open, much slower than on my old MacBook running Snow Leopard. It has been like this since I bought the computer last January. Any ideas?

Take it to an Apple Store for testing. If you don't get immediate satisfaction, exchange it for another one, which you can do at no cost, no questions asked, within 14 days of delivery.

  • ITunes takes forever to open!!

When I open iTunes in my Dock, it takes at least five minutes to open. I timed it tonight. This is a fairly recent problem, maybe for the last month or so. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this could be because I have a LOT of iPhone Applications in iTunes now?
I'm also having problems with other apps on my Mac, such as iPhoto running very slow, but only iTunes takes forever to open. iPhoto opens quickly, freezes a lot while using it, and takes several minutes to close, probably due to having over 20,000 photos in it.
So I'm thinking the iTunes problem probably isn't related to the iPhoto problems.
Also, I just did an "Archive and Install" with the Leopard OS at the advice of an Apple store Genius, but it didn't fix or change anything. In fact, the Install took six hours, which I believe is longer than normal.
Does anyone know if a large amount of App store apps in iTunes can affect how long it takes to open?
Or should I be asking this question at the iPhone forum?
    Thanks in advance, Deb

Hello back, and thank you both for responding. I had no idea there was two separate iTunes forums. I guess I'll go post to the right one.
I'm the only Mac user in a house of PC users, so my three guys are no help to me. Well, one of them has a Macbook, but he uses his desktop PC the most. Anyway...
I have 50 Gigs left on my hard drive and that's only because I had to do two "Archive and Installs" on my iMac last week. That left me with over 20 gigs in two "Previous System Folders". I'm going to delete them eventually to get that space back, but my problems were happening before when I had almost 75 gigs, and are still happening now. Nothing has changed.
My iTunes has maybe 10 gigs of stuff total, with most of it music, then maybe iPhone applications (probably 2 or 3 gigs), but only one short 45 minute video, and a couple of podcasts. Nothing else. I'm a middle aged mom, so I'm not much into iTunes except for my iPhone stuff.
So, I'm confused by iTunes reluctance to open, but will go post on the Mac iTunes forum.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to me!
    Greatly appreciated... Deb

My I Mac, using 10.8.4 is very slow, mail takes forever to open and the spinning pinwheel starts every time I try to use mail.  any suggestions?

What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
How full is your Apple Mail?
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of "crapware" like so called hard drive "cleaning" apps?

Don't know if that would be a failing hard drive, but it may be that you are out of available space. How much hard drive space do you have available? Please highlight the Macintosh HD icon and then press Command and I for a get info window. Once open, please copy and post the following:

Mac OS requires a minimum of 10 - 15% of total hard drive space available and empty at all times in order to operate properly.

    Hey Hannah-O,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
So the Time preferences will not load, the fan is running at full speed, and the CPU is being used. You can try starting the computer in safe mode to disable nonessential items then restarting like normal. If it is still having the issue then reset the SMC. That can help applications that may not function correctly or stop responding after being opened.

  • Why does Safari take forever to open now?

For some reason Safari takes forever to open on my computer. This just started in the last week. The icon just bounces over and over until it finally stops with no triangular black arrow next to it. When I click on it again (after the initial bouncing) it slowly opens my home page. After reading all the other posts that might help my situation, I've reset Safari, checked for duplicate fonts, checked my proxies, thrown out Safari icons, etc.. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

    Hi Starman
Thank you for your quick response. When I clicked the Safari icon this morning, it opened right up, so I don't know if one of the other things I tried before really did fix it or if this is just a fluke. Should I still throw out the cache in the Safari folder? I thought 'reset Safari' in the drop down menu would have already done that. Thanks for any response.
