Flash transparency in Linux Firefox
I have develped a site where the html is split
with<div> separators.
One of the divisions contains a flash animation with a
transparent backgroud and a z index lower than the text that should
be visible over the animation.
This works on all platforms except for firefox on linux
machines.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to why this doesn't
work?
Thanks in advance.

Why can't I find Adobe Flash Player for Linux/Firefox 4
I can't figure out how to get Adobe Flash or Shockwave player for Firefox 4. Running Ubuntu 10.04 and when I try to find them in add-ins for FF4 there seems to be nothing. I am not the world's most experienced Linux guy but since Flash and Shockwave are so common it seems curious that they don't have them as add-ins for FF4. Maybe I'm just so far off track on this one it may be the dumbest question anyone has ever asked. But what the heck, you never know the answer if you don't ask the question.
Thanks! There is no flash player for the iphone and Adobe would be the one to develop one, not Apple. And there are no plugins to install instead, as far as I know.

Ubuntu 10.045 (Linux) and Firefox 3.6.3 ~ How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in & ActiveX control
In general Adobe needs to offer Ubuntu (Linux) support. I don't use Windows anymore and will go with whatever company provides me the Plug In's I need to function. In this case at the current time, I can't use Adobe flash Player to view You Tube video's. I followed the link that helps a user fix the problem:
Solve a Problem: The video won't play:
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=56115
I then saw that you suggested that I first needed to uninstall any older versions of the Flash Player and then install the latest version of the Flash player. I clicked on the link find out how to uninstall it here:
How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
They didn't offer any help with Ubuntu 10.045 (Linux). Please offer the instructions and automatic (non-terminal) uninstaller. Also, I want an automatic installer for Ubuntu 10 (Linux) & Firefox 3.6 that is easy like like you have for Windows and like Sun's Java has for Linux.
Message was edited by: u2rcrazy ~ Edited TitleYou should go to this site to see what versions of Flash Player and Shockwave Player you have installed.
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
The versions you are listing (10.0 r12, 10.0 r2) appear to be Shockwave Plauer versions, not Flash Player.
If you want to uninstall Flash Player, there should be an uninstaller in the install directory. I do not know where that is on Linux. -
I don't see any plugin support on installing Linux Firefox 8 tar.bz2 package. I've tried symlinking libnpjp2.so and libflashplayer.so to the isntall directory but Firefox doesn't seem to recognize those. I don't find any mention of disabling plugin support (Java and Flash specifically) on Firefox 8 release notes. Is anybody else facing this issue?
Thanks. Creating a "plugins' directory inside the profile directory, and putting symlinks to plugin files inside the directory solved the problem

I installed the Flash 9 for Linux, and it works!
I'm using Firefox. The first time I fire up Firefox, it's at
Flash version 9 and works perfectly. But when I close Firefox, the
next time it drops back to Flash 7. Does anyone know a fix?
Normally I use Flash under WinTel, but I wanted to experiment a
little. It works great, except I have to install it again after I
close the Firefox browser, because the browser always reverts back
to version 7.
Thanks.Okay, I found an answer to my own question. ;-) Download the
Adobe Flash plugin. gunzip/tar it. Instead of running the
installer, just copy flashplayer.xpt to path of
/opt/firefox/components/ and copy libflashplayer.so to
/opt/firefox/plugins/. Change /opt/ to wherever Firefox is. Perhaps
the error happened due to permissions, or something like that, but
there was no error message; rather it worked the first time, until
you closed and restarted your web browser. -
hi all
how r u?
i develope an application in flex and i want to run it on linux
i installed flash player 10 on firefox on linux and everything works good but in english
my application is multilanguage after changing the language to arabic everything become Confused
the letters in arabic become from left to right and seperated, and when i tried to write any arabic letters it wrote strange things
are there any solutions for this problem??
thank you for allIt looks like others have had similar problems before and there are some similar threads. According to BWolfe [ADOBE] in another thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/249609#249609):
Currently -no- Flash Player on any platform natively supports any Right-to-Left language (RTL). If you search google you'll find some folks doing fairly complicated workarounds.
It's an area long in need of improvement, and I hope we address it in the future.

Problem with Adobe Flash Preferences on Linux
Using Mozilla Firefox as my default browser, when I open up the Adobe Flash Preferences App from the Linux menu, and check (Advanced)(Updates) and click on the (Check Now) button.
This action used to open up a new tab on Firefox, when it was already open, and go to the appropriate page at adobe.com to check my flash version.
When Firefox was not already open it would launch Firefox and go to the appropriate page at adobe.com and check my flash version.
Now, it launches a new instance of Firefox to a blank page.
This used to work, about 6-8 months ago, and is the cause of a lot of frustration now, since I have to go to adobe.com and do a search for the page that displays my version and then see if that version is the latest available.
Flash Version: 11.2.202.291
OS Version: Debian Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (32-bit)
Browser: Mozilla Firefox 23.0It sounds as though you already downloaded and installed the plugin as described in this article: [[How do I watch Flash videos with Firefox for Android?]]
I look for a thread about the Note 4 and found confirmation that it "should" work here: [http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4/450745-note-4-adobe-flashplayer.html Note 4 Adobe Flashplayer - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com].
However, I don't have that device so you might try that forum if you can't get it working. -
Security updates for 11.2 Flash Player for Linux?
When attempting to download an update for 11.2 Flash Player for Linux, I saw the note saying that there would be no new development, but security backfixes would continue to be released. I've seen the security warnings for months on my Linux install in Firefox (which is updated) but there does not seem to be a security patch that would stop these "Allow - Continue Blocking" warnings for Flash Player.
When can we expect these to be completed? Linux users may not comprise a large portion of your user base, but the alternatives are extremely expensive hardware and/or software if you want to use an Apple or Microsoft product.I chose "Yum for Linux" and the file that was downloaded was:
adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm
I see now that if I select the "rpm for Other Linux" it downloads the flash-player rpm complete with the version info, so perhaps the Yum version is a wrapper. I assumed that since Fedora (and Redhat/etc) uses yum, that I should download the YUM version... in order for it to take effect, I had to perform the following commands after downloading the above rpm:
sudo yum remove adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch
sudo yum localinstall adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm
sudo rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux
sudo yum -y install flash-plugin
That allowed me to get the newer version of Flash player to show (and no longer receive the security warnings) but it seems if I had used the Other for Linux download that I wouldn't have had to take those extra steps. I guess we'll find out when the next security update to flash player is released.
Thanks,

Way to Upgrade Memory for Flash Plugin (v11) for Firefox (v10)?
Hello!
I've been searching far and wide for an answer to this to no avail, so I'm hoping someone here can help me. As a part of my position at work, I am trying to work with a web-based Flash application connected to a Java back-end server. The data being rendered on the Flash side is very large and expansive, with many containers/layers involved. Since the processing seems to stall, then eventually crash the Flash Plugin in Firefox, is there any way to bump up the memory assigned to the Flash Plugin from within Firefox? I did see that the memory allocation is controlled by the browser, not the Flash Plugin, but I have been unable to find any place that describes how to accomplish this memory adjustment within firefox for flash plugin at all.
Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Firefox for me has been fine for the past couple of years or so. Then all of a sudden about 5 months ago, everytime i would use Firefox it would crash after browsing for about 1 minute. I uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times to no avail. I then got sick of the problem and then used IE till now.
However, i heard about Firefox 4 and thought maybe this would fix it. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred! I then heard about being able to start Firefox with add-ons disabled to find any sources of problems, and i've found that the cause if Flash! It is the newest version and always has been, so i don't know what i can do, since Flash is important for most websites nowadays!?Could you please do the following.
Download the following two files and save to your desktop. These are direct download links so you'll only see the dialog boxes which looks like the ones you see in the screenshot.
* [http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe uninstall_flash_player.exe]
* [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe install_flash_player.exe]
Next, close Firefox via File | Exit (''it's important that you do it this way and not just by clicking the close button'')
Next, double click the '''uninstall_flash_player.exe '''file you downloaded earlier and then '''reboot'''. A reboot is necessary to remove the setting from the Windows Registry.
Next, double click the '''install_flash_player.exe''' file to reinstall Flash.
Finally, restart Firefox and see if it made any difference. -

Flash player freezes in Firefox
Flash player is causing Firefox to freeze for about 30 seconds whenever I access a website which uses flash.
I am using the latest version of Firefox (v19.0.2) and the latest version of Adobe Flash (v11.6.602.171). This same problem has existing for at least the last 5 versions released by Firefox and Adobe Flash Player. My OS is Win7 64-bit.
I am 100% certain that flash is the source of the Firefox freezing problem because I can cause the Firefox freezing to stop and start again by disabling and enabling the Adobe Flash plugin. In order for me to make Firefox usable, I always disable the Adobe Flash plugin.
I have read on the web that many other Firefox users in the Win7 environment have the same problem that Firefox freezes when Adobe Flash is installed and enabled. There are many reports that the freezing in Firefox can be solved by disabling protected mode in Adobe Flash.
Unfortunately, the method available for disabling protected mode will not work for myself or anyone else that works on computers issued and supported by my Fortune 500 company. The method of adding a line to the mms.cfg file requires users to have admin rights to editing files in the \windows\system32 directory structure. The company I work for has all computers without such admin privileges. Since there is no alternate for disabling protected mode, myself and all 4000 of my colleagues have no options for fixing this freezing problem.
Can you please solve this issue by either 1) working with Firefox so that the browser will no longer freeze when Adobe Flash player is installed, enabled, and protected mode is enabled, or 2) make protected mode a configurable feature that can be enabled or disabled by any user group in Windows Control Panel.
Thanks in advance for you consideration,
jlavie5555Hi jlavie5555,
I'm sorry you're encountering these pauses. We work very closely with Mozilla and have been hard at work trying to solve all related protected mode issues since this security feature was released. We do have a few additional troubleshooting steps you might want to consider taking (in addition to disabling protected mode.) Please see this faq for details:
How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
We also have a new 11.7 beta available that contains significant changes to improve protected mode. I suspect you might be blocked from installing it, but if this option is available to you I would recommend giving it a try.
