Flashed BIOS now BSOD at splash screen for Windows

I selected the correct version of the bios update by identifying the bios version as advised. Flashed the bios and restarted. At first start up received bad checksum, cleared the cmos restarted computer still getting a BSOD. Downloaded the iso version, ran it on the system still the same problem. I've tried searching for an older bios version but haven't had any luck. Any suggestions would be great.
Update: After speaking with Tech Support they advised to try the other version of the bios update, and it corrected the problem. I guess the directions of checking the bios version in system information is incorrect. So if for some reason the one doesn't work try the other one!

  • Z77A-GD65 Multiple BIOS Issues - B4 Hang, Splash Screen Blinking

    Back in November 2012, I built a home server with a Z77A-GD65.  Lately, I've noticed some strange things happening that I've been trying to research but to no avail.
    First off, I get the B4 code hang-up whenever I'm booting.  This doesn't matter if it's a cold boot or a reboot, it hangs on B4 for about 10-15 seconds, flashes 92 really quick, and then goes to A2 which it stays for another 5 or so seconds.  After that I get the MSI splash screen for about 1 second, then it blinks 5 times.  After that it goes into Windows just fine.
    The blinking is a new issue, the B4 hang is not.  I've read from multiple posts that this is a USB issue.  When I disable USB legacy support, the issue goes away, but of course then I can't have legacy support.  I have yet to figure out what exact device is causing it.  In the process of trying to figure this out, I updated BIOS to A.A0.  After updating to this version of BIOS the splash screen blinks 5 times before going to the "Starting Windows" splash screen.  This is a more difficult issue to figure out why it's doing this because if you search for "BIOS" and "flash" or "flashes" or "flashing", you typically get results for flashing your BIOS.   Hence, why I'm using the term "blinking".  But even then I can't really find a solution out there.
    I also happened to see that the website for the Z77A-GD65 is showing a newer BIOS version, but I'm unable to flash this (at least using M-Flash).  I threw it on a USB, re-enabled USB legacy and whenever I click on it to install, the BIOS screen hard locks.  The screen just freezes exactly where it's at in the BIOS and the mouse is dead.  However, I can CTRL+ALT+DEL on the keyboard and it will reboot the system so I don't need to power cycle the computer.  Not sure why this is happening either.  Perhaps I need to flash this a different way?  Maybe I don't need to flash this at all?
    I could really use some input here on why this is happening.
    As for the specs on my system, they're as follows:
    i7-3770K overclocked to 4.2 Ghz by using the Turbo Mode in BIOS
    32GB Komputerbay DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz DIMM with Low Profile Blue Heatspreaders Quad Channel RAM | 9-9-9-24 XMP ready
    AMD PowerColor 7870 Myst Edition GPU - currently not overclocked although overclocking this doesn't seem to affect any issues

    1 - 750 GB Seagate Barracude 7200 RPM Sata II HDD
    1 - 1 TB Western Digital MyBook USB 2.0 external
    2 - 3 TB Seagate USB 3.0 external
    ASUS DVD Burner - not sure which one, it's a cheapy $20 from Newegg

    NZXT Switch 810 gunmetal - currently have 4 fans running but plan on more, also the Switch 810 has the multi-card reader in the front with 1x SD Card, 2x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0
    for peripherals
    1 - Microsoft 360 Wireless controller adapter (legit one, not the knockoff although I had a knockoff prior to getting the real deal)
    1 - Logitech Wireless USB Keyboard with Touchpad
    I tried to be thorough.  Thanks in advance for any help!

    Probably a USB device problem.
    This is a candidate, as well as mouse and keyboard. Disconnect USB devices one at a time to find the culprit.
    A lot of devices running. PSU a +12V single rail or is it multi rail? A rail going to the graphics or components may not be enough amps. My best guess is the card reader.
    For UEFI/BIOS flashing, select your mainboard here and use the forum flash method;
    I'll definitely try unplugging some of these USB devices to see if that helps with the B4 hang issue.
    As for the PSU, according to the description for it on Newegg:  "Four industry-leading independent +12v rails are provided for more stable and safer power output."  It has two rails going to the GPU.  The GPU is a new addition to the system and so I wasn't running it until recently.  The issues were occurring beforehand, but you're right that this PSU is underpowered for the rig considering PowerColor recommends a minimum of 500w.  I'm going to be buying a larger capacity one sometime in the very near future.  Any recommendations on good modular PSU's?  What's a good way to tell what wattage to get?
    Thanks for letting me know about the forum flash method.  I'll be back later when I have some results.

  • Hp m9500z crashed, able to restart and restore, now no HP splash screen, just hangs

    Hp m9500z crashed, able to restart and restore, now no HP splash screen, just hangs. after unplugging power for several hours, i was able to get system running, ran disk scans for errors, no problem.  few minutes after vista is up it crashed again.  when restarting all fans run full speed, no hp splash screen on boot, nothing.  i have tried resetting CMOS using the jumper trick, nothing.  removed the battery, nothing.  i have even tried the blind tricks i have seen suggested, like pressing F10 for 8 seconds, etc.  during one of the last times before it totally died out i ran the BIOS system diagnosis, everything was fine.  I am thinking I have a corrupted bios.  Any ideas? Could be a fried motherboard, but I am hoping its not that bad.  Product num nh836av-aba.

    From your description I would suggest unplugging the video card and trying the onboard video.  Your mb specs should be these: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01635688&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en

  • Lightroom won't boot -I only get the splash screen for a second.

    I do have the photographers version of the Creative Cloud which included Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom. Everything was working just fine until I upgraded to Lightroom version 5.6. Now when I try to load LR, the slash screen shows for a second then disappears and LR does not load. This occurs on both my Mac (a Mac Pro and a iMac). I uninstalled LR and had creative cloud reinstall but still the same thing is happening  - Splash screen for a second then nothing. Again, this is happening on both Mac's. Photoshop CC 2014 I working just fine.
    Before I call Adobe, any ideas here on this issue. BTW, Creative Cloud App states LR in up to date and installed.
    Thanks

  • Getting increasingly frequent system shutdown with appearance of the apple splash screen for several minutes then back to logon in the middle of using a variety of APPs or just walking on Safari.

    Using an IPAD 2 running 5.0.1 is frequently shutting down in the middle of a variety of Apps and showing the Apple splash screen for several minutes. This happens occasionally at inopportune times. Once the splash screen clears it goes back to the logon screen and the App that was open is closed. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a resolution?

    RockHunter wrote:

    I don't think that there is ever a good time for this to occur.
    What do you mean the Apple splash screen? You see the Apple logo on the screen?
    It appears as though your apps are crashing. Have you tried quitting apps and restarting? Reset the iPad?
    Quit all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Creating a splash screen for your app.

    Im trying to create a splash screen for my app but im not too sure how it's done.
    Im using the following piece of code.
    public static void main(String[] args)
              JPanel display = new JPanel();
              display.setPreferredSize(new Dimension( (300), (200) ));
              display.setBackground(Color.white);
                   // I WILL PUT AN IMAGE ICON ON A JLABEL HERE
              display.setVisible(true);
                   // I WILL NEED A DELAY HERE
              test.instance();
    }The problem I am having is that the JPanel is not being displayed. I will also need a way to create a delay, I know that I can't just use Thread.sleep(5000); because the JPanel will require the thread to be running in order to display the panel.
    Does anyone know how I could get my JPanel to display and somehow insert a delay before test.instance();?
    Thanks.

    I made my own a few days before for a database program. It can be easily done with Threads.
    I recommend you create a new class to be used as the spalsh screen , it has to extends JFrame and implements Runnable.
    I ll give you an example. I used the spash screen to display the screen and also to laod the main GUI form so that when the spash screen dispose, the main GUI form displays instantly, making the user think that the application loads faster.
    public void run ()
            try
                 this.setVisible(true);
                 Thread.sleep(2000);
                 // sets the menu visible before disposing
                 guiMenu.setVisible(true);
                 // disposes the object and returns the resources to the OS
                 this.dispose();
            catch(InterruptedException exception)
                exception.printStackTrace();
    // this method must be implement in the class
    // that implements Runnable interface
    //MAIN
    public class Main
        public static void main(String[] args)
            Menu menu = new Menu();
            SplashScreen introScreen = new SplashScreen(menu);
            ExecutorService splashExecutor= Executors.newFixedThreadPool(1);
            splashExecutor.execute(introScreen);
    }ExecutorService is a subinterface of Executor that declares methods for managing the threads. It also has the method execute (that provides the Executor interface) which when invoked calls the method public void run() of the argument class that must implement Runnable.
    Executors.newFixedThreadPool(1); creates a poll consisting of a 1 thread which is been used by splashExecutor to execute the Runnable.
    Hope i've been of some assistance!

  • Excel 2013 stalling at splash screen for files in use by others

    Excel 2013 is stalling (and not opening) when trying to open a file that is in use by another user. In office 2010 it would prompt the user to open in read-only mode, but in 2013 it seems to just stall and never open. It just stays on the splash screen
    for ever. We have done some testing and it appears that double clicking on an excel file causes this to occur, but will function correctly if the file is opened through excel's file browser.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?  It's a pain to make
    all the users open excel first, then browse through a lengthy network location.  Thanks in advance!
    For information purposes: these are files on a network location shared by many users.

    Hi,
    Did the issue occur when you just installed the Office 2013 or after using Office 2013 sometimes? I recommend we try the following methods and test to check if they are helpful.
    1. Click the File tab>Options>Advanced>scroll down to the General section>Clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the General area.
    2. Install the latest Cumulative Update for Excel
    3. Right click on the Start Button>Click 'Open Windows Explorer'> click Organize > Layout> Uncheck Details Pane and Preview Pane.
    On a Windows menu, click on Tools > Folder Options.  In the box that opens up, click on the View tab.  Scroll down the list to “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items” and clear the checkbox and then click OK.
    4. Check/Disable the Excel add-ins
    5. Repair Office.
    Hope it's helpful.

  • OpenSUSE-inspired splash screen for GIMP

    I saw this (old) openSUSE splash screen for GIMP and quite liked it:
    And so I created a new version of it, using Inkscape.  The PNG splash screen should be placed in $HOME/.gimp-2.6/splashes/ (or .gimp-2.7/ if you're using gimp-devel).  The font used is FifthLeg, which is based upon the font used in the openSUSE splash, and can be found in the AUR under otf-fifthleg: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23740.
    The quick install (original version):
    mkdir -p $HOME/.gimp-2.8/splashes
    wget http://oi43.tinypic.com/s33fo9.jpg -O $HOME/.gimp-2.8/splashes/gimp-splash.png
    Here is the SVG file, in case you want to scale it up/down or change anything for your usage:
    http://www.mdn.fm/files/100696_f4f0h/gimp-splash.svg
    Screenshot:
    EDIT: Switched image hosting from ImageShack to TinyPic ... ImageShack has been very unreliable in the past few years.
    EDIT: Updated links (TinyPic is forcing the extension to JPG for whatever reason, but the file itself is a PNG). SVG link is dead.

    Yes, I appreciate the irony there.  I wanted it to be easily scalable, and I didn't want to make some gigantic XCF.
    That and, I wanted to learn a little more about Inkscape.  The combination of the two (GIMP, Inkscape) is outstanding.

  • Customize Welcome Screen for Windows 7

    Scenario
    Windows 7 displays the Welcome screen which contains a list of available user accounts when the computer is a part of a workgroup or homegroup.
    This article describes how to customize Welcome screen for Windows 7, and there are two display style for choice:
    Logon screen
    Last logon user and others
    Summary
    Method 1: Logon Screen
    The Logon screen requires users to type a logon name rather than selecting an account from a list of available accounts.
    Click Start, and type gpedit.msc in the Search to
    launch Group Policy Editor;
    Expand to the policy entry Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Optionss;
    Double-Click the policy Interactive logon: Do not display last user name, click
    Enabled, and then click OK;
    Click Start, and type cmd in the Search box. Right-click
    cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click
    Run as administrator. Type gpupdate /force and press
    Enter to refresh the Group Policy.
    After logging off or switching user, the customized welcome screen will be as shown below.
    Method 2: Last logon user and others
    Click Start, and type gpedit.msc in the Search to
    launch Group Policy Editor;
    Expand to the policy entry Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options. Check the security setting
    Interactive logon: Do not display last user name to be disabled.
    Click Start, and type regedit in the Search to
    launch Registry Editor;
    Locate to keyHKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList;
    Right-click on ProfileList, then click New>Key, name it
    .default.
    Restart you PC or refresh Registry Editor by pressing F5.
     After logging off or switching user, the customized welcome screen will be as shown below:
    Applies to
    Windows 7 Professional
    Windows 7 Enterprise
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Windows 7 SP1 Professional
    Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise
    Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate
    Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

    Another customization:
    To give your logon screen corporate design or individual style you can follow these steps:
    In registry editor navigate to the key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background".
    Create a new DWORD value OEMBackground and assign value 1. (Value 0 resets to the original logon screen.)
    In C:\Windows\system32\oobe\info create the folder backgrounds, if it does not exist.
    Put your custom picture into this folder under the name backgroundDefault.jpg.
    Attention: maximum supported file size is 256 KByte, so shrink them with a tool like Irfanview or Image Resizer Powertoy Clone.
    If you want to use different pictures for different screen resolutions, you can do so by naming them backgroundXXXXxYYYY.jpg, i.e. background1920x1200.jpg for the resolution 1920 x 1200. If the resolution does not match any of the given file names, Windows
    will fall back to backgroundDefault.jpg.
    Best greetings from Germany

    How can I make a SplashScreen with Flash CS5.5 or just with AIR/AS3 codes. I need it while the App/Game is loading...
    I know that it's possible with Flex 4.5 as:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:ViewNavigatorApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"

    Thank you

    i'm not sure if this is necessary anymore, but i took the advise of another user here
