Flashing finder icon and showing "don't restore windows" and "restore windows" text box

hi, i hav problem with the flashing finder icon and showing "don't restore windows" and "restore windows" text box. im using macbookpro MAC OS X 10.7.5. i've search for solutions, lik relaunch the finder by pressing COMMAND+ALT+esc, but it didn't work for me...
any1 can help me, thx...

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Flashing Finder Icon/ Question Mark on Boot

    Today I left my 1.33ghz G4 Mac Mini turned on whilst I went to the shop.
    When I came back i found it eith a flashing finder icon/ question mark.
    I restarted it and it booted up a grey screen, then after a while the flashing finder icon/question mark.
    I have tried putting in the OSX install disc and holding down the C key to start up using the CD and nothing happen, all I get is the same grey screen and flashing icon.
    I have also tried pressing the X key, and holding it down and restarting to get up the startup disk menu, but again nothing.
    Pressing 'option' key during start up only gets me a blue background with refresh button on the left and right arrow on the right - with no Boot Up CD or HDD Icon.
    I have also tried resetting the PRAM, it resets, but after it hasn't solved my problem, as i am back to square one with the boot screen and icon.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    big.bad.ben

    I would agree with DP that using a wired keyboard will give better results when holding down the C key. The timing of holding down the C key is tricky, and you might have to experiment with it.
    The question mark means that the Mini can't find a bootable disk. Usually this is because the internal hard drive has enough directory damage that it is not bootable. Usually this can be fixed by reformatting the internal drive or replacing it.
    But if you truly can't boot from the install CD, that suggests a more serious problem with the logic board or RAM memory.
    When you power-up the mini, do you get a series of beeps or light flashes? The pattern of such beeps/flashes is a diagnostic aid to determine what might be wrong. Report back with what pattern you observe.
    Be sure to give the install CD some more tries, varying the timing of holding down the C key. Usually you want to do it right after the startup chime.

  • Unable to boot - flashing finder icon with question mark.

    Hi all,
    I just got a friends old xserv G5 to learn Mac and the server suite on. He gave me the OSX Server install disk (10.5 I believe) with the license keys.
    I get the XServe into "Target Disk Mode" by turning it on holding T and plugging my friends Intel Pro MacBook into it VIA FireWire. We install the Server 10.5 to the Server Disk fine, no issues. All options checked. Then upon reboot we shutdown everything and try to boot the server up on it's own and then this is where we get the flashing finder icon problem...
    Here's what we've tried:
    I think the Firmware is locked because when I try to power on holding power + system identifier button, both rows flash instead of the one, here's what I've done
    Tried removing a memory module, booting with command, alt, p + r, no effect.
    Clear NVRM by pressing button behind PSU on mainboard of xserve. No effect.
    Unplugging and removing battery for minute, to clear. No effect.
    I guess what I'm trying to do is clear the firmware lock so I can direct the xserve to select the startup disk by pressing F1 / D as I'm assuming that's what the issue is?
    Any thoughts?

    I'm not sure about the dl-DVD thing. I'm trying to remember how I installed 10.5 on my G5 boxes (it's been a while) and I know I used the Administrator computer as described in the Getting Started guide, but I don't remember if I imaged the DVD to a firewire drive.
    The easiest short-cut for that is to image the DVD onto a firewire drive and attach that to the Xserve and run it as the install media. It's much faster to install this way as well. Use Disk Utility to image the DVD onto an external firewire and then boot holding down the option key - choose the drive and then use the notebook as an "Administrator computer" as described in the guide. The only hold-ups are the IP space issues and make sure you know the Xserve serial number. In theory I think you can also use another computer with the DVD in the drive running in firewire mode but now you're up to three computers instead of 2 plus a firewire drive.
    I've never been a fan of the notebook>>Xserve install process even before architecture issues arose. The Xserve has special hardware monitoring capabilities that you would lose when installing booted from a non-Xserve box. I know 10.5 was supposed to install a "global" image that would run on both platforms but I wouldn't trust it even if they said you could.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

  • HT3819 When I sync my iPod some of my purchases from iTunes transfer, but some do not.  When I try to drag the songs onto the iPod icon it shows the 'crossed out' symbol and won't move them.

    When I sync my iPod some of my purchases from iTunes transfer, but some do not.  When I try to drag the songs onto the iPod icon it shows the 'crossed out' symbol and won't move them.  I've tried synching from multiple computers that are all connected with home sharing but it still didn't do the trick.

    Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
    Your media is only where you put it.
    iOS devices are not backup devices.
    Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

    If you mean that you don't have a rescue email address set up on your account as described on the page that you posted from (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

  • How to show only date in BO webi 3.1 text box

    how to show only date in BO webi 3.1 text box for e.g:-
    01/01/2005  (no time only date)

    hi,
    just check by which format your date is coming
    just create a one variable and check =UserResponse("Transaction Date From (mm/dd/yy)")
    if your output is in format of("mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss a")
    then some format we have to write in todate syntax
    then your final formula for date would be
    =FormatDate(ToDate(UserResponse("Transaction Date From (mm/dd/yy)");"mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss A");"dd/mm/yyyy")

    This may be a basic question... but in InDesign, how does one determine the pixel size of a text box? Specifically, we need to write text to specifications of 600 pixel width, and have no idea a) how to scale a text box to specific pixel width, b) how to determine what word count we can fit in, and c) how to do it in a table? Thanks!

    Set your ruler increments to pixels Preferences>Units & Increments. You can fill the text box with placeholder text Type>Fill with Placeholder text and get a word count from the Info panel with Show Options turned on from the flyout.
    From the Transform panel you can set a text box's width and height

  • Yikes - I "poofed" my user icon and I don't know how to restore it!

    First, I accidentally "poofed" my fan-out folder that's next to the trash (i.e. pulled it off the dock and it disappeared). I tried to restore it by dragging the little house icon with my user ID from a Finder window, but it just "poofed" that as well!
    Although I can still find my files if I do a search for them, I don't know how to access them directly. Can anyone help??
    Thanks --
    Christine

    Thanks -- it worked. I dragged the original icon and not the alias in the finder window, so I guess that was the difference.
    I feel dumb, but the problem is solved, so I won't linger on it.

  • Globally Stopping Finder Icons from Showing the Document Preview

    Unlike in Tiger, my new Leopard OS is doing something kind of annoying. When I am in a Finder window (I tend to always use list view), many files are showing a preview of the content instead of the regular file icon. For example, with a PDF, I am seeing a preview of the first page instead of the regular PDF icon. And the same is true for word documents. This makes it very hard to tell what kind of files I am looking at in my list view, and it's made even worse because I am using the small icon view. You cannot tell what the content is anyway.
    I can make this happen when I choose "Show View Options" from the Finder window. But that seems to only work for the current window. I need this to happen globally because I open I lot of folders and subfolders from our Xserve, and these type of setting never hold once I dismount and remount the server. Any ideas?

    which view option are you using? In columns view it's enough to remove "show preview icons" in "show view options" for one window. it will affect all other windows which are in column view. for other views you change it for one window and click "use as defaults".
