Flashing ms-6547 BIOS?

I have successfully flashed up to ver. 1.7 (regrettably) and now want to flash to 1.8 however I can't seem to get it done. Do you need to download the file into a specific location? I get the Utility screen and it doesn't show a location for the file I downloaded, and I tried to type the exact location in, and it says not the right file or something along those lines.
I follow the instuctions, but when I get into DOS it won't accept the C:\cd\test thing or anything elsefor that matter. I have waited for an update for some time so my DDR RAM would run at the proper speed. I know I am missing something, but I have done all I can think of. Someone have any real help? :D   ?(

Well I did what you said and even though it showed that it loaded it didn't. I checked the BIOS version # at startup and 1.7 still shows, even though I tried it twice. The BIOS showed to load both times when I put in the correct file, but when I look for the version at startup and in the system configuration Version 1.7 still shows to be there. I would think that MSI would have placed it in the Live update 2, but as of yet i see nothing and I check daily thinking that might be my only alternative. I have followed instruction to the letter and cannot understand why I fail. I have had back surgery and will be out of work for some time so my money is extremely tight, so I can do little to change the situation. I hope that soon I will get Windows XP and if this problem continues a new motherboard. You have been wonderful to help me thus far and I pray you are safe from all the danger that is spreading in that part of the world. My heart goes out to all the people who wish to live in peace, but have fear. My little problem is a petty one compared to what is occuring in the world.

  • Flashing a Corrupted bios when the alternate bios still works

Now that many motherboards are coming out with a back up bios, many people are asking about how to flash the failed bios. (BIOS A & B)
All you need to do is download the bios you want to flash, then using a fat32 formated usb stick, run the forum bios flashing tool.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Do not begin this process unless your computer is 100% stable! Many bios failures are due to faulty ram etc, if you corrupt your "good" bios the board is dead!
1.) Remove any overclock you have.
2.) Boot using the working bios, with the memory stick inserted into the usb port.
3.) As soon as the flashing tool screen comes up and you need to input, reach down and switch to the nonworking bios. (DO NOT SWITCH FROM BIO A TO B UNTIL THE FLASHING TOOL HAS LOADED)
    4.) Proceed with FLASH.
*This relates and has been tested on all mainboard with a true hardware switch. Z77a-gd80, M-Power, Big Bang X-power, X79a etc)
Note: If you use the above process with a z77a-gd65, it will appear that it has worked. The bios won't ACTUALLY switch unless the system is powered down. IE You will have it set to bio "b" after a power down and flash the bios. You then re-boot and switch to bios "A" and flash. In reality, you have just re-flashed bios "B" and wont see the difference until you actually power down the system. A re-boot will not switch the bios's!
    Process for P67, Z68 and z77a-gd65:
Since the P67 & Z68 both have automatic software switches that operate their dual bios's, the process is a bit different.
If you want to flash both bios's or you see the led indicator showing a corrupt bios, you do a normal bios flash with a single extra step.
After a standard bios flash/ you realize one of your bios's are corrupted, enter bios and navigate to the security section and enable multi bios flashing.  Save & Exit, and the board handles the rest.
Note: This will NOT work if you want to flash backwards. Multi bios update will flash to the most recent version installed. So if you have the P67 & Z68 make sure you don't flash your backup bios unless you are really sure you like the new one.
In the case of the z77-gd65 you are still able to achieve this, but you must flash your bios, power off the machine, switch the bios switch then flash again.
    Z77A-GD65 Update:
In regards to the Z77A-GD65, it appears that the only bios the has a properly working multi bios update is version 10.5.
I would recommend to most of you to flash you bios "B" to this bios for recovery if nessesary. I am sure this will be corrected, but for now this seems to be true.
Also to note, you should always keep your back up bios at the earliest stable bios version so that it is a fail safe. Flashing both bios at the same time is really counter productive.
    Thanks
    Update: 06/07/2013
All new release mainboards (Z87) with multiple bios's are equipped with a true hardware switch. So the same process to recover a faulty bios remains the same as Z77a-gd80 onward.

When attempting to recover any of the LGA 1150 mainboards.
Please use FPT, which is included with the latest posted bios here: >>BIOSes<< If you would like to use an older or un-posted version, FPT can be downloaded here: <<<FPT for DOS>>>

  • Black Screen after flashing the latest BIOS

Nothing but Black screen (fan, leds work) after flashing the latest bios...
Is there anything I can do, or just new bios/motherboard can help? (I tried resting the battery, F8 key..) Thanks in advance

I presume BIOS is screwed up. What you need is professional help with this so contact nearest service provider and ask for help.
By the way: check this forum using advanced search option. In the past I saw several interesting threads about BIOS recovering. Im pretty sceptic about it but maybe you will be lucky and find solution.

  • Unknown Flash type in BIOS K7T turbo

I have tried to flash the my bios with newer version but it seems that it doesn't work out and the message is "Unknown flash type".  Before this I already flashed the bios several times using different version until I used the 1.6 B for power bios from MSI then it seems that the bios get trapped couldn't get flashed with other version again. I ' m so desperate to flash my bios with BIOS ver 3.5 for K7T turbo2 but until now I can't get it done, could anyone help me how to solve this problem ?
    My system :
K7T Turbo , BIOS ver 1.6 B power bios, ATHLON 1 G, RAM 384 MB, WIN 98 SE, LIVE! OEM, GE FORCE2 PRO.

    Hi!
Happy to hear that you have things running again  :D
The recommendation - in one sentence - is actually the way to flash as promoted by Bas and Assaf (moderators) for a long time and it has now found its way to the official website here (so I think you should thank them  ) )
About the BIOSes: when you go through the list of available BIOSes, you will see that the earlier versions were issued because there were problems to be solved. after 3.0 or so there will be only some evolution in relation to new hardware (and for those versions - I remember in particular 3.4 some problems were reported).
Version 3.2 has proven its stability for a long time now and, unless you need the updates because - for instance - you have a 160 GB HDD, there is no need to go higher than 3.2 ...
Hope this helps (and: have FUN!  :D )

  • Flashed the wrong bios to Pavilion dv7- 6b57nr

My system was running really slow, with constant lockups, I tried every this to get it to function faster, it only improved slightly. I accidentally flashed the wrong bios to the system. the unit powers up, and the cap locked keys flashes twice then pauses, then twice again.
    please help!

    Hello!
That mistake is very unlikely. Kt3 uses AMI-bios, K7n Award-bios. There is also a big age difference. But the bios versions are numbered in a similar way:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=497
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=546
My advice is not to update with that version, especially not with LiveUpdate. Make sure the Kt3 Ultra2 motherboard I linked to is your exact motherboard, and if you really-really need to update BIOS, download from there and do a "manual" update. If you do not have a problem: Do  n o t  update!
I might add that the numbering of BIOS versions is a little confusing sometimes. What is the exact name/number of the "11.5" version?

  • *WARNING* avoid dead Neo2 or Neo1 board flashing to newest bios.

Se that more people are getting post problems after flashing to Neo1 bios 1.80
    or Neo2 bioses versions from 1.9x - 1.Bx .
    NOTE!
bootblock HAS to be programmed and cmos HAS to be set to clear by the flash program .
This applies for all that flash from previous versions for Neo2 e.g all versions below 1.9x and for Neo1
    all versions below 1.8x.
Using liveupdate 3 is a no go as it doesn't write bootblock .
Don't use liveupdate flash for theese combinations .
Instead use winflash from the folder C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\Award .
Se winflash method and follow it in my sig .
DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
There is also no USB2.0 support in the official bioses .
I think the reason for this glitch is that MSI has adopted the bios layout from NF4 boards and theese
don't have the three usb controller choices  disabled/enabled/v1.1+v2.0 but only enabled/disabled .

    Hi guys!
I´ve updated my MS-7030 with v1.9 BIOS with live update......
Yes, I haven´t read this topic before I do that
Before this, my system was running flawlessly (     )
    Now the situation is:
-> After power on the memory test runs ok but the POST stops without showing the memory speed and latency. "Press DEL for SETUP" and "PRESS F10 to enter boot menu" is still there but at this point the most times the keyboard is not responding (I´ve tried to disconnect and reconnect it again, changed the connection from USB to PS2 using adapter)
-> Sometimes (10% of the boots) the memory speed and latency is shown and the POST runs normally (detect IDE devices, etc at the first POST screen). In these cases I can enter SETUP and I´ve tried to clear CMOS defaults at the SETUP option and using the JBAT jumper, but still no changes. If I don´t enter SETUP the RAID BIOS informs that the array is OK but after this the screen turns black only with a cursor blinking at the left top corner.
-> Since the system don´t try to boot from some media, I coldn´t do the diskette repair/flash
    Can someone please help me?

  • 645 Ultra MS-6547 BIOS Flash problems!

    Hi!
I've just tried to upgrade my BIOS from 1.7 to 1.9 for this board. I downloaded the version MSI Live Update 2 gave me - it created a boot and rescue disk.
Install of BIOS went well, was successful. After I rebooted my computer, I can't now see anything on the screen. It beeps at me 4 times, then searches the hard-disk and floppy-disk momentarily. It then beeps twice, then another beep comes up.
I can't seem to rescue the BIOS with CTRL-HOME either. Has anyone got any ideas? I followed the procedure to the letter!
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hi!
Problem solved. It was an issue with the computer not recognising the AGP card properly. As I have dual monitors, I left the PCI card in the machine and removed the AGP card. After configuring the BIOS, I was then able to reinsert the AGP card - everything works.
    Thanks Assaf for your advice!

  • MS-6547 BIOS 1.8

    Hi all,
just found that MSI had released a new Bios 1.8 for 645 Ultra.
Before I flashed i thought that they didn't solve the IOQD-Issue (low RAM-Bandwith).
    But SURPRISE:
this new one seems good for me!!!
    Whats your expierience ???

8.) Compare the Files with a hexeditor
(Do not get confused by the first 16 Bytes, its only the Time)
9.) If there is a Byte which is incremented by one for every saved File, check which Bits of that Byte are used by VCORE-Settings.
10.) Try formerly not used combinations of these Bits, store the patched File to CMOS, make a reboot, and jump straight to Bios "PC-HEALTH-Page" to look what u have done.
11.) Keep in mind that another Bios-Version, "could use" these Bits for other things, so make a test with all Bios-Versions before calling "It WORKS"
    good luck

OK ! Done What you've said
    (Except for steps 10 & 11 from which im a little afraid :D )
I have WinXP so ive created a bootup disk (which gave me Win ME DOS) for the CMOS saving.
I have found out that except for the time bytes,
the CMOS's differ only in places 3E, 3F and 54.
Here  are the exact differences (values in decimal - I like it better than HEX   :P ).
The files are Here in case u want to check them out (or if you don't believe me  :D).
It would be my guess that 1.625V would be
    3E = 243 ||| 3F = 002 ||| 54 = 230
    And that 1.65V would be
    3E = 243 ||| 3F = 003 ||| 54 = 231
The only thing stopping me from trying it is that I fear that I'd set the Voltage to 1.9V or something and burn my CPU... so how do I prevent that from happening ?
Also, I have never actually flashed the BIOS and if something goes wrong, Is it certain that the Ctrl-Home Flashing combination will work?
Is there anything else that can go wrong? if so, how do I prevent it from happening and how do I fix it if it does happen?
Basically, is there anything that could do seruois damage, something of which I should really be afraid in the flashing process ?
Last question - How could it be that the CMOS files the CMOSSAVE program gave me are 128 bytes each, while the original A6567SMS.100 MSI BIOS file is 256 Kbytes? Was i supposed to enable BIOS caching in the BIOS before saving it ?(
    Thanks In advance  8)

  • Need help finding a BIOS flash tool and BIOS updates for HP Compaq nc8230 running Windows 7

I put together this laptop. It didnt come with a hardrive, and basically I installed everything from the ground up.
It is an HP Compaq nc8230, IDE Hard drive, Windows 7 32 bit. The BIOS on it is the original one. I've searched far and wide, but to no avail, it seems there's zero support for this model anymore.
Basically it was never intended to go beyond Vista, back in 2004 when this model was introduced.
The reason I am searching for some kind of BIOS update, whether it is BIOS or SMBios is to get the ACPI driver to recognize the primary laptop battery. This is crucial: it only sees both as the travel battery. Other than that, all else is fine.

    Hi:
Here is the latest BIOS update for your notebook.

You cannot use the windows based flash because you installed windows 7, so I provided the link to the DOS based flash.
You need to use a USB floppy drive for this update.
Oh, and the card reader won't work unless you install this updated driver which is not on your PC's support and driver page.

  • 570 GTX Twin Frozr II OC - Ok to flash non OC bios?

    Hi there,
For stability purposes, is it safe to flash the reference non overclock edition bios for these Twin Frozr II OCs?
I'm sick of having to use MSI Afterburner to slightly lower clocks and if I RMA the cards, they will just run benchmarks and Unigine... deem them fine and send them back.
The problems I have experienced are limited to certain DX11 games and lowering the clocks a bit seems to fix the issue.
I don't mind sacrificing 5 fps if it means stability. I've got SLI so it's not a big deal.

    Deus Ex HR ...crashes
    BF3 ...crashes
Skyrim ...crash to desktop without error
Lowering the clocks makes the system more stable and I don't want to use a softmod in Windows, rather not use Afterburner tbh.
Why I want to know if using the regular Twin Frozr II bios (non OC edition) would be ok.

  • Concerning flashing the P6N bios if needed

I was told I might need to flash my bios but am unclear on something based on some things I read in files from MSI's site. One file I had downloaded says not to flash from a floppy another at http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp seems to say its okay to.
This is a new system and initially the HD drive wont be formated untill I install the OS so there is no way to copy the bios folder to the HD. I have made a boot cd in Nero with The bios info as well as 2 floppy disks, one is just a dos boot disk which I made on my XP system and the 2nd just containing the bios and flash utility.
Hopefully I wont need to flash the bios at all but in case I do here is my quandary. Hopefully I won't need to flash at all but if my CD doesn't work and I have to use the floppies, I read in one text file from MSI's site that I shouldn't flash the bios from a floppy, is that correct? Or is it a case of first boot using the boot floppy then once its at the a: prompt switch to the 2nd floppy and run the flash off of that disk? Since the installed HD will not even have been formated yet I can't copy thee bios files to the HD.

If you need to flash BIOS, do that from USB key or CD/DVD.

  • How flash to old bios version (GT780)?

How can I flash my bios of the GT780 notebook to the previous version of the bios? Currently, the most recent version is installed: 1761_10E.zip
I might wonder why I would like to do this: I have some problems with my laptop (see other posts) and I'm not sure these problems were there when the old version was installed. I would like to find out whether the old version would solve the issues.

and what was your old version?
    I don't know  :( :(
I bit of a long story: my brand new laptop had a defective USB port. MSI flashed the bios to the most recent version and on return I noticed the fan issue (the issue I PM-ed you about). Didn't notice this before, but I'm not 100% sure about this. So I would like to try to flash it to an older bios version if possible. MSI tried to repair the fan issue, but they didn't succeed. All in all: bought this laptop after summer and up to now not been able to use it because it has been longer for repair at MSI than on my table...

  • K9NGM3-FIH attn DO NOT FLASH TO THE BIOS 2.60 !!

    Hello MSI support.
There is a error in the 2.60 BIOS for the K9NGM3-FIH.
This bios version locked the DRAM frequency to 800 MHz, this can be checked after the POST info.
While at the bios program you can change it to 1.33X after saving the settings it keeps it at 800Mhz.
Here I have 667 DRAM and I have experienced several Windows crashes. I had to flash back the previous BIOS in order to get it working properly.

Did you clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU after the BIOS Update?
Yes... I did, but the problem is the BIOS.  As I said, after changing to correct settings in BIOS, the POST info keeps showing 800 Mhz, what is completely wrong in my case.
    Please add to the list.
    11. Alert the MSI support about the problem
    12. Don´t bother if they try to convice that the problem is you.
