Flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.CAPS_AND_SMALL_CAPS

In AS3,  flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.CAPS_AND_SMALL_CAPS  seems to not have the desired effect (Specifies that all lowercase characters use small-caps glyphs on  output.). It only makes everything upper case. I've searched the forums and Google and my conclusion is that this is a bug in AS3. Can someone confirm that? If not a bug what is the trick? I am using the code prrovided by Adobe here:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS3LCR/Flash_10.0/flash/text/engine/ElementFormat.html#typogra phicCase for class ElementFormatExample and I changed
ef1.typographicCase = flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.UPPERCASE;
to
ef1.typographicCase = flash.text.engine.TypographicCase.CAPS_AND_SMALL_CAPS;
also tried SMALL_CAPS with no luck.
What I need is to output the first letter as uppercase and larger than the rest of the letters in the words, and 2nd letter to end also in uppercase but smaller font size (the smal caps glyph).
Thanks.

Did you ever figure out a work-around or find out if this just isn't an option? I've tried applying my small-caps style every way I can possibly think of to no avail. If I take away the <cfdocument...> the HTML renders fine and even passes validation on W3C. I'm assuming that PDFs just don't support that style. I just wanted to see if you had any other info on this since I can't seem to find any other posts from users trying to do this.
Thanks!

  • Why new Flash Text Engine (FTE) renders characters incorrectly? (Sometimes there is a space)

    I have been trying to create a HTML Wrapper for my CMS, but the old TextField just cant do it.
    With the new much more versatile Flash Text Engine (I am not reffering to FTL), I have successfuly created the wrapper. However i have one problem.
    WHY new Flash Text Engine sometimes added a space between 2 characters? it makes the text ugly
    I have uploaded the image to prove my point
    Please Note : That the Left Side is the HTML Text Render (which correctly render all texts)
    With KERNING set to "on" , check the word 'underline' and the word 'paragraph' (I have marked it with red circle)
    With KERNING set to "off", check the word 'Text' and the word 'paragraph' (I have marked it with red circle)
    Now, is there any solution? hell, i should have turned 'on' the kerning right? but both turning 'on' and 'off' presents a problem of their own (in how they add a space randomly)
    Any help will be greatly appreciated, or even a "you should look at Class X" will be enough (I am quite proficient in ActionScript 3.0)
    Cheers and God Bless,
    Chowi

    You are right about high CPU usage. It was even when playing various computer games. I don't have problems anymore. But not because I disabled all addons. I did these things:
    In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
    Search for dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode in the list of preferences.
    Double-click on the preference to toggle its value from false to true. (If the setting is already true it means that Flash Protected Mode is currently disabled.)
    Close Firefox.
    Restart Firefox.
    And since then I don't have that particular problem with overloading. I just disabled some of flash protected mode. How is that related with "overloading"? Strage. Hardware acceleration I've enabled again as without it whole text field in news sites is sometimes black.
    Thanks anyway Mr.

  • Reliably calculating character bounds for Right-To-Left languages using flash.text.engine.* classes?

    I just filed a bug in the Adobe bugbase about this, but I thought maybe the community could help with a workaround (or point me in another direction if I'm looking at it wrong).
    I don't know an elegant way to describe the defect, but it's something like this:
    Create a Vector of ContentElements and add a TextElement containing a right-to-left string in a language such as Hindi (ex. "वह बाग़ में दोपहर का खाना ")
    Create a TextBlock with a GroupElement and use it to create a TextLine to display the right-to-left string
    Walk through each character in the right-to-left string and try to calculate its boundaries using the TextLine's "getAtomBounds" method.
    What I'm seeing in my test project is that the number of characters (atoms?) the TextLine reports is fewer than the number of characters that were in the original string. I was under the impression that TextLine would offer some method of automatically converting from a logical character index into a display index (to keep things simpler for the end user). That doesn't seem to be the case, and I don't see any way to use TextLine's methods to do that conversion.
    Am I overlooking something obvious?

    Update: I was missing something obvious!
    It seems like TextLine's getAtomTextBlockBeginIndex and getAtomTextBlockEndIndex methods were exactly what I was looking for. It just took me a while to find them and realize that. So to convert from a logical (unicode) character index to a display (atom) index, you can do this...
    private function getCharBounds( charIndex:int ):Rectangle {
         for ( var childIndex:int = 0; childIndex < textContainer.numChildren; childIndex++ ) {
              var textLine:TextLine = textContainer.getChildAt( childIndex ) as TextLine;
              for ( var atomIndex:int = 0; atomIndex < textLine.atomCount; atomIndex++ ) {
                   var charIndexRangeStart:int = textLine.getAtomTextBlockBeginIndex( atomIndex );
                   var charIndexRangeStop:int = textLine.getAtomTextBlockEndIndex( atomIndex );
                   if ( charIndex >= charIndexRangeStart && charIndex <= charIndexRangeStop ) {
                        var rectangle:Rectangle =
                             textLine.getAtomBounds(
                                  atomIndex );
                        var point:Point =
                             textContainer.globalToLocal(
                                  textLine.localToGlobal(
                                       new Point( rectangle.x, rectangle.y ) ) );
                        rectangle.x = point.x;
                        rectangle.y = point.y;
                        return rectangle;
         return null;

  • Flash text and flash buttons in DW CS4

    Hi,
    I have installed DW CS4 on my pc with Vista Home Premium 64
    Bit...I have edit my website homepage and I have discovered that I
    can't edit all flash text and buttons that I have created with DW
    CS3! I have see that the adobe has removed from CS4 version this
    option! So, now how I can resolve this problem??
    I have try to install also the CS3 version but I don't
    understand because I can't no more activated it from internet or
    phone option!
    I'm very angry for this, now I have to recreate from the
    begin all flash text and buttons of my website with other software?
    perhaps to buy also the Flash CS4 version for the solution? is this
    the new idea of adobe with their new CS4 version?

    It was a poor choice on Adobe's part to ever include such an
    option, and on
    your part for using it. Think about it -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    Especially
    consider those people who are browsing from a corporate
    internet where Flash
    is not allowed by the IT staff.
    2. Search engines may not parse Flash links - your site will
    not be
    spidered unless you have redundant HTML links
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    You will have
    to remake those buttons.
    It's almost always a very bad idea for these reasons.
    The solution is to make graphics to replace the Flash
    elements, or just use
    CSS styled text.

  • Flash Search Engine SDK

    Hi Folks,
    I´ve got some questions concerning the lately released
    Flash Search Engine SDK.
    Well, what I know so far is it allows spiders from Google or
    Yahoo to read out the text used in .swf files.
    But how does it really work? For example:
    If you avoid using flash on a website the normal way to get
    an acceptable page rank is to use things like title, keywords which
    are repeatedly used in continuous text, h1/h2 tags, file names,
    link names, ...
    But which of those things apply on the .swf files as well?
    Are link names recognized as related to their target and by
    their content?
    Do keywords defined in the head apply on the .swf files?
    Do the spiders see dynamic generated text inside the .swf
    files (text you read out of external files, xml files, ...)
    I hope you can give me some useful information on how it
    works exactly because I couldn´t find any useful confirmed
    information on the internet so far.
    Thanks beforehand.

    The spiders see ALL text on all pages. They actually run a
    specialized version of the player, and they go through and catch
    any text. They don't catch text that is invisible, off the display
    list, or off the stage, and they only catch text that is still text
    (so no broken apart text). They do see the dynamically-generated
    text, but the specialized player does not allow the loading of
    files, so if it is XML-generated, they don't catch it. A caveat
    there, the google spider will mark the XML file that you try to
    load, and will crawl and cache it separately.
    Also, the text does not have size or color information, so
    weighting information visually does not work.
    Google has not released anything (even to the Adobe devs
    working on this) about how the information is getting weighted.
    Here is a link to Jim Corbett's MAX session this year, which
    covers all of this information and more in detail:

  • Flash text target  _self problem

    I am a graphic artist using Mac (Leopard) and have uploaded
    my Dreamweaver-created portfolio to a personal web page at Comcast.
    I have created 3 flash text buttons (HOME, PORTFOLIO, and RESUME)
    and the target is _self. When navigating my pages should switch to
    new pages but instead, new pages just keep getting added. This
    works OK when I preview it in Dreamweaver, but online it keeps
    adding new pages.
    http://home.comcast.net/~susurrus/susan/

    > 3 flash text buttons (HOME, PORTFOLIO, and RESUME)
    Bad idea. If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider
    this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
    > and the target is _self.
    You cannot apply HTML attributes to Flash elements.

  • Flash text white box.

    I am following Garrick Chow's Dreamweaver CS3 HOT. I am
    unable to insert flash text into the training files as instructed.
    When I follow the same instructions on a blank page that I have
    made, it works fine.
    What to do? My guess is there is some setting in the pages
    that he has given us that prevents viewing this flash. I get the
    same white box that YuriyKr describes. I have made the chapter that
    we are working on a new site in the site set up box, and all of the
    folders are green in my files list on the right. So, the flash I
    create is in the correct place.
    Now What?

    Skip that section. Flash text is both an accessability and a
    search engine
    problem.
    However, show us the page and someone will likely be able to
    help you.

  • Flash text problem

    The text in my flash animation should be Arial font but it
    shows up as Times New Roman. My animation also allows users to
    select the text with their cursor when it is playing. If anyone
    could take a look at the link below which has the animation and
    make some suggestions as to how I could fix this it would be
    greatly appreciated.
    http://www.hjb.vzz.net

    Flash text is usually the sure mark of an amateur site. It
    also denies
    access to that text to those who don't have Flash, to search
    engines for
    ranking your site, and to those using assistive screen
    devices. It's not
    something I would use on any site unless I had a compelling
    reason to do so.
    All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
    to speak,
    including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
    Active X controls.
    This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
    is not a good
    cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
    if you can be
    confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
    use the Flash
    wmode parameter (however, Safari does not support this
    properly!).

  • [FLASH] Macromedia Flash Search Engine SDK

    no tuviera Flash y
    está muy bien. </div>
    <script type="text/javascript"> // <![CDATA[ var fo
    = new
    FlashObject("flashmovie.swf", "flashmovie", "300", "300",
    "8", "#FF6600");
    fo.write("flashcontent"); // ]]> </script> </
    div> <script
    type="text/javascript"> / / <! [CDATA [var a = new
    FlashObject (
    "flashmovie.swf", "flashmovie", "300", "300", "8", " # FF6600
    "); fo.write
    (" flashcontent "); / /]]> </ script>
    Esto, escrito en tu archivo js, hace que google se salte el
    swf e indexe lo
    que ocupa su lugar, pero si el visitante tiene el plugin y el
    javascript
    instalado y activo, respectivamente, entonces lo
    mostrará. Incluso si
    apuntas tu web a una base de datos google la reindexará
    automáticamente de
    contínuo (salvo que el archivo robots.txt de tu servidor
    le indique lo
    contrario). Puedes, pero debes tener cuidado con, incluir
    enlaces externos
    en el contenido alternativo, ya que podrían considerarte
    una linkfarm y
    penalizarte.
    Existen otras técnicas, pero esta me da muy buen
    resultado.
    Salu2

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialised".

    This problem has just started, only with CC 2014. It doesn't happen with CC or CS6.
    When I open a particular layered file, then Duplicate it, then close the original Master file I get the "text engine" warning box when I try to enter text in the copy file.
    If I enter text in the original Master file - no problem.
    If the Master file is still open and I try to enter text in the copy file  - no problem.
    I've validated all my fonts in Font Book, deleting all the duplicates and one corrupt font. No change to problem.
    I've gone to User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC2014/ and trashed the CT Font Cache folder. No change to problem.
    I've run PS Update.
    Running OS 10.9.3.
    Any suggestions?

    I'm having the same issue on my work computer. I found this info in Adobe's help section.
    Issue
    When you use the Type Tool, you receive the following error:
    "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text ending from being initialized."
    To the top
    Solution
    Close Photoshop, clear the font cache, and restart.
    Exit Photoshop.
    In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/CT Font Cache folder.
    Move these two files to the Recycle Bin:
    AdobeFnt_CMaps.lst
    AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst
    Empty the Recycle Bin.
    Restart Photoshop.
    To the top
    Additional information
    This issue can occur after you uninstall and reinstall Photoshop several times.
