Flash video skipping

Hi. I've done some searching and can't figure out how to resolve this. And it's driving me crazy.
For some time now, Flash video playback has been skipping chronically on my MBP. I thought it might be because I needed to do some housecleaning, but I've done that and it's still skipping.
Play any video -- webisodes, Youtube, whatever -- and the picture skips. The audio plays straight through, but the picture will stick and skip.
I'm using OS X 10.5.6, Firefox 3.0.9, updated flash player, etc. My 180GB hard drive has 49GB free. I've got 4GB RAM and it skips even when no other programs are open. I've repaired permissions. Video still skipping.
Any suggestions? What can I do? Please help... online video is unwatchable.

+do this without the disc?+
See if this helps:
Boot holding down Apple/S and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
*fsck -fy*
Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - _run the command again and keep doing so_ (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
reboot
The other thing to check is your streaming settings:
Open System Preferences/Quicktime and click the Streaming Tab
Set the speed to one lower than your actual connection
Check Instant On
Move the slider a couple of notches from the left
(I know you're having trouble with Flash content but just try this to humor me ;-))

  • Flash video skips ahead

I have been using video in breeze for some time now and every
now and then I have issues with movies that play normally after
compression, but once inserted in breeze they play faster than
normal. This is the case of those movies that are controlled by the
user's menu. If I cancel that feature, then the movie plays
normally. I've tried various things to overcome the issue, but no
luck. Even creating fresh new movies and compressions. Any
    idea?

You cracked it mdanehy! Thank you. I had given up hope.
The GMA seems to be the common theme, but I don't know enough about processors to speculate. Certainly this is my first personal (known) experience of multi-core problems, of which I understand there are many.
Any idea on how to make this setting permanent? So far I have found: http://www.bitsum.com/processlasso/ which apparently can do the trick, but seems a little over the top. I was hoping this could be done in the exe properties.
Only on windows it seems you have to jump through all these hoops just to get a simple video to play back normally!
    Thank you again,
    Lech
P.s. I found the following which seems to be the same problem: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5913842

  • Flash player skips to a green screen when fast forwarding video OSX 10.8.2

Right so I have searched the forum and found a few threads about flash videos generally being a green screen, but nothing there helped my problem, nor did it seem similar. I have a 15" MacbookPro Retina running OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2, my flash player is up to date, and so are my graphics drivers.
My problem is whenever I view a flash video, and I want to click ahead to a later point (i.e skip some of the video) then all I get is either a completely green screen or just pink and green noisy rubbish and nonsense video artefacts. The sound however continues to play fine from the point that I have skipped to. And also this happens regardless of the buffering of the video, If it is all fully buffered it still goes rubbishy as soon as I click ahead to skip, but if I just let videos play through they are fine to the end. html5 video plays fine, everything else on my system works flawlessly.
I read in a load of posts that i should disable hardware acceleration. But I can't, as my flash player is also suffering from the apparently well known bug where the right click settings menu is totally unresponsive to mouse input.
I'm stuck for what to do next and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you give this a try with Chrome to see if it also occurs there?  It sounds like a networking problem but you might also want to try clearing your Flash Player cache and settings.
How do I clear my Flash Player cache and settings?

  • Choppy/skipping flash video

I have a late 2011 iMac (21.5") that has worked pretty well since purchase in November, 2011. However recently I started to experience severe lagging and even major skipping when viewing Flash video content on a number of different sites. The behavior exists in both Firefox and Safari, and I've tried a clean install of Flash twice now with no improvement. I also upgraded my router to address intermittent wireless outages that I thought were contributing to the video performance issues. I was previously using an old Airport Express, and purchased a new Airport Extreme. That improved my wireless performance dramatically. Constant signal drops disappeared, and my speedtest.net speed went from all over the map with an average of 5Mbps to a smooth steady 50Mbps almost every time. However the video issues have persisted. Yesterday I downloaded temperature monitor to see if overheating was an issue. Here are my readings after about 40 minutes of running flash content:
I just purchased an APC UPS (something I've been meaning to do anyway) but I'm doubtful power fluctuations are the culprit. I'll try plugging directly into the router of course, to see if somehow flash content is causing some wifi signal variance that speedtest doesn't pick up. But I'm beginning to worry that my GPU is the real issue here. Anyone have a similar issue or any other ideas? I do still have Apple Care so if it's a hardware issue I do believe I can have it replaced at no cost.

Well this is funny. After all my troubleshooting and research, last night my flash video was smooth as butter and crystal clear. What changed? I have a feeling it was related to this:
    http://www.businessinsider.com/timewarner-down-2014-8
I think even though Speedtest was showing a constant download speed of 50Mpbs it was masking an ISP issue that was resolved after the national outage. Glad that happened before I dropped $180 on a RAM upgrade.

  • Skipping Problem when vieweing Flash Videos

    Hi.
I've downloaded and istalled the latest flash plugin, but
videos on sites like youtube and google videos skip every few
    seconds. It's really, really annoying.
I'm running XP on a 1.0 Ghz Athlon (not Athlon 64, just
Athlon). Have about 320 mb ram. Also have this Riva TNT2 32mb video
    card.
I've tried to watch videos on both Firefox 2 and Internet
Explorer 7, but both are the same. When I download flash videos
though, and play them through VLC player or something like that, I
don't get any skips. It's just for online videos.
No, it's not about loading the videos either. Even if I wait
until the video's fully loaded, The skipping's still there. And no,
nothing's running in the background as I play the videos.
I've also tried to uninstall the plugin via the "flash
uninstaller" downloaded from adobe, reboot, reinstall the plugin,
reboot. No Dice. Also tried running a few antispyware programs.
    Still skips.
I've tried turning off the windows firewall, and tried
without any other anti-virus or firewall running, and still get
    skips.
It's as if the video's refreshing every 3-6 seconds...
    Please help
    Edit:
Just tried downloading Opera for the hell of it and trying to
watch videos on it, but still get skips. Also tried firefox's safe
    mode (no plugins).

    Hi 9000,
Have you verified flash is up to date? If it's not up to date, have you considered downloading & the latest flash player?
While your at it, you may want to verify that Adobe ShockWave is up to date. And if it's not, download and install the latest 64-bit shockwave player.
If your still having issues, have you tried using another account on your dad's computer? dose it have the same issue?
if it's only your dad's account that has issues, you may want to try deleting flash cookies by using a program like Flush.app – Flash Cookie Removal Tool For OS X.
    cheers,

  • When I try to play a flash video (like youtube) i have to click a flash button several times before it works. Why do flash videos not recogonize any clicks without several tries first?

When I try to go to a flash video, the video player never seems to recognize my mouse clicks without several tries.
It's hard to explain but if I'm at a youtube video and i place my cursor over the button that lets you skip around the video, the cursor will alternate being a cursor (like its not recognized) and a hand like its supposed to. It's sort of keeps flickering between the two if I move the mouse around on that little skip button.
I tried uninstalling firefox but it didn't make a difference. I noticed it after updating to the newer firefoxe updates. This does not happen under IE.

  • Multiple URL's in a Flash Video

    Good afternoon,
I have created a Flash Video that contains three images that fade in and out between each other. The problem I am having is I want the user to be able to click on an image and get directed to a specific URL. Each of the three images has a different URL destination. I am new to Flash & haven't been able to find a solution anywhere. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I am using Flash Professional CS5.
    Thank You in advance

It's not that you can't do something like that with a .flv, but you still end up making a few movie clips to provide the interactivity. By embedding "cue points" in the .flv, you could trigger a movieclip (an invisible button) to appear over the top of the .flv when one image is displayed. That movieclip would serve as a button with a onRelease to getURL(AS2) or navigateToURL(AS3). This all gets compiled into a .swf anyway... but using the .flv complicates matters a little.
To skip using a .flv, just a .swf, turn each image into a movieclip (be sure they each get an instance name) and in your actions layer in the main timeline assign those getURL(AS2) or navigateToURL(AS3) actions to each movieclip (the image).

  • Flash Video Issue

I keep getting the following error message when I try to
insert flash video with a skin: "The URL cannot contain spaces or
special characters. Change the path of file name and try again."
I've changed to all lower case and eliminated spaces but to
no avail. Here is an example of the url I've entered:
    media_video/SistaShirl_June06.swf and
    media_video/goswaipunagroovy.swf
Any help for this would be appreciated.

P.S: Try an option from the dropdown menu on the page and except "a dimond bullet" which I know is faulty, and witness my issue.
Also when I replay the MP4 movie clip after full download and viewing it displays without skipping...!
    Thanks again.

  • AE CS3 - Adobe Flash Video - Format Options causes crash

Like the titles states. I see so many people say Adobe Flash Video is the way to go for export options yet AE always crashes on me when I choose it's - Format Options (from output module in the render queue).
I use Flash all the time and it works fine but since I cannot access AE's FLV format options. Each time I press it AE just locks up.
Is this one of things Adobe just never fixed in CS3? I don't care to read comments saying to use something else to render it. That isn't what I'm asking so save it. I created a simple object in AE and just want to see how it looks with FLV export. AVI looks fine but seems like everyone says it would look better as FLV. Since I cannot access the format options for FLV it is the worst option and very blurry so that leads me to believe it was one of those things Adobe just abonded in CS3.
I searched and found nothing. I would continue my search but Adobe's choice for forum format couldn't be any slower. If Adobe can answer this question maybe I can shed some light on saving it's members some agony and teach them some PHP. This is rediculously slow and my worst forum puts this to shame.

Thanks Todd, that's what I figured. I remember when Adobe bought it  from Macromedia so figured it was just something I couldn't do with this  older version. I just figured I see what all the noise was and thought maybe it might have been an update for a plugin or something stupid. I normally use Xvid and either output in MP4 or AVI any. I'm not a video guy so rarely use AE. Just been experimenting and it's still a little foreign to me.
Appreciate the answer and your time!
    [personal attack removed by moderator]
As for the forum, I have several times left "forum feedback" but hmmm, let's see. None of you, not even Adobe employees can say they aren't tired of how slow it is here. If I google something, I'm sure to see what links are from where and will always skip ones that start with "forums.adobe" unless I have expelled all other options which is rare. This isn't about you not thinking that's true, it's about what's on your nose and comparing my post count to your own, haha. Yes, I should have relaxed before my post and that comment but even back paging takes 30 seconds. Let me guess, you're going to say it's my bandwidth I suppose? I can upload 50mb a min, and on the right site download several hundred,,, not the issue, Take care now.

  • All Flash Videos Pause - Mac OSX 10.7.3 - Flash 11.2.202.228

    Hello,
I never imagined myself joining the Adobe Forum to troubleshoot an answer. I've combed the FAQ and forums searching for an answer but I'm coming up short. I've googled several search items and have also come up empy. (I'm an IT Tech with more Windows oriented troublehsooting and learning Macs pretty quickly)
I have a Gen 1 MacBook Air that I've come across - Doing so I've wiped the drive and installed a new copy of Lion 10.7.3, all software up-to-date.
Since I've installed flash I haven't had one smooth experience watching a single flash video. I've also installed Google Chrome and come up with the same annoying glitch:
My videos buffer absolutetly fine (regardless of what internet i'm connected to). I hit play and it runs for about 5 seconds then pauses... then I hit the play button and nothing happens. I have to skip back using the bar for the video to start playing again...same process happens repeatidily. It now plays for 1 or 2 seconds if that and pauses.
On all my home PC's flash runs fine and I can browse youtube without any hesitiation, etc. I aslo have a MacMini (used as a media server) that also had a fresh Lion install and runs flash absolutelty fine with the most up-to-date version.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong with it. I've run all the troubleshooting from Adobe's Help (Clean uninstall/reinstall, adjust the global settings, cleared all cache, wipe history, etc.)
I'm looking for any insight in fixing this issue. The purpose of me acquring this macbook air for entertainment purposes on my daily commute seems to have gone without being able to fully utilize my WiFi hotspot and the macbook air.
I truly don't believe it's a hardware related issue. It's a 1.6ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB of memory. I've seen far worse windows machines running flash without any issue. P4 1.5ghz 512mb ram..etc.
Thanks for any help you can provide. If there is a way to download older versions of Flash off of here to troubleshoot, that is something I'd like to try but haven't come across.
    -Michael

    Hi Michael,
Let's try going back to older versions of the player to determine if we've got a new bug against 11.2.  I'd recommend running through the clean install steps (or at least running the stand alone uninstaller), then installing 11.1.102.63 (unzip and locate the dmg).  After testing that, run the uninstaller again and then go back to 10.3.183.18.  Finally, I'd also recommend trying out 11.3 beta out to see if it occurs there too.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Both IE and FF flash videos and games slow down/lag???

Starting a half a year to a year ago, flash videos/video players and flash games on firefox and IE would run
fine for a little while and then lag/slow down ridiculously. For the videos it would lag and skip for the rest of the video, but for the flash games it goes through a cycle of running fine and then running slow/very slow for a period of time. How can I fix this? It is so annoying and can make playing flash games and watching videos with flash almost impossible some times.
I unchecked the the box for hardware acceleration already.

Do you have any suggestions in terms of the slowing down/lagging issue? Also, is there an issue with flash player itself that is causing everyone to have all these problems with it ruining videos and stuff? Is adobe working on it/is there any hope that future version of flash player will get rid of the lag or has adobe gone down a path that is just going to cause problems for some people, permenantly, no matter what?

  • Is this video skipping?

    hi there,
just wondering if anyone had a moment to view this flash
video in either safari or aol, my client is viewing it and is
seeing the video skip around and is unwatchable. and she's on a
high speed connection. however, whenever i check it, it loads fine.
i was wondering if anyone could view
    THIS PAGE

    not.
    thanks...much appreciated!

I took a screen-shot of just using Firefox, and the lines seem to appear over anything transparent. The firefox book marks display, and menu dropdown that's partially transparent will display some sort of distortion.
Now I believe it MAY be something software related, but I honestly have no idea!
I'm hoping you can see the lines as well:

EDIT: Upon opening the link on my iPhone, the lines don't show up! It's gotta be a graphical problem then. I also notice the contrast is A LOT higher for some reason.

  • Flash Video Caruselle

    Hi,
I am looking for a simple solution to my problem. I have 3 flv videos I would like to display after each other. That is fine, however, My problem is that I want to change the flv files (thus changing the video too). My problem is that since the videos are different, the time between one another may vary. I would like to know how to instruct Flash to skip to the next video once the previous one has stopped.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply, I am using AS2 and I am inserting the video to stream from the source file by importing the video from the import menu...

  • Very basic question: Flash Media Server vs. embedding flash video

I'm hoping this is a quick easy question to answer:
What is the difference between Flash Media Server and simply
using a freeware Flash media player (like Flowplayer
    http://flowplayer.org/) that
uses XML playlists to embed your Flash videos on a website?
What are the advantages to Flash Media Server and how does
something like Flowplayer not address issues that FMS can?
    Thanks in advance!
    Erik

In a nutshell flowplayer delivers the video through your web
browser. It does this via http protocol (port 80) and progressive
    download on any web server
Progressive download finds the video on the server and plays
it back through the player as it is being downloaded. 2 important
things to take from this are 1, the video is being downloaded to
the clients hard drive, at the end of the playback they will have a
copy of your video that they can do whatever they like to and
repost it somewhere else. 2, It plays back as it downloads, meaning
if I'm viewing a 10 minute video from your site and want to skip
ahead to the middle or end I have to wait for the whole video to
download before viewing those segments. Your web host by the way
will love you for progressive download because it will appear as
though your transfer rate has gone through the roof. Once the
request for the video is made there is no turning back, the client
gets the whole thing whether they watch it or not.
Flash media server uses the rtmp protocol. This protocol is
an open socket protocol through port 1935. This is a two way street
essentially. When the user views a video using FMS they basically
get only enough of the video to keep the connection open and
satisfy the required buffer to assure clean playback. The bytes of
info that carry the video only go to the users memory, not the hard
drive. This allows the user to jump back and forth around in the
movie without having to wait for the whole thing to download.
    Hope that helps.
