Flash version detection with Captivate published files?

Doe sanyone know if the Captivate publishes their HTML file
that includes a flash detector of the user's system when they first
attempt to activate a piece of Cpativate content.?
I have a customer who wants to know how (most automatic )
method to have their Captivate contnet viewers systmes checked for
the approriate Flash player and feedback message to alert them tof
the need and how to download.

Hi jonturkle
I'm going to crawl way out here on this shaky little limb and
say that this is factored into the mix. I say that because I
recently saw a post where someone needed to output Captivate in
Flash 6 format. Captivate 3 outputs in Flash 7 format as a minimum.
They were saying that when they attempted to run the Captivate
files, the users were being prompted to install a newer version of
the Flash player.

If you want to switch from PC to Apple I recommend a programm like Parallels.
It has a tool (believe its called transporter) which runs on your current PC and creates a file (big) which is a "virual machine". It is a 1:1 copy of your PC which will run under parallels on your iMac.
You will be running your "old" PC as it was under MAC OS X while you run MAC applikations etc at the same time.
This is how I made the transition to Apple.

  • Flash version detection question

I understand how to set the Flash player version when I
publish my Flash movie. But what is not clear in the book I'm
studying is when I upload the .swf file in my html page
(index.html) to my server, do I need to upload the html version of
my Flash file (when I published)? Or do the version detection
settings automatically get stored in the swf? In other words, if I
    have 2 files -- movie.swf (which is in my index.html page) &
movie.html (which was published in Flash as well), do both need to
be uploaded? Or will the .swf file in my index.html page pickup the
    visitors Flash version?
    Thanks in advance!
    Bernie C

The detection scripts are in the HTML (and probably an
external JS file). You don't HAVE to use the HTML file generated by
Flash, but you probably want to take a look at it and move some of
the code over to your index.html page. Don't forget to upload the
JS file if one is called as well.
    Hope that helps!

  • Connect Sync not working with Captivate SWF files

    HI
I'm creating material for presentations and discussion in Captivate 8 and using Connect 9.3.
The Sync button in Connect doesn't turn on or off the sync view for all participants for a presentation sharing the Captivate SWF file....
Any ideas on how to get the sync feature working?
PS: I'm using Captivate to create the slides and publish to SWF in order to preserve the fonts for the brand. Uploading Powerpoint changes the fonts to system defaults (looks very bad) and PDF, provides a clunky or abrupt slide transitions (using captivate fade transitions). Would prefer a better solution to maintain fonts and transitions though.
    Cheers,
    Fred

    Going to give a try...
I did try saving each slide as an image from ppt, then created a new slide deck with one image per slide - added transitions and uploaded to Connect. That seemed to work.... yet, really would like to sort out Captivate as I plan on adding quizzes and other items best done with Captivate.
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • Flash Video not playing in Published file

I published the files. I then click the "view ouput" button.
I am able to see the video playing locally. However, when I copy
all the contents in the publish folder (.htm, .swf, .flv, etc.) to
my web server, the flash video does not play. The rest of the .swf
    animation plays, just no video.
I do see a security message
I did choose progressive download and selected Flash version
    as Flash Player 8.

Putting all fonts in the trash except for arial
    Pulling out my hair

Seems like new files publish fine but older files crash, also modified older files crash. If I create new files and paste in elements from older files it also crashes. Please help our business rep is at stake.

Make sure you update to Flash 10.0.2 - it may be a performance/memory usage issue on publish of the older files.

  • Controlling autoupdate of Adobe Flash Player ActiveX with mms.cfg file

For several years we have suppressed Flash Player ActiveX from autoupdating by using the mms.cfg file, with the setting "AutoUpdateDisable=1" -- and it has worked without a problem.
With the constant updates of Flash Player for security reasons, we decided several months ago to change the autoupdate setting and allow Flash Player ActiveX to update automatically, without notifying the user, checking every seven days.  We changed the mms.cfg file to this:
    AutoUpdateDisable=0
    AutoUpdateInterval=7
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
We are using Windows 7 64-bit, so the mms.cfg file was copied/updated to: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash, as well as C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
The problem we are randomly seeing across our 2500+ computers is a notification that a Flash Player update is available.  This is occurring on machines with the mms.cfg file in place.
Does anyone else have this same issue?  We were also wondering if the encoding of the file, i.e., ANSI or UTF-8, has any bearing on the effectiveness of this mms.cfg file. Or has a registry setting been updated overriding the mms.cfg?
We believe the file is encoded in UTF-8, but it is difficult to be 100% certain of this.
    Screenshot of the auto-update notification:

  • Using flash 8 pro with captivate

    Hi, All:
I understand how to import a raw captivate file into Flash 8.
Can I then export what I've imported as an .flv file?
Cant find an answer to this question.
    Thanks,

    Hi C.
Um, perhaps I'm just being dense here, but did you actually
try? If not, why not? If so, did it not work? I guess you
may have tried and it failed, hence the reason for your post. But
if not, I'm totally astounded that one would simply ask if
something was possible before even trying. Why cheat yourself out

  • Autovue 19.3 Web version - Issues with seeing CAD files & image generation

We recently upgraded to AutoVue 19.3 and face the following 2 issues
    1. When using the AutoVue applet with the latest JDK 6 update 17, we are unable to see any images in the applet. We were able to see images after downgrading to JDK 6 update 11.
    2. AutoVue is also being used to generate isometric (top, down, left, right, front, back) which are used in related reports. This feature is also not working with version 19.3
    Any help will be appreciated
    Regards

This is most likely due to a known bug in the Sun JRE, as discussed in Oracle KM Note 755555.1. There are a couple of alternatives you could try rather than downgrading your client JRE:
    1. Disable the optimized rendering option in AutoVue client.
    a. Go to the applet menu item Options -> Configuration -> 3D.
    b. Uncheck option "Enable Optimized Rendering (requires restart)".
    c. Restart the AutoVue applet.
    2. Use a special API command from Sun to disable the mixing of lightweight / heavyweight modes in the JVM. This behavior can be disabled with a runtime parameter until it is incorporated into the actual AutoVue applet in a future release. To do this you need to:
    a. Open the Java Control Panel. (In Windows go to Start -> Control Panel -> Java)
    b. Go to the "Java" tab
    c. Select the "View" button under "Java Runtime Environment Settings"
    d. Add the following runtime parameter on the line for product 1.6.0_14: -Dsun.awt.disableMixing=true
    e. Click OK and OK
    f. Launch a new browser window and test viewing a 3D file again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Captivate 5.5 published files are not visible in Fire Fox or open in new window.

When I publish and post Captivate 5.5, the HTML or the swf files do not display in Fire Fox (latest version) without forcing the file to open in a new window (if it displays at all). If it does work, the Flash security blocks the swf on an ugly view until the user clicks.
I thought it was because I have to assign a direct URL to each component, but all of the other Captivate sites I have reviewed have the same issue when viewing in Fire Fox.
IE will display after the active x is authorized (I can live with that).
You Tube and other Flash display properly in Fire Fox, just not Captivate products.
I have disabled off all plugins, modified the protected settings, and everything I could find listed in the Fire Fox help. I have installed a previous version of Flash and Shockwave Player. Short of reinstalling windows, it is not working and that will not help because the published content is not visible on any other machine in the office or at home.
The files are in a Portal, so I cannot share them unless you are in the DoD and have an AKO or DKO account.
However, here is another example of the Captivate not working.
https://clc.dau.mil/games (this displays on some computers, but not all)
http://www.hartisd.net/pages/uploaded_files/Assignment_Search.mht (After allowing the mht, this displays in IE)
I am not sure if it has something to do with the other 2 published xml files that are not directly referenced in the html, but I just need either the swf or html to display in the iframe without forcing another window to display and without a lot of dependecy issues with other add-ons in Fire Fox.
    - Thanks!

Any of the DAU games, if they display. It is a government site, so they have the standard gov garbage (stuff not working like certificates), but nothing is harmful nor can they do anything to track other than the current session.
It is kind of weird how the content is displayed... It is not an intranet, it goes to a limited access portal. When I store content, it uses an absolute path instead of relative path. Very aggrevating when using many of the tools for non-programmers (like me), and probably more aggrevating for programmers.
Whether I point directly to the .swf or to the generated HTML, the content displays in IE, but not in FF.
It may be a combination of FF and Captivate. FF seems rather flaky in dealing with swf files. There is the consideration for add-ons, but I tried on a newly imaged computer and it still was not working. Even after going through all of the FF steps to get it to work.
Basically we had to create a new HTML file to display the content because the Captivate published files don't work. However, the new HTML does not reference the XML files.
When I publish, I get 5 different files, .swf, .htm, .js, and 2 .xml. When I dig through the code (once again, not a programmer, soo I may be missing something), even round tripping to Flash, I do not see how the .xml files are referenced at all.
These may be different topics, not sure, it came up because I am trying to get a simple solution from the product that can be easily transferred to our production servers and available for Solders to access.
    - Thanks
    Michael

  • Downloading Captivate generated files

    Hello,
My organization would like to make our training content
available to users for downloading to their local machines. How can
I make this possible, considering our training website publishes
links of the generated htm file instead of the swf? Please note
that we would like the Captivate output to remain as htm (instead
    of swf).
    Thanks,
    MM

You're correct that Captivate files are not intended to be
run offline except via the .EXE option. Even then, the .EXE is
truly standalone and doesn't support any of the results tracking
options found in the Quiz Manager.
The main reason HTML is not good for offline use is that any
HTML file with embedded Javascript and Flash (as is the case with
Captivate-generated files) is typically considered "dangerous" by
both the browser and Flash Player security settings when run
locally. This can lead to some functionality being disabled, so
unless you do a LOT of testing with users, I wouldn't recommend
running HTML files from anywhere but a web server.
That said, Rick's suggestion of using .ZIP is probably your
only good option. Not a great one, but as good as it gets.
It assumes that your users either all have some sort of
Zip-compatible decompression software (like WinZip) or are using
Windows XP SP2, which has crude Zip file support built-in. It also
assumes that they unzip ALL the files into a given directory and
don't try to run the HTML file directly from the Zip, which may or
may not work depending on the method used to open the Zip
    file.

  • Phantom Highlight Boxes in .swf published file

I am seeing ever increasing numbers of "phantom" highlight boxes in the published versions of my Captivate 4 files.  I'm publishing as .swf files.  I can't see any of the offending highlight boxes in either the "preview" or the "edit" views of the slides.  When I publish- by the time the last slide appears it is displaying every single highlight box that appeared in any of the slides.
None of my highlight boxes are set to appear "to the end of the project".
Like I said- I don't see the offending highlight boxes in edit or preview modes at all- it's only when I go to publish.
I have turned off "Advanced compression" and that did not help.
I tried clearing all of my computer history and cache, restarting, and recapturing the slides altogether.  Nothing seems to work.  Help!

    Hi there
Are you able to share the project so we might examine it first hand?
If so, upload it to a service such as YouSendIt.com or Acrobat.com and provide a link.

    Hi Rod,
    Thanks for responding.
It was weird, it would play the first slide only, then when I tried to publish, it would not.  Apparently, it was a memory problem.  As soon, as I cleaned up my flash and hard drives, it published successfully.  Never had seen that before, and the project is only 62 slides.

  • Any version of Flash (cs3-cs5) will not publish my file..

    Hi all,
this is the first time i encounter this problem.. I had the problem where a file would not open correctly which was also addressed at this forum. But this one is different. this file was created (from what i remember) in Flash 8, then opened/saved in all possible flash versions for updates in time.
While it will open just fine, it will not publish. The publish window with the percentage will open up for a split second, then it will close with no messages whatsoever, no actionscript errors, nothing. F12, the same thing again. No possible settings could solve this. I am willing to send the file for testing of course, have tried to publish using Flash cs4 and Flash cs5. I thought of going back to Flash 8 by opening the file and saving to a previous version but as soon as i open the file in Flash cs3 (while the file has been saved as cs3) it will not open the file with an error message that i cannot remember right now.
So the problem might lie in how Flash cs3 saved the file, but it will open just fine in cs4 and cs5 so the file is not corrupt in any means..
    any ideas?
    George
p.s. I tried deleting EVERYTHING off the stage and the library and yet it wont publish.. tried copying all frames on another empty file, couldnt publish either...
