• After downloading service pack 1 for Windows 7 Firefox did not respond anymore (I got the startscreen, but could not do anything, it "hang"), after a roll back Firefox did work again: are Firefox and SP1 incompatible?

After implementing SP1 for Windows 7 Firefox "hang"(I got the startscreen, but could not do anything: no response). After a roll back removing SP1 Firefox works again.
I installed SP1 also some months ago and had the same problems, also then this was solved also by a roll back removing SP1.
Does Firefox have problems in combination with SP1? How to solve this? Thanks.

Followed the given advice: installed SP1 again, ran Firefox in safemode, disabled other running programs as mutorrent, still Firefox didnt work. I had internetconnection (after restarting mutorrent this did work, the app telling me what the weather outside is worked) but no Firefox: as previous time I got the start screen, but could not browse the internet.
I also tried to start the Internet Explorer and it also looked as if that application had problems (but that can also be because I did not use it for a while - old version or whatever - and it is not my standard browser).
Have again performed a roll back in order to remove SP1, now Firefox works again.
If somebody has advice it would be very welcome!

• Unable to download flashplayer on WINDOWS 8 Firefox v 18

I have set up a new Windows 8 64bit  Desktop with 2 Users.
Both use Firefox.
One User - the administrator has no problem watching YouTube/ News videos etc.
The other User can click on videos but nothing shows or the video window flashes on and off.
A search shows Flashplayer is not available on the 2nd User's side.
Trying to use Firefox/Google to down load Flashplayer on the 2nd User side - the download works and the installation works up to 47%. I then get a message to close Firefox -  but Firefox is already closed. I stay in this loop of being told to close Firefox until I hit finish and cancel the installation.
I've tried this a couple of times
Anyone any advice ?
thanks

• Downloaded latest flashplayer for windows 7 and using IE 11 browser

youtube videos work ok but yahoo movie trailers and other streaming video just play video with a black screen. hardware acceleration toggle did not fix.
The video will work fine if I download it to my pc and then view it.  Any suggestions to fix streaming problem? thx.

Problem ISN'T Flash Player. It's IE11
This is a known problem with Internet Explorer 11 and (among others) Yahoo, Facebook, BBC, CBC, ESPN, NFL and NBA websites, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
Firefox (from Mozilla)
Opera (from Opera)
Safari (from Apple)
Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

When I open the application the following alert appears: "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory." There is a solution on the support site but only for Windows-based Firefox, and I'm a Mac user. I have plenty of room on my hard disk.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== Two days ago, for no apparent reason.

In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
* Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
* Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear
You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.
* Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
* chflags nohidden ~/Library

• Javascript works on Safari for Windows but not on Safari for Mac (2.0.4)

One part of our mail's web-based interface is not working properly when I use Safari on Mac (2.0.4). However, it works on Safari for Windows and Firefox. I browsed through a lot of the forum entrees with java/javascript on the subject and it seems that java processing is a common problem. I have checked all the necessary settings suggested on the forums but it still does not work.
We tried using the new Safari on another machine and it works. However, I also see lots of forum entrees asking how to uninstall Safari 3!
I also have a window on the open-source SugarCRM not working properly on Safari 2.0.4. Any fix coming?

I noticed that as well. I have to wonder if it's due to not making note of the the different end of line characters between Mac OS X and Windows in code.

• Flash Player for windows 7

Is there a flashplayer for Windows 7 Home Premium x64 bit because i can't play games or go on you tube without it and are adobe making one?????

I want to add to my preceding post, to be more specific about how to pin the Internet Explorer 32-bit edition to your start menu, making it easy for you to always start up Internet Explorer so it will use Flash Player:
1. Click the Windows button and do a search for Internet Explorer.
2. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon. (Do NOT click the Internet Explorer (64-bit) icon.)
3. Highlight "Send to" and click "Desktop (create shortcut)"
4. Double-click the Internet Explorer desktop-shortcut you have just created. That should get you online using the Internet Explorer 32-bit edition. If you have not already done so, you can install Flash Player now, and it should work.
5. Click the Windows start button again.
6. If an icon for Internet Explorer (64-bit) is showing on your start menu, right-click it and click "Remove from this list."
7. If you click the Windows Start button with a web page open, you should have an Internet Explorer icon showing on your start menu, and it will be for the 32-bit edition. Right-click it and click "Pin to Start Menu."
I suggest this quick test to check if Flash Player is installed and working: Use your Internet search engine to search for Samsung. Open the main Samsung hit: http://www.samsung.com/us/ (or use the link I just typed in for you). If Flash Player is working, you'll get a series of colorful ads for Samsung products. If Flash Player is not working, you'll get a dull white web page with a little Adobe sign in the center saying, "Get Adobe Flash Player."
Moderator: If you feel I am being pedantic or gratuitous with my replies here, I apologize. But I know that after I got my high-powered new desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition, I went through a number of annoying, exasperating days of web surfing where I was getting many messages telling me that I needed to install Flash Player. Those messages continued even after I installed Flash Player! Finally I discovered what I needed to do, and I hope my replies here can help new users of Windows 7 64-bit editions who are, innocently, using 64-bit Internet Explorer.

• Strange bug in Flashplayer for Firefox on Windows

Hello All,
First, I'm not sure that it's the right forum, as suspect the
bug to be in the flash player implementation more than in my code,
but here goes:
I have a simple .flv movie player. On mouse move (Over the
stage), an interface appears on top of the FLV playback component,
allowing the user to pause the movie. After a short while of no
movement, the interface disappears again.
This works well. The interface is not in the way and only
there when needed. The only problem is that I'm experiencing some
trouble with flashplayer for firefox on Windows. It works as
advertised in IE, 6+7 and Firefox/safari on Mac. The error
reproduces over several computers, so it's not a buggy
installation.
What happens, is that the FLVPlayback component pauses when
the mouse doesn't move. This is of course a problem because of the
40% black overlay that is part of the interface. So you can only
see the movie if you keep you mouse moving within the player, and
is able to distract from the interface overlay.
I implement the mouse handling as shown.
That's all there is to it. The show and hide functions do
just that. Make a _root.onEnterFrame and uses that to show or hide
the interface like shown.
Nothing in there has anything to do with stopping the
playback. I'm showing a button, that's all. Not clicking it.
The error only occurs in Firefox on Windows.
I suspect it's something to with Event handling, when leaving
the Stage area.
Is done in Flash 8 on MacOSX
Any ideas?
Best regards,
Michael

Firstly there appears to be a bug in the Kerberos libraries where it does not look at the local cache on XP. Try with -Dos.name="Windows 2000". This should trick the java libraries into thinking it's on W2K and look at the LSA cache. There appears to be other issues here but still trying to investigate further.
Secondly you haven't specified a CallBackHandler yet you have DoNotPrompt =false. Thus Kerberos will try to ask for the username and password (since it doesn't talk to LSA) yes none is defined in your call to LoginContext.

• I have uninstalled and reinstalled and Firefox for windows 7 will not open. There is no error message--it just doesn't open, even in safe mode. What do I do?

My computer is set to auto update for Windows 7 Home Premium and for Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010. I am also running Norton 360. There was a major update for Office on 12/10/14 that seems to be when my problems started. This month, every time my updates have caused a reboot, Mozilla has failed to open. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times, and it has only lasted a day or two before it crashes again. This last time it will still not open. All the instructions to troubleshoot seem to be based on the idea that the program is open and just has issues. I can't even get it to open up in Safe Mode.
I have tried to reinstall, and it says that it will launch automatically when the install is complete, but it is not working. Since Norton scans every download before it runs, I'm not certain if that is where the problem is since I never get the window that shows the step by step installer for Firefox.
What do I need to do?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. A clean reinstall is not the same as a regular reinstall performed using the built in installer. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u> See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279 [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer offer the option to remove personal data -->
Please report back to say if this helped you!
Thank you.

• Firefox does not start in MacOS in 10.6.7. For some reason I cannot create a new profile as recommended (error message Error: Platform version '1.9.2.16' is not compatible with minVersion = 1.9.2.17 maxVersion = 1.9.2.17) further help only for windows

tried to create new profile using Terminal but error message. cannot open in safe mode, instructions are only for windows All my bookmarks are in firefox

I had already tried a reinstall before, but thanks for the suggestion. Starting FF in Safe mode did not help either.
XULRunner is specific to FF. Mostly found discussion about using the code in web pages when I used Google before posting.
When FF went from version 3.6.14 to version 3.6.15 this issue started. Please note the Error message and the version info I just mentioned.
"Platform version '1.9.2.15' is not compatible with minVersion > =1.9.2.14 maxVersion < = 1.9.2.14"
The Platform was revved up from 1.9.2.14 to1.9.2.15
I could not find information on: minVersion or maxVersion much less how to change them in XULRunner.
It is definitely a Mozilla FF issue.
Avast sandbox is up to date and works just fine with everything else. More importantly it worked just before the update was installed.
The only reason I bothered with the update is because Mozilla touted it as a security issue and there was NO mention of any known issues with sandbox software.

• Firefox will not run after System restore or running in compatibility mode for windows 98. How do I fix this? I already tried all other solutions on this site.

I was running Firefox fine just yesterday. I screwed up the registry a litle while removing an installed program completely, so I restored the system and everything appeared to work fine. I then decided to play an old video game, Return to Krondor, which was made back in 1998, so I ran the program with no other programs running in compatibility for windows 98. After finishing the game, I closed it and put the computer in hibernation mode. I come back today and firefox will not run at all. It is not running in the background and there are no programs running. There are no services running which could interfere with it. I think somehow Firefox may think I'm in compatibility mode still, but I have no idea.
I'm running windows Vista 32 - bit with an AMD 2.4ghz processor, 4gb ram on an Emachine computer. I have already tried system restore, restart, processes etc. Nothing works. I can still run Internet explorer and all other programs.

The person that I was assisting, has Windows 7 which has 64 bit system. Her browser was IE 10.
Was IE11 ever offered (or installed) via Windows Update?
Is her computer currently fully-patched at Windows Update?
Is Adobe Shockwave Player v12.1 (or higher) installed on her computer?
Is Adobe Flash Player v15.0.0.189 (or higher) installed on her computer?

• How can I shut off all of the pop-up windows for all the Firefox updates?

How can I shut off all of the pop-up windows for all the Firefox and Thunderbird updates?
Apparently now Mozilla creates new versions of their browser and email apps every two weeks instead of just creating updates... I'm tired of all of the pop-up requests for these constant installation requests and all the problems that the new version installations create... I just want to use the software and be left alone.
I can't find a way to make Firefox and Thunderbird stop with the pop-up requests for new installations... is there a way to do this or has Mozilla just got it rigged so one can't just use the software without re-installing a new version every two weeks and running in to new plugin issues and missing features every time?
Help!
Thanks,

Is it possible that her computer is infected with malware.
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

• After upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, Firefox lost all my stored passwords, never asks to save them, even though I've checked box for saving them, have made sure history is not cleared, and am not in Private Browsing.

In Windows 7, Firefox 8.0 does not ask to save passwords, and does not save, them, even though I checked the box to save passwords. I have confirmed that clearing history is not on and that I am not in Private Browsing. This is so frustrating, it almost makes me want to go back to Vista. I have looked at all the suggestions to fix the problem in "Help" and have followed the suggestions, and none of them help.

I have the TX2 1012NR and its can upgrade just fine!  Here is a few recommendations "only if u have the HP Upgrade program disks"
If you have them you can install a clean copy and delete everything... Do not use the use me first disk included because it prompts you to install an older BIOS....  Just use the windows 7 upgrade disk and start the process.  The clean install clears your entire drive but does not void your warranty!   When you use the use me first disk after the install it actually loads everything else needed to get you up in running.  The touchscreen driver and the HP Mediasmart programs will have to be downloaded from the HP support site.  Once again its recommended that if there were any programs installed delete them do not try to update them!  This causes issues and countless errors.  Specifically with touchscreen drivers etc uninstall them before installing the ones from HP support.  I found this was not the easy way to do it but the best way...  I also recommend that when doing any sort of BIOS update that you remove your Battery and leave it connected to a power cord only!  Last but not least if you really mess up and its under warranty... Send it to HP they will set it back up to factory defaults under Windows Vista with the more up to date BIOS installed.  I hope my information helps! Sure you might loose some programs but in the end your computer runs faster and smoother because all the programs installed are made for Windows 7....  Also they did release the Touch Pack for download from the Microsoft website here is a link telling more about the features and benefits and how to get it as it is a totally free download...

I can't remove Bing. I've tried Control Panel, the article "Removing the Search Helper Extension and Bing Bar," and I have had no luck for Windows 7 and Firefox.
I wish I could share the two screen shots I took, but this question site doesn't have the option, so I guess I'll describe where Bing is showing up.
In the left hand of my browser, just to the right of the back and forward arrows, there is speech bubble with a black eye ball or something. I found out it's Bing-related by clicking on it. There is no option to remove it with either left or right clicking on it.
Also, in the right hand corner of my browser, at the very end of all my tabs, there is a white rectangular box with an orange "b" and a magnifying glass symbol. It will not respond to anything I try to do to it either, but if clicked it opens a new tab with a Bing search dialogue box.
Finally, any new tab I open automatically opens to the Bing search dialogue box (versus Google).
I need to get specific, step-by-step instructions for removing this Bing stuff from my computer. As I said, I have already gone through all steps outlined in the article I mentioned above as well as not been able to locate Bing in my control panel.
Please help. I'm certain others are having this same issue. I use Windows 7 and Firefox. Thanks.

Apologies for the formatting there. No idea what went wrong...
