Flashing white bar when installin Windows XP

Hi
I made my partition, format it in NTFS, my Windows XP SP2 copied his file on my drive. After it, the installation programme reboot and then everythings stall. The white bar is flashing on the left top corner.
What shall I do ?

Someone said to try "at the black screen unplug you iMac for 30 secs" solution, so I did - and it worked! The discs now boot again, and XP initial setup runs as you'd expect it to. HOWEVER: every time I install XP now, and by that I mean the initial install, when XP copies everything from the CD, at the restart I get a message about hal.dll being missing from C:\Windows\System32. This is BEFORE the actual XP install take place, this is at the 1st restart after Windows setup has loaded all it's files.
This happens EVERY time now, even on the disc that worked last night. I've tried going back into OS X and removing/recreating the Boot Camp partition, I've tried formatting the partition in FAT and NTFS, no luck - every single time now I get "hall.dll" is missing. This is driving me up the wall.

  • Random Flashing White Bars Flash Near The Dock

My Macbook Pro Recently has been flashing white bars near the dock when it is hidden or when an application is running. It has been doing this for about a day or so now, its not like its a big deal its just annoyoing the **** out of me.
Here is the back story.I flew to Washington State for vacation and Ive been here since last monday. This Friday white bars started flashing randomly where the dock should be. So I have no idea why this is happening.
I would provide a video or a SS, but im on someone's computer right now, and I don't have Internet on my mac.So please help me out.
    Thanks

Andy, your response is well thought out. Shortly after my last post, I discovered for myself these bars are indeed being output by the Miglia box. When I shut down the computer for the evening, only the Miglia box and monitor remained on...and you guessed it...I still had bars on the screen. So the bars themselves are coming from the Miglia box.
Also, as you deduced, this apparently occurs when the box receives no input. The next logical deduction is that Firewire communication is being interfered with. I was suspicious of that myself. At the moment, I have no anti-virus software installed. Furthermore, I was certain to have all programs shut down and used Activity Monitor to insure any unnecessary processes were shut down as well. (The only thing running was Snaps Pro, which I shut down; everything else appeared to be system stuff.)
I've used two different cables and two different Firewire inputs. One configuration had the Miglia box on its own bus with nothing else connected. None of this made any difference.
So at this point, I'm getting suspicious about the Miglia box itself. I'll give them a call today and see what they have to say.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Faded screen and white bars when waking from sleep on mac mini

I just bought a new mac mini. It is the late 2012 version with Mavericks.
When I wake it from sleep, my screen is blurred out and there is a row of little white bars at the bottom for probably 10 seconds before the full screen comes on.
Why is it doing this? Is that normal?
    Thanks

Late-model Macs are configured to enter standby after four hours in sleep while on AC power, in order to comply with a directive of the European Union.
You have three choices. One is to do nothing. Use the machine as designed. That's what I recommend.
The second choice is to disable Power Nap in the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences. Uncheck the box marked  Enable Power Nap... in each of the tabs. You won't get the wake delay anymore, but you won't get any of the features of Power Nap either.
The third choice is to increase the delay before standby mode is triggered, or to disable standby mode completely. This is an unsupported option and you're on your own as to the consequences. If you choose to go this route, proceed as below. These instructions are for advanced users only.
Back up all data before making any changes.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Drag across the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo pmset –a standbydelay
Don't copy the blank space at the end of the line.
    Launch the Terminal application.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. Press the space bar, then type the delay you want, in seconds. For example, if you want to change the standby delay from the default one hour to eight hours, enter 28800. Don't put commas or other punctuation marks in the number. To disable standby, enter 0 (zero.)
When the command is complete, press return. You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. After running it, quit Terminal. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
To disable standby on AC power, enter this command:
    sudo pmset autopoweroff 0
and to revert to the default state,
    sudo pmset autopoweroff 1

  • White bar when closing application

Hi, I'm using a black status bar and when I close my application you can see a white bar at the top. A picture is worth a thousand words: http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/4014/whitekg7.jpg. How can I fix this?

    Hi !
I was full of hope when I saw the subject of your topic !
Unfortunatly nobody seems to have given an answer yet !
I'm having the same problem and also made a screenshot during the animation you got when the app turns off :
    http://www.kisslanding.net/img/statusbarbug.png
I added a UIStatusBarStyle property in the info.plist and set it to UIStatusBarStyleBlackOpaque
This works fine and as long as the app runs I do have a black status bar.
But when the app turns off, during de fade out animation there is a white strip on top of the window as shown in the screenshot.
I tried to set the window and tab bar controller simulated metrics parameters to Black and even none without success
I had a look at the behavior of Shazam which also has a black status bar.
First their plist is not correct since they use UIStatusBarStyleOpaqueBlack instead of ...BlackOpaque. They must get the job done another way !
Then I noticed they have no nib file. So they must build the interface programmatically.
Last, when the app turns off, it seems the picture that fades out does'nt include the status bar at all.
    See here : http://www.kisslanding.net/img/shazam.png
    Hope someone will help !
    Regards

  • Zen 4GB... Flashing white screen when powered o

I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem.
My new Zen... since the day I received it, flashes a white screen when it is just sitting there on my desk. It turns on then off real quick randomly... I notice it because I keep it at my computer desk... it happens at random, I actually see it happen maybe to 4 times a day. It does it on 4 different firmwares including the newest firmware. I was hoping the next one may fix it but it does seem more logical that this is a hardware issue. It works perfectly whiled turned on... but it seems possessed by turning on by itself and I am thinking of returning it before it turns into a bigger problem. I'm assuming bad wiring... maybe just with mine...
Don't let this discourage you though... it is a great mp3 player.

Yes, i have that flashing screen, too. It?s so very annoying ...
With the stock firmware, the .03, I have only problem, the hold-mode.
If I turn hold-mode on, the display shuts down, quite normal.
If I turn hold-mode off, the display shows only a white screen, nothing else,
music keeps running and I can push keys, but i can't see anything ...

  • Safari flashes white boxes when loading pictures or video, distorts text

    Hi,
I have Safari 3.1.2 and a lot of times when I look at a photo on a flickr page, when the photo loads it flashes these annoying white boxes everywhere. And when I watch a youtube video it will flash white sections on them. Also, when I'm scrolling through an article, the lines will double up and distort. If I restart my computer it will adjust to normal, but the after a while it will start up again. I've singled the problem down to Safari because Firefox does not have this problem. I guess I could just use Firefox and say sayonara to Safari? Any advice?

I have exactly the same problem with browsers, iPhoto, and also text breaking up when scrolling up and down (in Mail, for instance). I also have a Macbook Pro (15", 2,4ghz, GeForce 8600M graphics).
I have heard about people taking the unit back to Apple and having the graphics card replaced, and some people talk about it being a video driver issue, but this has been going on for me since at least 10.5.2 (that's when I first noticed it as a problem) and if it's a software problem it's taking a long time to fix it!

  • How to maintain upper bar when maximizing windows

    Hello everyone,
I've landed on Mac a few weeks ago and I'm not familiarized with it's features as much as I could desire.
I was wondering the possibility of maximize windows, and maintain visible the bar where appears the functions of Applications, timer and all that. It's possible?/How?
    Thanks a lot.
PS: Sorry if this is already answered, I've done a quick search and didn't found it!

I guess you are using the Full Screen button
To maximize/restore the window size, click on the green button at the top leftmost edge of the window

  • [GeForceFX] White bar when play vids in MSI Media Center Deluxe II

Hi everyone, im having problems when play vids in the msi mediacenter deluxe II, i download the patch and download new drivers but still the prob, and is wierd becouse in some vids doesnt appears and in other appers more wide than others, Someone know how fixed.

Just got off the phone with my local supplier and apparently this card is MONO only.  This means that when  you set it up go to the area where you can select audio type and choose MONO then when you switch channels everything will work properly.
Pretty cheap eh?  I have another TV tuner card that I bought about 1 year ago from Hauppage and let me tell you that card rocks!  I never had any issues with it and the TV broadcast is in dbx stereo.  It even includes a neat remote and FM stereo.  The TV@nywhere unit has a LOOOONG way to go before it's up to par with other units. :D

  • IChat chat window creates strange white bar in chat box when typing.

I made a topic about this before, but it was archived and not able to reply.
I wanted to include an image of the glitch. Here is a link to it.
    http://imgur.com/2YQd0.jpg
This is not an original screen shot, just a very close photoshopped version of it. Which looks exactly like what happens.
As you can see, there is a white bar that appears in iChat chat window after it gets a scroll bar. It appears for me after I type something (so the "..." bubble appears), then delete all of it (so the "..." bubble disappears). After the "..." bubble disappears, this is when I get this white bar at the bottom of the chat window, which disappears in a split second, almost like a flash.
I know this problem is really small, but it never existed in the pervious version of iChat. And the flashing white bar bothers me!! haha. Please fix this Apple! :P

This issue seems to happen regardless of other windows open. I tried resizing the box, I do not see any white. My background image tiles itself. Without a background, you will just have white anyway, so the white bar, if it does appear, is not visible by eye.
After replicating this issue myself again, I noticed this... The person you are chatting with must of responded at least once. Also, you must delete all the text you typed in the text area, not some of it. (You have to make your "..." bubble disappear from the chat window by deleting all of what you just typed.) Once your "..." bubble goes away, it is then where you see the white bar appear over where your "..." bubble just was. And it almost slides/pans down within the chat window.
Also I just noticed, that my whole background slides/pans downward with the white box. As the white box appears, it literally pushes my background image up and then it slides back into place as the white bar slides down and disappears.
By the way, this never happened on OSX 10.4 Tiger's version of iChat. I also believe it did not happen with Leopard as well, but I would have to check with that. But from what I've seen, this is definitely an issue that appeared in the newer version(s) of iChat.
I have recorded a video of the problem so you can see it in action. It should help explain what I just wrote. Here's the link. http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=20gd4hv&s=6
Right now it's to the point where I'm just curious to why it is happening. But I would like to see it go away.

  • U330 Bios v.68? Anyone still have this available? Still having white bar issues.

Requesting u330 bios update v.68 beta.
Had put away the u330 into storage last year thinking it was unfixable due to a broken LCD.  Learned through reading through the massive discussion, http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/U330-Windows-7-Drivers-Problem-amp-Solutions/td-p/1... , it was fixable bios/driver issue concerning the graphics cards.  The link for the v68 bios update no longer exists on the thread.
What I did: Per instructions, Flashed with v.67 (latest from Lenovo website). Then fresh install of Windows 64 and updated everything through Windows.
This fixed the power issue and most of the white bar issue. There are a few lines that pop up sometimes and the bar sometimes flashes on and off depending on the graphics use. For example, when I wash something on youtube or hulu.
New issue: Doesn't detect the discrete ATI card.  Only the integrated Intel card is shown on device driver and the bios doesn't allow me to enable vtx/discrete card or whatever. ATI is nowhere to be detected. Tried installing ati and the new amd catalyst drivers and neither can detect the driver either.
Reading through the thread indicated that the bios 68 beta would solve my the switching issue and the remaining white bar issues.  So I gotta ask. Does anyone have it available????

I can't imagine that it is really a hardware problem... It only happens for me when there is some kind of moving graphics on the screen and it isn't at the front of the windows or switching between windows. And it all kind of depends on whether I'm running programs with moving graphics or am at websites with graphics/video. For example, if I go to the Hulu homepage (which has a changing banner) and then simultaneously open the start menu or a folder in windows, the flashing white bar appears. In this case, the moving graphics is now "behind" the start menu or the window. But if I then click on the maximized homepage again, the flashing white bar disappears. Interestingly, this seems to happen only when I use Google Chrome as my browser. I can also make it reliably happen by just going to the desktop. Pressing on the bottom of the screen doesn't help me at all.
Given that this problem started for many people around the same time, which, to me, suggests that maybe there was a update to the graphics card or windows update that led to some kind of funky incompatibility.
Do other people have "symptoms" that are as specific as mine? Maybe we have multiple problems here ...

  • Capture white bar solved- mine anyway

In case anyone else is wasting alot of time by looking at all the threads that dont really say what works, I got the WMD1.08 driver from the link from another post:
and it fixed the white bar problem. It self extracts and installs, and after restarting I didnt have any problems with the white bar when transferring from VHS to the computer. I am using Nvidia FX 5600 and XP home and MSI KT3 ultra board. I am using it for home/recorded videos.
I wanted to post a this to actually help someone and not have to go thru a bunch of replies to someone's question while noone actually says that they tried it and if it worked or not.
I did reinstall my updated video drivers which DIDNT affect the capture drvers, but be careful and save the Navcap.sys and .inf files somewhere to be sure the 1.08 works.

:O  X( I'm trying to capture my home videos off of my sharp hi8 video camera.
I'd like to know how the F*&$%ers at Macrovision found a way to copyright my family reuion!
If I ever meet one of them I'm going to tear him a new a**hole
and the other thing is why do I have to spend over a week trying to find what the problem was and now spend more money (of course what the f*@% was I thinking) to fix something that shouldnt even be there.
I'm going to leave a message with MSI and if I don't have an answer by tomorrow evening when I log on again, someone is going to get a video card inserted in a slot they never expected
By the way. I did a search of this forum and other than going back to an old driver(which i spent the last 3 hours of my life that I'll never get back) which didn't work NO ONE HAS SATISFACTORILY ANSWERED THIS QUESTION!
What happened to the other guys did they give up?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Windows 7 bootcamp show black screen with a small white bar

I just upgraded my iMac mid 2011 21.5" with a crucial m4 SSD. The SSD is plugged in the disk 1 DATA port and on the SSD power on the motherboard. I fully installed Windows 7 with all the driver and updates. My mac is upgraded with the lastest update. The crucial m4 firmware is 009. I installed no driver for the SSD.
The problem is that when I start my bootcamp it only show a black screen with a small white bar on the corner. I waited about 5 minutes before to close the computer manually. The only way my bootcamp work is when I put my Windows 7 DVD in the reader for the startup.

Sometimes windows installation will install a WDM driver for ati or nvidia. It causes the screen to go black altho ugh everything else is running in the background. I found that using an external monitor will allow you to see the screen so that you can install the lastest bootcamp drivers. After the drivers are installed the screen comes back.  I reinstalled windows 3 times and tried all other solutions including repairing the hard drive in disk utility.
