Flashing / Blinking screen on Qosmio F50

Hello,
I've a persistent problem with my F50-12L screen, suddenly the screen flashing/blinking/display brightness goes up and down suddenly (This is not dim, it happens when I'm working as well)
When I start up my laptop, everything is smooth and working fine, suddenly it start to blink/Display brightness goes up and down and blinking for seconds then it disappear and back to normal again! I'm using the latest drivers and latest 2.2 bios and OS is win7 ultimate 32bit.
I took it twice to the authorized dealer/support here in Egypt which called Toshiba El-Araby : http://toshiba.elarabygroup.com , every time they say nothing wrong with it !! I check it before leaving and everything is fine and I keep telling them it's happening all the time, it just doesn't happen in front of them(is it my fault? lol), and back to home, and test it, it may run for hours without blinking etc, but suddenly, it starts to do so again for a while and disappear, and so on...
I thought it's an issue with the adapter, It's happening also when I'm working on battery, and I tried to remove the battery and work on the adapter directly(to check if there is nothing wrong with the battery) and it happened again.
Also, I tried to change my power mode, I tried all of them: High perf, balanced & power save modes, It''s happening whatever mode I use.
* Sometimes when it happens, there is a sound hmm i dont know the source of the sound but it seems to be the fan!(not sure, weird low sound! it's like zzzzz) I tried to adjust the screen and the flashing/blinking disappears, but it doesnt help all times, is there any issue with the screen itself?
I got tired of this, and of this support agent here in Egypt as I can't drive for 2 hrs everyday for nothing usefull, and Its hard for me to leave the laptop for days every week when it happened.
Anybody faced such issues with screen being flashing/blinking like mine? Do you have ideas or suggestions regarding this? Does Toshiba provide direct email support? I coudn't find their technical support email, If so, I would appreciate providing me with it and any help is much appreciated.
Sincerely,

Macius ,
Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay. I was unable to login to this forum and it kept saying no user name, however I've managed to login now after many tries of resetting password.
I've tried to connect it to an external monitor, not doing the same with external monitors(it doesn't blink/flash when I connect it to an external monitor) Also when it flash/blink I adjust it by my hand and it disappear and return again and so on and it's annoying.
Do you or anyone has an explanation to this please? Plus, When it flash/blink, there is a weird low sound comes along with it zzzzz
I'm planning to take it to the Toshiba agent here in Egypt on Next Sunday, But i will appreciate any inputs that can spot or clarify this issue as it may help me to explain it better to the tech support at Toshiba as they are running in a closed circle for over a year.

  • Brief water contact; black apple logo blinking/flashing white screen

Ok, this idiot didn't take his phone from his pocket & it briefly was water submerged. Maybe 20 seconds; feeling stupid about it.
Phone has been in a bag of (uncooked) rice for a solid 48hrs. I thought that was long enough to plug phone into lightening cable charger into USB port for  iTunes...saw a white screen black apple logo that is blinking/flashing. Immediately unplugged it & put back in bag of (uncooked) rice. Did not have it plugged in longer than a few seconds.
Suggestions other than make an appt. with the Genius bar?
Is flashing/blinking a significant sign of permanent damage?

No where near long enough. Should be 5-7 days normally.

Genius Bar appointment is the best alternative. More than likely the device is trash. You should be able to purchase an Out Of Warranty replacement.

  • Qosmio F50-10Z Bios update crashed - how do I reset cmos?

I have a Qosmio F50-10Z and as prompted by toshiba I downloaded the Bios update and began to install.
My screensaver came on and the whole thing crashed.
Would not turn off (even after holding down power button for 15 secs).
Took battery out and then put it back in. Computer powers on but screen is blank and won't boot up.
Tried to take it apart to flash the bios by taking out rtc/cmos battery (whatever it's called) but can't find the battery and got to the point where I wasn't willing to take it apart any further (has no-one else ever taken one apart?
Couldn't find information or diagram or photo of where the battery was on net...manual for laptop really unhelpful)
Have found comments about crisis disks but I don't know what this means.
So, how to I reset bios?
Please help - you are my only hope.

Thanks for your comments. Do you know where I can download a Bios flasher or Bios recovery crisis disk from? There seem to be a lot floating around forums but I cannot find anything specifically for my laptop. Am I missing something on the Toshiba website? I have seen people mention downloading a bios flash utility from toshiba (specifically for the F45) but can't figure out where they are getting this from...
In response to your recommendation - I know that is what I am encouraged to do but I'm in the UK - my nearest Toshiba recommended technicians are PC world conglomerate - the sort of guys who pat me on the head when I ask for specific RAM (rather than 'some memory, please'), look blankly at you when you say the word Bios, and bang their mouse when the computer freezes! Besides, they want 50 up front whether or not they manage to fix it, and given how many of my friends computers they have failed to fix that my boyfriend then fixed in ten minutes, I might as well burn my money as send it to them.

  • Qosmio F50 - Up arrow signal when HDMI cable connected

    Hello,

This only happens when its connected using HDMI. As soon as i unplug the cable, it stops doing it.

  • Photoshop cs5 blinking screen, freezing, shutting down

    Hi,
I'm a photographer and I recently purchased an 8 core Mac Pro 16 Ram with a standard GT 120 video card (Nvidia Gee Force).  When I purchased the computer, I also purchased photoshop cs5.  I am running into issues when editing my images in cs5.  For example, when I drag and drop images into a droplet, photoshop starts going crazy.  My screen starts this flashing, blinking thing (from top to bottom of my screen).  The only way I can get it to stop is by pressing the button on my system to shut it down.  The mouse will move on the screen, but it won't let me click on anything so I'm not able to force quit. I have an apple cinema 30" display, and mac has tested several things.  They seem to think it's a issue with cs5, or maybe it's a possibly of a video card issue or adobe's compatibility with the Mac 10.6.4 version. They think it's an adobe issue b/c I only have issues when I'm using photoshop. My system is completely up to date; all software is updated.  PLEASE help with the issue.  I'm getting further and further behind on my work!!
    Thanks so much,
    Emily

As you can read in all the other topics on the same issue: this is a well known bug in the MacOS 10.6.4 drivers for NVidia cards.
The same bug affects other applications that use OpenGL.
You can find instructions on downgrading the video card drivers in the previous topics, or you can just downgrade the entire OS to 10.6.3.
Hopefully, Apple will get an updated driver out soon.

  • Re: Qosmio F50-12J - FN key not working with new Value Added Package

    Hi,
I have Toshiba Qosmio F50-12J and have trouble with Value Added Package v 1.2.28.
I can't get the flash cards to work. When I press FN key nothing happens. BTW, I installed VAP on freshly installed Windows 7 64 bit. With the previuos version of VAP that I tried on Windows 7, KeNotify.exe was crashing. Now there is no apparent crash, but nothing happens.
Also, there is a problem with the Button Support utility (touch sensitive controls). Whenever I reboot my system, all the white illumiation LEDs on my laptop are lit although I turned them off.
So, could someone confirm that they have a working Value Added Package v 1.2.28 on Windows 7 64bit ?

    Hi buddy,
Your posting is a little bit confusing and in my opinion you make something wrong. My Qosmio F50 runs pretty good on Windows 7 and I dont have any problems with the FN keys, illumination buttons or other function.
First of all make sure that all drivers are installed!!! I mean chipset, graphic, sound, etc. Check the device manager and if you can find unknown devices or yellow exclamation marks download the missing drivers on the Toshiba page.
The Button Support Utility has nothing to do with Flash Cards support utility. So before you make something wrong, please uninstall Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Card Supports Utility. Restart the notebook after uninstallation and clean the registry using CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/). If you have clean the registry, restart the notebook again.
Now you should install newest Toshiba Value Added Package. Restart again.
Install Flash Cards Support Utility for Vista. Restart again.
Now you should check if it works or not.
Sorry but thats all what I can say. I dont have any problems on my Qosmio F50 and Windows 7.

  • Cannot Install Graphical Video Library 2.2 Qosmio F50

Hi, I'm looking for some help installed the Toshiba Graphical Video Library 2.2 update for Windows 7.
I done a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate on my Toshiba Qosmio F50-10Z, everything installed fine including the Flash Cards. But I have a problem installing the Graphical Video Library 2.2 update. I downloaded the Windows 7 GVL version from the support page and found that the update includes 2 folders 1.2 (?) and 2.2.
I've ran the 1.2 update first and installed ok, but when I try to install the 2.2 update it displays a dialog telling me that the installation cannot continue because the old graphical video library database was found.
Does anyone have any idea in how to get this update installed?
    Thanks

yeah, I've tried that as well, I've completely removed the older Graphical Video Library from the system, rebooted and then installed the latest GVL, however everytime I run the GVL it complains that there is a DB connection error and then exits the application. I've noticed that the older versions of the GVL had SQL Server 2005 installed, but the latest 2.2/2.1 doesn't do this, it just seems to install the application (with no TVRconversion utility either) which shows the error when run. Would really appreciate any insight into this issue.
    Thanks again
my login seems to have stopped working so had to create a new one, hence the different name

  • Some help for a Qosmio F50 and Win 8 is needed

    Hello,
I have an old Qosmio F50 and since it still has enough power to handle Windows 8 I decided to give it a try. What I did is a clean install of WIN 8 pro x64 and I used a mix of drivers from various Toshiba models and third parties. The results weren't bad since everything is working except for a little weird thing.
    Specifically I used:
    - Chipset drivers V,9.4.0.1022 straight from Intel.
    - Toshiba's high definition processor driver v,1.0.2.71
    - Enecir drivers v. 2.7.4.1
    - Realtek High definition audio drivers R271
    - Bluetooth stack v 8.00.12(T)
    - Nvidia VGA drivers 320.49
    - ALPS V8.x0.303.206 drivers for the touchpad
    - Camera assistant software v 1.7.260.0526L (a bit unstable and the settings reset every now and then, but still functional. The newer camera application couldn't handle the old Chicony)
    - Everything else that was provided by Windows Update.
    And finally I used:
Toshiba function key 1.00.6626.06, Flash cards 1.51.8.2C (the b version).and SpecApp.exe (aka button support) v.1.3.3.64
The only problem I have is with the media touch-buttons. While they work as they should and I can remap them with the SpecApp.exe just fine, they do a crazy thing:
Sometimes together with the correct function the button will also open windows calculator which is pretty annoying. I tried many things including searching in the registry, but I couldn't find out how to solve this, so if anyone could help it would be great.
Other than this malfunction, everything else works just perfect including all the FN keys.
Thank you for reading and if you have any idea I'm all ears.

I guess you will not get an original Windows 8 driver to get the multimedia working in connection with the Windows 8 system because the Windows 8 isnt officially supported on Qosmio F50.
But as you got it working using the packages released for other Toshiba notebooks, I guess that the crazy button actions are related to the SpecApp.exe since this small app has been used in order to remap the buttons.
So probably you should remove this from the system and should use just an Toshiba Value Added Package released for other Toshiba series.
    This is my personal opinion...

  • White blinking screen X2-01

My nokia X2-01 suddenly flashed a white screen and started to blink. The phone would continue blinking until the battery is dead. I tried bringing it to a local repair shop (not nokia care) and they said that the phone needs to be formatted. After I got it, the phone was working again. After one week, the white blinking screen continued. We brought it to the same local repair shop. They said that the phone's software needed to be updated and said it costs 500 pesos. I hesitated because I know that it is free to update the phone. What I don't know is how they managed to update the phone's software if it is not turning on properly and the computer can't detect it.
I also tried removing the battery, memory card and sim card. Now the phone would not turn on at all. Please help.
Is this the real problem of my phone? How can I fix it. Thank you for answering.

    Hi pleaseeeheeelp,
    Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
We would strongly advise you to take your phone to an authorised Nokia Care point and let them have a look. This is because if you get your phone flashed at a random repair shop, they may install wrong or faulty firmware on it, causing further damage to the phone and voiding any existing warranty. Flashing and blinking screen may indicate that there is a hardware issue, one more reason to visit your local Nokia Care point.
Let us know how you get on,
    Puigchild

  • Qosmio F50 very dim display issue

    Hi everyone
Recently my Qosmio F50-10z has started suffering a very weird problem. Often the screen goes absolutely dim. I can see a very very faint image if I concentrate very hard. External monitors when connected stay well lit and bright. The most weird bit is that when this happens I have to literally slam the lid shut and open the lid immediately to make the screen light up again.
I know it is either the inverter or the screen cable. My question is how do I find out whether it is the VGA cable or the inverter and where do I buy the part from!
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    > My question is how do I find out whether it is the VGA cable or the inverter and where do I buy the part from!
In my opinion its an FL inverter issue since the picture on the external monitor is ok.
The FL inverter controls the display backlight and the issue sounds like FL inverter malfunction.
You can purchase and order all compatible parts from an local ASP.
The authorized service partner would be helpful and could also replace the part.
I would recommend this because notebook disassembling is very tricky.
