Flashplayer with 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.6

I need help!!
How can i make work my older Macbook with the flashplayer?? Cant watch any videos on Facebook etc...
I am using 10.5.8  and Safari 5.0.6

The latest version that will work with 10.5.8 is Flash Player 10.3.183.90. It will likely get "booted" from most Flash video sites today by the HTML in the page. If that's the version you have, it's as far as you can go with Leopard. That's the bad news.
If you've got a PowerPC processor (G5), the news gets worse. You've reached the end of the road for updating a lot of software on your Mac.
If however, you've got an Intel Mac, then there's good news. Apple has OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for $19.99 and they ship free. You can upgrade without losing  your software or files. Snow Leopard is compatible with the latest Flash Player, as well as a lot fo other software that won't run on 10.5.

Same here on my lpad2. Can access the web just fine from browsers but cannot install new apps or updates in appl store.  Seeing a few others reporting same issue tonight so likely an apple server issue and staff will notice it in network monitors and fix it...sometime this weekend.

  • We have an imac with os10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10 if we upgrade to the new safari will it be compatible, and will it work with our bank?

We have an imac with os10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10 we have been getting messages that some site no longer support 5.1.10. I am concerned about upgrading, as we had trouble with a previous update with our bank. I checked with the bank and they are suggesting waiting, but other sites like youtube what the upgrade.  Has anyone had problems with the new safari? Our imac is pushing 8 years old, but we are not ready to replace it.

Upgrading from 10.6.8 to a newer OS has implications for many Mac owners. Lion (10.7) ended support for software that was originally written for older Macs that used Motorola processors. Owners who kept their software current had few issues upgrading to Lion when it was released but a lot of people suddenly found they had software that wouldn’t run any longer.
Another thing to consider is the age of your computer. A 2007 or 2008 iMac can run Lion fine and even Mt Lion (10.8) but Mavericks is a reach. It was Mavericks that prompted my purchase of a new iMac in late 2012. Given that you say your iMac is pushing 8 and you don’t want to replace it yet, don’t consider upgrading beyond Mt Lion. You won’t find Lion or Mt Lion for sale at the App store but I believe that you can still purchase them by contacting Apple directly.

    Hi Jo,
If I'm interpreting this correctly, the Word file downloads correctly, but when you open it in Pages, the link(s) which your instructor has embedded in the Word file are not correctly translated into Pages.
If the link shows the actual address, you should be able to copy that and paste it into the location bar in Safari, press return, and get to the website that way.
An alternate route might be to download one of the open source Office applications, OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, or NeoOffice. These are written to more closely emulate the behaviours of MS Word than Pages, and may provide better support for links embedded in Word files.

If you want to sync content that is on your iPod Classic to your iPad, it needs to be in your iTunes library first, if it isn't already.  From there, you can configure your iPad to sync all this content from under the appropriate tabs.
If you need help on how to copy content from the iPod Classic back to your PC, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with this task.

  • Installation flashplayer with windows 8.1 and IE 11 does not work

I have installed Windows 8.1 64 Bit and i am using IE 11 and flasplayer version 11.9.900.170.
All updates from Microsoft are installed.
Flashplayer videos are not displayed. If i switch to compatiblity mode in IE 11, the videos are displayed correct.
The tests of flashplayer with adobe website delivers different results as follows:

This is a known problem with Internet Explorer 11, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation (as you've seen) is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Tiger going crazy on iBook G4 with new security update and Safari 3

    I'm running 10.4.11, 1.42GHz PPC G4 with 1.5GB of SDRAM.
So I ran software update where I noticed new Security Update and Safari update.
I tried to run the new Safari - Nothing, it's dead, no action! ( could hear hard drive but no action)
Today I tried running 'Software Update', it's spinning it's wheels, over and over again.
I'm sure Apple is working on sending me an email, as they got the skinny when the program crashed I forwarded the system message.
So a bit frustrated hear, I'm using Safari and getting to know Camino.
The Biggest frustration is that 'Mail' will not boot up so I use my internet to check mail, bummer.
So lets hope we get some info soon.

If you are operating behind a proxy server, maybe this will help.
With regards to crashes from behind a proxy server, I came up with a work around!
I have been using Automatic proxy configuration using a .pac file. That seems to be causing the error.
After inspecting the .pac file, and following the if, ifelse path, at the very bottom is a proxy address and port for unclassified connections. Mine looks like this
    proxy.sun.ac.za Port :####
I have put this into my System Preferences for all connection types, manually. This is found under, System Preferences: Built-in Ethernet: Configure Manually...
Then you need to go through the box on the left and check each box. As you do so, paste the default proxy address and port in the open boxes on the right.
Hope this work around helps. My Quicktime is still not working for my older .avi files.

  • With router linked, mail and safari opens slow!

WHEN MY IMAC HAVE MY ROUTER d-LINK G604T CONNECTED, Mail and Safari take a very long time - one.2 minutes to open on my imac with 10.3.
Safari keeps bouncing in the dock. Then, after 20 bounce, it stops. The black triangle under the icon isn't displayed. After 20 seconds safari opens!!!
mail: bounce just 4-5 times, then stops bouncing, the triangle is displayed, but no windows is opened. If i right click on the icon, the windows says "application not responding".
After a minute the window opens.
This DON'T HAPPEN if the router is not connected to the mac.
    WHY?
    please help

I know it's very late to reply but I have had the same problem recently and the solution for me was to enter the DNS servers in the Network Preferences. It solved my problem immediately.

  • Magic Track Pad with Lion 10.7 and Safari zoom aA vs Pinch to zoom

    Hi,
I enjoy a Mac Mini (early 2009) hooked to a 50 inch plasma and surf from my couch, stream etc... We browse with Safari 5.X and enjoyed the new Magic Track Pad with Snow Leopard. You could zoom / scale Safari with Snow Leopard beautifully, with a pinch out on the trackpad, same function as aA option on the browser task bar.
Now with Lion, the pinch to zoom feature zooms but doesn't scale the safari window the same way aA option used to.  In lion a pinch out to zoom in will push a significant part of the browser screen off / out of view.
The aA option on the safari task bar scales the window, and keeps everything visible but larger, but now in Lion it is not available from the Magic Track Pad Gestures. The Button is still there on the browser but there is no option to access it from the track pad with a gesture.
How can I revert to the old way of zooming / Scaling a Safari web page with my Magic track pad in Lion?
    Thanks,
    H

You can see in that screenshot that a lot of browser.gesture.pinch prefs have an empty string as their value and thus won't have any effect.
You can restore some zoom feature by modifying the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page via the right-click context menu.
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
You may want to toggle this pref (I don't know what effect this has):
    * browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>

  • Parental controls bug with 10.6.4 and Safari 5?

When Safari is locked in Parental Controls it only opens approved sites. If a user tries to go to a non-approved site a dialog appears allowing an admin to add the site. If the admin authorizes ongoing use, the site should be added to the Safari bookmarks bar.
That's not working any more. The site is not added. THe Admin has to drag the url to the bookmarks bar and reauthenticate. If the admin does not do this the authorization will not stick.
    Anyone else see this?

Hi Carolyn. Is there any special reason repairing permissions would work for this? I stopped doing that years ago since I never had it fix anything. (OS X Permissions have deep and seemingly intractable problems, but the repair function doesn't seem to help.)
Thanks for the OpenDNS tip. I have used them in the past. Their new family filter is a good feature, but it's just a packaged version of their standard filtering (and it will have the same problem with local address drift as their standard feature - OpenDNS fails when your public IP address changes, you need to run a DNS updater). I need finer grained control than OpenDNS offers.
Apple seems to break Parental Controls with abandon. Sometimes I think the engineers hate PC.

  • Problems with YouTube - iPad app and Safari on iPad

Recently, I have started to encounter problems with YouTube on the iPad. The first is the desktop version of YouTube on safari. At first it worked fine, but a few days ago, whenever I try to watch a video, the playing area stays black and a message appears saying 'This video is currently unavailable.' One 'solution' I found online was to switch to the HTML5 video player in 'TestTube.' However, as the videos had been working before I didn't see why it was necessary, and anyway when I tried it only a few videos worked, with the rest showing the same message I described earlier. The mobile version of the YouTube site woks fine.
The second problem lies with the subscriptions feature of the YouTube app. When I tap the subscriptions button, not all of them show up. I've tried finding a video by the user I want to subscribe to, tapping 'More From', followed by 'Subscribe,' but this brings up the error message 'YouTube not avaliable.' Subscribing to any other channel from the app works fine.
Thanks - any help with either porblem would be greatly appreciated! I don't really want to go to the Apple store, and my free telephone support that came with the iPad finished some time ago.

OMG Apple, I'm am fed up with this stupid YouTube problem I paid $500 for my iPad if not more, and I expect better! I cannot view official music videos, episodes and I can't even view 2 out of 10 videos I search for. stop trying to make people buy from your stupid iTunes store and let them be able to view all videos on YouTube. Anyone who asks me if I'd recommend and iPad, you know what I say? Its not worth the money because the reason I got an iPad was being able to have freedom just like a pc and clearly I don't have that. They ask me; can an iPad do everything a pc can do, and I say no it can't, all because I can't view videos properly on YouTube. I'm 15 and saved for an iPad and it took me 2 years, $500 I regret spending!
         Kind regards

  • Aperture unstable with 10.6.4 and Safari

After upgrading to 10.6.4 I noticed a marked decline in the stability of Aperture 3.0.3. Not so much with day-to-day usage, but during stress testing with my 500MB panoramas.
Don't get me wrong, I am generally very happy with this version, but the errors I am experiencing now damage the database, which is a first for me.
Most problems occur when using a brush on a large image. Several things can happen:
    1) kernel panic in the ATI driver,
    2) becoming sloooow (screen refresh >1h and counting),
    3) claiming all available RAM and paging until the system HD runs out of space (>500GB),
    4) just hangs, waiting for some "lost semaphore"?
After a forced quit and a restart I get the message that the database is inconsistent and has to be rebuild. This rebuild usually results in multiple previews for the same picture in the browser, which is a bit scary.
    Some other weird behaviour:
    1) albums are empty in the browser until some other project is selected, on return the previews are back again.
    2) unable to start the external editor, it just hangs. This always happens when I am using a brush with my Wacom and by accident press the button on the stylus (should really reprogram that).
And now for the strange part of this story. When I quit Safari, all these problems disappear (except the ATI driver crashes, but these did also occur in 10.6.3). I really don't get this... how?
Looks like some problem with task management, because I also see some problems with other heavy multi-core applications (enblend), but I don't see what is so special about Safari in this regard.
    Anyone else seeing this?

After a whole day of intensive Aperture use, I still stand by my earlier conclusion: Safari 5 has a bad influence on the stability of AP. I experimented with other CPU en memory hogging applications, and AP never flinched. A whole day without a crash or hang.
This morning I opened Safari on an other desktop (spaces) and started editing a large 500MB image: skin smoothing brush with color overlay, H/S and edge sharpening already applied; Aperture went down in flames almost immediately. Same action after quitting Safari: very slow but still alive.
I also noticed that sometimes when zooming on an image or switching to-and-from full screen, the screen will flash some trash from de GPU memory in view. This trash is clearly identifiable as remains from web pages I visited. Again, only with Safari active.
With atMonitor I have tried to see if there is some fight going on over resources. Ap3 makes heavy demands on the GPU en VRAM, but not as much as I expected with all the openCL hype. Some adjustments are executed on the GPU, but most dominate the CPU. Even the brushes won't max out the GPU, with one exception: the color overlay. The VRAM utilization never exceeded 50%.
Now, Safari is a different story. On its own is was easy to push it to 100% GPU and VRAM utilization. Just go to Top Sites or browse some history or bookmarks in Cover Flow. Or leave a page open that has some nice animated ads. Apple is really serious about browser speed.
Aperture never handled a shortage of free RAM very gracefully, maybe it is the same with VRAM.

  • Using flashplayer with firefox 5.x and IE6

I just downloaded Firefox 5.x for windows. Have XP Proo Media version. Have flashplayer for IE6. Now I need Flashplayer for Firefox. If I download the latest version, how will it be known that it is for Firefox? Have the latest version for IE6 listed as ActiveX  in Manage Add-ons. Will my IE6 version be wiped out with the new download? Think it has to be a plug-in for Firefox. Please help. Will aslo have to do this for PDF reader, Java script, etc. Need this info as soon as possible. Thanks. Mike Margrave

Download the plugin installer ("for other browsers") from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/889580
And no, the plugin will not "wipe out" the ActiveX add-on.
Flash Player is the only software that has two installers; you don't need to worry about Adobe Reader, Shockwave Player, Java RTE, etc.  (And you don't have to worry about Javascript, as it is part of the browser.)
