Flashing Screen when screeensaver "should" come on...

So, whenever my MacBook Pro should initiate its screensaver, it starts flashing the screen instead. I have the following setting in place:
My screensaver is set to come on after 5 minutes without use.
I am trying to use a "stock" screensaver that came with the laptop.
My Energy settings are listed as "never".
What might be the cause and solution to for this?
Many thanks in advance,

I've tested various login managers and desktop environments, and it seems to have something todo with gdm and with a "framebuffer mode" issue (which I don't understand much). The problem occurs with various desktop environments, apparently as long as I log in with gdm. It doesn't seem to happen if I use startx from the console. At some point, I added vga=771 in my grub menu.lst file, ie.  from:
title          Arch Linux (kernel26)
root         (hd0,2)
kernel       /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro noacpi acpi=0ff
to:
title          Arch Linux (kernel26)
root         (hd0,2)
kernel      /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro vga=771 noacpi acpi=off
As a result, it gave me a multitude of "gdm-binary WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.06... seconds" errors. It didn't even start gdm, and when I killed it, it gave "Fatal Server error: Cannot run in framebuffer mode ..." errors.
I would like to fix the error "(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory" that pops up in Xorg.0.log, but I don't know how to. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How can I stop flashing screen when trying to open Google calendar?

This is just a recent problem that has come up and I have run all kinds of diagnostics, changed from IE 9 to IE 8, but I still get a fast flashing IE screen and at the top, it's like Google and IE are battling it out over which one owns the page, even though I only have IE 8 downloaded, not Chrome.
I also can't save Events on my calendar (when I could get into it) and have disabled the scripts, etc. in IE Tools. What can I do about these problems and what do they mean?

  • Flashing screen when trying to save a file

When i tried to save a file from Microsoft, when the screen popped up to show the possible folders to save, it started to flash at the folder preview (not the whole preview but half from mid point to bottom of the display). It was very lagging when scrolling down even though I still have almost 1GB of free memories. Most of the time I can't scroll anymore so I have to save the file somewhere without a folder and then drag to the desired folder in Finder. What should I do here?

Save the file as a new name. Close and Open the new file.
Most likely when a file transfer happens, Office makes the file 'Read Only'.
If you have two opened files with the same name, the last opened file will be 'Read Only'.

  • Flashing screen when connected to computer

My ipod classic recently started acting up.
The screen is black and non-responsive.
When I connect it to the computer with the usb cable it flashes on and off with the apple logo screen.
The computer does not even recognize that anything is plugged in though, and therefore it does not show up under itunes so i cannot restore or reinstall it.
The only time the ipod works is when it is plugged into my Griffin iTrip.
It works fine in the car and says that the ipod is fully charged but the screen just goes blank as soon as i unplug it again.
I've tried resetting the ipod while it was plugged into the iTrip with no success.
is there anything i can do to save it?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Anyone have any suggestions on this problem? The exact same problem occurred to my wife's 80 GB classic yesterday. The grey apple screen flashes when hooked up to my iMac via a USB cable. iTunes does not recognize it. It works in the car or house though with our Griffin power accessories. Unplug it from the USB cord though and the screen goes black. Battery indicator says it is fully charged.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Flashing screen when mouseover on URL's, or expand some AJAX menu

    Hey,
Sometimes when i mouseover on link, or some ajax elements (e.g. Facebook notifications drop-down menu) my screen is flashing, very quickly in something like this: normal-black-normal. Cycle takes less than one second, and i dont know what's wrong...
    Can u help me?

I'm pretty sure your problem is a "in user account" issue of some sort.
What I suggest you do is systemmatically run through this list of fixes, I suspect the #6 and #12/#13 would be the ones that will resolve your described issue, but you also could be having other issues wrong with the machine.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
As a last restort you could copy your files to a new User Admin account.
Combine two+ Users Accounts on the same machine
Also run through this to find any performance issues before they become a problem
    Why is my computer slow?

  • Blue Flashing Screen When Connecting to Sony Receiver with HDMI Cable

I'm trying to avoid buying an AppleTV by simply using my MBP and the Rowmote Pro app for my iPad. I have a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI cable which works great connected to my 55" Sony HDTV but I would prefer to use my home theatre speakers (vice the HDTVs) by plugging the cable into my Sony Receiver and allowing that to route the video to my TV. The problem is that when I plug the cable into the receiver's #3 HDMI port and then switch the receiver's input to HDMI 3 the MBPs display repeatedly flashes blue as if trying to detect a display. I've tried resetting the PRAM with no success. I would like to avoid the TosLink option, keeping it simple with just the one cable.

You can get a video output from a Mac in the absence of a display. That's called running "headless" or sometimes "server mode." But the Mac will only offer about four choices of headless resolutions, and if there is a way to extend that number, I don't know how to do it.
An item like a receiver may or may not have its own EDID (display driver). Generally speaking the ideal would be that it would just do a pass-through of the EDID of whatever display it (the receiver) is connected to. But for sure inconsistencies arise as inputs get switched around on the receiver or TV, and also as the Mac goes into and comes out of sleep mode. These are all factors that can cause the Mac to end up a lost puppy.
The Detective prevents this from happening by providing a continuous EDID connection from the Mac's perspective. So even though input switching is taking place at the receiver (or TV), the Mac never sees it, and in that case it provides a consistent output.

  • Connecting to Flash debugger when AIR app comes from background

    Hello,
I am trying to debug why my AIR app take a long time to load when it comes back from the background after an extended period of time.
Currently, I can only connect to the Flash debugger (the popup asks for the IP) when I launch the app for the first time.
Is it possible to debug it when it comes back from the background? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks!

  • Flashing screen when awakening my mac from sleep

Help: What can I do to fix my screen issue-- It flashes for the first 20 seconds each time when I awaken my mac from sleep mode: Thanks!
    (mac pro 2007 intel based)

Thanks, Linc.  I was worried that since this was a refurbished computer, it was dying again.  Makes sense, although alittle annoying that nothing really warns you this is happening.  I almost cycled power the first couple times it happened, thinking it was stuck while waking.

  • Random flashing screens when battery is low.

i bought my girlfriend an ipod nano (white 4GB) for Christmas last year. This Christmas the battery life started to degenerate to almost zero. As the battery life would go down the ipod would begin to flash random screens, such as the apple screen, the sad face, the low battery, the exclamation mark with file, the do not disconnect, and the charging screen. Then when connected to the computer the screens begin to slow down, and then it will return to normal as the ipod begins to get a charge until they completely stop when the ipod is fully charged. I think I just need to get the battery replaced but I don’t want to spend the money if there is something very major wrong with the ipod and I just need to buy a new one. Any advice would be great.

Is your cradle plugged in to AC power or a USB port? If the charge is very low on the phone, it needs to be plugged in to an AC power source to charge.

If you have AppleCare and/or iPod Nano is still under warranty, give them a call.  If not, take the computer to your local Apple Store or AASP.  The staff will tell you what is wrong w/it and let you know if it can be fixed after it is examined.

When my iPhone 4S (with ios7) experiences a failed call while connected to my Bluetooth hands free in my car(screen locked) the failed call appears on the locked screen, as it should, the problem arises whenever I unlock the phone, it automatically redials the last failed call, it doesn't do this with missed calls that are on the locked screen, if any. It is really annoying as sometimes the phone doesn't respond to attempts to end the call before it connects to the number. I then have to explain that it was my phone and not me, I look like an idiot, which I don't really need any extra help with!! Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to stop missed call from showing in the locked screen but it might be associated with the failed calls and therefore be the only resolution

I have had the same issue which was driving me mad but think I have just found a way around it. In iOS 7 if you swipe up on the lock screen to access quick settings and go into timer then click the home button you get into the phone without calling the person back. Not a great 'fix' but hope it works for you. Come on Apple this isn't good enough, fix this bug otherwise you will lose your customers.
