Flashing Orange Light

Hi, currently having problems with my BT Home Hub 2.0.
Everything has worked fine the last 12 months but over the last week my internet connection has dropped and the orange flashing light has flashed then reconnected (blue) a minute or two later, which happens every 10-15 minutes, more frequent when using XBL.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Problems setting up my TC. Have just bought new iMac(OS 10.6.8) and  TC. I tried to set it up. iMac cannot find it. I have tried direct connection with an ethernet cable to Mac or direct to my wireless router but nothing. Just a flashing orange light. Help for a simpleton please. Have tried reseting TC, but to no avail.

Just updated from 10.6.7 ---> 10.6.8 and had the same issue. Despite having done a clean install from 10.6 and got everything back off my TC, now Time Machine can't find it!
Green light is on, ethernet cable conected, network CP says its conected but nothing. Airport Utility can't find it. Hit reset button, Orange flashing light but still no show in Airport Utility.
But I know its there, as rebooting from 10.6 SL disk shows the backups are still ok?
    Hmm, ideas anyone?

  • Airport Extreme Flashing Orange Light - No Base Stn ID

Here is a huge problem I hope someone can help solve.
AE working fine for over a year. Hooked up new HD to it, got a requester asking for answers on this device. Clicked something (now I cannot for the life of me remember what).
Now no matter what I do the AE only goes to a flashing orange light, after power off/on, after power on reset, after power off reset, no Base Station ID found on any scan, have powered off/on the DSL modem.
No matter what is tried it always comes back to a flashing orange light and no way of accessing the base station to start over again.
Temporarily on a hard cable to make contact here. No hints in the manual, nothing more I can find on line for troubleshooting this.
How can I access and reset the base station so it is recognized??
This seems rather severe for one requester selection and now nothing!
    Thanks in advance
    Geoff

Finally some joy on this issue!!
Here is my workaround (or solution).
On the Western Digital HD there was a .pdf buried on it with the real hint. That is the HD comes preformatted in FAT32.
So first I connected it directly to the Mac rather than the Airport Base Station. This allows it to be seen on the desktop AND read by Disk Utility. It also allowed it to be read by Time Machine. However I chose to reformat it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Then the Time Machine initial backup was done through the Mac. When completed I plugged the HD back into the Base Station, went to Finder/Go/Connect To Server using the smb://10.0.1.1 address. Voila, The icon is back on the desktop and readable by Time Machine
I suspect this all could have been done without backing up through the Mac first. Just happened that is the way I did it.
The Key seems to be to reformat the HD to other than FAT32 for the Airport end of things. Seems to me that was the problem I had when I was backing up both PC and Mac to one HD. FAT32 as I recall will not work that way.
So a solution that works. May require the HD on Base Station to be mounted each time you power up. Minor inconvenience once you are going though.
    Cheers

  • Power Adapter flashes orange light and won't power on.

I woke up this morning to find that my power adapter's light is off and it is still plugged into the surge protector.
    1. When I push the button on the bottom, I get all 4 lights saying that it is charged.
    2. When I plug the laptop with another adapter, I get a constant flashing orange light from the power adapter. Mine will flash orange several times and then go black. It's like it's trying to communicate something to me but I don't understand its language!!
    3. I have tried resetting the computer, that didn't work.
    4. I have tried powering up without the battery in the machine, that didn't work.
Any ideas out there?? I'm thinking that I need a new logic board but I also haven't backed up my info. Any assistance on either of these issues?

I found out that someone had spilt chicken soup on my laptop and it pretty much destroyed the logic board, optical drive, processor and other technical stuff.
    *heavy sigh*

  • Problem with a Dell Monitor - stopped working yesterday, just a flashing orange light. Monitor or Mac Mini issue?

I've been using an old Dell monitor with my Mac Mini ever since I got it, however yesterday evening my monitor stopped working - however I'm not sure whether the issue is with the monitor or the Mac Mini. It just doesn't seem to respond when I try to bring the Mac Mini out of sleep. I can hear that the Mini is responding to the keyboard - I hear the right noise for pressing return on the password box without entering anything.
I've made sure all the cables are plugged in properly (power & connection to the Mini), but all I'm getting is a flashing orange light on the monitor.
I don't have anything else to test the monitor on, nor do I have access to another monitor to plug into the Mac Mini - I only have an old iBook G4, so don't have the right adaptors to plug the VGA from the monitor into that.
So before I run out and buy a new monitor, what is the best way to determine where the problem lies.

Hi, I've actually never had any issues waking this monitor from sleep, this is the first time that it has been unresponsive and I've had it for years - probably over 10! (E151FP) so probably overdue for replacement.
To be honest I'd rather not just switch the Mini off unless it's a last resort given that other than the lack of a picture everything else seems to be working ok - still hearing all the normal noises of Skype, Mail and TimeMachine etc.

  • Time capsule has flashing orange light? Anyone help please?

Time capsule has flashing orange light and iMac is saying 'backups delayed'? Anyone help please?

Just do a reboot of the TC to start with.. followed by a full network restart.. ie with everything off.. power on in order.. modem.. TC.. clients with 2min gap.
If that doesn't fix it.. you should do a reset of the TC and set it up again.
Tell us more if you still have issues.
    Full network layout.
    OS you are running.
    Firmware on the TC.

  • Flashing orange light and wrong size info

I have seen a lot of post about the flashing orange light so have an idea what I could do - but if someone has a definitive up to date answer I would appreciate it.
The problem started when I set up itunes then the ipod on my laptop after setting it all up originally on my desktop.
The other thing I have noticed is that in the settings section it says my ipod has a capacity of 92Gb and that I am using 16Gb which is obviously a bit odd on a 1Gb bit of kit.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    Thanks for that.
I have done a number of restores and still have the same issue.
On the restore front - I have read something about having 4 restore options, but I have not had any option choices when I have tried it.
    Cheers

  • Flashing orange lights between steady blue

    Hey guys!!
I've had BT broadband for 18 months and never had any problems. BT home hub 2.0
This morning, my internet was dropping (flashing orange lights on braodband and phone icons on the hub). I rang BT and they informed me there was an issue in my area and it would be fixed in a few hours.
I never fully lost service...it just kept dropping out and flashing the broadband and phone icons orange and then reconnecting again and going to blue.
I rebooted my router at the time they said, 4pm. At this time, the service status website said the problem had been fixed and so did the person I spoke to on the phone.
Now its 730 and im still having the same problems. My lights are all blue, and then every 20-30mins or so the broadband and phone lights will flash orange for 20 seconds and then finally go back blue. Sometimes I have to reboot the router to get them back to blue.
Is this just because there has been a recent problem and the router is just settling down again and getting the best speed back? Or something else?!
    Thanks

The orange flashing light only happens when a resync happens and the speed can go up or down.

  • Flashing Orange Light - but everything works fine

Hello I've found other discussion posts regarding flashing lights, however they seem to most/all be associated with a problem connecting. I'm connected as always just fine, wirelessly through my TC. I did a software update check and everything is up to date. So not sure why the orange light is flashing. Any help? Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Open Airport Utility, click Manual Setup
Click on the word "Status" and a window will open with a message about the reason for the flashing amber light.
If all appears to be well on your network, the flashing light may be an indication that a firmware update is available for your device. This would be separate from any software update notices that you may have received.
Let us know what you find.

  • My Ipod always flash orange light when connected...

    Hello,
I bought a new iPod shuffle some days ago.
I read on the manual that attaching iPod on a high powered USB port it have to start to recharge showing a still orange led.
I tryed on two pc (one is new and has also USB2 ports), on all USB ports directly , but I always get the orange lights flashing on my iPod shuffle....
I have not selected tu use it as pen-drive so I don't know why I still get flashing orange lend instead a still orange led.
    my iPod is broken ?
    thanks to all

I received an ipod shuffle for Christmas and am having the same problem. When I try to eject it (from either itunes or from "Safely Remove hardware" on Windows, i am told that there is another application trying to use the hardware with similar messages to those above.
It even manages to freeze my computer on Shut Down and on Startup if i leave it connected, and only when I disconnect it does the computer start.
i too would appreciate any help in resolving this.

  • HT1178 flashing orange light

I have access to the internet through the wifi network on the time capsule, but the led light is not green, it's flashing orange.

The flashing amber light indicates that the Time Capsule has a message for you.
If you can tell us what version of AirPort Utility you are using.....we can tell you how to find the message.

  • AE...flashing orange light

OK, Im at college and we do not have a wireless internet connection in our dorms so I bought the AE so that I could make my room wireless. It worked flawlessly up until this morning. Now, it wont connect to the internet at all. It doesnt give me the green light. Just a flashing orange\amber one. If I unplug the thing, it might give me internet for a split second then it wont load. My computer (Macbook Pro) is saying its putting off 5 bars of connectivity but when I run the internet diagnostic, it just shows the internet and server as yellow instead of the green for connected. Did my AE die? Anyone had this issue?

Does your University require that you register the MAC address of your computer in order for them to provide you with network connectivity? If so, you will need to provide them with the MAC address of the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
If that's not the case, you may need to setup the AX as a bridge to work with your school's network.
First, perform a "factory default" reset. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new setting.
    - Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • AX works (client Mode), but odd IP address and flashing orange light

    Hi,
Today, possibly after a very brief power cut, my AX stopped working, then seemed OK after restarting my network. However, although I can play over Airtunes, the AX orange LED is continually flashing, and the AX has an odd (self-assigned?) IP address. I can't work this out.
I tried setting it up from scratch. Using the Airport Setup Assistant, tried to connect directly via Ethernet from my laptop (with Airport turned off). It asked me to switch on Airport, briefly found the AX, then refused to find it again.
So, I removed the Ethernet cable and tried using Airport Admin Utility wirelessly. I could connect to the AX as it started up from a hard reset, and I could set it up. However, although it still serves Airtunes, it still refuses to pick up a proper IP address (192.168....), instead having a 169.254... address. And the orange LED still flashes continuously.
I'm connecting to a closed network, using WPA Personal. AX version 6.3. Mac OS X 10.4.9.
The AX connects wirelessly to a LinkSys AP, which is in turn wired to an Airport Extreme BS, which is in turn wired (via a switch) to a LinkSys (wireless) router (long cable runs, thick walls, don't ask!). All has worked flawlessly for years. Still works, but looks like it shouldn't!
    Any clues?

Hi. I'm actually having what seems to be the same problem, but after restarting and unplugging everything I can think of, the amber light is still flashing. Other than the light and the 69.47.... IP address (which I'll take your word for it being weird), the network appears to be working fine. Should I just ignore the light? We have three computers connected to it successfully right now, and I'd hate to disturb its mojo if the light isn't important.
    Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro(Early 2011) not turning on; Flashing Orange Light on Charger

So yesterday, I did a teardown of my Macbook pro (early 2011) in an effort to clean the keyboard because some keys weren't working. I used rubbing alcohol and As I was putting the keyboard and trackpad connectors back in, I heard the computer making a startup/shut down noise so; I realized I neglected to unplug the battery - out of fear of shock and impulse, I unplugged the battery quickly. The computer shut off and, ever since then, my computer won't turn on. When I plug in the charger; it initially gives me a very faint green light, and when I hold on the power button it changes into a very dim orange blinking light.
    I've tried:
    1) Resetting the SMC (No such luck)
    2) Unplugging the battery; letting the charger charge the motherboard overnight (No luck)
I'd really appreciate some fresh ideas; just to reitterate, it only stopped working the second I impulsively unplugged the charger. So, can a battery die from something like that? Short circuit? Any advice would be really appreciated as I'm in the middle of finals week and really need it.

My only issue with that is that there weren't any hardware issues before i decided to open it up. I know the apple people will be very eager to charge me for something in not convinced is a hardware issue. I just get the feeling i screwed something up while I was putting it back together. I'll post a picture of my logic board soon to see if there's something obvious I'm missing

  • I Solved Can't Mount Error/Flashing Orange Light/Not recognized by iTunes!

++IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST!++
I solved all of my Ipod shuffle issues and just uploaded 5 albums worth of songs with no problems! Now I am listening to Black Eyed Peas and it might me my imagination, but I think the sound is vastly improved from before. It took me 3 flippin' days to troubleshoot this and solve the problem, probably 6 hours worth of my time. Apple: You guys need to program your hardware to handle anti-virus software, Window's security updates, etc. Too many software conflicts!
Let me first tell you what happened that caused my Ipod to "die". Simply, I built a brand new custom PC to replace my Dell Inspiron laptop. I purchased my shuffle about six months ago and it worked like a charm until I tried plugging it into my new computer's usb port. Then all **** broke loose and the Ipod would not engage. I went here for support and tried updating it with the current updater (1/10/2006 version) to no avail. I uninstalled all the drivers, wiped everything off my Ipod manually, deleted files, made back-up copies of my library, etc. I wiped everything off my system that had anything to do with an iPod. Nothing worked.
THEN, I came across this article posted on Apple. Hopefully it is still up:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article/html?artnum=93716
Follow each and every step. The steps are laid out well, and nothing was missing in terms of a hidden step. If you follow it to the T, you should be able to restore your Ipod to like-new working order.
    Some key things to remember:
    1. Make sure you empty your recycle bin after deleting all of the iTunes and iPod related files. Then restart your system. Your system caches copies of files associated with iPod. When it see's another version, the two start conflicting with one another, and that causes problems. Deleting your Temp folder is also critical, and this is outlined in one of the steps in the article above.
    2. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you exit out of any anti-virus program you have running, including the firewall while you download AND install the iTunes and iPod software. Install the iTunes software first, restart your computer, then install the iPod updater software, Restart again. Do not dismiss this. It is probably the reason why most people's iPod's won't mount and they simple fail to recognize their system even has a firewall running (even Window's firewall).
    3. Be patient and follow the instructions. There are five printed pages in this article and it takes about an hour to go through each step, uninstall software, redownload software, install it, etc. After spending 6 hours troubleshooting this, an hour of actually making progress should be easy!
I hope this helps. If you cannot mount your iPod, don't throw it away or go out and buy a new one. I am confident that you will be able to fix your problems and be listening to music on your shuffle soon!
