Flashing amber-APUtil can't read configuration

I'm fighting with my Time Capsule. The amber light is flashing but when I go to the AirPort Utility and it tries to read the configuration of the Time Capsule, it waits and waits and finally times out with an error window telling me an error had occurred and that I should check my connections and try again.
Well as it happens I currently HAVE internet connection and I'm just trying to stop the amber flash (as well as the AP Express to be recognized by APUtil which it currently is not).
THoughts?

Okay, I got cocky and tried getting the APExpress to be recognized and I succeeded in cutting off the TimeCapsule connection for no apparent reason. So not only am I being forced to connect hard via ethernet, but the TimeCapsule has a steady, glowing GREEN light yet is not being recognized by my computer. Why on earth would THAT be?

  • Can't Read Configuration...

I have an Airport Extreme.. (not the new GBit one), and can't get to the point of being able to read the configuration.
I've reset it by holding the reset button in for 5 seconds, and when attached to my cable modem, I can access both the Base Station and the internet, but I just can't configure the ABS whatsoever... no Base station name, no base station password.. no wireless name.. no wireless password..
It doesn't matter whether I try via Wi-Fi to configure it, or via ethernet, both fail in reading the configuration.
I AM using Airport Utility 5.3.1, but have no idea what version of the software the ABS is running..
    Any ideas ?
    Any ideas? ?

And as it turns out, the latest version of Airport Utility did NOT work with the version of the software that was on the AEBS.
I found an older copy, was able to read the configuration, update the software, and now all is well.

  • AX can't read configuration

    Hi *,
yesterday my AX was not found by iTunes anymore, checked the lamp - green.
Restart computer, disconnected AX from power and connected it again, same thing.
AX could not be found with the Airport Util.
Now i did a Hardware reset to works settings - orange blinking.
The Airport Util finds the unit, with AirportID but if you press continue or manual setting it can't connect and an error message pop's up after a while.
Any suggestions what i can do now?
    Thanks
P.S.: can't tell the Firmware actually, how can i find out?

My guess would be that this is probably a Snow Leopard issue having to do with the fact that the device was previously configured using 10.5.x and 10.6.1 is not reading the configuration correctly.
You will likely need to do a factory default reset on the AirPort Extreme and reconfigure it using AirPort Utility.
The factory default reset is done by powering down the AirPort Extreme
Holding in the reset button while you apply the power back to the device
Releasing the reset button after approximately 10 seconds

  • My iMac will detect Airport Express but can't read configuration? Any Suggestions?

I bought an Airport Express about 3 weeks ago.  I brought it home and set it up no problems. It was replacing an older Netgear router that gave me nothing but IP adress problems. When I bought the Express I didn't realize that DirecTV had wired a connection to my Netgear router, so now I have no way to connect my DirecTV recievers to the internet without purchasing some wifi adapter which I don't want to do.  I tried to run the cable from my modem to the Netgear router, than out from the router to the DirecTV box and another to my Aiport Express for wifi. That is where the problems started. I couldn't get anything to connect correctly, ended up switching the express to "Bridge Mode" and it seemed to work. Only I didn't have Internet, though the light was green. I tried restarting everything but to no avail.  So, I tried a reset on the Airport Express and now I have nothing.  My iMac will detect the Airport Express but when I click continue to configure it simply says "Trying to read Airport Configuration", which eventually leads to an error and nothing. Any idea what my problem could be?

Thanks. I really should have gotten back earlier. Sorry about that.
I have stopped trying to use the Airport Express. I am convinced that it just doesn't work as a device to use for Internet sharing with other computers or iPod Touches that are using Airport. I find that I can easily connect just by turning on Airport and Internet sharing on my iMac and creating a Network. When I do that my iPod connects immediately and I can use all the Internet applications.
But a Time Capsule is in my sights, and I'll use that when they finally roll out.
    Griff

  • I have just got an Airport time Capsule for back up how do I do it? Do I put the ethernet cable into the back of my sky hub because when I do that the amber light on my Time Capsule flashes amber. Please talk in simple terms as I am a

I have just got an Apple Airport time capsule to back up my one year old iMac......how do I do it? I have tried putting an ethernet cable into the time capsule and to my sky hub, all I get is a flashing amber light, can anyone help I am a silver surfer not used to Apple products, but love them, plus I don't understand half of the jargon....HELP please

Apple's Setup Guide for the Time Capsule is pretty simple and clear for most users, and you don't indicate at what point or step that you are getting stuck.
So, please go to page 8 in your Setup Guide to review the topic of Plugging In Your AirPort Time Capsule.
The Sky hub will likely have 4 Ethernet <--> ports on the back of the device. Pick any one that you want and connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the port that you choose.
Then, connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN (circle of dots) port as shown in the Setup Guide.
Continuing with the instructions on page 8 of the Setup Guide, power up the Time Capsule by connecting the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule to a wall AC jack.
Note that the instructions indicate that the indicator light will be solid amber during startup, and it will change to blinking amber during the setup. The light will remain blinking amber until you have configured the Time Capsule at which time the light will turn green.
Next, go to page 12 of the Setup Guide to see the information to Use your Mac or iOS device to set up your AirPort Time Capsule.
You indicated in your tag line that you were using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), and since that will exceed the minimum requirement of a Mac using OS X (10.7.5) as noted in the guide, you can use your Mac to set up the Time Capsule.
Continuing with the instructions on page 12 of the Setup Guide......
    1. Open AirPort Utility on your Mac.  It is located as follows:  Finder (the smiley face on the dock) > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    2. Select your AirPort Time Capsule and click Continue. You won't be able to do this, but read further......If you do not see the AirPort Time Capsule that you want to configure, choose it from the WiFi status menu in the menu bar, at the top of the screen.
So, clicking on the WiFi icon will yield a small window that looks like this:
The example below shows an AirPort Extreme.  You will see Time Capsule on your screen. Click on Time Capsule.
When you click on Time Capsule, that will get the setup wizard going. it will take a minute to analyze the network, then display a screen that looks similar to the illustration below, except that you will see a picture of a Time Capsule on your screen
    3. Continuing with the Setup Guide.......Follow the onscreen prompts to create a new network
Network Name...........Type in a simple name that you want to call your network. Do not use the suggested name.
Base Station Name....Type in a simple name that you want to call the Time Capsule.  Mine is TC, for example.
Password...................Type in a password that will be used for both the network and the Time Capsule.  Write that down.
Verify..........................Type in the password again to Verify
    Click Next
The setup wizard will configure everything for you. When you see the message of Setup  Complete, click Done.
The Time Capsule is now set up and it will display a green light.

  • Flashing Amber when external HD is connected to AirEx Base Station (n)

My new base station (latest model) has been operating perfectly giving good wireless connection to both the internet and my Lacie HD. I don't always power up the Lacie HD, only when I need to access files, most of the time I use the AEBS for just the internet.
Just recently however, whenever I press the blue power button on the lacie to connect wirelessly - my AEBS green light turns to flashing amber.
Can anyone explain why this has just started happening? I usually have no problems with this set-up, and have made no set-up changes.
    Thanks

I agree it is not "officially" supported by apple. But with the new firmware, they do claim that it can be used to back up data using Time Machine.
I, too, would like to know where "they" claim that. It's certainly not here: [AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule Firmware Update 7.5.2|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1106].
Since it has worked for few people, why shouldnt it work with me?
It does work for some of us, for a while. But this forum, and the Time Machine forums, have many threads complaining that it worked for days, weeks, or months, then suddenly the backups were corrupted beyond repair. That's happened to me 4 times in just over a year.
You might try the things in #D2 of [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum). Some of those steps may help (but won't prevent the corruption problem).

  • MBP cannot detect AX. AX flashing amber.

Hi I had to reset my AX after trying to set it up as a client to another wireless network. Well I did it wrong and now I have reset the AX by holding the reset button for 10 seconds andplugged everything back in. Now I cannot see my AX using airport utility and the light is flashing amber. Can anyone help? I would like to know how to get my wireless network back up and running
    Thanks!

Try cabling the Airport Express ethernet port to your Mac's ethernet port. Turn off your Mac's Airport interface (using the Airport menu). Then run the Airport Utility and see what happens.

  • Airport Express flashing amber, but shows normal in airport admin utility

I just replaced a Microsoft wireless router with an Airport Extreme base station. I've had 2 airport express stations on the old wireless network working fine with solid green lights - 1 streams airtunes and the other is a print server. I installed the extreme base station and now the 2 airport express stations appear as normal / working in the airport admin utility but have flashing amber lights. the print server actually works - I can print. The airtunes streams, but it cuts out every 5-10 seconds. Can't figure out how to get rid of the flashing amber and can't find the error since the airport admin shows them as green and working normal.
    Any ideas??

Hi ...... I am having the same problem but am having difficulties finding out why.
How did you solve it ?
    Many thanks in advance

  • My airport extreme is flashing amber it says i need a ip address .... it was working just fine yesterday until i had to reboot cable modem how do i get my extreme to work again so i can have wireless

my airport extreme is flashing amber it says i need a ip address .... it was working just fine yesterday until i had to reboot cable modem how do i get my extreme to work again so i can have wireless..... please help!!!

    Hi again Jen,
Most internet providers utilize "dhcp" -- you might want to check to see if your extreme is set to that function.
If you want to try, you need to go into airport utility and select MANUAL setup/ then click NETWORK button on top of the window. /select TCP/IP -- make sure that you see "Using DHCP" not MANUAL in the configuration window.  If you do see using  dhcp, click the renew dhcp lease button.  Then you'd have to do the power down/up cycle again.  If all this doesn't work, you can do a hard reset on your Extreme, which will bring it back to the way it came out of the box, then go through the same proccess that was used to set it up originally.

  • Can't read airport express base station configuration wirelessly

    The setup:
2TB time capsule that takes the ethernet feed from the cable modem for internet access.
Airport express 802.11g plugged into speakers for Airtunes. No ethernet connection, just a wireless network.
    The problem:
I can only read the airport express base station configuration when the mac is plugged into the time capsule by ethernet cable. This does not happen with the other mac I have on the network. It can connect to both the time capsule and the airport express without any problems. So unless I'm plugged in, iTunes and airtunes doesn't connect to the base station, and neither can Airfoil 3.5 or Airport Utility. Airport Utility does see the airport express. It just doesn't read the configuration wirelessly.
I think this had something to do with elgato eyetv not liking airfoil, but I can't say for sure.
    Any thoughts?

When I switch it on all three lights flash, but then after a while the middle one stays on and nothing happens.
You posted in the AirPort Express area, but it sounds like you have an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)--correct?
If so, let's start by performing a complete power recycling of your network components to make sure that the BT Voyager router "recognizes" the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)

  • HT1178 i can't connect the time capsule with my mac using the aiport utility. i want to use the time capsule to make backup for my mac book pro. the time capsule is giving a flashed amber light. please advice me

the time capsule is giving flashed amber light and i cant connect it to my mac book pro. i want to use it with the time machine to make backup for my mac. please advice me.

To do the setup, plug it in via ethernet.. do not try to setup over wireless.. Once it is setup you can plug the TC into the network and use wireless.
Most likely you will use the TC in bridge to an existing modem router.. but we cannot help as you have no details of the network setup.
I do recommend in the setup of the TC you use SMB type names.. that means, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.. as later Mac OS do have issues with long names, spaces and that apple shocker, the apostrophe.

  • I have an Airport Express, which flashes amber, but when I go to manual set up, it says there's an error and tells me to close configuration?

I have an Airport Express, which flashes amber, but when I go to manual set up, it says there's an error and tells me to close configuration? Once I complete that, the same thing occurs, and there's another error message?

Is this a new AirPort Express, or one that you have had for some time that has now developed problems?
What function do you want the Express to perform on your network?

  • Airport is flashing amber, but I can't fix it

    Hello all,
My Airport Express, which I use in a WDS as a music relay, is flashing amber (which means that it can't connect) and whenever I try to access it using Airport Setup Assistant or Airport Admin Utility, it says that it can't connect or just hangs. Airport Setup Assistant gave me this message:
    http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa187/adam_0/Picture1.png
There is absolutely no way that I know of to access it from my computer, and unplugging it and replugging it back in doesn't work. What is wrong???

When I went back to try to directly connect to the AX, I noticed that the light was solid amber, not flashing anymore. Supposedly that means that it's starting up, but it's been that way for a while... I have a location specifically for the ethernet connection to ABSs, but Airport Admin Utility couldn't detect any AXs. So is something wrong, or am I not able to connect directly to the AX?
