Flash Videos - Crash Operating System
I have sarted to experience a problem whilst watching Flash Videos on my 2007 Macbook (Snow Leopard) OSX 10.6.8.
The problem is that after a few mins, the video becomes juttery, and then crashes (repeating audio snippet), with an opaque black message onscreen, requesting that a hard reboot (via power button) is completed.
Any ideas on how to fix (occurs in Safari and Firefox - lateast version of Flash installed)? Seems like this was previously a problem for Lion users.
Thanks for your advice, however having followed your advice the error remains.
I have included the results of the error report generated below - any guidance gratefully received! It seems similar to this issue on Lion - https://discussions.apple.com/message/15822309#15822309

Flash video crashes on multiple browsers
Hi all,
My specs:
eMachines notebook
Intel Core i3 CPU 2GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit
Browsers Installed IE8, Firefox 4 and Chrome
AVG Free Edition installed
Shockwave Flash 10.3.181.4 installed for FF
Graphics Driver Intel HD Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2119
I'm accessing the internet through wireless internet
I have been having a problem where playing flash video has crashed all the browsers I have installed. This issue has happened on multiple websites including Youtube and BBC iPlayer. It started happening out of the blue on 25th May 2011. There doesn't appear to be any microsoft updates added at that time and I did not install any new software on that day.
In Firefox the issue happens 100% of the time. After watching for a few minutes the video starts to buffer and then the browser completely freezes up before the frame greys out and the option to send crash report appears. When I reload the page the same thing happens again. Sometimes the audio will start to repeat itself with a delay of a few seconds before crashing.
In Chrome, the same thing happens except the built in plug in becomes unresponsive and the browser then freezes and reports the error.
IE crashes too although I hardly ever use it to be honest.
The things I have tried to fix this so far (without success) have been:
Manually uninstall all Adobe products
Uninstall all browsers
Delete folders and reg entries for flash and delete folders for browsers
Reinstall software and flash
Run Malwarebytes (no warnings or bad files).
Run a registry cleaner. Nothing reported that seemed to be relevant to Flash or media playback.
Uninstall Flash
Revert back to Flash 10.2 (I actually noticed a slight improvement when using 10.2 but cannot access embedded video in Facebook etc so wasn't a viable option for me).
Disable AVG and try playback
Unistall AVG and try playback
Uninstall AVG and Windows Firewall and try playback
Check for new video driver updated (there were none)
Untick Enable hardware Acceleration
Allow flash to store content in Global Settings
I have not done a system restore and do not really want to do that if possible.
The only other thing I have noticed is that it has been difficult to install exe files from the web since this issue started (when trying to reinstall browsers etc). Windows was corrupting the installers for chrome and firefox as well as the Malware Bytes.
I have spent almost 12 hours of my life now googling and trying out different conditions to get this working and it really has me flummoxed! I really hope a kind samaritan can help me with some advice here. Thanks KHi, You may want to go to this site: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/. Right click on the Flash logo, Settings,
then UNcheck the hardware acceleration in Display Settings.
Then make sure that in IE you have the Security Setting for the Internet Zone set to Medium.
Hope that helps,

Flash Video Crash Frequency Becoming Alarming
I know that there is a final push to get FP 9 out the door by
the end of the month. However, I have to say that the frequency
with which my browsers are crashing, predominantly when the content
is Flash Video, is giving me some serious cause for alarm. In a
browser like Firefox, where there is one process for every window
you have open, losing multiple windows worth of work is immensely
frustrating. I have submitted this same issue via the Wish Form
several times as well, so this isn't the first I'm noting this.
Here's my (seemingly standard) setup:
Windows XP Professional with SP2, fully patched

Major commercial sites where the browser tends to crash:
CNN.com
ESPN.com
In both cases, it is almost invariably any time one of the
Flash Video ads for Apple's new Mac campaign appears. Further, I've
noted that it gets to the point where the video looks to be done
loading and is about to play back. I went to a second machine that
had FP 8 installed, and the video played fine.
I'm a huge fan of the improvements that FP 9 is offering for
developers, but if I can't achieve stability accessing very common
web sites, I can't ask my customers to upgrade so that they can use
my Flex 2 apps....that just won't fly.
I certainly don't mean to sound alarmist, but I know the
release date is near and so far I'm notThe Apple Ad Played in Quick Time for me and the CNN video
did not crash. Do you have a specific path to a specific video you
can send as an example?

Flash videos temporarily freeze system
OS : Windows 7 64bits
Browser : Firefox 6.0
Flash player version : 10.3.183.5
Hi,
Somehow, for about 3 to 4 days now, I have a very annoying problem that happens when playing flash videos.
At first, videos play fine, but after some time, on a random video, after around 5 seconds playing it correctly, the system completely freezes but you can still hear the sound of the video going veeeeery slowwwly. (you can actually hear every "frame" of it, it's quite disgusting to hear) But you can't do anything. No ctrl-alt-suppr, no ctrl-alt-esc...
After about 1 minute, the system goes back to function. (and suddenly does every command you asked during the freeze)
This happened to me on youtube and some other weird player. My belief is that it's a bug?
AndySome updates on the issue:
- The same problem occurs when using IE9 (64bits).
- I read on some other thread that the current version was quite problematic, so I tried downgrading to 10.3.181.34... Problem NOT solved.
- The GPU is a Geforce GTX 460M.
- No problems when playing videogames or videos through VLC.

Computer crashed operating system
My computer crashed. New operating system and drive installed. Apple won't recognize. Lost music, can't sync with ipod, phone, icloud or open music on computer.
Hi Medina ,
Acrobat 8 is an older version .It might not be compatible with Windows 7 .
Try upgrading it to the latest version .i.e Acrobat 11.0.10 or any higher versions than Acrobat 8.
Many folks have gotten AA8 to work on Win7. I have only heard of one report suggesting that AA8 will work on a 64-bit system, and I am not sure about the report. If you have a 64-bit system, you will likely need to upgrade, though if you play around you might be successful in finding a solution (Adobe will not help since it is not a certified platform, but some folks here might if they have been successful).
In any case, after installation you will need to do the updates for proper operation. If you can not do them from within Acrobat, you may have to download them fromhttp://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows. You need to install the updates in ORDER unless indicated other wise. Reboots can typically be saved until the last update is installed.

Adobe Flash compatibility by operating system
As many websites require Flash, if you find you use a website frequently be sure they know what your version of Flash is, if they suddenly make their Flash not work:
10.5.8 PowerPC: have two possible versions which may work from one file: flashplayer101r53_64_ubmac.dmg flashplayer101r82_76_ubmac.dmg
10.5.8 Intel: 10.3.181.34
10.4.11 and earler, see this article:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
To check if Flash is indeed failing, on any Mac with 10.4 or later, install ClicktoFlash, which lets you with a simple control-click whitelist or blacklist specific websites Flash.jim301 wrote:
Mike, thanks. I see that on some of your other posts you recommended a clean install, deleting a couple files. Do you think it wise I clean and then install Flash 12?
Unless you experience trouble with a regular install, it isn't necessary... more thorough, yes, and it doesn't take much longer, but it's not a necessity.
If it suits you...
How to perform a "clean install" of Flash Player in Mac OS X -
for months I have checked the forums, and seen the same issues with Adobe Flash Player ... I have uninstalled and reinstalled too many times now and am totally frustrated with Firefox,. I just get it working again and Firefox updates and then I have the same issues ... and now my java script is screwing up and it never did before .... this all came after the latest update .... is anyone else having these issues or is my operating system under attack???
Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.
In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:
Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems
Flash 11.3 crashes
Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox

Flash player causes entire system crash with black screen
When watching a video on youtube, streaming on twitch or other things my entire system will crash with the following symptoms:
-Black Screen
-Intermittent stuttering sound
-Only fixable by a hard reboot (holding the power button). The reset button will NOT work. Video will NOT return, it will continue to loop this way until a hard reset.
Your Flash Version
11.9.900
Your browser name
Firefox
Your Operating System (OS)
Windows (Windows 7)
That information taken directly from Adobe's site. Using 64-bit, 8GB of RAM installed. ATI Radeon HD 6850 card. I have done a fresh Win 7 install a couple months ago and JUST NOW put flash back on here...now it's crashing. While times vary before the crash, I just watched a youtube video for less than 5 seconds before it happened.
Upon reboot, I get the "Windows was not shut down properly" message. No "Your system has recovered..." message, however. I've seen very few posts about this and none of the solutions help but this is REALLY pissing me off now. It happened to me before and the only fix was a fresh system install. I'm not doing that again.Hi Mike,
I appreciate the reply. I can run the system for days, literally, doing other tasks such as music through iTunes, gaming through Steam, voice chatting on Ventrilo. The only time I will ever experience this issue will be the five minutes I watch a youtube video or watch a stream on Twitch..
My primary HD is a relatively new Intel SSD. I do have multiple other drives but they're used for storage of media (include aforementioned music).
I have been a youtuber and streamer for a while, and i'd like to try and record the phenominon, but i'll have to do so using an external camera since i'm not sure I can stop and save the recorded data. I'll have to do so I guess so I can give a better idea of the issue occuring.
Thanks again. -
Hello everyone,
Basically, Google Chrome lags a lot when I use PepperFlash and so I have heard that disabling it and using the system flash will have better performance. I have done this but when I disable PepperFlash, the flash videos don't work as it says flash player has crashed. Also, I would like to resolve the lag and bad performance with flash videos on chrome because the video playback on Internet Explorer is a lot better than Chrome(Never thought I would have to say that) atm. A possible solution might be to install 32-Bit Chrome instead
Summary:
Flash videos lag(most likely due to PepperFlash being used according to other people)
When PepperFlash is disabled, the system flash plugin does not work in chrome as it apparently crashes every time.
I would like help on how to resolve the bad performance and be able to use the system flash plugin to have no lag on videos and livestreams.
Thanks,
Talha

Ok so I got a new mac and as usual install firefox which is my favorite browser, suddenly my computer started crashing, not just firefox the whole system froze and I had to reboot to make it work again, I didn't know what was happening until I noticed that said crashes happen when I was watching videos on firefox, I tried to use chrome and the issue was gone. So anyone has any idea why this is happening? I really would love to start using firefox again!
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/> <br/>
# Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
# Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.
This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.
If this does not fix the issue, you may need to reinstall Adobe Flash Player on your computer. -
Is the adobe flash virus affecting the mac operating systems?
Is the adobe flash update virus affecting mac operating systems?
The latest Flash 11 works fine for me on Mavericks, on every site that plays videos.
I have no idea what Xat Flash Chatrooms is (and really have no interest), but it sounds like the issue is with that site, as Flash in general works for literally tens of millions of people on most other sites. -
Flash videos randomly crash all my browsers
Sometimes when trying to watch flash videos e.g Youtube the
browser will just end process and disappear with the error "An
unhandled Win32 exception has occurred". I've tried fresh install
of flash and said browsers with no luck. The problem occurs in IE6,
FIrefox v3.04 and Opera v9.62. Is there anything I can do to get
flash working properly on my system?

Flash video causes my Mac mini to crash displaying blocks of stripes
As you can see from the picture below, flash video sometimes (often though) causes my Mac mini with Intel Graphics HD 3000 crashes while displaying blocks of stripes and repeating "tick" noise. I believe it just plays audio data in a buffer repeatedly at that moment.
It looks to me that it failed in decoding the video. Probably it can be due to mal-formated encoding, but after rebooting if I move the play position to the same spot, it plays there correctly. So, probably somehow when there is somewhat wrong encoded data filled in a buffer to decode but there is some non-allowed operation is processed. ( like divide-by-zero. I don't mean that this one is due to divide-by-zero. ) Can be somewhat related to DCT block....
Flash plugin installed on my Mac : The latest Flash plugins for Mac
Mac Mini with Intel HD graphics 3000. ( last year's model )
is this going to be fixed soon? Probably this is a bug which is already being traced?I haven't seen this occur before. We're going to need some additional info from you. Please see this tech doc for some simple troubleshooting steps (in particular, try the HTML5 vs. Flash video tests and try disabling Flash Player's hardware acceleration). The doc also explains what information we'll need and how you can report the issue to us.
Troubleshoot, report Flash Player video playback issues
