Flashing BIOS went horribly wrong... (or is there a way to resurect it?)

I tried flashing to an older BIOS but somewhere along the way got caught out by a few surprises.
Mainly from what I've read here while trying to solve my problem, is that a low battery (CMOS) can cause a few problems when flashing.  I kept getting a CMOS Checksum error.
The problem is that no matter how I clear or reset this MB, it will not boot to floppy to reflash the BIOS.  (I did replace the CMOS battery)
The question I have is;  Is there something else I can try to get this MB to boot, and if not is it worth trying to replace the BIOS chip or should I just chalk it up to experience and pickup a new MB?  ( I live in the middle of nowhere Canada so access to specialized parts is iffy unless mail ordered.  I can pickup a replacement MB for CAD$80)
Opinons welcome on this one.
Thanks,
Zen.

post your mobo and system details, see if your mobo has a socket BIOS or is soldered, if is socketed then you can change the bios, also if you have a friend or somebody with the same mobo you can reflash your bios making a hot swap with the working mobo. good luck
Oops,
It is a Neo Platinum  (7030) MB in an Antec Sonata Case, 2*512 OCZ memory, Seagate 120Gb SATA HD,  ATI 9800Pro.
The BIOS is socketed, but I don't know anyone who might have another MB like mine.  (Stupid question:  If BIOS doesn't boot in my machine, how do you reflash it in another PC?  Wouldn't it be just as dead if moved to another MB?)
Thanks,
Zen.

Absolutely sure.. There is no connection at all.. reset is only the router side of the TC.
For the hard disk to be erased you need to access the airport utility disk page.. request erase and confirm the operation.
    2) I can access to time capsule by ethernet but I am not able to input the corret setting by myself
    Thank you again
I am uncertain why if you have access you cannot change settings.. but that is why you reset things so any of those problems should be fixed.
Here is the Apple info on reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
And here is the quote from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Factory default reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.

Chances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
    Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian.  Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

  • Yes; I see that I can add words to the dictionary so that firefox no longer flags them as wrong, but is there any way that Firefox will actually suggest the added words, so that if I do misspell them, they are pressented as suggestions?

Spell check not only underlines words that are not in its dictionary, but suggests words when the flagged words are right clicked. However, if words have been added to the dictionary by a user, it does not appear that spell check incorporates the new words into to the suggestions for proper spelling. As a result, if I misspell a word that I have added to the dictionary, I have to manually correct it, because the correct spelling that was added to the dictionary is not offered in the drop down list when the word is right clicked.

''is there any way that Firefox will actually suggest correct spelling''
Right click on the indicated word, and choose, the spelling, add to dictionary,
or close the right-click context menu to allow without changing anything.
You probably have other dictionary lists on your computer of words that you've already verified and added, open that list or a copy of it in Firefox and add the ones that show up as invalid using your better judgement that you have now than in the past.

  • And then something went horribly wrong.

I left my iMac on before going to work yesterday and there was a power outage in my building. When I returned home for the day, after finding out about the power outage, I went to turn my iMac on. Everything seemed fine, I had sound and video. While it was in the loading screen, it restarted on its own. It did an endless cycle of loading and then restarting. I never got past the loading screen. I was about to see if I could just reformat the HDD by reinstalling the OS, but I already had a disk in the drive. Any ideas of why it would get stuck in that cycle of loading and restarting? I would take it to a mac genius, but I am currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan and there are no apple stores around.

I think you answer your own question about this by telling us that there is a disk stuck in the drive. Next time you start it up, hold down the mouse key: that should eject the disk. If you have a bluetooth mouse, it might be an idea to borrow a USB mouse from a friend: anything will do.
It may be premature to think about reformatting.
When the disk comes out, it is time for repairs. Start gently with a simple, Safe Boot: hold down the Shift Key at startup. That may make things a little more stable. If you have it, start up with the Install disk in the drive (slide the disk in then press the start button). As it starts, hold down the C key. Select the language, but do not install, look at the menubar and select Utilities. With Disk Utility, you can try First Aid and Repair the disk.

  • I just installed IO 5.01., went through the configuration process, resynced with iTunes but now I can't get the ipad out of the configuration mode. O' on PC with XP home, SP3 installed. What am I doing wrong? Is there any way I can revert back to IO 4?

The first time I synced with the ipad I did go through "restore" from iTunes. The other options on the screen were "restore from iCloud" and "new ipad".
How do I do a restore now? With the ipad attached? Everytime I connect and disconnect the ipad to the cable, even with reboot, it takes me back to the same grey iPad configuration screen. Do I need to do a hard reset?

  • An iAS 4.1 Web Connector looked up the wrong IP, is there a way to change it ?

I have one working iWS 4.1 instance running on Solaris 8.
I have decided to install anthoer web server instance + web connector to iAS 6.0 for SSL purposes.
However, after I set up the second instance and when I ran the page, an error 500 is returned and the web log is as follows:
[21/Jan/2002:16:11:51] config ( 586): for host 192.168.128.2 trying to GET /NASApp/test/test.jsp, handle-processed reports: no way to service request for /NASApp/test/test.jsp
192.168.128.2 is our company's internal router.
Any suggestion to make it working ? Or any ideas what went wrong in there ?
I have checked the configured IP in the kregedit of the second instance, (/CCS0/HTTPAPI/GXIP) which is set to 192.168.128.9 (our iAS server).
    Any solutions ?
    Thanks and regards,
    Kasnol

Hi, I think I got confused with the error message, it seemed to me that 192.168.128.2 is the client IP access the Web server, not the IP which Web Connector is trying to access App server.
Any idea how to solve the error message ?

  • I want to temporarily disable Adobe Flash plug-in--(as Chrome allows)--is there a way to do this for FF?

I don't want to permanently uninstall adobe flash--I merely want to disable it at my discretion. Is there a method to do this? Google Chrome allows you to disable and re-enable add-ons/extensions/plug-ins quite easily without uninstalling them and then re-enable them just as easily. If this option isn't available in FF, I'd like to request it. Thanks.

Thanks--I tried that first when I first began having problems--I could not locate the Flash Plug-in. Apparently I was looking under the wrong icon (the add-ons--puzzle piece icon) instead of the plug-ins (lego piece icon). After receiving your rather rapid response to my inquiry, I tried again and was able to locate the plug-in list. Thanks

  • Is there a way to transfer photos from an iPhone 4S to a flash drive (via MacBook, of course)?  There are way more photos in iPhoto than just what is on my phone, and I really just want to have a flash drive of "iPhone 4S photos."

I know how to move things from iPhoto to a flash drive, but I'm hoping there is a simpler way to get the photos from my phone to a flash drive, because there are so many photos in iPhotos that I don't need on the flash drive.
    Thanks

There isnt a simple way.  You could create a whole new libaray, move all your pictures to that, then move the libaray to a flash drive.
From what you have said, can you not just create an album/event and move all your iPhone photos into that.  That would seperate it from the rest of your content, then as part of that process delete all the photos imported off of your iPhone..... just an idea

  • Something has gone horribly wrong...

After a days long battle to get my cd's and audiobooks loaded on to my iPod video, all seemed well. On the four hour drive to my girlfriend's parents' house we listened to most of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." When we got to her parents' house I plugged the iPod into their Mac (my computer is a PC) to recharge it and to use iTunes to try and get all our audiobooks to be in listed under "audiobooks" instead of "songs."
But then something went horribly wrong. When I looked at the contents of my iPod, almost all the tracks had little exclamation points next to them indicating that the file's location was unknown. In fact, some of the tracks that we'd just been listening to moments before were now missing!
This is very bad because we're in the process of leaving the country for several years, my computer is now in storage and the reason we bought the iPod was so that we could have stories for our long drive and music once we got there.
Can I fix this problem without reloading everything?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Sorry for your loss. This is generally how the iPod works. It is part of the way that Apple is trying to make the recording history by not (easily) allowing people to copy their playlists from machine to machine.
If you have iTunes set to automatically manage your playlists for that iPod it will replace the contents of the iPod when you hook it up to another computer. It should have given you a message that says something like "This iPod is managed by another computer. If you proceed you will loose all songs on this iPod."
At least I think that is probably what happened. You aren't completely clear, but is seems that a few songs were left? If that is the case I don't know how it happened. Perhaps you are using different versions of iTunes and that had something to do with it.
It may be possible to get the music back, but I don't know how to do it. Reloading everything is probably your best bet. Depending upon how much stuff you have and the capacity of your iPod you might want to carry a "backup" of all the files as data. Then if you lost them in the playlists part, you could hook to a friends computer, copy all the data off that partition and reload it. Good luck with that.
If you get the music restored you might want to look into getting a charger of some sort. You won't always be able to count on hooking up to somebody else's computer.

  • Is there a way to reload BIOS to laptop?

I have a HP Pavilion dv9700, model number dv9910us, running Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit. This morning I received an e-mail from a company I usually do business with. I clicked to look for a product. The screen showed tiny pin-stripe lines and the computer froze. I held the power button down until the computer turned off. When I went to reboot the computer, the bios would start and run for about 3 seconds. It appeared to poll the Hard drive and the CD/DVD drive then turned off, waited about two seconds and rebooted. It would do this endlessly even if the lid was closed. While the LED lights were on the power button could be held down for five seconds and the computer will shut off.  I had it tested. The hard drive is fine, as is 4GB RAM, DVD-ROM, wireless card etc. The technician concluded the bios were corrupted. He tried to use a flash drive to load new bios but since bios are corrupted, boot loader with new bios cannot be executed.
Is there a way to reload the bios? Is a new mother board required? Are there any techniques to reload the bios from a shadow ROM on the mother board? What to do?

  • I bought the wrong version (clean/explict) is there a way to transfer?

When I bought a song in the app store I bought the wrong one is there a way I could exchange it for the correct one?

All purchases are considered final but you can try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support and see if they will refund or credit you so that you buy the other version : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Is there a way to rebuild the ITunes Library XML file from my IPod?

After several promptings, I finally decided to install ITunes 7.4.3.1. Like a fool, I did not backup my entire library prior to doing this upgrade. Nothing is going to go wrong now mate, is it? Everything seemed to proceed just fine with the upgrade. I noticed that ITunes updated the XML Library in the process. Where the problems occured was after the upgrade, I was in the middle of listening to the latest "NPR Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" Podcast (I have some 3,000 downloaded podcasts in over 85GB worth of space) when ITunes crashed. When I brought ITunes back up, it had seemed to have reverted to an earlier backup ITunes Library XML file that I had made months ago.
I still have all of the .mp3, .m4a, .mp4 and .m4v files stored in my ITunes Music folder. Somehow when I brought ITunes back up, it had lost all of the music I had dowloaded from the ITunes store even though the files were still out on disk. It thought there were only 395 podcasts despite the 3,000 plus files out there.
Clearly, something went horribly wrong and I don't want to spend weeks downloading these files again when the only thing that really needs to be done is the ITunes Library XML data file needs to be rebuilt. It dawns on me that my IPod has an XML data file that save any updates I have not yet synced with it that it is quite current. Is there some way that I can sync my IPod with ITunes and copy the IPod XML data file into ITunes Library XML data file? I know that there must be some way to access the IPod since I can plug it into my Kenwood car stereo and read through the IPod's contents.
Is there anyone out there that has an idea that might be able to help me recover my ITunes library?
    Thanks for any assistance,
    --randyt00

The XML file is not used by iTunes. It is created for the use of other programs. Your library is in the itl file. SInce you still have the file you could simply add them to your library using the add folder option instead of downloading again.
    What are library files
