Flash Troubleshooting in IE

I've been having a problem with Flash for a couple of months,
and I'm interested in straightening this out. I'm running XP Home
SP2, and IE6.
Often, when browsing, I come across a link to a Flash
application (are they called "applications"?). When I try to open
the link, I get a window that reads somehting like, "It appears
that you do not have the version of Macromedia Flash that is
required to view this page. You must have at least version 6 for
this page to function correctly."
I will click the "Get Flash" link in that window. It brings
me to the adobe/flash page. I click on the "install now" button and
I see the "Successfully installed" animation. I go back to the
original site and reclick the link and the same darn window opens
saying that Flash isn't installed.
Is there a setting in IE that is overriding the install or
something? In IE Tools/Internet Options/Programs tab, I can see
that Shockware Flash Object in installed (flash8a.ocx) and enabled.
All of the applications listed here are enabled. This is
frustrating...
Anyway, I appreciate your help. Thanks.

Well, tickles, we may be on our own...
I found these two links, but I don't know to use this info.
I've been having some ActiveX problems recently as well, so that is
why I think this might be the direction I will look. I'll check
back here in a day or so to see if anyone else might guide us.

Internet utilities blocking ActiveX
Some Internet Utilities, such as Norton Internet Utilities,
perform functions similar to a firewall and may restrict viewing of
ActiveX controls. You need to ensure that your firewall or utility
settings are set to allow ActiveX controls or you will not be able
to view Flash movies in Internet Explorer.

Flash Player disabled
When browsing to a page that contains a Macromedia Flash
Player movie, Internet Explorer may block this content
automatically, depending on each user's security settings. If the
Flash ActiveX control has been disabled, you will see the "Add-on
Disabled" icon in the right corner of the Internet Explorer status
bar (looks like a gear with an exclamation point in front of it).
For details on managing add-ons in Internet Explorer, refer to
Flash Player content does not appear after a Windows Update

Thanks in advance, all you do-gooders that may help...

  • Flash will not let me downgrade to version 10 because it says it is not the most up to date, but the 11 will not work on my computer

I had Adobe FLASH 11 but it did not play any videos, so I was prompted to download the version before it (10.) but it will not let me download it since it is not the latest/most current version of the program. How do I get a version that will actually work?

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later

  • Embedded Flash videos don't work

Since updating Firefox to 36, embedded Flash videos don't work. HTML5 and Flash videos on YouTube work fine. I have Click-To-Play enabled (disabling it didn't help too), but instead of a grey area with the message I just see a black area where the video is supposed to be. Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Flash videos don't work with PepperFlash disabled (but with system plugin enabled) on Chrome!

    Hello everyone,
Basically, Google Chrome lags a lot when I use PepperFlash and so I have heard that disabling it and using the system flash will have better performance. I have done this but when I disable PepperFlash, the flash videos don't work as it says flash player has crashed. Also, I would like to resolve the lag and bad performance with flash videos on chrome because the video playback on Internet Explorer is a lot better than Chrome(Never thought I would have to say that) atm. A possible solution might be to install 32-Bit Chrome instead
    Summary:
Flash videos lag(most likely due to PepperFlash being used according to other people)
When PepperFlash is disabled, the system flash plugin does not work in chrome as it apparently crashes every time.
I would like help on how to resolve the bad performance and be able to use the system flash plugin to have no lag on videos and livestreams.
    Thanks,

  • I still cannot view flash players in firefox after uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and flash multiple times. how do i fix this issue perminantly?

I can go into chrome without any issues and watch any video without any problem. the second i get into firefox nothing works. i have had this issue on and off for years. i really do not see why you cannot fix this if everybody else can. i have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and flash player multiple times. nothing seems to work. I am truly getting really tired of this same problem year after year, i stay with firefox because you are privacy conscience and are being more so consistently. i do not know what other details to tell you other than this just keeps happening and it is making it very tough to do anything on firefox when i cannot use a simple thing such as flash player. as i said, if the other browsers can fix this i see no reason why firefox cannot year after year. i hope there is a simple fix for this problem because it has basically halted a lot of my work on the net as i will no longer use google or microsoft. thank you

  • Adobe flash issues with both IE6 and Firefox

I just installed adobe flash 9 on my win2k computer. When I
try to go to www.yourminis.com I get two different results, in IE6
I start to get a web page, but then IE freezes. In Firefox, I get a
big blue quicktime Q the blinks a bit, then a question mark
superimposes over the Q and nothing else happens.
I also cannot view this page under Firefox in Freespire
Linux, but there, it tells me I don't have a new enough version of
Flash Player, but I downloaded and installed the newest version
available for Linux, and I tried both the normal automatic install
and the manual install (which was a pain in the butt because
Freespire has no admin log in, and you have to do all your copying
of files from a command line using the sudo command...)
Why is this happening? I even have an issue with flash and
the yahoo home page, in IE6 it works fine, but in Firefox, where
you normally see the yahoo logo at the top of the page, instead you
see the big blue Quicktime Q and then the question mark, and the
yahoo logo never comes up (this isn't a big issue, I don't need to
see the animated yahoo logo, but since Firefox is doing the same
thing on www.yourminis as it is with the Yahoo logo animation, I
    thought it might be significant)
I even disabled ALL file types in Quicktime's settings except
Quicktime Movies format, because QT won';t LET me disable that one.
    Still having the same problems.
Oh, and all this is happening under Administrative User, with
full priveledges in Win2k, so don't tell me I need to be admin or
    something like that.

  • Flash Player Crash

I have Firefox 28.0 with Flash Player 13.0.0.182. The Flash Player crashes on every page with Player content rendering the browser unusable, as well. It's very annoying re-opening Ffox dozens times a day, so, I'd be very glad of any assistance. The "mms.cfg" operation (ProtectedMode=0) I've already done with no help at all.

Did you try to disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin and in Firefox?

  • Firefox Lags Like Hell with Flash

    Ok, here's the deal.
After long use Firefox starts to lag like crazy with Flash. And... It doesn't seem to be a problem with Flash. It's more likely that the browser itself what is causing the issue.
After I use Firefox for some time Flash starts lagging badly. BUT! This happens only if I have my Firefox window active. If I open the Task Manager on top of Firefox window, Flash stops lagging as if Harry Porter himself cast a spell with his magic stick making everything work like a charm.
I made a small video showcasing the bug: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l2c5pbn1xwy58dc/12-11-2012%2019-07-15.avi
    - The bug still appears even in Safe Mode (all addons disabled).
    - With hardware acceleration disabled in Flash bug still remains.
    - With Chrome and other browsers everything works fine.
    - The bug will go away after restart - and then will start to appear after Firefox is in use for some time.
    - Normally it re-appears after I close my laptop's lid forcing it to go to sleep mode. After it wakes up - the bug is there.
    - There was no such a bug in the past - it started to appear as new Firefox versions were released - don't know the exact version but I assume it all started from version 14 or 15.
    Any thoughts?

Did you try to disable protected mode in the Flash plugin?

  • Firefox 16.0.1 Crashes, Not Responding with Unresponsive Script Warnings and Adobe Flash Plugin Crashes

    Hello,
I'm experiencing some issues with Firefox 16.0.1 which I had also experienced with Firefox 15.0.1.
On numerous occasions Firefox has crashed while attempting to access a website link contained in an AOL e-mail message.
Unrelated to that issue, Firefox has hung up frequently with associated unresponsive script warnings and occasionally with the Adobe Flash Plugin crashing. Some of the unresponsive script warnings are:

I heard Adobe will release a new version of Flash designed for animators? Is this true? Here in the studio we still use Flash CS3. In CS4 there are files that take 30 minutes to open.
