Flash video doesn't make the fan go crazy

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this yet but, so far on my new aluminum Macbook when I watch any flash based videos I haven't heard the fans kick up once and the heat on the laptop seems to be very mild. All of the other Macbooks I've owned, Original White, several Macbook Pro's and a Macbook Air have all exibited the same behavior while watching any flash based videos and that is that the fan goes absolutely crazy after a while. The CPU still spikes but, I don't notice the fan kicking on. I haven't run any kind of temp monitoring software but, I'm guessing since the laptop is only slightly warm on the bottom that they have managed to control temps much better in these new designs. Anyone else noticing this or is this just me?

And you are sure that BOTH the HTML and SWF file are on the
CD?
I took your source and a dummy SWF (which I named
"video.swf"), put them on a CD and it works fine for me.
When you double-click on the HTML file on the CD, what does
the URL bar say specifically?
If you "hover" your mouse over where you think Flash should
be, do you see anything, like a tooltip saying "Click to activate
and use this control"?

  • Flash Builder doesn't rebuild the project everytime I modify the code

    Hi,
Flash Builder doesn't rebuild the project everytime I modify the code.
I find myself chasing ghosts when trying to debug my project. Flash Builder 4.0 doesn't rebuild my project after every change I make.
The "Project - Build Automatically" is of course selected. To make sure the problem is real I ran "Project - Build All" several times. Nothing helped.
For example, I am using a boolean constant to select different code in an if block. Even if I change the value of the boolean, When I debug the code, I see that the constant's value doesn't change. Only If I log out login again, FB will rebuild my code.
This happens too many times and it is very confusing to debug, when you don't know if the result now is with or without your changes.
    It also affects the following:
    - breakpoints that are set or disabled are not taken into account and the debugger will skip them even if they are set or stop on them if they are disabled.
    - the debugger stops the debug on empty lines, if those lines previously contained code.
    - When I comment out the declaration of variables. Eclipse doesn't recognize them and doesn't show any hint on them when you hold the CTRL key and hover over, but while in debug mode, when you hover over the variable instance, its shows a value for it.
    Thanks for your help.
    Bye,
    RaamEE-IL

The problem is with the SDK settings selected for the Compiler.
Try going to 'Project' > 'Properties' > 'ActionScript Compiler'.
Now, in the 'Flex SDK section', try changing the SDK. Click on 'Apply'.
This will force FB to rebuild all settings for the project.
You can try again. FB should now have started compiling with latest code changes again.
Please Note: This is not a permanent fix though!
In case the problem re-occurs, you'll need to again perform the steps mentioned above to get FB back on track.

  • My G5 doesn't make the Chiming noise  when I restart it.

My G5 doesn't make the Chiming noise anymore when I restart it. I also noticed that the light blinks in frequency of 3 flashes, so I removed one of the RAMs based on the instructions listed in the manual. Now it only flashes once periodically everytime I restart it.

You need to reinstall that module or replace it. A Power Mac G5 won't recognize RAM which isn't part of a matching pair.

the fan is very audible, and then winds down to almost quiet - why? how do i make the fans be quiet?

hi, re my fans, this issue is about 1 week old and the machine is behaving normally.  However...the bottom of the machine is quite hot (but it has always been quite warm) and I do have my battery settings in preferences set to high performance (uses more memory.)  Also, I often stream video thru Firefox while working on medium/large Photoshop Docs as well as leaving ITunes or Preview open in the background.  Also, I leave my MacBook on continually...it's 3 years old...should I be concerned?  Is this issue indicitive of a battery problem or Sudden Computer Death Syndrome?

  • How do you play a Flash video and then close the player?

I have a splash page that plays a .swf. At the end of the
video the home.html page is opened. As/after the home page launches
I want to play a Flash video and then have the player close.
I am willing to trade wife, children or beagles for the info.

Are these two separate browser windows? One for the Flash
.swf and a different window for the home.html document? Is this
    correct:
    1. show .swf in one window,
    2. open new, second, window with home.html
    3. show second .swf in first window
    4. close first window when second .swf finishes
If this is the scenario, then no, you can't reliably close
the first window. You can use Javascript to close a browser window,
but, if that window wasn't opened using Javascript, then it may not
close gracefully, or in the case of IE, may display a prominent
    error message.

  • Mac Os 10.6.6 update start the fans goes crazy

    Hi to all
Some months ago (almost a year from now) my mac start to become hot after only a few minutes it started up and the fan goes crazy but I never realize why. I made some search on the internet but the only answer I found was using some software to reduce fan speed. It didn't work. I run the Hardware test but nothing strange. I also took my macbook to an apple certified repair center but they told me that nothing was wrong. I also ask to another repair center but same thing. So I left my macbook as it was with this super fan noise all the time. A quite disturbing thing but there was no solution and for what I'm doing my machine is ok so why change it? (It was the only solution they gave me)
Last day my hd broke down so I had to replace it. I took my macbook pro a1211 model to an apple repair center they change the hd with a new one.
So I reinstall everything for the beginning. I took my snow leopard dvd formatted the new hd, installed the os, iWork 2008, iLife 2008, Mamp, CSS Edit, Espresso, Pixelmator and few other application such as Firefox, Camino, Etc...
I use the macbook with mac os 10.6, because I had to finish some work, and with my big surprise for two days the machine was super silent no fans, no hot body ..... nothing. I never reboot it and still no fans and hot body wow.
Today I wanted to install the developer kit with ios 4.2 and so I had to update the Mac os x to version 10.6.6 as soon as I made the update after the reboot the fans start again to go like crazy and after 15 minutes of work the macbook body become very hot.
    The question is why?
    Anyone can help me?
    Thanks in advance
    Gianfranco

  • 10.7 Lion makes the fan in my MacBook Pro roar!

The fan in my MacBook Pro 13" Thunderbolt (2,3 GHz i5, 8 GB RAM) is driving me wild! As wild as a Lion! I was used to it howling like a starting spaceship whenever I was watching crappy Flash Video, but now with 10.7 Lion, the fan even blows like crazy in Mail.app.
What’s most annoying is that it doesn't spin at a constant speed but that it's speed, and thus volume goes up and down all the time. The guys at Apple can't be serious about this... The fan action in my previous MacBook Pro 13" (2.26 GHz C2D, 8 GB) was really moderate, but the SandyBridge-based machines seem to be a nightmare.
I rather accept a slower CPU, than the penetrating and annoying howling. Come on Apple give us some Firmware update! Where is the 'eye of Steve' when you need it?
    P.S.: Please second this!
P.P.S.: I'm familiar with the Activity Monitor, and closely watch the processes, so it is not that I don't understand what is going on. Yet, still: My last C2D MBP was a zillion times quiter...

Mine is roaring too - like a computer readying for lift-off. I think it wants to be the next space shuttle.
In my case, it's definitely (at least in part) because clamshell mode currently has a major bug under Lion. You should be able to run an external monitor with the MBP lid open and internal screen off. After upgrading to Lion, the MBP screen comes back on as soon as you re-open the lid. So the only way to use only the external display is to keep the lid closed. Lid closed = poorer air circulation = hotter running = mad, mad fan noise plus a much unhappier and unhealthy living environment for the battery and other components.
One step forward, three steps back... Please fix, Apple.

    I've tried two things:

  • Adding accessibility to a Flash Video in Captivate distorts the slide text

    Greetings,
I need to add accessibility to a few 3 minute Flash Video files in Captivate.  I tried to use closed captioning but it is distorting the text on the slide as there is so much text to provide.  I have the transcription of the audio and could close caption it, assuming the displayed course does not then overwrite text elementsin the original slide.  An image is attached to show this problem.
    thoughts?
    Thanks,
    AMP

It always amazes me that the default size for CC text is so tiny. If CC text is supposed to be assisting users with disabilities or language issues what makes us think they have such exceptional vision they can read this miniscule text?
I don't think you issue is that the CC text 'distorts' the on screen text.  I think you just need to ensure that the on screen text does not transgress into the area at the bottom of the screen where the CC text box will be.
I usually make my CC text 20 points and Verdana or Arial so that it is easier to read and I set the background opacity to 100 percent so that objects underneath the CC text do not make it any harder to read.

  • Flash Video Doesn't Work

I’m having serious problems inserting Flash Video into
my site (and I have uploaded the script folder and file).
    Background:
I’m fairly experienced with most software, but I am
totally new to web creation/web software. Code is above my head.
    I created a family site using DW8 version 8.0.2. I took an
original WMV file and converted it to a FLV file using Adobe
Premiere Elements 3.0. I’ve done this step using both the
Sorenson Spark and the On2 VP6 codecs.
With my newly created FLV file (grandparents.flv), I inserted
it into my DW8 page using >Insert>Media>Flash Video. It
drops in and previews fine locally using the Preview function. This
process also creates the following files in my local directory: a
skin file (Clear_Skin_3.swf), a player file
(FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf), and a Scripts folder containing one
    file (AC_RunActiveContent.js).
I upload all these files to the server and, while the flash
video works fine locally, it just shows up as a white box on the
    web.
I’ve spent the better part of three days researching
this problem and see that it is common. That said, uploading the
Scripts folder/file as I have done does not solve the problem for
me as it appears to have done so for others.
As an aside, I can drop in the original WMV file into an
embedded Windows Media Player on my web site and that works fine.
That said, I don’t want to do it that way, I want to go with
    Flash.
    Anyone have any ideas.
The page in question is at:
    http://www.strauss.com/Lauren.html.
Any help would be appreciated….I’m at my wits
    end. Thanks.

You have multiple instances of CSS and js links in the head
    of the page.
    Please remove the redundant ones.
Your flash is not working because this file -
    http://www.strauss.com/FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf
is not properly calling the FLV file from the server. By
    browsing directly
to it, you will see that you only get a blank page.

  • P100-240: Toshiba GPU driver is old, Nvidia driver doesn't enable the fan?

    Hi,
I was wondering if Toshiba could explain their choice here.
My laptop recently got sent in for repair because it burnt itself out due to me using Nvidias own drivers on my p100-240 (pspa3e).
    The problem here is that:
    a) Toshibas drivers for this card are well over a year old and sometimes buggy in new games
    b) Toshiba does not seem to have followed the Nvidia spec (that or there is a major ACPI issue in their bios...)
so, Upon using the Nvidia drivers the laptops fan does not kick in, sending the systems temporature up to 106cand finally turning it off. It turned back on but basic graphics acceleration then failed to work.
SO, can we get an updated driver build? OR some kind of fan control app? or can you update your bios to enable nvidias drivers to function?
I feel like I cannot use my laptop for its purpose at the moment- I have reverted to installing a non-ACPI pc driver to force the fans to stay on which works well but then basic system functions like turn off do not work.
I have also been advised that this design flaw could be considered to make the system "not fit for purpose" under which case I could just return the laptop under the Sale of Goods act.
Though really, i'd just like to get my system working properly. It's bad enough not being able to run Linux on it, but even worse that windows doesnt work properly with it with official drivers.
One final question: Can I get the older BIOSes? several fixes work with them but not with the 4.0 bios (mainly linux fixes but as long as one OS works I don't care!)
Any tips on this are also welcome! Thanks for your help. :-)

    Hi
    >was wondering if Toshiba could explain their choice here.
If you want to hear anything from Toshiba then you have to contact them. This forum is only a user to user forum and unfortunately you will not find anyone from Toshiba here.
    But maybe you want to hear my opinion;
    >My laptop recently got sent in for repair because it burnt itself out due to me using Nvidias own drivers on my p100-240 (pspa3e).
    >a) Toshibas drivers for this card are well over a year old and sometimes buggy in new games
Well, many Toshiba notebooks are delivered and equipped with the same graphic cards. Maybe you have to look in other notebook series which are delivered with the same card for a newer GPU driver.
But, you are right and generally the Toshiba graphic drivers are a little bit older as the original one from GPU manufacturer.
Why? First of all the nVidia or ATI original drivers are not designed for the notebook usage. These are drivers for desktop PC graphic cards. I visited the area for mobile drivers and found a info that I have to look on the notebook manufacturer site!!! This said everything!!!!
    >b) Toshiba does not seem to have followed the Nvidia spec (that or there is a major ACPI issue in their bios...)
As mentioned above the original GPU drivers are not designed for the notebook usage.
Why? Because the notebook GPUs cannot be cooled like the graphic cards for the desktop PC!!!
The Toshiba own drivers support an overheating protection which helps to avoid an GPU damage!!!!
The original nVidia or ATI drivers do not support such overheating protection!!!
If you want to use such drivers, you can do this ONLY at your own risk!
    >Can I get the older BIOSes?
It seems Toshiba page provides only the newest BIOS. Maybe the authorized service provider can help you and could send you an older BIOS version.
Two years ago I contacted the ASP in my country and got a early version of my BIOS for the A50

  • Flash video doesn't play

I exported a sequence to flash using Adobe Media Encoder. When I double click to play it back, the Flash Video Player opens with a blank window and nothing happens and even the Macromedia Flash cannot recognize the file created. I then exported the sequence as AVI movie and used the Adobe CS3 Flash Video Encoder, but the same thing happens. What's happening here? Any missing codec? How can I export a sequence to flash being sure that my client will play it without problems?

And the avi you exported worked i assume?
Use Debugmode's frameserver to frameserve out of premiere and into flash. If that still doesnt work then there might be a problem with your project, or moreso the format of your video files, though ive havent heard of any format restrictions with flash encoding.

I've tried doing this with both a smart mailbox and using a rule to move the messages to a mailbox on my .mac account (not both at the same time, I've tried it separately both ways).
Both of these options work, except that mail will not make the "new mail" sound when I get a new email for that mailbox. Even when I add to the rule that it should make a sound, it doesn't. Other mail (i.e., all of my other mail that is delivered normally to my inbox) is not affected--I still get the normal sound. Any ideas? Thanks! (And BTW, I always give points for helpful answers!)

    You’re welcome.
Actually, I don’t participate here just to be helpful. I also do it to learn. I know WAY more about Mail now than I knew when I started helping people here... and without having experienced myself any of the problems I troubleshoot each and every day...
    I really wanted an answer.
That’s precisely why you shouldn’t say in advance that you’ll give points. Nobody is going to assume you won’t, so there is no need to say you will. All you have to do is mark posts when appropriate (without saying in advance that you will). That makes everybody happy.
don't you ever get frustrated by the number of people who don't
mark helpful or solved answers as such?
Not if the OP somehow lets me know whether the proposed solution worked or not. Sometimes I know for sure what the problem is and how to solve it, but others I don’t, and the user’s feedback is way more valuable to me than any points I could get.
So yes, merely setting up a smart mailbox is enough to make Mail
    to quit making the sound.
I’ve been unable to reproduce what you describe, but I’ve found something that could be related. Selecting an IMAP (or .Mac) mailbox causes Mail to check for changes made to that mailbox, including checking for new mail and applying rules as appropriate, just like it would do when automatically checking for mail according to your settings, except no sound is played if new mail arrived...
Could that be what you’re observing, i.e. could it be that Mail is actually behaving as expected but it seems that it isn’t because you’re checking for new mail as a result of manually selecting the account’s Inbox or something like that?

  • Will running games that make the fan run loudly and the computer heat up damage my machine?

On my Macbook Air running Yosemite 10.10.3, with 4 GB RAM, 251 GB storage (170 GB free), a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, and Intel HD 6000 1536 MB graphics card, when I play games such as Batman Arkham City, I experience very smooth gameplay with high fps. The only thing that worries me is when I play, the laptop heats up very much and the fan runs pretty loudly. Even with old, less intensive games like GTA SA, the computer gets pretty hot and the fan runs loudly. Is this damaging the computer, or can I continue to play these games?
    Thanks.

Yes you can continue to play games but heat is the bane of electronics and in time there will be a cost.  When is hard to say, but I can put it this way, a fan running constantly at high speed is more likely to fail sooner than one at a slower speed.
    Ciao.
