Flash Video Still Causes Fan To Rev Up

I can't watch videos on my white Mac Book because the things gets hot and the fans rev up so loud it's hard to hear the video.
So I just downloaded the latest Flash Player plug-in and installed it and I don't see any difference in this regard.
Am I missing something?
Thanks!

Hey Scot,
No, you're not. This is just how Flash is. I typically us a set of headphones while watching a Flash video.
Make sure you've looked in Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and have confirmed no other processes are using a lot of CPU at the same time as your Flash video.
Trying other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, etc) may help.
Also make sure the room temperature isn't too high. My MacBook starts to warm up faster once the room temperature has gone above 70F.

  • "Nap" mode causes fans to rev higher - normal?

I've recently installed the appropriate CHUD tools for my PM G4, but find that activating "Nap" mode immediately causes the fans to rev more quickly, causing more noise. Is this normal? I've modified no other settings, and was not taxing the machine to any degree when activating "Nap".
I am of the opinion that the 10.4.11 update (which I installed prior to installing CHUD) brought a measure of increased fan variance whilst running that I certainly didn't notice in 10.4.10. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, is it possible that CHUD has been superseded by 10.4.11?

    Hi,
What is your current specs for your machine? What is your firmware? Apple did revise the firmware and provided a newer one for the mdd machines. The current and last up to date firmware is: 4.4.8f2, if you have fw800, that is 4.6.??f1. I think the better firmware controlled the fan settings, and prevented the fans from reving too high. You might also want to try and revert back to 10.4.10 and see what happens. I am currently running 10.4.11 and nothing is happening with my fans.
Please describe for me your G4 MDD.. report back to me and possibly we can come up with a solution.

  • Flash video still plays when div is hidden

    Greetings all,
I'm setting up a mini website that has divs that appear and disappear using the stock features in dreamweaver.  The problematic divs use grow/shrink to appear and disappear.  I put a video in this div (both using stock player and Flowplayer) and when I shrink the div the video continues to play.  I've tried straight up hiding the div that doesn't work either.  Another thing I tried was using the status "visibility:none;" in the CSS - no joy there. Is there something I'm missing or is this just not possible?
    Thanks

You will need to use javascript to communicate with the <div> when you close or hide it so that it "turns off" the video player as the first step in hiding the <div>... other wise the video just keeps playing.... it's still on.... imagine that!
If you don't mind using a player like JW Player, here's an example of turning the player off when the overlay <div> is hidded:
    http://www.fxaddicts.com/
Click the small vid player in the middle of the page and an overlay will change from display:none to display:block... and a large video player shows up. Start the video and then look for the small red x in the top right corner. This button first stops the video then changes the display of the <div> to none.
You will need the JW player files, including:
    <script src="http://player.longtailvideo.com/jwplayer.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
and include something like this in you hide/show event:
    <div id="show_hide">
      <a onclick="jwplayer().stop();"; href="javascript:ReverseDisplay('mediaspace2')" ><img src="images/close.jpg" width="930" height="30" border="0" /></a>
      </div>
View the source code for the page for more details. Find the JW Player here:

  • Certain Flash videos cause instant BSOD.

When surfing every now and then a Flash video will cause an instant BSOD. I suspect this is related to hardware acceleration, but haven't found a common link as it's not directly related to resolution or window size. I'm on a PC that should have no problem handling several graphics intensive windows at once and I would really like to be able to use hardware acceleration to take advantage of the system as much as possible. Going to try disabling hardware acceleration for now, but any other tips would be appreciated.

This sounds like a Flash plugin problem, i.e. not really a Firefox problem. Out of curiosity, does this happen in Internet Explorer as well when playing similar videos?

  • Flash Video Won't Open and Play in Online Site

When I upload my Flash Video files to the online server, the HTML page opens but the Flash Video doesn't open and play.  If I open the HTML page in preview mode in Dreamweaver CS5, the HTML page opens and the Flash Video plays OK.  I have tried using the Adobe Media Encoder to produce the FLV file as well as tried exporting the FLV from Adobe Premiere CS 5.5, but neither makes any difference.  The Flash Video still doesn't play when files are uploaded to the site online.  I have also tried using different versions of Flash Professional to create and publish the SWF movie file, but nothing I try seems to make the Flash Video open and play online.  The test site I have set up is http://www.hgatest.org then you can click the “video” link to open the Flash Video. Video HTML page URL is http://www.hgatest.org /video.html   You can then see what I am talking about.  Please help.  This just started happening about 6 months ago and it has been driving me crazy.  Any ideas will be helpful.  Thanks, Joe K.

  • SOLUTION: Flash Video Causing Blue Screen & Lockups

Symptoms:  While playing a flash video, your screen locks up; goes black; you can hear audio in the background; and/or Blue Screen of Death.  The Blue Screen indicates a fault in nv4_disp.dll.
    =================  SOLUTION   =================
Newer versions of Nvidia Drivers are causing the problem.    Disabling hardware acceleration in Flash only reduces the frequency of the lockups, but does not resolve the issue.
Use this version of the Nvidia driver (but no later):   266.58
    Get it here:  http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
This is confirmed to resolve the problem.
Later Nvidia drivers added CUDA 4.0 (Unified Virtual Addressing (UVA) and GPUDirect™ v2.0) which is the root cause of the issue with "older" cards such as the 200 series and the 8 series.
If you have a somewhat older graphics card, there really is little need to update past version 266.58.

  • Have reset Firefox & completed all of steps in "Flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites", but video still won't work. Help!

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

  • Firefox is in conflict with Flash player. Flash keeps crashing and locking up Firefox. Also, may be effecting Outlook. Downloaded the current rev of Flash. Still crashing. Please advise.

Of late, when ever I attempt to listen to radio online, or view video, the viewer / Flash crashes, locks up Firefox, and seems to also have some sort of effect on MS Outlook.

It could be that hardware acceleration in Flash is causing it (and Firefox) to crash. Try following this to disable it: [[Managing the Flash plugin#w_playing-flash-videos-makes-firefox-hang]]

  • Flash video causes my Mac mini to crash displaying blocks of stripes

As you can see from the picture below, flash video sometimes (often though) causes my Mac mini with Intel Graphics HD 3000 crashes while displaying blocks of stripes and repeating "tick" noise. I believe it just plays audio data in a buffer repeatedly at that moment.
It looks to me that it failed in decoding the video. Probably it can be due to mal-formated encoding, but after rebooting if I move the play position to the same spot, it plays there correctly. So, probably somehow when there is somewhat wrong encoded data filled in a buffer to decode but there is some non-allowed operation is processed. ( like divide-by-zero. I don't mean that this one is due to divide-by-zero. ) Can be somewhat related to DCT block....

is this going to be fixed soon? Probably this is a bug which is already being traced?

I haven't seen this occur before.  We're going to need some additional info from you.  Please see this tech doc for some simple troubleshooting steps (in particular, try the HTML5 vs. Flash video tests and try disabling Flash Player's hardware acceleration).  The doc also explains what information we'll need and how you can report the issue to us.

  • AE CS3 - Adobe Flash Video - Format Options causes crash

Like the titles states. I see so many people say Adobe Flash Video is the way to go for export options yet AE always crashes on me when I choose it's - Format Options (from output module in the render queue).
I use Flash all the time and it works fine but since I cannot access AE's FLV format options. Each time I press it AE just locks up.
Is this one of things Adobe just never fixed in CS3? I don't care to read comments saying to use something else to render it. That isn't what I'm asking so save it. I created a simple object in AE and just want to see how it looks with FLV export. AVI looks fine but seems like everyone says it would look better as FLV. Since I cannot access the format options for FLV it is the worst option and very blurry so that leads me to believe it was one of those things Adobe just abonded in CS3.
I searched and found nothing. I would continue my search but Adobe's choice for forum format couldn't be any slower. If Adobe can answer this question maybe I can shed some light on saving it's members some agony and teach them some PHP. This is rediculously slow and my worst forum puts this to shame.

Thanks Todd, that's what I figured. I remember when Adobe bought it  from Macromedia so figured it was just something I couldn't do with this  older version. I just figured I see what all the noise was and thought maybe it might have been an update for a plugin or something stupid. I normally use Xvid and either output in MP4 or AVI any. I'm not a video guy so rarely use AE. Just been experimenting and it's still a little foreign to me.
Appreciate the answer and your time!

As for the forum, I have several times left "forum feedback" but hmmm, let's see. None of you, not even Adobe employees can say they aren't tired of how slow it is here. If I google something, I'm sure to see what links are from where and will always skip ones that start with "forums.adobe" unless I have expelled all other options which is rare. This isn't about you not thinking that's true, it's about what's on your nose and comparing my post count to your own, haha. Yes, I should have relaxed before my post and that comment but even back paging takes 30 seconds. Let me guess, you're going to say it's my bandwidth I suppose? I can upload 50mb a min, and on the right site download several hundred,,, not the issue, Take care now.

  • Flash Video causes PC to randomly freeze

    Hi there,
I really hope someone can help me with this problem.
I have recently built a new PC and found that watching flash video on websites can cause the PC to totally freeze, which requires a hard re-boot.
This does not happen immeadiatley I am watching a flash video, however if a web page has a number of multiple flash video streams, the PC will tend to freeze within 30 minutes.
This has occured on a number of websites in Firefox, IE and Safari.  Here's what I've tried so far:
-Used different browsers (IE8, Safari, Firefox)
    -Disabled hardware acceleration
-Changed IDE cables to windows hard drive
-If download a stream, changed the target drive
-Increased virtual memory to: 2,046MB (Initial) 4,092MB (Max)
-Run regcure to chack for registry issues
-The  system is stable at all other times, including playing high end video games that are stressing the CPU and Graphics Card.
    System spec:
Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H Motherboard, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU, 8GB DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 1280MB Graphics Card, MS Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3, Hanns.G HG281 22" Monitor at 1920x1200 via HDMI
I would really appreciate of anyone has got any ideas on this one.
    Best regards,
    Steve

Hi, A couple of years ago I had ZA with a Router (not wireless) and it didn't work well with my XP and had to finally switch from ZA to another AV. What you might try also is to try just using the Modem without the Router and see if that is helpful. It may be that the ZA is too much for the Wireless Router.
Testing as you say would be a good idea and also running a scan for any Virus.
With all of the browsers having those problems, something aside from addons may be happening.
Posting this article about the H.A. and Drivers, etc.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/systemreqs/index.html
I don't think this has anything to do with the freezing, but some sites require 3rd party to be allowed.
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html
If it's not a Virus or Router/ZA then perhaps the drivers.
    Thanks,

There's two ways you can go about this Amanda.
    1. Set the length of your images for example 8 seconds each. Offset the photo's like a ladder effect and add the animating keyframes. The red dots in the image below represent the start/finish points of the animation.
    2. The other option is to set the length of all the same, then use keyframes to set the start/ finish of the animation.
I always use example 1, however example 2 would probably be easier to understand?
    Hope that helps
