Flashing DSL light and no internet since yesterday

I've been remarkably pleased with my BT broadband since it was installed a while back, a few hiccups with slow speeds very occasionally but on the whole very happy. Someone did warn me that I'd be very happy until I had a problem and then I would go crazy again, but am trying to avoid that!
Basically, when I left my house for work yesterday my broadband was working fine, when I got in yesterday evening I had a flashing DSL light which I've had ever since, and am trying to make do with the meagre allowance I have left on my phone and using 3G hotspot for now for urgent internet related stuff,
I've tried the BT fault finder, which says there is no network fault, and tried the broadband troubleshooter, which basically said I wasn't using a BT Home Hub so would I like to pay through the nose for a BT expert...  I'm thinking there must be some communication down the line for it to be able to tell I'm not using a Home Hub?
I'm using a netgear wireless router.  I've rebooted it, still get flashing light.  Have switched off and left for 10 minutes in case of some kind of overheat - still get flashing light.  Have checked wires and cables all firmly connected.
What are my next steps, I'm trying to avoid helpline hell until I've exhausted any other reasonable options.
Is a router likely to suddenly go wrong, or is it more likely a BT fault?
Thanks.

have you tried connecting to test socket with a new filter to see it that helps?
as phone works try quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone

  • Constant disconnects with flashing DSL light

Hi, my Infinity 2 connection has been unusable since last Friday 8th Feb.  I get at the most a few minutes of up time then the connection drops with a flashing DSL light on the Openreach Modem.
I have tried power cycling the hub and modem, changed the cable to the socket and also relocated the modem.
I logged the call with BT on the 9th and on the 11th they marked the job as fixed, but it isnt.
This situation is very frustrating as I rely on my connection heavily for home and vpn to work but there seems to be no progress in a resolve.

I phoned  the helpline in the end and the guy the other end actually did a line test and found an issue.  Apparently an engineer is booked but cannot come out until 21st Feb!!!  That will be nearly 2 weeks downtime.  I have not had the appointment in confirmed in black or white which is not reassuring either.
Really annoyed as when I had adsl with 02 any issue (which was very rare) got resolved either next day or within the promised 3 days.
I also didn't have to chase them to resolve it and they Defo didn't mark a job as fixed until it actually was.
Not very impressed by BT at all.  I have phone, Bt Vision and Infinity 2 with them so I pay them enough every month.

  • My ipod shuffle 2nd gen suddenly stops playing music after 15-20 mins.First it flashes green light and then flashes red light rapidly. Any solution to this ?

My ipod shuffle 2nd gen suddenly stops playing music after 15-20 mins.First it flashes green light and then flashes red light rapidly. Any solution to this ?

A 2nd gen shuffle is about six year old at this point.  The likely cause is a battery that is worn out, with greatly reduced capacity or inability to hold a charge.  The initial green light shows a good charge.  The red light means the battery is drained.
Since the shuffle still appears in iTunes, you can try doing a Restore in case the cause is related to corrupted software on the shuffle.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.
Also, when the light becomes red and the shuffle stops playing, try turning OFF the shuffle for at least ten seconds.  Then, turn it back ON.  This resets the shuffle.  Does it play again?  If it does, let it play until it no longer plays again.  Repeat turning it OFF and ON until it no longer plays.  Then, connect it to power and charge it to full.  See if that makes any difference.
If that does not help, the solution is to replace the battery.  If you have a repair shop do it, the cost is probably uneconomical, compared to the cost of a brand new 4th gen shuffle ($50) that has more features, and a new set of headphones, plus a one-year warranty.
If you are good at such things, this web site has repair guides

My Airport, even after a Factory default reset, just has a rapidly flashing white light and will not boot up.  What should I do?

Thanks for you response!  I have had it for about 5-6 years ... don't know if that is "vintage" or not.  I just got back from our local Geneis Bar and they declared it "DOA."  So, I've got a new one and getting ready to install.  Thanks, again!

  • Flashing amber light and set up problems

    Hey All,
I am installed my AiportXpress through an ethernet hub because there is another older PC that is running straight off an ethernet cable right into the comp from a modem. So basically I have a computer line, modem line, and the cable going to the airport express.
When I plugged in the airport though all I got was flashing yellow and have ever since.
I also run the airport set up guide and set everything up leading to the fact I can get a full signal from my the airport but I cannot connect to the internet...
    Any help
    Erik

Don't know if this helps, but...
I set up my AEX as a bridge and disabled DHCP so that I could use existing router at head end of the network (Linksys WRT54G). Ethernet cable was plugged into an Enet port (not WAN port) on back of AEX. I also disabled wireless security. On startup, the unit constantly slow flashes amber, but internet connection through wireless works fine.
When I enabled WPA2 personal and assigned a password the green light came on steady on the AEX. Apparently turning off wireless security creates an amber alarm condition.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am upgrading wi-fi router from Airport Express to Airport Extreme. I followed set up instructions yet I am still getting the flashing amber light and cannot setup (using manual setup or the continue button).  What should I do??

    Hello,
I am upgrading my wireless router from an Airport Express to an Airport Extreme.  After disconnecting the Express and plugging the Extreme via ethernet cable to the modem, I am receiving a flashing amber light after connecting the power source.  I also reset the modem while the Extreme was still powered and plugged into the modem, but no luck.  I also tried resetting the modem and the Extreme and still no resolution.  Please advise.  Thank you!

This error usually occurs when the Windows Firewall and/or anti-virus software blocks the connection attempt from the PC to the AirPort Extreme.
Microsoft Security Essentials can do the same thing.
Things would be much easier if you had a Mac or iPhone or iPad to set up the AirPort Extreme. Otherwise try turning off the Windows Firewall and Anti-Virus programs, etc on the PC.
Restart the PC, then see if the PC can contact the AiPort Extreme. It will likely help to connect an Ethernet cable from the PC to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme. You can disconnect the Ethernet cable once the AirPort Extreme has been configured.
Re-enable the Windows Firewall, Anti-Virus, etc and restart the PC.

  • Self Assigned IP Addresses amber lights and no internet HELP!

Ok bear with me as I try to explain my prediciment!
I have an imac G5 with a Airport Extreme card properly connected and currently at full signal! The problem I'm having is that when i click safari (or IE) it doesn't load up any pages and a littke box pops up saying that it cannot find the server! so I go to network settings in system preferences and check the network status. I have an amber light and it says "airport connected to (my server) IP address self assigned your mac may not be able to connect to the internet" the problem is it is not self assigned it is done through DHCP.
I have had internet working perfectly at another house and it has worke don the odd occasion for a couple of days here so I don't think its a fault card (as i say it picks up a signal fine). I have tried putting in all info in manually but this has not helped (although on 1 occasion it did). I have baffeled the university technician with this problem. Im currently using ethernet to connect but this is no good as I need the computer in my bedroom and not the dining room (student accomodation) if you have any suggestions or have experienced this problem yourselves i would be delighted to hear of any answers and suggestions!

    Hi,
Duane is right in that if ACL's (access control lists) are set on the wireless access point, (as they are in my school) you will need your mac address of your airport card to add to the router.
Here's what I would do.... Open up Network Prefs in the System Prefs app. Create a "New" location and name it whatever you want ("Wireless at Home"). In the "Show" drop down menu, select airport. You should see 5 tabs in the airport window. Airport, TCP/IP, PPoE, Appletalk and Proxies. Click the airport tab and select automatically where it asks you what default network you want to join. You'll also find your mac address for your airport card in that pane. Next, click on TCP/IP and select DHCP from the IPv4: drop down menu, make sure no information is showing in this window. In other words, no numbers in DHCP or DNS servers, etc. If it's blank and ready to go, hit apply. The router should then hand off an IP address. Close system prefs and look in the menu on the upper right hand corner of your screen (by the date and time). See the airport fan? Does it have black bars through it? Or are they grey? Or, does it just look like a blank semicircle (airport is not turned on). If you don't see this menu, go back to network prefs and open the new location you've just made and go back to the airport tab. There is a check box in there that says, show airport status in menu bar. Turn that on. Now, go back to the menu and if the bars are grey, click on the fan and see if your network is listed there. Click on that to join. You have made a new location with fresh DHCP settings and told your airport card to connect automatically to whatever network is available.

  • Power Adapter flashes orange light and won't power on.

I woke up this morning to find that my power adapter's light is off and it is still plugged into the surge protector.
    1. When I push the button on the bottom, I get all 4 lights saying that it is charged.
    2. When I plug the laptop with another adapter, I get a constant flashing orange light from the power adapter. Mine will flash orange several times and then go black. It's like it's trying to communicate something to me but I don't understand its language!!
    3. I have tried resetting the computer, that didn't work.
    4. I have tried powering up without the battery in the machine, that didn't work.
Any ideas out there?? I'm thinking that I need a new logic board but I also haven't backed up my info. Any assistance on either of these issues?

I found out that someone had spilt chicken soup on my laptop and it pretty much destroyed the logic board, optical drive, processor and other technical stuff.
    *heavy sigh*

  • Flashing orange light and wrong size info

I have seen a lot of post about the flashing orange light so have an idea what I could do - but if someone has a definitive up to date answer I would appreciate it.
The problem started when I set up itunes then the ipod on my laptop after setting it all up originally on my desktop.
The other thing I have noticed is that in the settings section it says my ipod has a capacity of 92Gb and that I am using 16Gb which is obviously a bit odd on a 1Gb bit of kit.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    Thanks for that.
I have done a number of restores and still have the same issue.
On the restore front - I have read something about having 4 restore options, but I have not had any option choices when I have tried it.
    Cheers

  • Very slow processing and no internet since I connected to my pc

I connected to my pc using usb cable to view some pics and ever since then the phone processes very slowly and no internet connection.  I tried shutting it down for a while to see if that would help but no luck.  Can someone guide me?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Flash Player Freezing and Crashing Internet explorer and Google Chrome

    Hello,
I have a dell xps 16 running on i7, windows 7 home premium 64 bit, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd. For at least a year i have been having problems viewing sites that use flash player such as youtube, and facebook. I orginally thought my anti virus was the problem because when ever I uninstalled it the flash began to work. I switched anti-virus programs about 3 times go from mcafee to kaspersky to avg 9.0 full...and it still would freeze up on me. Now it  has been 2 weeks since I uninstalled avg 9.0 and now it has started freezing up my internet explorer and chrome when ever i go to youtube or facebook. Also for some strange reasion it also is making some of my programs like pinnacle studios 14, itunes, and window media player unresponsive. Currently I have taken flash out of my computer. And i have to use my ipad to view youtube videos..but i still can not view flash. I have heard this has happended to many people on mulitple o.s. , Please help. I have tried reinstalling it and it says that instalation failed evertime. Ive also tried reinstalling my os with no success. I ve tried reseting my browsers and reinstalling them....no success.

Hi a, I wonder what happened since it was working on 7/21/10. Then after you Installed AVG9 you started having problems, even after disabling the AVG add ons, etc.
You have had this freezing issue for awhile and I don't know what is causing it, although cleaning up McAfee certainly helped and the Re-Install of Flash Player.
I think the first thing you should do is go to the Kaspersky website and find out if there is an Uninstaller to use and use it if there is. Then I would go to AVG 9 and do the same. Then Reboot after using each one. That way you will have had a Clean Uninstall of both of them.
Then go to Microsoft and Install Windows Defender. That way you would have some protection and that along with the Windows Firewall will help until we see what is causing this freezing and then you can Install AVG again.
Also these: Dellweb cam central, informational alerts, dell data safe online, oovoo, fastaccess.. I wonder if any or a combination are conflicting. Have you had these for sometime or were any added about the time you started having issues? I am not familiar with them, but if they are in your system tray, I would guess they use Flash? I would try to disable them all at once, try your websites, especially youtube. If you have no problem, enable only one of those and test youtube again. Then enable another one and so on and if any are conflicting, you will be able to find the one.
    Thanks

  • Satellite Pro A100 - Flashing battery light and no boot

    Hi
I was sitting watching a video yesterday with my daughter when five minutes in my Satellite Pro A100 suddenly stopped working - cut out completely and wouldn't start up again. When I tried to restart the orange battery lit blinked eleven short flashes, and nothing else happened. The battery has been poor for some time, so we always run of the AC adaptor. At present the adapter is plugged in, but there is no blue charging light as I would expect.
With the battery removed do not get the orange flashes. With the battery in, and no AC adaptor, I do get the orange flashes.
I wondered if the AC adaptor had gone, and we didn't get a 'low battery' warning because we were watching a video. That would explain the lack of charge indicator. When we get the orange flashes we're getting this from the small amount of residual charge in the battery.
Can anyone else back this idea up - or anyone who can interpret the error code?
    Thanks
    Keith

Hi, yes you're correct - no way of starting the machine. Nothing happens when the power switch is pressed, except 11 little orange flashes.
The adaptor for this model seems to be a slightly unusual type - 19v maybe? I'm on to power adaptor number 4, and am beginning to get tired of buying them! Unlikely I'll be able to find a friend with a similar one.
I'm veering towards binning the machine and buying a new one - the screen is defective anyway and I'm running off an external VDU, so maybe it's just falling to pieces in stages!

  • Bright burst of flash of light and the screen is crashing does anyone know of this problem this problem?

When I switch between apps, when I switch between photos and when I sign into the phone after the LockCode entryI get a bright burst of light like an old-fashioned lightbulb flash between the apps and also when I turn on the iPhone the light burst is seen again after I enter the LockCode. My screens are now crashing if I'm working on a word document if I'm looking at a photo or whatever I'm doing it's like the screen just kicks me out and I have to restart the app or the project again. I have an iPhone 5.  These issues just started yesterday after I did the new upgrade for the iPhone. Has anyone heard of these problems before having to do with the new upgrade? Does anyone know how to resolve these issues or do they know if Apple is currently working on a fix them? Any information concerning his problems would be appreciated.
    Thank you, V

Somehow the iPod started the Assorized test and it is completed. Most likely due to a bad and dying battery which need to be replaced.
To get out of the screen, Just Reset the iPod - Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
The diagnostic might trigger again, until you get  the iPod overhauled by Apple or 3rd party vendors.

  • Apple TV update results in flashing front light and warning that HDMI cable is faulty

Just got a panic call from my Father who started updating his Apple TV (version unknown but it's a 3 as far as I know) and left the update unattended for 45 minutes or so.  When he returned the screen shows an HDMI cable and a message that his HDMI connection may be faulty.  The front light on the Apple TV is flashing repeatedly.  He's tried unplugging it and plugging it back in but gets the same message.  He can't get to the main screen to do a reset of the unit.  I could drive over and hook it up to my MacBook Air and use Configurator to fix it but I thought someone might know a way to do a reset on an Apple TV without hooking it up to a Mac.  I'm hoping the update process didn't fail and he's ended up with a bricked unit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I found a KB article that I think will fix his ATV.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367  Sounds like I'm making a trip to my Dad's tonight to do a reset for him.
