  • Plugin Containers hogging memory and Adobe problems

    Hi,
I have regular problems with Firefox on my notebook. Firefox memory usage shoots beyond 500MB of memory and becomes extremely slow in any of the below conditions:
    1) There are updates ready for some plugins: I thought it might be because I had enabled automatic updates and had made it manual. Still the same trend continues.
    2) I run any Adobe application on the browser, like open a pdf from a website, run flash video either from Youtube or any other website.
    3) I open about or more than 10 tabs on a single session (typical while reading news articles from feeds)
It was very problematic with FF4, but I continue to see the same trend even with version 5. When this happens, I do not have any other option but to close all the sessions of the browser and restart. Sometimes, Firefox does not go away from memory and I have to manually kill the process from task manager. There are several instances when the processor heated up so much, the fan could not handle and the notebook shutdown automatically. This happened when I had run youtube videos and after the video ended, let the browser window open for long time.
Here is the config information of my notebook:
Toshiba Portege M900, Intel Core i5 2.4Ghz quad core, Win7, virus free, with latest CA enterprise AV running.

    Additional info:
The 256-color problem depends on how ActiveX'ed beans are integrated into native (VB, C++) apps.
If the development computer is configured to 256 colors, then on the runtime with 256 colors, the colors are ok.
If the development computer is configured to 16-bit colors, then on the runtime with 256 colors, the colors are wrong (dithered, ugly, wrong).
This tells me that the process where the ActiveX'ed bean is serialized to the C++ application resource file, some palette information must have been serialized out as well.
Question: what possibility is there to tell the ActiveX'ed bean or beans.ocx that it should update its palette?
A windows message? To whom, the ActiveX'ed bean, some component of it (HWND?), beans.ocx or some component of it? Sth that can be done within the bean's code?

  • Adding memory and CPUs dynamically to a VM

    Hi,
Does anyone know if these features are available with the existing release or will be available in future ones?
    Thanks

    Hi,
just note to be able to add memory, you have to start with high memory first and then decrease it.

  • X200s cssauth.exe hogs memory, Start button stopped working

I have an X200s with Win7 64-bit OS and 4 GB RAM.  Worked great, until I took it on the road a few days ago.
Now when I boot up I notice that 99% of my 4 GB of RAM is maxed out, and when I check task manager I see the culprit is cssauth.exe, which I think is a password manager, which I do not use.  It takes a long time to boot.
Until now, I had NEVER seen more than 39% of RAM in use, according to the desktop widget that monitors processor and RAM usage.
Eventually the RAM usage goes to normal, but when I try to click on the Start button, the Windows hourglass is running, and I cannot do anything.  Finally the hourglass will disappear (sometimes it takes over 30 minutes), but neither the Start button or anything else on the taskbar responds to mouse clicks.
I can use any programs that have desktop icons, but I can no longer access the internet.
Because the Start button no longer works, I cannot properly shut the machine down, and have to use the power button or remove the battery.
I was able to run Ad-Aware and Avast anti-virus, and they detect no problems.  I also ran both the short and the long version of the hardware test, which is available using the ThinkVantage button, but it sees no problems either.
Running msconfig from safe mode, I cannot find cssauth.exe, so cannot disable it.
Just before I left town, I was having trouble with a new HP printer (that had been working fine for over a month) and tried to uninstall the HP software and drivers.
Any idea what is going on?  The last time it worked was last Wednesday when I used it on the public wifi network at Seatac airport.  But after I got to SFO, this started happening.  At Seatac I didn't do much except check weatherunderground.com and united.com and maybe gmail.   I thought maybe a drive-by virus had caused this, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
yes, you are correct. That one was an typo of me.
The correct name of the application is "Client Security - Password Manager".
To directly answer you question: NO, once you uninstall this applicaiton it will not install himself after the system will reboot.
    Please try to do following:
Go to Add/REmove programs and right-click this application and select Modify (if present).
If this option is not present, then please go to www.lenovo.com and dowload the latest version of this application.
Or here is the link to it for Windows 7:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73696
Once you have it, then start the .exe and you should see there the option to repair the application.
This is the key, that we are looking for.
Pelase do it and let me know, if this changes anything.
    Cheers

    – appears to be related to Adobe Flash Player (I upgraded to the latest release, 12.0.0.44, when I upgraded to Firefox 27). Any page with Flash content kicks off the problem; successive similar pages increase the problem until the Firefox process becomes CPU bound. Temporary workaround (other than restarting Firefox) is to select Tools>Add-ons>Plugins, and then change the activation setting for Flash from "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate"
The above temp workaround works in an limited way. as soon as you reply to activate in one tab/window it then auto activates in all other windows/tabs.
i am running current version of win/7 64 bit, ff 28.0, adobe flashplayer 12.0.0.77

Many system do not work well with the Protected Mode feature of the Flash Player plugin enabled. The following pages provide different ways to disable that feature:
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]

    * Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078
Flash needs to completely unload from memory (restarting Firefox might help) before this would take effect.
    Any difference?

  • A process named "update.exe *32" and description is "Firefox" keeps using a lot of memory and cpu; the longer forefox is on, the worse it gets. How to prevent?

    using Windows 7, firefox 15.0.1
This process uses more and more memory and CPU, sometimes there are several of these processes running. If I kill these processes, it doesn't seem to affect the utilization of Firefox. Then the process slowly starts to use more and more memory and CPU all over again.
This happens all the time, every time I use Firefox.

I do not have a ComObjects folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files. That is not part of Firefox.
wscript.exe is a utility included with Windows to run scripts at the system level. It generally is not used by major programs. If update.exe is starting up with Windows, you may be able to find the script that wscript.exe is running using [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx Autoruns].
It definitely sounds viral. I suggest deleting the update.exe file, although Windows might prevent you from doing that until you kill all related processes. And if you have a persistent infection, the file may be restored or re-downloaded.
It might be easiest to seek assistance from a forum more dedicated to malware cleanups such as the following:

  • Studio 11: cc -fast hangs on acomp when invoked via gmake and hogs memory

    Hi,
i am seeing a weird issue here on Solaris 8 Sparc with Studio 11. Running ./configure with optimization CFLAGS (-fast -xnolibmopt) for libiconv 1.13 hangs on "checking for stdbool.h that conforms to C99..." with acomp being the last spawned process. Trussing the acomp shows a myriad of brk()s and the process hogs memory like there is no tomorrow.

29072 skayser   684M  670M cpu13   30    0   0:01.23 3.1% acomp/1I tried to let it run for a bit longer, after half an hour it is still there, hogging memory. On Solaris 8 x86 this configure step runs just fine. On both platforms (x86 and Sparc) there is no stdbool.h. cc complains in both cases, but on Solaris 8 x86 it simply quits, while on Solaris 8 Sparc it doesn't.
To be more precise: I can only see the issue when i let ./configure run under gmake (our build system is based on Makefiles). When i try to compile the [stdbool snippet|http://pastebin.com/m6010e35c] manually, cc returns just fine.

There is no such issue if i use /usr/ccs/bin/make instead or when i revert to -xO3 as optimization flags. Anyone seen something like this or any idea what could be wrong here? There is someone over at the OpenSolaris forums having a similar problem (" [Sun Studio 11 cc hangs when compiling|http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=209219] "), but there is no solution attached to the thread.

    Hi Sebastian,
The problem looks very strange... Probably "gmake" sets some environment, that causes the problem.
You can run "gmake" under "truss", to find out what is so special there:
truss  -a  -e  -f  -o gmake.tr  gmakeIt will generate file "gmake.tr", where you can find how "gmake" invokes "cc".
Then you can try to set the same environment and run "cc" manually.
This is a long way, but in many cases it helps to understand the problem.
    Thanks,
    Nik

  • Since new update my games on Zynga hog all my memory and run real slow - I'm frustrated!

I updated firefox and flash as suggested and I have had problems ever since with it hogging all my memory and running real slow hanging up and constantly having to clear cookies and cache multiple times a day. I tried chrome and I don't like it. I like firefox how can this be fixed.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Dashboard - a memory and bandwidth hog?

    Hello everyone,
This is a general question about widgets really, concerning how much of a memory and bandwidth hog they are.
I only have a few widgets on my Dashboard, as I'm worried they'll slow my Mac down. Can this happen, and does it only happen when I 'invoke' the Dashboard?
Also, as some connect to the internet, are they a bandwidth hog? (and again, are they only 'on' when the Dashboard is invoked, or always connected in the background?).
    Many thanks for any advice!
    Ben

So are these things always running in the background, or only when I chose to bring Dashboard to the fore? The first time you activate Dashboard after log in. Try it. Logout then, back in and check Activity Monitor, then activate Dashboard and check AM.
With AM you can always keep an eye on your memory and quit apps, even if they may not "force quit". However, the way OS X handles memory you shouldn't have a problem unless you're doing heavy lifting like music/video edit.

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • HT1689 what is other in my ipad memory and where do I go to remove things from it?

Need help my "other" in my memory storage is filled and I have no idea what this stuff is on my ipad and where to go to remove anything. Can't synch to I tunes because Iam out of memory because "other" has it all filled!

How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Weblogic java process slowly hogging memory

My unix 'top' utility tells me that my Weblogic java process is slowly
hogging memory, over a period of hours under heavy load, until the machine
finally starts swapping and performance goes into the toilet.
I got a copy of jprobe, which I had hoped would show me that I have memory
leaks, but it said everything was fine, I could see the little graph of heap
memory getting sent back down to 10 Meg every minute or so. Then I bring up
'top' with no jprobe, and I watch "SIZE" grow to 250 Meg and I run out of
virtual memory. Anybody know what is up?
System info: Weblogic Server 5.1, sp5, Solaris 2.7, JDK 1.2.2_07.
    Thanks in Advance
    Greg

250M for WLS is not very much. How much physical memory is on
the machine? What do you have your heap size set to?
Use the command /usr/proc/bin/pmap to dump out the memory
segments of the JVM. You will find one of the segments labeled
'heap' this is not the Java Heap, this is the C heap. Does it
grow? If it does, do you have native code (type 2 db drivers)or
any other native code? The JVM also uses the C heap. Compiling
JSPs seems to use a lot of memory. JSPs compiled with SP9 will
use less C heap than pre-SP9.
There will be another 'anon' segement that corresponds to the
size of the max Java Heap as shown by the weblogic console.
The 'Total' should correspond to the 'size' you see in top.

  • CTXFISPI.EXE/DLLML.EXE - Purpose? And causes of these erro

Hello. I recently purchased a powerhouse of a computer, Dual GeForce 7950 GT's, 2 GB Twin Corsair Memory, and what seems to be both a blessing and a pain in my ass; The Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi card, the Music version or whatever the exact name is. I installed and updated my software and both beforehand and after my pc takes forever to shut down after it's been on for awhile and on top of it. After 2 or 3 hours of playing I soon can't right click anything, html won't appear in any folder, I can't open more than one explorer window, many things. It took awhile to figure out but then I realized it was the two files listed above. CTX was taking up 56,764K for memory and DLLML was taking up 42,684. I don't know if I Can end these processes withotu damaging anything, I searched the forums before posting but found no deffinite answer. If someone could help me, please let me know ASAP.

First step - uninstall every single creative application
    Reinstall the latest driver
Load up your cd, never install Creative monitoring tools, and uncheck "audio drivers"
Run -> msconfig, under startup, uncheck every single creative service you see. (Such as "CTXHELPHER.exe".)
restart your computer. It may take a while, but please be patient.
The next time you start your computer, DLLML.EXE/CTXISPI.EXE will never load automatically, and they will only load when you open Creative applications and they will be closed as long as you quit those applications. Do so and you will not have extremely long shut down time.
