Flashing bars intermittently appearing on edges of Touchsmart 520 screen

I have an HP Touchsmart 520 PC which is about 2 years old
Product Name: 520-1061uk
Product Number: H0N10EA#ABU
Operating System: Windoes 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 2
Recently white flashing bars have started intermittently appearing at the edges of the screen. I have run diagnostics and all pass OK. Have attached a couple of pics showing the flashing bars as the HP diagnostics was loading below.
I presume this is a hardware failure but could anyone tell me whether it's most likely to be the screen, motherboard or video cable?

I have read your post on how there are flashing bars intermittently appearing on the edges of Touchsmart 520, and I would be happy to assist you in this endeavor!
Since the lines on the screen are likely to have been produced by the graphics card overheating, I recommned following this document on Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating. This should help clean out any excessive dust, allowing the fan to cool the desktop effectively.

Does anyone know what to do if there is a black bar at the bottom of your ipod touch screen? It is like the whole screen is shifted upwards and I cant access my top row apps.

For some reason, there is a 1 inch thick black bar that appeared at the bottom of my screen. It shifted my whole screen upwards and now I cant access my top row apps. The ipod still works fine, but I cant figure out how to get it back to normal. Any ideas?

Try the sstandard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to fctory defaults/new IPod.
If y still have the problem then an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Touchsmart 520 as a Secondary Device

I have a Touchsmart 520 and the screen would serve as a very nice monitor. I was wondering if it is possible connect it to a PC with an HDMI cable and use it as a monitor to save some cash. Google is not my friend, so-.. Any suggestions?

I understand you are looking to use the HP Touchsmart 520 screen as a monitor and are wondering how to go about doing it. Unfortunately, you cannot do as you are wanting to do. The HP Touchsmart 520 is a computer with a screen built in and not a screen with a monitor built in. This means asside from the HDMI Gaming port ALL the other ports actually lead in and out of the computer and not into the monitor. This makes it very difficult without ripping the computer apart to use the screen in the way you are wanting to do.

There is a bright flashing light over my tool bar and sometimes a flashing black box appears over the Yahoo news. I tried Reset Firefox and that didn't work. I then uninstalled and re-installed Firefox and I still have the seizure inducing flashing lights.
When I switch to Internet Explorer I do NOT have this problem. Please help me because I do not want to go back to IE.

In case this is caused by Firefox 33 being incompatible with your graphics card/chipset driver software, could you test for a while in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
Any difference?
You can disable hardware acceleration for all modes in the Options dialog.
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again.

Axes Settings in Flash Bar charts

Hi,
When I specify the Y-Axes settings for a Flash bar chart(application express 3.0), starting at 0(Y Min value), the bars appear with the correct height, the moment Y-Min is set to a non zero +ve value, the height of the bar gets skewed
For eg: a bar of height 0.5 starts at 0 and ends at 0.5 when the Y-min value is 0.
However, if I set the Axes to begin at 0.2, the height of the bar still remains 0.5, ending at 0.7 instead, where as the height of the bar should actually be only 0.3, starting at 0.2 and ending at 0.5
Has anyone faced a similar problem before ?
One simple work around would be to diminish all values by a certain factor(0.2 in the above example). But, still the behavior of the chart is incorrect.
Please let me know if there is any property I need to set in my style sheet to circumvent the problem.

In the time I was putting together this reply, it looks like you figured it out, but here goes:
1) In your query, divide the values by one million.
2) In your Chart Attributes, Axes Settings section, set the Postfix value to M (to indicate millions).
3) Also in the Axes Settings, adjust the Y Axis Min, Max, and Grid Spacing values. I think you must enter Min and Max values for the Grid Spacing to have an effect, but I don't know for sure.

Flashing bars at top & bottom of movie playback

This seems to have happened since iTunes 11.1.3. When playing an mp4 or quicktime movie, flashing bars appear at the top & bottom of the screen. This can be stopped by exiting and then re-entering full screen view. I can then switch between any movie file and the problem no longer appears......until next time! Has anyone else experienced this? I can't seem to find any reference to it anywhere.

When you export, use the Crop options on the Source tab to trim a few pixels off the left and right sides. Seem counter-intuitive, but what's happening is that Premiere/AME is scaling to the nearest boundary without distorting. If you crop a few pixels from the sides, you'll let the image stretch without distortion until it fits the output frame.

Flash Bar Chart Customization

I am trying to get a flash bar chart that shows multiple bars on a single row. The X Axis is time, so basically I want to show that something happens from 10am until 12am, and then something else happens from 3pm until 5pm. But I want them both on the same row. They cannot be stacked, because there will always be gaps.
I looked in the Anychart documentation, and it appears that the attribute point_padding should address this problem, merely by giving it a value of -1 (because it is a percentage). But that has no impact. I tried adding it to the chart node, the block node, the set node, still nothing.
I am trying to do this with a 2D Horizontal Range chart.
My questions: Does Apex's chart plug-in not include some standard functionality from Anychart? Or is this perhaps an older version and is that attribute not supported? And is there anyplace where I can see what is included in the version Oracle distributes? Or failing that, does anyone have a better suggestion for how to do this?

If you are using Apex version 3, it uses Anychart version 3.
If you want to use the custom XML option on your chart you need to know the XML spec. If you look on the Anychart website, their documentation is for Anychart version 4 and will not work! Check out the version 3 documentation at;

Mackbook Pro display has flashing bar

The 15-inch display on my MacBook Pro 5,1 has a vertical bar near the center of the screen, with fabric-like patterns, and it is flashing rapidly.Shutting down and restarting will eliminate the disturbance for a short time.
I recently installed a new 750 GB internal drive from OWC Macsales, but it appears to be working fine. I have never seen this symptom before.
I am able to run applications, but the flashing bar is extremey distracting.
The computer is out of warranty.
I will be grateful for any advice, recommendations, or cures.

Mende1, thanks for the tip. I scheduled an Apple Store genius appointment for today, then cancelled because the problem disappeared. It's a 120-mile round trip; so I wouldn't want to waste it if there's no evidence of the problem or what may have caused it.
If the graphics card needs to be replaced, I'd like some idea of the cost. I Googled the card specification wirthout finding a match from any Internet seller. Other cards ranged in prices from $400 - $2,000. The only reference on Apple's website is a $200 upgrade option on new MacBook Pros.
Here's the card currently installed:
2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB GDDR5 memory

HH4 flashing bar issue

Just recieved an upgrade from HH2 to HH4. No change in connection as I live outside Infinity catchment area. So should be as easy as swapping HH2 for HH4, no waiting for account activation as nothing but the HH has changed.
Sadly not.
I swapped out to the HH4 and just get a flashing orange bar, if I disconnect the phone line then I get a flashing B as per normal. Reconnect the line and all i get is the flashing bar. I know that this error shows that 'There is a problem somewhere', nice and vague
I've swapped back to HH2 and everything works fine, im using the HH2 to write this. I've tried power cycling, reset to factory, changing filters, attatching to Master. Nothing appears to work.
Any ideas on what this might be?

Before I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 and updated Firefox to the latest version, when I opened a PDF document online, the PDF navigation/menu bar would automatically appear at the top of the screen. Now it only appears at the bottom in a blue bar when I move my mouse around.

cor-el, thanks for the tip. While I certainly scoured Adobe's preference settings to look for something relating to that exact thing, I never went to their help site until I got your post. I found out that the floating toolbar appears because the PDF opens in'' Read Mode'', which you can turn off for all future documents by doing this:
* Quit your internet browser
* Launch Acrobat (or Reader)
* Choose Edit>Preferences
* Click on the Internet category on the left
* Deselect “Display in Read Mode by default”
* Click the OK button.
* Relaunch Acrobat
Something important to note, if you have both Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader, you need to do the above in both programs (same steps).

A flashing question mark appears when I re/start my MacBook Air 2013. Then, I pressed POWER & OPTOIN buttons and internet options appeared for internet recovery. After internet recovery, the OS X utilities appears with four options (Restore from Time machine, Reinstall OS X, Get help online and Disk utility). But none of them seemed helpful. On the last option Disk utility, the icon created only with 33KB and other disk 1 Mac Os X Base system. On First Aid, the icon Repair disk is disabled. So I could not click on repair disk. Could you please suggest me how to solve this problem asap? Thank you so much for your help in advance!

You can try the following:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
        the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.
