Flash update makes .swf file unclickable in Firefox

I just got a new computer and installed the Flash plugin
9,0,115,0. This now causes part of my website to not function
properly in Firefox. I have confirmed this is the cause because my
old computer was using 9,0,45,0, which I then upgraded to 115,0. It
has caused the same problem.
My site is www.rogerspublishing.ca. I also have a restricted
access subdomain (xyz.rogerspublishing.ca) on that site. Both use
the identical flash files in the left nav to allow the user to
navigate to other pages by clicking. Although the swf
displays fine, in Firefox, when you click, nothing happens
if you are in the xyz subdomain portion of the site.
So within the www, I can navigate using the swf (all the
links within it point to www.). Within the xyz subdomain, the
identical swf (all of which links point to www.) is unclickable.
I am especially concerned when Flash pushes this new release
out to users -- it will render all Firefox users useless on my
secure subdomain site.
Can anyone make any recommendations??

It hangs on my system too, so I'd say the problem is in the site or the swf, and definitely not in FF, Safari, or Flashplayer.

Adobe Flash update only saves file, how to activate it?

After receiving message from Firefox that I should download the Adobe Flash updater, I tried to complete this action. The only popup I get after I select this option is to Save the File or Cancel the action. After I save the file, nothing happens. How do I install Adobe Flash Update 10?

Make sure Firefox is closed. Then double-click on the Flash_setup file that you saved to start the installation.

Flash CS5.5, SWF file doesn't load TLF text.

I just downloaded the trial version of Flash 5.5. I was trying to a tutorial from Adobe Classroom in a Book: Flash Professional CS5. I was trying to do lesson 7 which is all about TLF text.
In the tutorial, you insert text that is TLF text. Most of the text doesn't do anything (it's Read-Only). But there is one area that is supposed to be a Mortgage Calcualtor and functions with ActionScript.
I inserted the ActionScript that makes the Mortgage Calculator text do the proper math. My problem happens when I try to test the movie: the SWF file doesn't display any of the TLF text, and the Output panel gives me the following:
ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable TLFTextField is not defined.
ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable TCMText is not defined.
I am confused because there aren't any variables with those names in any of the files of the tutorial, or in the ActionScript I entered. Where is Flash getting those variable names from? O_o
I even turned the text back into Classic text to see if that helped, but I still get the error. Could this be a glitch with Flash 5.5?

That file has all the menu items in it.
A crossdomain file is use as a security measure. Perhaps I see it because I use a webpage on my own server to display your SWF file. Check to see if that's the case with you.
But I gave it another try.
I downloaded the menu.swf and the xml file and stored them in a folder. I use a custom webpage and stored that in the same folder.
Instead of the full URL is simply use the filename.

That works.
When I paste the <object> code in the HTML Snippet and use relative URLs to the menu in the folder mentioned above, I noticed that the XMLHorizontalMenu.xml is expected to be in the Pagename_files folder. That folder belongs to the iWeb pages it is embedded in. When I put the xml file there, the menu works.
You have to check the design of the menu.swf file.
Otherwise, store all files in a separate folder and use a <iframe> to embed it.

How do you update an .SWF file with Javascript

Hello - I have this Flash map that I've created. It uses
javascript calls from within Flash to swap out hidden DIVS when a
user clicks on a county. When the user clicks on the zip code
region of that map, a javascript triggers the check box.
What I need to do now is to have a way that when a user
unclicks the check box, the zip code region in the map will be
unhighlighted. Essentially, I need to have javascript tell a movie
clip within the .SWF file to goto a certain frame and stop.
I've never done this before, so I'm seeking someone's wisdom
on how to proceed with this.

Firefox crashed after flash update last night.tried to uninstall firefox and it crashed during uninstall.now when I try to reinstall firefox 8 it locks up on do a little housekeeping screen in set up. what do I do next?

this is not the first time I have had flash updates corupt my firefox, but this time I was unable to reinstall firefox. I am running windows XP Home service pack 3. AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+ 2.21 GHZ with 3.25GB ram.

Is the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) still there?
If so then try to delete that folder.

When loaded in an internet browser, a Captivate 2 exported flash player 8(.swf) file doesn't pause when it should

I have made tutorials using Captivate 2 and exported them as
an .swf file. When played in Flash Player 8, when previewed in
Captivate 2, and when loaded in an internet explorer, it doesn't
pause at each slide like I have programmed it to do in Captivate 2.
I have put buttons in each slide and make them pause the slide
until the viewer clicks on it an tells it to move on. It randomly
doesn't pause and continues on to the next slide. It sometimes
works and sometimes doesn't work. It's not consistently one slide
and not another. It is random. Does anyone have a clue what is
wrong?

Thank you for pointing out that I need to download the projector. How do I ensure that every time I double click on a swf file, it does not launch Adobe Flash Professional, but instead, it launches Flash Player ver 14. Do I have to place the Flash Player Projector in the library or applications, where exactly should it be placed.
Next, when I launched Flash Player ver 14, to open the swf file, I clicked on a button that is linked to a website - I get a message:
"Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation,... To let this application communicate with the Internet, click on settings" I clicked on settings and get the attached panel, which does not make sense to me. And I cannot launch a website by clicking on the button contained in the swf file. Please advise.

Flash player shows swf file but no control bar

I have a product by IMTOO.com that converts AVI files to SWF files. I used it, and I also specified that I wanted the final file to be small. The final file plays OK in flashplayer 10, but the control bar is all black. You don't see any controls on it such as 'play', 'pause' and 'maximize'.
Now there is a menu you can get by right-clicking on the movie. That gives you 'play' and 'pause', but not maximize.
My question is, why is this happening. Why can't I see controls on the control bar, and why can't I maximize at all, even with the right-click menu?

Hi, Use this Adobe test site to see if you can see the animation and what version of Flash Player is shown.
Test with each browser.

You should also check in Tools, manage add ons with IE and under "Show"(light text), click on All Add ons or Run without Permission to make sure Shockwave Flash Object is listed and Enabled.
Then with FF, check in Plugins for the Shockwave Flash vs 10.1.82.76(the latest Flash Player vs) and make sure it is Enabled.
Let me know the results of the test and the add on info.

Cannot publish Flash Updates Verification of file signature failed for file SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2 and WSUS all on same Windows Server 2012 machine

I am attempting to distribute Adobe Flash updates using SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2, WSUS ver4 and Windows Server 2012. Everything installs without error. I have acquired a certificate for SCUP signing from the internal Enterprise CA. I have
verified the signing certificate has a 1024 bit key. I have imported the certificate into the server's Trusted Publishers and Trusted Root CA stores for the computer. When I attempt to publish a Flash update with Full content I receive the following
error:

This is embarrassing, I used that very post as my guide when deploying my certificate templates, but failed to change the bit length to 2048. Thank you for being my second set of eyes.
I changed my certificate key bit length to 2048, deleted the old cert from all certificate stores, acquired the a new signing cert, verified the key length was 2048, exported the new cert to pfx and cer files, imported into my Trusted publishers
and Trusted Root Authorities stores, reconfigured SCUP to use the new pfx file, rebooted the server and attempted to re-publish the updates with the following results:

No Flash updates in the ConfigMgr console are marked as downloaded. I can't find any documentation on how the process of using SCUP for downloading content for an update marked Metadata Only actually works.

Flash .exe or swf files will not play on Vista

I decided to learn how to create captions for flash video,
using CS3. I tested this project and it worked fine. I could just
double-click on the app or the swf and the captioned video played
fine on my Mac. I only had Flash (CS3) on my Mac, so I created the
files there.
I then published an exe to move over to my Vista machine.
When I double-clicked on the file, it brought up Flash Media Player
version 9, but only showed a blank white box. Very frustrating.
After some research, I read that Windows Vista was not
compatible with Flash Media Player 9. Only 10.02xxx or later (I
forget the exact version - it was long) was supposed to work with
Vista. Since CS3 uses version 9 to pack into the executable (PC) or
app (Mac) projector files, I thought maybe this was the problem.
So I downloaded the demo of Flash CS4, thinking this version
would pack version 10 into the projector and this would solve my
problem.
While the CS3 version of my saved flash video project would
open in Flash CS4, it would not play when I tested the movie inside
Flash CS4. It would just show a skin at the bottom of the video
player only (with a play/pause button), and it had moving blue bars
on the skin like it couldn't really load either.
I then decided to create the whole flash video with captions
from scratch under Flash CS4. This time when I tested the movie in
Vista, it worked fine. When I published either the projector exe or
the html/swf combination, it worked fine. So proudly (and finally!)
I sent the exe over to my boss. But..... you guessed it. The Flash
Media Player 10 that started up when the file was double-clicked
just showed a blank white screen again!
So then I moved the exe over to another partition to test to
see if there was some dependent directory pathway saved as part of
the flash video file. The exe wouldn't play on the other partition!
So I thought I was onto something. I then tried moving files that I
thought the exe might be dependent on (although isn't the point of
a projector to be stand alone?) to the same directory on this
partition as the flash exe projector file.
I ended up moving the captions.xml file, the swf files (flash
video player skins included), and the html file that the swf file
is supposed to be embedded in. NOTHING worked.
I even read that someone with this problem saved his Flash
CS4 file as a Flash CS3 file before he published it, and that
worked for him. So I tried that too, but with no joy.
So I am totally stumped. Does anyone out there have advice or
even a solution?

Dynamic update of swf file

Hi,
In an excel sheet I've connected to an SQL server table through 'Import Data' functionality. This excel has been used to create a dashboard in Xcelsius. Whenever the backend data is changed, the excel and the dashboard in Xcelsius is getting updated.
Is there any way to dynamically update the dashboard in the generated swf file also whenever the backend data is changed?

Have a Refresh component in your dashboard and set to refresh the connection in the properties...
So when ever you click Refresh button...it will refresh your connection and get the latest data in your dashboard.

Why does swf file reposition in Firefox?

The swf file on my index page looks OK in IE, but changes position in Firefox. This is my first CSS-from-scratch site. It can be viewed here: http://www.foreseesonusa.com/testing2012site/index.html

I'm seeing a number of things that I would suggest you change.
First, you are using position:absolute for general page layout... this is often a cause of page display errors. Rarely if ever is it necessary to use any type of declared position.
Second, you have a declared height of 501px for #center... again, rarely do you need to declare a height... just let the content fill it up.
Third, while you seem to have included enough height in #center for the .swf <object>, yet you did not include that <object> in #center, instead leaving it out of #center and sloshing around in #content.
To clarify this last point, view the <object> in Firebug.
Including the <object> in #center may help, but you still should get rid of all the declared positioning.

I have a .swf file that I'am trying to open but it seems that I can't. Is there any way that I can use Flash Player to do so?
The .swf I'm trying to open is a game, when i right-click on it and i click on Open With, I don't see Flash Player as one of the options.

There IS a standalone Flash Player but is's part of Flash Professional. You'd need to purchase it (or download a 30 day trial, but I don't know if the Flash Player would keep working after the trial expires).

Adobe Flash CS5 generating SWF file size more then fla file?

I have developed a video player in adobe flash cs4 and used all vector arts but when I open this fla file in Adobe Flash CS5 and published it, the swf file size more then fla file.

Creating a flash gallery for swf files

is there a template out there for a flash gallery to display other swf files?
Like an image gallery, but instead of images, they are swf files (some could be interactive as well).

You may have to do your own searching for such a template, but you should be able to convert an image version into an swf version without too much modification. If you are loading the files dynamically the same commands would be used. You may just need to mask the area for displaying the swf's since their stages will not define their boundariies when they are loaded into another swf.
