Flashing/noisy line at top of video clip when importing

Hi,
I am running into a strange problem when importing from my video camera. The top scan-line (or two) of the imported video clip is flashing! If anyone knows the reason for this, or has a solution to get rid of this problem altogether, please let me know! (its the first time I've ever tried importing!)
The workaround is to manually crop the top of the video, which I cant really do in imove for free? and would mean having to edit each clip...there goes onestep iDVD
I have a sony tvr310 digital 8 camera and am importing using firewire on my imac.
g5 imac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   sony tvr310 digital 8 camera

Analog-to-DV conversion adds narrow black borders to the left & right (and some analog "head switching" noise to the bottom).
If you view the output on a TV, then the overscan will automatically crop the borders out. But if you view the output on a computer monitor, you might want to crop them out. You can do this with MPEG Streamclip ($0):

My TRV320 D8 doesn't have such lines so your problem sounds strange. Have you tried to clean the camcorders heads?

  • How do i see video clips already imported in to an event?

How do i see video clips already imported in to an event?
I have already created and shared one movie project from the clips and from photos but now want to make another. However, when i go to the library it only shows me the content of the first project, including the photos, not all of the video clips i originally imported. I can't believe that I need to import them all again.

It seems to me that you must have imported your clips using iMovie 9, (that's why they are all in the Events folder which belongs to iMovie 9).  Then you must have upgraded your current project to iMovie 10 which will have put the clips used in that project (but not all the others) into your iMovie 10 library.  iMovie 10 has a totally different storage arrangement for media.  You should be able to update your other iMovie 9 projects by choosing File > Update Projects  and Events in iMovie 10.  See: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0.8/#/mov902ad0c31
This does not stop you from continuing to use the projects in iMovie 9 though any further editing you do will not be transferred to the other version of iMovie.
    Geoff.

  • Can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie

Hi, i can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie, it only lets me import one video at a time. Apple please fix in next update or if anyone has a solution please post.

Obviously you can not select the video to import until after iMovie populates the list of videos that are available to be imported

  • Thumbnails do not match video content when imported

My thumbnails do not match video content when imported. They assume the look of the first video imported into an event, while showing correct source content when skimmed through. Also, audio for every video clip I import is changed to that of the first clip imported in an event. Very awful to realize only when you've just imported every video you've made. Any thoughts?
Also, my source for clips is an external OneTouch drive, don't know if that plays into the import problem.

Is your Event source list visible on the bottom left of your screen? You should see all your events there.
There is a button at the extreme lower left of the imovie window which allows you to show or hide the event list. Make sure that it is in show position, so you can navigate to your other events.

  • Bug in editing a video clip when deleting a portion of it

I'm trying to edit out the bad parts of a single video clip. I selected the clip in the event viewer and chose to open it in the timeline. When I cut the clip in two places using the blade, and then delete the portion in the middle using the backspace, it not only takes out the video and audio of the selected bad subclip (good!) but also the audio portion of the next good clip (bad!), but leaving the video of the next clip intact. Am I missing something? Looks to me like an obvious bug.

  • QuickTime does not automatically open video clips when double clicked

Quicktime does not open video clips in iPhoto when the video clips are double clicked (nothing happens). Quicktime will open the video clip if I open quicktime
and ask it to open the video clip. Regular photos will expand as they should when they are double clicked.

It worked. I don't see why the Protected Mode is enabled in the first place, if it were to cause issues.
    Anyways, thanks Sabian,

  • Poor quality (vibration) on video clips when it burns onto DVD

We created 15 mins video on Final Cut Express, saved on Quick Time, and burned onto DVD. Although the video on Quick Time was fine, some of the quality of the video clips on DVD we burned was so poor....It had so much vibration on some of the video clips. We tried on both Best Performance & Best Quality, but they both had poor quality. Do you have any suggestions? Do you think upgrading to I Life 08 will help? Please Help!!!! Thanks!

It had so much vibration on some of the video clips.
Video on a DVD is mpg-2 compressed (which looks at frame to frame differences in compression) and is interlaced.
If you have content with lots of movement - like many hand-held shots - mpg-2 compression and interlacing will act to create lots of 'jumping' or 'vibration'. The only solution is to use a tripod and avoid shaky, hand-held shots.
BTW, for a short clip, 'Best Performance' will give you the best quality you can get.

  • Avoid losing clips when importing HD video to Imovie 5

Be aware that if you stop importing a HD video before the import is completed, and then restart the import without adjusting the tape on your video camera, you could lose some video clips.
I was importing a one hour video and stopped and restarted the import once.
Upon completion of the import I realised that I was short 36 clips worth 16 minutes of video.
This was probably caused by the HD import lag between the camera running a normal speed and Imovie HD running at a slower speed. When I stopped the import my camera was running 16 minutes ahead of Imovie. When I restarted the import, Imovie restarted importing at the point where the video head had stopped on the video camera. The 16 minutes held somewhere in a "buffer" were lost.
Since I identified the problem in time, I did not have any problems recovering the lost data from the original HD tape.

    Wow-that is good to know.
    Thank you for posting.

  • I cannot import video clips when working with iMovie

I have a 13" Macbook Pro running Mavericks versión 10.9.4 but lately I do not know what happened since everytime I try to import video clips into my movie or trailer I am unable to get it. Those thumbnail are grey out, I can't drag them out into my project. Why ?

In Lion, one can select a video clip, go to finder services, and click on encode video...it will transcode the .mpg to something iMovie can handle. Far as I can tell, .mpg is not something iMovie likes to play with.

  • Why is my video being broken up into different clips when importing

Hello everyone. I just installed FCP X last night and imported a wedding video from my Canon XH-A1s using FCP, but I'm having trouble understanding why when imported the 1hr long footage taken at church is broken up into several clips. I recorded the clip as a whole and just to see if it was a tape problem I imported the clip to my pc using Sony Vegas Pro and it shows up as one whole clip.....what seems to be the problem? Is it dropping frames or is it just easier for FCP to import clips by using this method....I'm new to FCP by the way.
Using a iMac with Intel core duo, 2ghz Snow Leopard

Is that true Tom? In FCP7 (and earlier versions) HDV clips are imported as a whole, not fragmented. Every start/stop moment causes FCP to create a new clip. So if Orlando's clip was recorded as a whole, FCPX should import it as one clip.
    Best regards,
WA (still very happy on FCP6)

  • H.264 video clipping when embedded in captivate 6.0

I am using captivate 6.1.0.319 and my embedded videos are clipping (not showing the last second or so)
The videos are of a compatible screen size and generated using premiere pro as H.264 mp4 files.
They work fine (although the audio volume is low compared to the other parts of the project - I think this is a known issue?!?) except for this clipping  at the end (of both the audio and video).
The clipping occurs when I play the slide from the timeline, when I play the project, and when I generate the final output media (another mp4 file for upload to YouTube).
The video is on stage and seems to play ok  with no clipping when i bring up the edit video timing dialog!
The video has the same duration indicated on the timeline as the source video file so i cant see that i have deliberately clipped it
Can anybody shed some light on this?

    Hi there,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Could you please elaborate a little more on what exactly you are trying to accomplish?
If you saying that the videos are skipping the last few seconds, please make sure the frame per second of the inserted video and the project are same.
    Thanks!

  • Narration does not stay with video clips when editing

I have been working on a large video project in PE7. I just finished adding approximately 100 narrations at various points in various clips. I then inserted a video clip that was missing and all the narrations seems to have shifted and are no longer in sync with the video clips. Any suggestions before and go to the timeline and move each clip?

If you inserted a clip, the timeline is designed to "ripple" or move over to allow for the clip.
If you don't want the timeline to ripple as you add new clips, hold down the Ctrl key as you add your clips.

  • Video green when imported to premier

I have a .MP4 video clip that plays fine in quicktime and seems fine, as soon as i import the clip into premier pro the video from the clip is green but the audio is still there, i tried importing the clip to encoder to change the format to see if that helped but same issue when i import it there, any ideas?

  • Video missing when importing Nikon V1 movies

When importing movies in FCPX from a new 1-series Nikon V1 camera only the audio is captured, not the video.  The same files (video and audio) play fine in Quicktime and are also captured without problems (although very slowly) in iMovie.

Hi I have bought the Nikon V1 and use it with the 10-100 Vr PD lens. I have just come back from a Skiing Holiday which gave me the opportunity to Test the camera.
I also use a Panasonic AG AF 100 Pro Video camera also
Due to size and weight I only took the V1 only
When I watched the replay on a HD television I was blown away by the quality of this little camera Definition in snow conditions were incredible, fast focus ease of use and LIGHTNESS!
I would compare the cameras as equal, although there are more things you can do with a Panasonic but at 5 times the price
So anybody considering this camera the V1, don't be put off, I am sure the market will soon make the appropriate converter which will solve the current problems

  • How select a range or portion of a clip when importing?

Upgraded from FC Studio 5.1 to FCP10.1 when importing media (mp4 or AVCHD) from the hard drive how do I select a range or portion of a clip in the media import window if I do not want to import the entire clip into FCP.  At this point I can select the entire clip indicated by the yellow outline around it however there does not appear to be any way to click drag to resize the yellow outline to select just a portion of the clip.
    Thanks for any help.

So if I have a 500mb .mp4 clip I have to import the entire clip? No possible way to select a range?  However FC alows native folder AVCHD clip portions to be imported, very interesting.
If I connect my Canon xa20 via USB to my iMac would FC then alow me to select clip portions (AVCHD or .mp4) to import?
