Flasing amber

I cannot connect to internet[with mac or windows] with the airport connected thru the alcatel modem.
If i run the modem connection directly to windows computer everything works fine on windows computer
I tried shuting off alcatel modem and restarting [while hooked thru airport to mac and windows ]did not make any diference, still flashing amber.
While trouble shooting this issue i have never unpluged airport from hydro.
Was not sure if i unplug airport and replug if i would lose all data and have to reconfigure airport.

Was not sure if i unplug airport and replug if i would lose all data and have to reconfigure airport.
No, the AirPort will not "lose" its configuration data by just unplugging & re-plugging power.
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the computer(s)
4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network.

I have an AirPort Extreme in the lounge connected to BT infinity.
I also have an airport express in the kitchen connected to a stereo system.
I have had this set up for around 12 months.
The airport express will not extend the wireless network.
I reset it, restart, factory reset etc and it will work fine for around 3 days, then I get the same error message saying
This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network. Make sure the wireless network you’re trying to extend was set up and is working correctly, that you entered a matching wireless network password into this device, and that this device is in range of the wireless network.
The express is situated easily within range of the extreme. And the airplay between those two, my iMac and two apple tv's works pretty much as it should.
Can someone please shed some light on this?
Maybe I have it in a wrong setting or summut....

I am also experiencing a recent failure in my Airport devices no longer extending my wireless network.
My Aiport Express and second Airport Extreme were extending my wireless network for more than a year
The only change that has taken place lately is that the firmware for both devices was upgraded to 7.6.4, however the upgrade was only in response to trying to resolve this problem.  Needless to say, the firmware upgrade did not resolve anything.
If I didn't know better, I'd have thought I wrote the above.
I have a TC from a few years ago (last one before the tower, I think), plus the older AEBS that it replaced extending the network, plus a 1-year-old Express also extending. I had upgraded them all to 7.6.3/4 when it came out, but reverted them all to 7.6.1 when everything went crapways (others having the same issues of the LAN regularly croaking), and didn't bother upgrading again since.
Today I just tried 7.6.4 on all of them, and it seemed OK at first with green lights all around in Airport Utility.  Then I made one change, which was to enable 5Ghz on the main AEBS/TC only (the express doesn't need it, and the older AEBS can't do it).
The latter two started flasing amber and giving the "unable to extend wireless network" error message.
So I'm wondering if you are similarly using 5Ghz?

  • New Airport Express/Old iMac

This is my first time trying to set up a wireless network. I have installed the original Airport Card in my iMac and I just upgraded to Tiger (10.4.3). When I try to use the Airport Assistant to connect to my new Airport Express, I get the "There was an error joining the AirPort network 'xxxxx'" message. At this point I am only trying to use Airport for printing (will be getting DSL in a couple of weeks). The Airport Express is flasing amber. I have reset it several times with no success. I have also tried to download 6.1.1 Firmware, but it will not install because I'm not connected to the Airport. Help please.

Are you in range of the Airport Express? First off make sure you are sitting next to the AE.
I have this setup you are talking about, AE with the printer attached and no other connections. This configuration in my house has no blinking light just the solid green. This configuration work well I have two ibook laptops one older and one new that access the printer via the AE and it works great.

  • Issue with magsafe/charging (blinks green, amber, off)

Having a quirky issue with my mid-2009 Macbook Pro.
A month or so ago, I began having an issue with my macbook charging. When the computer is up and running and I plug in the magsafe it will say "Calculating..." and then say "Not Charging" and then switch to battery use. It constantly does this as long as the magsafe is connected. The lights on the magsafe will constantly cycle from green to amber to no light.
At first, it would do it a few times then it would start charging. Now it constantly does this without ever stopping. I was editing video the other day for a while and it never stopped the cycle.
Thinking it was the battery, I took it into the Apple Store last week and got a new battery because it had been saying "Service battery" for a while and the battery would only last about 20 minutes on a charge. So I just thought the battery finally refused to charge.
    But the problem still exists.
The magsafe is new (only 3 months old) and here's the quirky thing: the computer will charge if it's asleep (lid closed) or shut down completely. No blinking lights at all. It will charge as long as it's asleep or shut down. So I don't think it's the charger. But as soon as you hit the power button to starting booting up, it will blink.
I have reset the SMC a couple times actually, but no change.
Is there something software/firmware related that I haven't tried? Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I take it back to the Apple Store (which is about an hour away).
    Thanks!

  • AirPort Extreme extends my network and has worked well for three months. Now it can no longer extend the network and flashes Amber. I have restored to factory settings moved it closer to time capsule and rebooted the system without luck

i have a blinking Amber on my extreme now and it cannot extend the network.  It was working fine and nothing has changed. I have restored to factory settings moved it to another room and rebooted the system without luck. Any suggestions

    What OS are you running?
Please give me a screenshot of the current AE setup..
I strongly recommend if you have issues.. take control of all the variables. Apple routers have too much auto..
Here is a list that I use for setups when using Yosemite.. but it relates to any OS.
You will need to factory reset again to get going.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite or whatever you are using.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
    eg AEgen5 for basestation.
Use AE24ghz and AE5ghz for wireless on each band, with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for router but if the AE is bridged you can have trouble.. Try using the static IP method or control it via the main router dhcp reservations.
    4. Check your share name on the computer/s is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Set up the extend to the Express using 2.4ghz and then see how good or bad the connection is.. this is better in the old v5 utility but if you hover your mouse over where it shows connection an extra chunk of info comes up.
I have specifically used 5ghz to make the extend.. because by testing it works better.. but do not be fooled.. this good connection is poor.. the RSSI.. which is difference signal .. at -79dbm is down the bottom of the stable.. and it drops out on a daily basis.. you want to see that signal around -60dbm at min.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.

Reset my airport extreme to factory settings, now getting flashing amber light. Airport utility scan does not see the device, so I cannot access any setup.

  • Amber light won't work, green still does

I've encountered an odd problem, albeit not that serious. When I first plug my magsafe power adapter in the light on the magnet part turns green, then instead of turning to amber as it previously did it simply goes off. The computer is showing that it is charging in the menu bar. I haven't been able to fully charge it yet, and when I do I will post a reply to see if the light turns green when it has a full charge, if so I guess the little led burned out.

Yes, the green light goes on when the battery is fully charged, so it must be that the amber light is simply dead. Quite rare, I would imagine, LED's are usually pretty resilient.

  • MagSafe LED always amber - Battery won't charge past 90%

My 2007 SantaRosa model also suffered from the Navidia 8600 chip failure and I took it in for diagnosis and repair under them unannounced 'recall'. I got it back and all was working just fine... for the first week. It was actually working better than before, and still is except that quite suddenly, the battery has stopped charging all the way up to 99-100%, and the amber light on the MagSafe adapter of the charger will not change to green. Right now the battery will not charge above 90%, and the charger has been attached over-night. The charger is not over-heating as far as my touch can tell, there is no fray in the MagSafeplug, it is clean and it is plugged into a reliable outlet.
Yes, I did do an SMC reset, ran the long version of the Apple Hardware Test from the install disks, and did do a battery recalibration. The Hardware test indicated that there was no problem with the laptop, and as part of the logic board replacement due to the Navidia problem, the Apple techs also had successfully run the full course of diagnostics - no problems indicated.
I have a second battery that I installed and still get the same result - incomplete charging and constant amber LED.
Any of you had this problem or have suggestions of another route to follow in troubleshooting this pain the the rump?? I've Googled this problem to death and not seen a page that mentions a problem where the MBP charger amber light stays on constantly with incomplete battery charging.
Let's see if the collective powers of this forum have the solution! Thanks in advance to all...

and I took it in for diagnosis and repair under them unannounced 'recall'.
Take it back ASAP. If the problems started after the logic board replacement (that's the nVidea fix) then something about the new board or the way it was reassembled is wrong.

  • Magsafe Adapter show amber light but it's not charging.

I have a problem with my Macbook Air (Mid 2011), when I plug the Magsafe AC Power Adapter sometimes just doesn't charge the battery, sometimes shows the green light and sometimes the amber light.
I tried restarting the SMC, also I tried to use other Magsafe Adapter. Even I tested the Magsafe with another Macbook and works fine.
I already cleaned both ports with a toothbrush.
I don't know what else I can do. Please help me.

Do you have a friend with a MacBook? If so try their power adapter and see if that works. If it does then you have a bad power adapter. And check this Apple Support article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713

  • Magsafe indicator faint/dim and blinking amber/green

I am working on a Macbook purchased in November 2008. Until now, no problems, but this morning after a full night's charge, I ran it for about two hours without being plugged in. When I plugged it in to charge, the indicator light on the magsafe would not light and the macbook would not take a charge. Fortunately, I had another magsafe power adapter, but this would also not charge the battery. I reset the SMC, thinking it was the cause of the problem, but still no luck with either adapter.
I went to the genius bar, where they plugged in my macbook with one of their adapters. Charging and startup. They recommended that I had a problem with my adapters, so I purchased an 85w adapter. I brought that adapter home and plugged it in macbook. Nothing. I went to my THIRD older magsafe adapter and when plugged in I got a faint/dim LED. Unplug, take it back to 85w. No light, no charge. Back to third, older magsafe and I get a faint/dim LED that flashes between faint amber and faint green.
The computer will not start up now even with the battery removed.
    Thoughts?

    Hi
The problem might not be with the adapters but with the power source. Try plugging in the charger into different wall sockets in the house. Try a friend's house too
If that still doesn't work go back to the Apple store with the charger and ask for help

  • TS1372 My ipod shuffle blinks grn, amber, grn, amber, grn, amber and does not play any music

I am unable to use my ipod because it blinks green and amber three times and I get no music.  It was working fine until I was charging it and my wife used the computer while it was charging, not to say she did anything of course.  At the present time I am unable to do anything with it, if anyone can help I would be appriciate it.
                                                              Thank, Harry

If the light stays green then it won't play music. You're probably right that the Reset Utility won't help you in this case, but it'd be better if you clearly stated that you'd tried it without effect instead of an assurance that it's not the fix for you.
Had you gone to the iPod Shuffle Support Page you could have followed links to several different Knowledge Base (KB) articles which address this issue. Seeing as how you missed that, here are a couple of them:

  • Macbook won't turn on, won't charge either (no green/amber light)

So I was cleaning my keyboard today (just with water and a towel) and after cleaning, the screen shut off but my macbook was still turned on (could hear the fans). It wouldn't respond to anything and I tried a hard shut down but this did not work either. I was forced to take the battery out to shut it down.
Now it won't turn on. I tried plugging it into my magsafe power adapter but it won't charge. There is no light (neither green or amber). My battery still has 2 green dots when I test it.
I've tried resetting the power settings by removing the charger, battery, and then holding the power down for 5 seconds. This did not work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had a very similar problem. My battery died about nine months ago and I've been going off AC since then. It recently started not turning on though.. I closed the lid one day and went for a walk and when I came back about an hour later it was like it was in a constant sleep mode. Since then it turned on once successfully. But I am getting the same dim green light for about three seconds and then it goes full. When I try to turn it on the fan or hard drive (not sure) starts spinning and the screen flashes but then it just sits with the sleep light on. When I read your thread though I realized I may have gotten it wet when carrying it to and from my car. I no longer have a warranty or care plan or whatever so apple won't help me one bit. SO yeah I thought I'd share that and maybe it can help you somehow..

  • Ibook G4 late 2004 model charging intermittently-flashes amber then green

Hi there, i have an ibook G4 14 inch late 2004 with mac os x 10.4.11. my previous 45w power cord needed to be jiggled in order to power the laptop (it was pretty damaged). yesterday, it stopped working completely, so i went to the apple store and bought a new 65w power cord. of course, it worked perfectly in the store. when i went home, it seemed to work perfectly until the battery reached about 37%, then it started doing this weird thing. while plugged in, the light on the power cord started flashing, changing from green to amber. it will be green for about 8 seconds, then amber for about 6 seconds.
it does this whether the computer is being used or shut down. while i was using the computer, the battery drained pretty quickly, so i shut it down and left it plugged in overnight. overnight, it seemed to have charged a little bit. the battery says it is 55% charged and, when i open my energy saver on system preferences, it will appear as if it is charging while the power cord light flashes amber, then stops charging when the power cord light flashes green. as i said, it will be amber for about 6 seconds, then green for about 8 seconds.
i tried resetting the PMU, but it did not work (perhaps i did it incorrectly?). i then tried to reset the pmu and the pram via these instructions:
    turned computer off.
Make sure the Caps Lock key is not down.
Restart the computer. Immediately after hearing the startup sound, simultaneously press and hold Command-Option-P-R. (If you do not hold down the key combination within 5 to 10 seconds after the computer restarts, you must repeat steps 1-3.)
Hold down the keys until you hear the startup sound again. Then release the keys.
If the computer shuts itself off, press the reset button on the back of the computer to turn it back on.
that didn't work. then i tried to just reset the PMU again (via the support instructions) by turning the computer off, then simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Did not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
Waited 5 seconds, then pressed the power button.
    that didn't help either.
i have been trying to figure this out but have not been able to thus far. of course, aside from being able to read, i have no computer savvy whatsoever. ANY help would be so appreciated. sorry i typed so much, but since i do not know much about computers, i was unsure what information was most pertinent.
thanks again, SOOOO much, for any help. i would be glad to answer any medical questions as a thank you.

There may be other issues in the computer's hardware, such as the
battery; as it should have about 4,000 (mAh) in full capacity when it
is charged and the one you have appears to be at best, 50% of that.
Also, there is a chance the DC-in Board may be defective or have a
poor internal connection where the AC Adapter plugs into the iBook.
    There are some pages at iFixit.com about how to remedy this defect;
and parts are available to repair this, still. (But suspect the battery, 1st.)
I'm looking at the charging information on your log report and wonder if
the battery is the reason why there is a Zero, in that section; or if there
is some DC-in Board reason. Without a known-good battery, it's hard to
tell what else may be going on. Unless you take it to a Genius bar...(?)

Troubleshooting power related issues in a portable computer can be a
bit tedious as the computers age, and potential sources of the problem
may be at play in there, at the same time.
There also is a matter of calibrating a battery on a routine basis, to be sure
it works correctly and the microchip controller for charging it is working OK.
    • Apple Portables: Calibrating your computer's battery for best performance:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490?viewlocale=en_US
The battery is the most likely culprit in the matter of the charge light indicator
changing color from Amber to Green and back again, like that. This is a matter
of troubleshooting, so if you know someone with a healthy iBook G4 battery
(as noted in Profiler's battery or energy information, hi-power/low-use cycles)
you may be able to check the activity without additional purchases.
Be sure to get a replacement battery from a reputable company, as some of
the third-party cheap imports have less battery capacity when new than an
old partially used Apple battery would have. (And flaky warranty, too.)
The battery is the most likely item, at this point. A replacement is suggested.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Green/amber lights blink & Mac not recognizing unit

I used iTunes and loaded music onto my shuffle this morning with no problems. I listened to it for about an hour and a half. Later, I plugged it into my computer. The computer and iTunes no longer recognizes the unit. Our other computer does not recognize it either. When I connect it to the USB port, it:
    1)blinks green once
    2)pauses
    3)blinks green/amber together
    4)blinks amber thereafter
It still plays music... but of course I can't update the play list and do not know if it is actually charging.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated! I'm unable to do the restore since the computer doesn't know it's connected.

Cannot run the reset utility... the computer is not
recognizing that it is plugged in so I cannot select
    the restore button...
What does Apple System Profiler say about the USB tree AND the "iPod"? Also, disconnect the Shuffle, reboot and try again.
BTW, the light sequence you listed is perfectly NORMAL...with the exception that something is accessing the Shuffle OR it's "enabled for data" e.g. it's being seen as a flash drive.
