Flashes Before My Eyes!

I downloaded Captivate 4.0 trial and have since purchased and
installed the "real program".
I imported a .ppt for my slides.
I converted .mpg files to .flv with Flash video encoder and
inserted in various slides.
I created a quiz at the end of the presentation in Captivate.
The Captivate file size is 2.8M
Other than making a few cosmetic adjustments, I published to
Flash. Everything worked great. Now, all of a sudden when I try to
publish...even just review...the slides literally flash before my
eyes.
I have 42 slides, 21 of which are a combination of text and
video, the remaining are dedicated to a quiz. I've tried deleting
earlier versions, deleted my browser history, deleted temporary
files...everything I could think of that could possibly be causing
this "slide flashing" at random. Nothing is working. Has anyone run
into this problem before? Don't know if it's something with the
software or my hardware.

The movie fast fowards to the end. But it's not like I can
see each individual slide and it just moves faster than I can read.
The navigation "skin" used to be at the bottom of the slide
and I could either click on the "next" arrow or just move the
"slider" to get to the next slide. Now the navigation is somewhere
at the top, the "next" arrow is in the middle of the page with no
control attached to it and the slides just "flash" until I exit
out.
I am going to attempt to start all over again...maybe there's
a setting I missed...maybe I shouldn't include the quiz at the end
of the presentation, but rather make it a separate file and direct
the last slide to go to that file...don't know at this point.
From what I can remember, when I used the default buttons
within the quiz ("submit" or "back") everything worked fine. When I
went in and changed the defaults to an image button for those same
commands, it went screwey!

  • Please, please help!  Photos in library disappearing before my eyes.

When I open up the iphoto library, my picture thumbnails disappear one after the next--from seemingly random places, though mostly on the right hand side)--before my eyes. My worry is that I am going to loose all my photos.
History: I have never had any problem with my iphoto program. I have never altered, moved, or renamed anything in the iPhoto library folder. I always work from within the program itself. A couple of days ago, I got a message saying I was running out of hard disk space and that I needed to eliminate some items in order to make more space. I clicked on the iPhoto trash and emptied about 2000 photos from it. After that when I scrolled in the library, the photos began to disappear and leave gray shapes with dotted outlines. No picture appears when they are clicked on.
I called the Apple Care support. The fellow I worked with suggested that I should try rebuilding iPhoto and sent me an article on how to do that. He also said that I will need to have as much free space on my hard disk as the size of the library is. The library is 16,000 MB. There are 6,000 MB still available to use. He said NOT to open up the iPhoto program until I had rebuilt the program and then he rang off.
I'm pretty innocent of how computers work and it wasn't until I realized that it's the photos and Quicktime movies from my camera themselves that are filling the disk space and that there isn't much else filling up the disk space (novels and poems and letters don't take up much space it turns out!) that I realized I am in a Catch-22 situation. How to eliminate things when I can't open the program for fear of losing all photos?
I have some but not all photos backed up on DVD. My husband has a selection on his computer but does not have the DVD burner capacity. He could burn the photos he has on a CD, but that would take forever. We do not own an external hard drive, but I am wondering whether I should see if I can find one--that's easier said than done since we live out on a headland in Ireland pretty far from everything. The closer Apple store in five hours away.
One other possibility I've come up with: we have an old PowerBookG4 which still has about 22,000 GB available on it. Could it be used in some way to hold the photos from my computer (The MacBook) as I try rebuilding the iPhoto program on my computer (the MacBook)? We have a firewire.
We are going to Paris next week, and I want to be able to take a ton of photos (my great joy!) without worrying that I'll have nowhere to put them. (Memory cards are expensive here.)
Any help would be very appreciated--thank you in advance. And I'd also be grateful if it were couched in the easiest to understand computer language possible (don't assume I know a whole lot.)

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    1. Go to your Pictures Folder. In their is a folder called the iPhoto Library Folder. Inside it is a folder called Originals, and that contains Roll Folders. Your pics should be inside there.
That's: Pictures / iPhoto Library Folder / Originals / Rolls
So, first off, confirm that your photos are there.
    2. Yes you do need to clear off disk space, and yes, your iPhoto files and any music you have a good candidates for moving to an external disk. You can purchase an external disk from the online apple Store (http//:www.apple.com/iestore is the Irish AppleStore) Look for the 'Storage' link on the left hand side. They'll ship it to you in three or four days (in my experience)
    3. In the meantime, rebuilding your library will require disk space. It's not difficult, and doesn't take very long. If you have Firewire on the old Powerbook then here's what you do:
    1. Turn Off the Old Powerbook. Connect it to the Macbook using a FireWire cable
    2. Hold down the 'T' key and start the Powerbook. A Firewire symbol will appear on the screen, and the PB will turn up on your MacBook desktop, as an external disk.
    3. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder (from your Pictures Folder) to the PB - just drag and drop it to the icon on the desktop.
    4. Confirm that your Pictures have crossed over safely. Then double check. And then check again, because...
    5. Put the iPhoto Library Folder in the Pictures Folder of the MacBook into the trash and empty it. (Note: Be sure that your pics are on the old Powerbook!!!) (We have to trash the iPhoto Library Folder from the MacBook to make space for the rebuild.)
    6. Launch iPhoto on the Macbook. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on the PB and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
This should give you a working iPhoto Library on your Macbook.
But you still have a space problem, and you should deal with it as a priority. Once you have got an external disk, post back and we'll go through how to put your library on to it.
    Greetings from sunny Clare.

  • Flash in iWeb- a white square flashes before video loads......

hey there- i am trying to put flash into iweb. It works, using code from iWebunlimited, but there is a white box that flashes before the video loads... I've tried so many different encoders, iweb code, etc..
    see it here:
    http://web.me.com/misterscott
Any idea as to what is causing the white flash before the video?
    thanks so much......!!
    scott

i am trying to put flash into iweb
You succeeded as far as I could determine.
Anyway. The browser needs to download the files, puts them into place and render the lot.
    That takes some time.
Also, every brand of browser has its way of doing that.
And black and white on a page is the largest contrast you can imagine. Use less contrasting colors.

  • GPO to uninstall Flash before installing 10.1.53.64

When pushing out a software installation for the new install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi, it leaves previous versions installed even though Adobe's Flash test site says that the latest version is installed and in use. However, I'm sure that it is probably "best practice" to push out a script to uninstall all previous versions of Flash [i.e. uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall] before installing the latest version (10.1.53.64).
Is anyone using a GPO to push out a script to uninstall the previous versions of Flash before running the .MSI or .EXE to install the latest version (10.1.53.64)?We have several Flash versions out there, so attempting to Upgrade from an old GPO package AD isn't thorough enough.
I've tried running the uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall file (as a .VBS) with a precedence of 1 before the software installation GPO (as startup scripts), but it produces mixed results, so I'm not sure that this is the best method.
    So, two questions here:
    1) Does anyone forsee any real issue leaving previous versions installed (i.e. not uninstalling before installing new)?
    2) Otherwise, how is everyone handling uninstalling and reinstalling via GPO? Better suggestions on how to and in what order to push out the uninstall and install processes?
    Thanks much for your suggestions!

I am not using GPO, but to the best of my knowledge, the installer should automatically uninstall all previous FP versions.  See the install.log file (if that is produced using GPO).
However, sometimes the installer is unable to remove all components of old FP versions, e.g. if the users have web browsers running during the installation.  This may get fixed during the next reboot, but often it is not.

  • Thumbnails disappear before my eyes??

    Hi
I've just upgraged to CS5,  when I go in to a folder of images using Bridge I can see them all as previews then before my eyes random ones start to disappear and are replaced by the Mac Jpeg logo. What I can't understand is why it is only happening to some. The photos were taken at the same time and are of a similar size? If I purge the cache the same thing happens again, only some the jpegs remain as previews?
All help gratefully received - it's driving me crazy!
Just noticed something the ones that aren't appearing say 'Dot Gain 20%' in the info panel - the other ones say 'Adobe RGB'?
    Many thanks

If I purge the cache the same thing happens again, only some the jpegs remain
    as previews?
That is a strange problem, could you specify a bit more. Are they right out
of camera or are the developed using ACR?
    Could you provide a screenshot?
And can you try to copy them to a new folder to rule out folder corruption.
And are all the files on your system or do you use a network?

Do I need to need to uninstall old adobe flash before new version can be installed?

No, the Adobe installer will simply over-write the earlier version.

  • IPhone 6 notes disappeared before my eyes

While accessing the notes on my iPhone 6, they disappeared before my eyes. I don't have a yahoo account and they weren't sent to my charter email - any clues as to where I should look next? I'm quite frustrated as there were some important notes there.

  • Power supply cable melting before my eyes

I finally joined the famed club of the dead power supply owners.
I've had several issues lately with my macbook (while never had any although owner of the very first release of it), mainly with freezing windows, slow reaction time etc.
running Activity Viewer for the past couple days, I could spot mdmimport (Spotlight index daemon) acting quite berserk.
taking up to 97% of my CPU (today it even said it took 128%???).
anyway, I thought it was a fragmented hard drive, giving a hard time to index content, but the weird thing is that I regularly use diskwarrior to adjust the content disposition.
a very weird behavior was that the laptop seemed to start hogging the CPU only on-idle (doesn't that sound a bit odd?).
while the screen was black (after the screensaver timed out) the CPU fan was going berserk, and the power supply was sure close to melting point.
I was saying I kept the Spotlight daemon under control, and noticed that it kept taking all the CPU time.
the curious bit: what the **** are you indexing if maybe only 5 files have changed since yesterday and maybe couple dozens email?
today we got to the boiling point:
I work at some friends' office, go back home, use my laptop on battery.
the battery reaches 3% and I plug the power supply in.
no magsafe light going on, smell, the cable melting before my eyes.
luckily I had some friends with a spare power supply, but had to get to the root of it.
I decided to turn off indexing. ran
    %sudo mdutil -i off /
the indexing of the main drive stops.
I've been using my tiger for a few hours already with no visible sign of fatigue, delays, cpu stress.
the cpu fan runs regularly but quite (consider it's a hot weather and my home is at 27ºC).
oh, if you're any curious, do you want to know when all this started?
    mh... let me thing...
with one of the most recent Security Updates.
I don't remember which one, but it's not been longer than 10 days. probably a week.
anyone seeing any light in this?

I am convinced that the melting of the magsafe adapter in 99% of the cases is caused by improperly removing your power cord to many times. Don't pull!

  • Black screen flashes before opening gmail

Hi, recently I updated to Firefox 4.0. Since then, every time I visit gmail.com a black screen appears. After a split second it disappears again and the usual gmail log in screen shows up. Why is that and how can I get rid of that black screen flashing before gmail loads? Has it something to do with the ad-ons adblock, flashblock and noscript I installed? They never caused any trouble in Firefox 3.x

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Screen flash before rotation

hi all, i installed a new video driver today (updated to newest), and all of a sudden my screen is flashing before it rotates when i flip it to tent mode or tablet mode. to be specific, when i flip the screen over, the screen flashes off and back on, before rotating. this has never happened before. i'm wondering if anybody else has run into this problem and has a fix?
    thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i've tried both of those options, with no avail. i ended up just clean installing windows 8.1 using my recovery usb. it was likely an incompatibility with the tech preview build, just weird that it happened so suddenly when i've had no problem with it for the month that i had the w10 build.
thanks for all the help guys

  • 1 GB Gone in 15m - Disk Space Ticking Away Before My Eyes

(I have searched the forums here and elsewhere to the best of my ability, and haven't found a discussion of rapid space loss like that here. Forgive me if I've overlooked, and thank you for pointing me in the right direction.)
My disk space is disappearing before my eyes. In the time it tooke me to right the sentence, the count went from 14.77 GB to 14.72. It's only that much because I've been moving things off the drive to create more space. Earlier it ticked all the way down to 65mb, and I couldn't start the computer anymore. I've looked at various threads about freeing space, and I'm applying those suggestions, but the problem is that the space is disappearing almost as fast as I can clear it. I used Whatsize (paid, non-appstore version), and didn't see any enormous strange folders. I did notice that, back when I was at 65mb, Disk Utility showed the disk as having 999 GB on it, while Whatsize said 984.
Any help would be very appreciated.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Erase Flash before copying?

    Hi
If I get a new router, and try to copy a file from tftp to flash, it copies the file without disturbing what's there.
If I erase the flash, from that point it always prompts me to erase the flash before copying and I have to explicity press N or ESC to prevent it being wiped.
What changes this behaviour? Can I do something after the flash is erased the first time to stop this prompt appearing??
    Anyone?
    Thanks
    Aaron

I had this same problem and always thought it was just me. This is all I can find which really doesn't help that much but gives a little insite on how it works:
!--- On Class B Flash file systems, the router gives you the option of erasing
!--- the existing contents of Flash memory before writing to it. If no free Flash
!--- memory is available, or if no files have ever been written to Flash memory,
!--- the erase routine is required before new files can be copied. If there is
!--- enough free Flash memory, the router gives you the option of erasing the
!--- existing Flash memory before writing to it. The system will inform you
!--- of these conditions and prompt you for a response.
!--- If you enter 'n' after the "Erase flash before writing?" prompt, the copy
!--- process continues. If you enter 'y' and confirm the erasure, the erase
!--- routine begins. Be sure to have ample Flash memory space before entering "n"
    !--- at the erasure prompt.
I would also look into the 'squeeze' command. When i have an extra router my way i'll test it out.

  • How can I prevent white screen flash before loading page?

Hi, I have a serious issue with this macbook including versions from mountain lion to maverick (now).
THe problem is stated in the title.
Sometimes when I load the next page, it would flash white then loads the page. It hurts my eyes to see this happen often. Sometimes it loads it with the websites background, sometimes it doesn't and uses safari's white blank page.
I have disabled extensions and restarted safari and the computer with them off - it doesn't help or change or prevent it.
I have switched the "open with new blank page" to other options as well with extensions off - it still didn't help.
Please help me resolve this issue as every night it gives me eyes surprises of white flashes.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.
Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
