Flashing Album Art on Desktop

I have just encountered a perplexing problem. In another application (PhotoStudio) today I was examining various keyboard shortcuts. iTunes was open. Apparently, one of those shortcuts enables an iTunes feature that searches for the current track and floats any associated album artwork on the desktop. It goes away only when iTunes has been quit.
But even when it's not open, the desktop (Finder?) continues to look for artwork. The desktop area where the artwork would be places flashes very briefly -- maybe .25 second -- every 5 seconds.
Any suggestions?

Thank you for your response, but the issue is not so simple. Album art is embeded for sure. I've edited all the tags properly. I do know smth about it, believe me)) And the album art IS displayed, BUT only if I open Music+Videos or Nokia Music apps and within these apps, not on the desktop. But I want the album art to be displayed ALSO on the desktop (+lock screen, if possible) while music is playing in backgroud mode. It is just the issue of design, and I wonder if I could somehow contact developers to fix this. I think, this would only popularize Windows Phone and would make the desktop more bright and dinamic.
To make it clear I attach two screenshots.
You can see the same track playing. Album art is displayed in Music+Videos app
BUT it is not displayed on the desktop (only artist name on the grey backgroud; I've circled it red)
So I want album art to be displayed on the desktop TOO. Is it clear now?
Thanks in advance

  • Possible to use album art as desktop?

Is is possible to have ITunes display the album artwork for the current song as the desktop pattern. A utility or addition to ITunes to do this would be a nice feature.

I go to Amazon (or any other place that has the album cover I want) and look up the album. Right mouse click on the picture and select "set as background"!
I have a rather nice piccie of Tom Waits at the moment!
You might have to do it a couple of times with different sized pictures to get decent quality - but it takes nan-seconds to do! And the possibilities are endless!

The log points to a possibly corrupted album art image, but it would be desirable if the Desktop manager could simply ignore that exception and resume the import. Has anybody else encountered this problem?

After having no itunes media sync issues with my 238 albums, other than album art for "Greatest Hits" albums getting mixed up, i have found that DM 6 gets the album art correct, but will not sync approximately 238 of 1500 files.  Who knows how to fix this one.  I am through with RIM, Blackberry and DM.  I don't understand why they can't get this stuff right.

  • Adding Album Art to iTunes Local Folder?

I have a setup on iTunes on my Dell Dimension Desktop Machine. Basically I have uploaded ALL my CD collection to HDD in WAV format to retain sound quality.
My problem is with getting all the Album Art to work.
About one third of my collection iTunes does not have the Album Art? so I have scanned it all manually and placed an Folder.jpg in each Album/Track Folder.
I appreciate that WAV music files don't have a means of adding extra data to them like MP3 files, therefore, iTunes saves its own downloaded Album Art in a folder called "Download", there is also another Folder called "Local" which is where your manually added Album Art should go?
These are stored as .itc files
However then I try to manually try to add my own album art to the album, by selecting all tracks, Get info, Add album art to the white square and pressing OK nothing happens?
In the Artwork display box it say in large text "Artwork Not Modifiable"? for some reason?
    Any ideas??

Hi Andrew. As far as plug&play, I have not found anything. My best bet was to use a proper utility to grab album art on a go forward basis for all new tracks, and then for the old tracks that have the incorrect metadata, I slowly go through, open up a browser with amazon.com loaded, and then search for the albums/related art that I need. Once I find it I click on the album art in the main browser, which spawns a child window with just the jpeg of the album art in it, and then drag and drop it from that browser into the album art pane. Far from plug and play, but it gets the job done.

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • This is definitely NOT your mother's Album Art Dilemma...

Alright guys, need some help. I was getting curious about winamp the other day, and I must confess, I left my beloved iTunes for a copy of my friend's Winamp Pro account. He put it on my computer and I sifted through all the problems that comes with using a new media player (some album art wasn't appearing anymore, some genres got messed up, etc) so I changed them all back to the way they were. About a week ago I was getting sick of winamp and wanted to get back to my old faithful iTunes. So I completely uninstalled winamp (started by going through the control panel uninstall, then noticed that the uninstall wasn't completely full, so I had to get advice from the winamp boards on how to completely uninstall winamp. Turned out I had to go into the system registry and delete some stuff, so I did so. Anyway, I THOUGHT I uninstalled everything... but it seems as though there's still a problem... I converted everything back to iTunes, and now some of my album art won't show up. So you're thinking: "Just select the songs, drag and drop the artwork and you're done," right? Wrong my friends. My iTunes was in pristine condition, everything was perfect. And now, for a few of my albums, the album art is no longer a differentiable parameter. In other words, I select all the songs from an album, click "get info," drag the artwork into the box, click "ok," and nothing happens... seriously... nothing. And I've tried going into each individual song and adding the artwork... Tried dragging the artwork into the lower lefthand box that shows album art (the one that says "drag album artwork here")... Pretty much tried everything...
So, if you decided not to read all that, here's the short version. My album art is no longer a tweakable parameter. After switching to and back from winamp, my album artwork simply does not show up for some albums, and iTunes won't let me add artwork in any way (trust me... I've tried 'em all). Any suggestions?
Oh, and also, one weird thing is that, for a short while, the album art would not show up in the cover flow mode, but it would show up in the lower lefthand box when the song was selected. After switching to another song, the album art "magically" appeared in the cover flow... hmmmmm.....
    HELP PLEASE!!

I used to have this problem whenever I brought music home from work (co-workers would bring it in and I'd take it home on a flash drive).
I found that there was something in the ID3 from WMP-9 that iTunes-6 wouldn't get around so the artwork was unchangeable.....until:
I selected all the songs that I couldn't add art for, and then went to Advanced, and chose "convert to mp3 - now "create mp3 version").
One iTunes had made a new copy, suddenly I could add the artwork.

  • ITunes album view not working and no album art?

    Hi all -
Bought a 64GB iPhone 5 and uploaded my music via my desktop - all seems to have run fine, except that album artwork isn't showing for many of them, even when I select the option "View artwork".
I've read on another thread that ID3 tags of 2.3 or lower are not supported, but find it hard to accept there's no compatibility here - so am presuming user error rather than Apple trying to force users to manually update all their albums (I have 57GB of music - don't want to update album art on everything!)
Also, I've just downloaded and installed iTunes on my laptop, and connected the iPhone to laptop. However, the album view options aren't working. All songs are simply listed by album name, but none of the column listing features work either (ie, sort by name, genre, etc).
I presumed iTunes had crashed, but restarting the laptop and the same happens. Am on latest software for iTunes and iOS 6.
One more curiosity - how do I download my music from the iPhone to the desktop? I had presumed it would do this automatically (ie, into the iTunes media folder) but so far nothing.
Or is it simply the case that iTunes is preparing to download all music into the desktop, hence why it's not working properly? Simply because there's no notice of anything happening.
Apologies for any newbie questions - found myself using the iPad quite a lot for apps, but never for music as it was only the 16GB version, so have been sold into joining the Apple walled garden. Would be nice to get these issues sorted out, though.

    Hi David
Yes, I found the importer now. I also fixed my problem, but with 'brute force':
For each of the folders not being indexed, including the ~/Library/Mail folder, I turned on Privacy in the Spotlight System Prefs and then turned it off again. This seems to have fixed things. I did this for some old document folders too and that also seems to have worked.
So far so good. thanks again. For now I'm marking this as solved.

  • Album art on iPod Touch

Help! I've downloaded Album art for every song on my iPod Touch - although the album art matches each song correctly in my iTunes library on my desktop, about 1/3 of the songs have the incorrect album art on my iPod. For example, a song by Chicago that has Chicago album art on my iTunes library, displays album art for Flo Rida when that Chicago song is playing on my iPod. Some songs have the correct album art, but others do not. I've tried to delete the album art, re-download it and then reload the song to my iPod, but it doesn't always work. Any suggestions?

Fixed my problem with the artwork. I just went to amazon.com and searched for the albums where the artwork was getting mixed up on my iPod Touch. I would right click on the album artwork on amazon.com and select copy. Then I would select all the songs from that album in my iTunes and right click to get info for all the album tracks. Then just paste the album artwork. It took two syncs (for some reason), but at least now all my album artwork is right in both my iTunes library and iPod Touch. Easy to do, but time consuming. One downside, some images on amazon.com aren't the highest quality. In those cases I would do a google search of the album name and click the images tab to find the best quality images. Then use the same copy and paste technique.

  • I can't add album art

When I try to add album art to, well my album, the image I choose is not sticking. My album is also in a playlist.
Here is what I am doing.
Select all (every song in the playlist is from the same album I would like to add album art to.)
    Click 'Get Info'
Drag a picture from my desktop to the little artwork box in the bottom right hand corner and click the little check box next to it.
    Click 'ok'.
Wait a few seconds.  Nothing happens.
Now the problem is, after I go through those steps the image does not transfer over to the songs. Individually or for the whole album.
I thought it would be a computer issue or one of those weird things where the album art shows on my iPad but not my computer so I tried sycing my iPad up and still nothing.
A couple of things as well:
I did click ADVANCED > GET ALBUM ARTWORK, it does not work.
I did not buy the album from iTunes, I bought it as a digital download from a different site.
I converted all the songs to AAC, I ust thought it would help.
There is no option to add album artwork to individual songs.  On an individual song, I click "get info" but there is no option to add art work to individual songs.
As of 7/24/12, I have the most recent version of iTunes.
Please help, this can't be this complicated.

    As someone's investigation like below;
It is NOT working the way of adding an Album Art in your POD

  • Album art not shown in finder

Embedded album art in audio files is not shown in finder since I upgraded to ML (worked fine in SL).
Other peaple report a solution of the problem with elimination of Voice Memos. But in my case this is not evident because I do not have Voice Memos.
Does somebody know the solution of the problem?

After hours struggling with this issue I finally found a solution (my setup is iTunes 10.7, OSX 10.8.3):
(But my workaround is only for people who know how to handle iTunes libraries!!! And backup first!!)
Open a new user account on your mac.
Generate a new iTunes library called 'itunes', no other name!
Import some files with embedded album art.
Drag such a file back to desktop and you should see the icon of album art.
Everything is like it should be.
Now copy this new itunes library to your user account of origin.
But first rename your old iTunes library different from 'itunes' e.g. 'itunesorigin'
Open the new iTunes and drag one file to desktop, now miraculosly all audiofiles in all of your itunes libraries should show up album art IN FINDER including preview and quicklook.
But this state is not stable. As soon as you open the old 'itunesorigin' the problem starts up again.
    So, the next steps are:
Open the new iTunes and in preferences select the media folder of 'itunesorigin'. OK, say no to 'collate data'. Close iTunes.
Now copy and replace from 'itunesorigin' to the new iTunes the following files:
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Library.xml
Open the new iTunes and it should look like the old 'iTunesorigin' with all your playlists etc..
    Close again.
Move the media folder from 'iTunesorigin to the new iTunes folder (replace).
Open new iTunes and select in preferences the new location of the media folder.
Now you should have the file iTunes Music Library.xml instead of iTunes Library.xml.
(iTunes Music Library.xml is the default if you have multiple libraries)
Done! For me its stable and I am happy. Your iTunes folder should look like this picture:

  • How do I disable detached Album Art window in iTunes 10?

    Hello,
In iTunes 9, whenever playing any music with album art, iTunes would not attempt to detach a separate window.
However, new in iTunes 10, every time I play a song that has album artwork, iTunes will automatically detach a small separate popup window that is supposed to show the album artwork for that song (I say "supposed', because the album artwork never shows up in this window; it's always just pitch black), as well as playback controls when you mouse over that detached window.
Also, whenever you try to close this album artwork popup window, song playback also stops! So one is forced to keep it open the entire time iTunes is playing music that happens to have album artwork.
I would like to remove this detached popup window and never have it show up, as it increases clutter with an extra window on my desktop, and most importantly, I did not instruct iTunes to open a separate window in the first place.
I searched iTunes preferences exhaustively and could not find an option to disable this album artwork popup window.
Is there a defaults write com.apple.iTunes command that can disable it? Or some other way to get iTunes to stop always automatically displaying this separate album artwork popup window? (And NO, I don't want to just minimize it).
    Thank you.

Do you mean iTunes 10 or 11?
I'm pretty sure this is controlled by the import settings for CDs.  Go to "preferences->general",
and click "Import settings" next to the CD line.  You can select MP3 or AAC there.

  • Album art not matching up when synced from itunes to ipad2?

Has anyone had this issue. Songs are correct but they matched up with the wrong album art?

    I think you're right KeRaMa19.
I also have my iPod set up to be managed manually. I don't want to take up hard drive space on my boot drive with 130GB of music (I back up all my music to an external HD).
I think that, unlike the prior version of iTunes, iTunes 11 doesn't access the iPod's Album Art cache… though with BBEdit (display hidden files, enable everything), I see that there is a database on my iPod under *iPodName* / iPod_Control / Artwork / ArtworkDB
Curiously, the ArtworkDB file is only 1.7MB. However, I have 4 .ithmb files that are 73.6MB, 460.2MB, 13.8MB and 66 KB (and 2 .tmp files that are 1.5MB and 16KB).
The other curious thing is that, when I use iPod Access to copy/rip songs from my iPod to my desktop, the resulting copies of the mp3's DO display the artwork in iTunes when I play them (off my desktop).
As I said, it appears that iTunes 11 no longer accesses the artwork database on the iPod. I hope they fix that, because it's an inconvenient pain in the a§§

  • ITunes album art screen saver

Hi, recently when I use my iTunes album art work as a screen saver the albums have a purple tint to them. It hasn't always been like that so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello howwow,
In iTunes, select the song. Get info (command+I), click on the Artwork Tab at the top. You can drag the image from there to the desktop. Double click it to open it in the Finder, copy the image- just press command+c.
Open Preview, type command+n, this will create a New From Clipboard image of your artwork. Save it as a Jpeg or Pict. Repeat with each song you want and create the folder for your screen saver.

  • ITunes 9.0.2 rejects album art from Safari drag source

When editing audio tracks in iTunes 9.0.2 (25), I find that I can no longer directly drag and drop album art from remote Internet-based source in Safari into the album art space when I get info on tracks. The drag and drop operation signals that it receptive to the drop action by displaying a target rectangle around the album art space, but the album art refuses to copy to the files. The workaround is to drag the image file from Safari to the Finder desktop, then drag it from the desktop to the album art spot in iTunes.
Can anyone else confirm this bug?

This is the post I did a few days back:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2215713&tstart=0
Roy B suggested you can drag the artwork from Safari directly to the lower left corner of the main iTunes window. There are two inconvenience problems:
    (1) You have to be playing the song in order to drag the artwork.
    (2) Because it si located in the lower left, I always have to move iTunes window over in order to drag the artwork from Safari.

  • Adding scanned art for Album Art

I followed the itunes help on this topic and checked out some of the previous threads about album art with no real solutions to my problem:
I am using iTunes 7 and my brother just recorded an indie album which I added to my iTunes library. I then scanned the CD cover and made two copies:
a .psd file of 250x249 pixels
a .jpg file of 250x249 pixels
The iTunes Help says to command-click each item in the album, choose "Get Info" and then drag and drop the art into the little artwork box in the window. That kind of works. The file appears in the little window, but when I close the "Get Info" window on those items, the album art is not there. I also tried Browsing to the file with the same results. I tried both the JPG and the PSD file.
I also tried dragging the file from my desktop onto a single file and that won't "stick" at all. If I have a single song selected and try to drag the file from the desktop to the album art viewer, it won't go at all. It just "bounces" back to its spot on the desktop.
Is there a certain file type or size? I am the administrator of the computer. I tried things like ejecting the CD before dropping the art work on and I tried changing the iTunes view from the new "album art carousel" look to the standard iTunes view.
    What could be wrong? Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There really is no standard file size, however, "less is plenty" applies. Jpeg is sufficient, and since it's basically for screen resolution on either the monitor or iPod, then the file sizes you mention are more than sufficient.
Odd, the artwork is not sticking. I usually copy/paste into the Artwork panel for a single selection. Multiple selections are similar to what you tried - drag/drop to the artwork panel, which automatically checks the box to the left of the panel. Upon selecting OK, iTunes updates the album or multiple selections (usually taking 20 seconds or so).
Might try moving the com.apple.iTunes.plist file in your User Library>Preferences folder to the desktop and restarting iTunes. You may have a corrupted preference file. On the restart, iTunes creates a new preference file. See if the artwork functionality is restored. If not, return the file to its original location. If the artwork placement does work, then you'll need to restore any custom iTunes preferences.
    Post back with results.
