Flash to wmv

can i convert from flash (swf) or raw files in captivate to
wmv???
tnx in advance

There isn't - to my knowledge - any way of playing a WMV in flash, and this has nothing to do with the streaming server.  If you buy the streaming server, you still can't use WMV.  Its not built in to the player.
WMV is owned by Microsoft, and would need to be licensed ($$) to be included in any plug-ins not also owned by Microsoft.
H.264 (the standard of online video) is open, and usable without cost.  Not only can you play any H.264 content with the flashPlayer, you can also play it with Silverlight, and Quicktime.

  • Flash or WMV video

    Hi experts,
One question, couldn't find it through the search, but how can I embed a flash/wmv video files in the portal?
We want to store those files in KM and we wont to select them through an iview. Can some one plz give me some pointers on this!!
    Thanks!

    Ramsaran,
If you directly access a video file though URL iview then the file may open in a seperate window.
You implement your requirement on this way too,
Upload wmv file into portal. Create a hmtl which will embed the video file. Please your html accessible by portal. create an URL iview to access the html page.

  • No Flash Audio

Not really sure when it happened becuase i normally leave the sound off when i'm on the net (i hate those stupid flash adds...), but somewhere along the line, the audio stopped working for flash applications, .wmv, and some .mov files (not all). I'm using flip4mac so all .wmv show up in quicktime and have reinstalled that as well as macromedia, but still nothing... anybody have any ideas?

Go to Start, then Run, type: DXDIAG and click OK. Then run all the tests to check for problems.
Use Gspot (v2.70a) to check the .swf file to determine any issues with it. It's a standalone app which means you don't have to install it. Download from here: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/index.htm
Click the button at the top shown by the arrow in the first screenshot and then navigate to the file location. In the next screenshot, click the button (#1) shown at the bottom to get an analysis. Then click button #2 which appears underneath to see if the file with play. You can also hover the mouse over the results in the analysis to get more info.

Adobe Flash Player and Flip4Mac also add playable extensions should the content be flash or wmv. I recommend you also download "Click to Flash" which is a Safari extension that allows you to click flash content to view (thus saving your precious battery juice).

  • Embedding video--what format to use

If I use QuickTime will all visitors be able to view it?

As Tim already pointed out if the PC users don't have the free Quicktime for Windows installed they won't be able to view the videos. Alternate formats would be flash or wmv. You will need a 3rd party application to convert the QT files to either of those formats. That's an area I'm not well versed in.

  • Web compression

So i have experimented with different compressions....but i would just like to hear what a professional would do.
I have a 16:9 vid that i would like to host on my website at optimum quality. How would u compress this footage?
    Aaron

You've answered part of your question in that you know your source is 16:9. So, your target stream will be 16:9 or properly formatted 4:3. There are articles all over the web on how to do this. Now you just need to pick a codec, bit rate, frame rate, and if your source is interlaced, how you are going to make your stream progressive. Quality is subjective, so all of this is up to you. Some of the more used codecs for the web are: H.264, MPEG4, MPEG1, Flash, and WMV. The choices are yours.

  • Cannot locate a proxy

    Cannot locate a proxy
    i made a normal upload
do anyone know y i had this message??

Ok, first, what type of file is it? If it's like Flash or WMV (non QT format) then proxies won't be generated. But you said that in Search All Jobs it says that the Proxies were created successfully (like it literally says that a Proxy was created and not just that the file was uploaded to FCSVR catalogue)? When you uploaded the file, the thumbnail and posterframe are showing up?
Also, where is your proxy device? You can right click on the Proxy.bundle and open the contents and manually look for it there to be sure it was generated...let us know more details and then we can help you better

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Many websites use Windows Media or Flash-based video on the web-sites. There are currently no plug-ins for Flash or WMV for Safari on the iPhone or iPod touch. This may change following the release of the Software Development Kit in February 2008.

  • Advice of best export setting for HD

Hello.  I am editing with CS4 and did my first HD project.  Project setup was fine, used Sony XDcam EX native MP4 footage that was shot HQ 1440x1080i.  Didn't show red render line in PRemiere so I believe the new sequence settings are correct (XDcam HD, 1080i (60i), 1440x1080, HD anamorphic 1.333, 29.97).   In Premiere the footage looks supberb, I just had to interpret footage as HD 1080 anamorphic in the Premiere bin so it displayed to the right aspect ratio.
When I export with Media Encoder I find it looks compressed (softer) and on pans is blurs a bit with what looks like scan lines.  Motion stabilizer was shot off when I shot, so thats not the issue.  How do I get my HD project to encode to mpg2 and still retain the HD qualities.  I've tried so many setting combinations in Encoder. Here's an example:
    HDTV 1080p 29.97
    NTSC
    quality 5
    1440x1080
    29.97fps
    none (progressive)
    wide 16:9 (1.333)
    profile: main
    level: high
    bitrate: min. 8.33, target 15, max 18.5
160 MB file size (sample 1 min 30 second clip)
What is the recommended bit rate that most people can play back on their computers / DVD player?  Is it just not possible to get the quality unless you go BlueRay? What am I doing wrong?  Is encoder improved in CS5?
Or should I be recommending a different playback format to clients?
I'm lost and can't find the answers.  Thanks,
    Christine Z

    Christine,
You are getting very mixed up here or at least the language of your post is confusing.
Regardless of what flavour of HD you shoot and edit in, compressing for SD DVD involves resizing and effectively 'downrezzing' your footage so it will never look as good as HD. In PAL land where I live SD DVD is 720*576, NTSC is I believe 720*480. So to compress something to watch on a DVD player you want to be using those dimensions to begin with - there is probably a DVD preset that does that.
If, instead, you are talking about delivering to the client as some other file such as H.264, Flash or WMV then I would still down rez just to make it playback better - a 1440*1080 WMV wont play nicely on most PCs.
The settings you state below, by the way, look more like those you'd use for HD DVD or Blu-Ray.
In terms of using the Media Encoder in CS4, if it's any consolation, I've never got a decent HD to SD conversion out of it.
Finally the quality of DVD or other file playback can vary enormously depending on the monitor so check it on a couple of others and if it's a DVD, try it on a TV.
Maybe post exactly what you're trying to achieve and I'm sure others will chip in.

  • Is it risky to start a online business using quicktime player?

I am starting a business with video on the internet, but after doing my research I find that most people have the flash player on their browsers and many would have to download the 30mb+ file filling out forms etc just to view the video content on my pages. I realise that h264 video is supreme, but there is a problem if people have a hard time getting quicktime on their computers. Any advice?

It's probably a lot more work for you, but I'd offer the content in several options. Quicktime, Flash and WMV. IMO, it's important to keep QT as part of what you offer. If everyone caves to providing only Flash or WMV, then QT will continue to be the underdog.
I think the reality is that there are still more PC's than Macs out there, but it's a great statement for a site to offer QT along with the rest.

  • IMovies to Compressor

    Hey
I have never used any FCP apps but having read through what compressor can acheive i want to take advantage of compressor for the movies i create in iMovie 08 to get best quality/file size combination. My main focus for my movies (captured in HDV using Cannon Hv20) is to play it on Apple TV and also put it on my .mac gallery. I was wondering how best i should use Compressor for the scenarios below:
    1. Is it just good enough to use Export to Apple TV option in iMovie 08? or should i export to another format and then use compressor to use the Apple TV preset? Do i acheive better compression one way or the other? If compressor is a better option what format do i export out of iMovie08.
    2. For exporting movies to .mac web gallery, what format do i export out of iMovie 08 so that i can use the web videocast in compressor? I am assuming this is the best preset for this purpose.
    Thanks
    Philip

The Export to ATV is better than nothing, but it's fairly generic and doesn't offer as much control over things like bit rate, field dominance, blah, blah, blah as Compressor. For web use, it's a personal preference. I happen to like the H.264 codec, but others swear by MPEG4, MPEG1,Flash, or WMV....there are others, but these are the most popular.

  • Video won't play from playlist or album

I have 2 music videos that play fine when started from video - put if I start either of them from playlist or album they come up and don't play.
    Appeciate any assistance.

Thank you so much for getting back to me.
I've looked through the code and couldn't find any path problems as I put everything in a single folder and ftped the whole folder up.  I'm missing something though.  It works well on my home machine Off a jump drive and off the hard drive.  When I go to load it up at school it doesn't play on my school machine or after I load it up on their server.  I had an idea that I wonder if my school machine has some type of blocker on it that's not letting it play off the jump drive (which works fine on my home machine).  I've loaded it up on the server and will check it tonight on my home machine to see If its some sort of school blocking thing.  Other than that I'm stumped.

  • Dynamic Linking Doesn't Renew

I use AME exstensively, normally no issues (lot's of FLash, MPEGs, WMV from various sources).
There is one little thing that seems to crop up when  I'm using a dynamic link from AE or PrP.
Once a sequence of comp is linked and I make a change in the original file and then go back to AME the old file content is cached abnd doesn't change. I can remove the file from the queue and replace it but the old content is still there.
If I shut down AME and then reload the link again in the new istance, the new file content is there.
AM I missing something here? Or is there a caching bug bitting me.

    Jim:
Thanks for the thoughts. I understand your answer and we're missing the mark here.  Let me explain:
Step one: Load a sequence or comp in a dynamic link.
Step two: Discover an error. Stop rendering (Let's say a misspelled title).
Step Three: Go back to AE or PrP and make correction.
Step Four: Go back to AME and reload , not duplicate, the repaired file.  However the repaired file is not what reloads. You will get the same earlier version that need the fix.  So,
Step Five: Close AME, reopen and load the file in question again.  This will show the fresh file and rending can begin again.
I understand reloading the repaired file, but I shouldn't have to shut down AME to reload a dynamically linked file.
If I am in AE or Premiere or even Encore,  and I change an outside file such as a PSD or other file, the version loads on refresh (or sooner) as it should be.
I'm running a 64 bit platform here with Cuda graphics, and plenty of memory on a machine that only has Creative suite installed, nothing else.
      Back to you
