Flat bed scanner not recognized

I connected a ColorPage-Vivid 1200X scanner to see if my Mac would recognize it. Apparently, it knows that it is connected since I get in the device tree,
1200DPI USB Scanner:
  Product ID:          0x201d
Vendor ID:          0x0458  (KYE Systems Corp.)
  Version:           5.07
  Speed:          Up to 12 Mb/sec
  Location ID:          0x06200000 / 4
  Current Available (mA):          500
  Current Required (mA):          100,
connected to a USB port. Now when I run the Image capture app, it says that there are no scanners connected. Thought that driver s/w might be missing, so I went to the TWAIN SANE Interface for MacOS X and installed the corresponding packages (front end and backend), but still the scanner is not recognized. Any ideas to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks.

Sorry for taking so long in responding to this problem. I was able to solve the problem with my Genius ColorPage-Vivid 1200X scanner. If you wish you can try what I did. Be aware that my scanner is not a network scanner (as yours is). It is connected to a usb port. Briefly, these are the steps that I followed to have scanning capability in my Mac.
Install the TWAIN Sane interface for Mac OS-X. I followed all the instructions as explained at the website: http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/, including the package that allows you to modify the SANE preference file using a GUI. A SANE icon will appear in System Preferences.
Go to System Preferences and double click Sane (for this you may need to administrator privileges). Check in the screen that appears, if your scanner brand or driver shows in the list. Check the configure button for your scanner, which will let you access to the configuration file. Look in the list until you find the specific model of your scanner. Delete the comment character (#) of all the lines associated to your scanner and click OK. Close the Sane screen.
Get the firmware file of your scanner. It should be located on the scanner installation disk.
Copy the firmware file above to the following directory:
/usr/local/share/sane/brand/ (This directory will probably need to be created. For that, you use Terminal with root privileges),
where brand is the driver name that you found in step (2) above.
Try the scanner with a scanner app like Image Capture or VueScan.
Good luck!

  • I would like to buy a flat bed scanner in the uk compatible with my iMAc 10.8.4

I would like to buy a flat bed scanner in the uk compatible with my iMAc 10.8.4. There seems to be a gap of information between Apple and say Epson on what drivers are suitable any Ideas?

If I look at a scanner from an online store and can't find whether it is Mac compatible there, I go to the manufacturer website and check for compatibility. Sometimes I'll find the Mac logo embedded in the scanner photo, other times I'll have to select the driver link and find if there's a download for the Mac OS I'm using.
So far every scanner I've ever bought (that wasn't years old on some fire sale table at Staples) has been Mac compatible. Of course sometimes when the OS is updated it takes time for the manufacturer to update the driver software (and sometimes it chooses not to) but since 10.8 has been out for almost a year the former isn't going to be a problem.

  • What I can do to make an older flat bed scanner work sucessfully with Tiger

I have an older flat bed scanner with a Adaptec SCSI Card 2906 Driver on a G4 system currently running on 9.2.2 it is a twain scanner. Does anyone know if I can make this work with Tiger? The scanner software has not been updated since 9.0 but works fine with 9.2.2. Is there a solution available, or will it be just fine - any ideas? Thanks

  • Scanner not recognized in PS CS5

New install of  PS CS5.  My scanner (HP 8300 Scanjet) is not recognized.  Still have CS4 installed and it is recognized O.K. there.  Any body know why CS5 won't recognize it?

I have CS5 and both 64-bit and 32-bit versions installed. In the 64-bit version I can access my CanoScan 8800F through the Via interface, which offers a very rudimentary functionality. For instance, when scanning four slides, instead of four images of one slide each, I get a single image of the slide holder with four slides in it. When I downloaded the Twain plugin from Adobe, I could use the full functionality of the scanner, but only in the 32-bit version of CS5 because the Twain plugin does not run in 64-bit mode.
    Best regards,
    Antero

  • Scanner not recognized by Photoshop

    Hi there,
I bought a new iMac G5 four days ago only to find Photoshop CS5 was not recognizing the scanner on my two year old Samsung SCX 4500 Printer/Scanner (the printer works fine). I downloaded the most recent Samsung scanner driver (1.0) and Photoshop still doesn't recognize it. Both Preview and Image Capture recognize the scanner which enables me to scan and then upload to Photoshop, but that adds a step I'd rather avoid. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of people are losing printer/scanner compatibility when they upgrade.
    Any thoughts on a fix?
    thanks

all the components for the mac can be found here:
    http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/
you want to first download libusb as a binary for 10.6
    http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/libusb-2009-09-10/10.6/libusb.pkg.tar.gz
    and then install it
then download SANE backends as a binary for 10.6
    http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/sane-backends-2010-01-17/10.6/sane-backends.pkg.tar.gz
    then install
then download TWAIN SANE Interface as a binary for 10.6 and install
    http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/TWAIN-SANE-Interface-2.9/10.6/TWAIN-SANE-Interface.pkg .tar.gz
    reboot, open photoshop,
you should now have a "sane.." listed as an option as you would your old scanner.

  • HP scanner not recognized by MacBook Pro 17" 2010

New Macbook Pro user (arrived from the factory last week) with OSX 10.6.8. Trying to get my HP scanjet 7400C to work. It's certainly not being recognized. When I look up how to install a scanner in the help it dumps me to the print and fax dialog. No indication in this dialog how to set up or use a scanner. No scan tab. No scanner options at all that I can see.
How do I install a scanner?

    Hello Jeff,
I have the same problem trying to connect an HP 7400C Scanner to my MacBook Pro 17" (2011) running Snow Leopard.  I tried downloading the drivers from HP Support Drivers (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw _lang=&product=59553#N160).  The web page indicates that it supports OS 10.3, but does not identify any later version of OSX that is supported.  When I download that package, it is not recognized as an installable image.
I am wondering what drivers and support software you downloaded and installed?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Image Capture: Scanner not recognized

Image Capture does not recognize my HP C5180 when it it plugged in. It prints fine and is recognized by the HP utility.
Since the update to 10.6.7 today, I am also having problems with my other scanning software.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the most up to date HP drivers after the update to 10.6.7

    piatigorsky wrote:
... What's worse, there are no new drivers for my machine in Software Update. Anyone know how to solve this?
I would say to not rely on the software update app to provide new third party software. brother and hp do a good job working with apple to get their software included, but many (like my canon) do not. also, the software might only be up to date for a certain length of time. I always check the third party peripheral company's support section for my specific product rather than use apple's blanket approach for all drivers for that brand. for example, the last time I had an hp update show up, I think it was around 300+ mb in size, or at least it was that much or more for initial installation. to download just the software for my specific hp model (which is rarely used in favor of my canon), it was <10mb.
the point is to check with the eom support site instead of waiting for apple to supply it for you. you'll get it faster it you check back often enough, and you'll only get what you need, not everything. go to hp's site, type in "model### driver" and it should get you right to the page to dl that software.
good luck. I will say that 10.6.7 and the latest safari have both been very disappointing for both functionality and speed. I don't think there is a direct connection though — except for 10.6.7 failing to work with my older scanner driver (the printer part still worked fine).

  • EPSON SCANNER NOT RECOGNIZED AFTER ML UPGRADE.

Mac Pro 2009,  8GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB, OSX 10.8.2
I hope I can make myself clear... I just upgraded to ML and right now I'm not so sure it was a good idea BUT I am going to struggle thru the issues...
The big issue is that I now have to replace Photoshop CS.
I do not want to replace my perfectly good scanner. When I select the scanner (epson perfection 4490 photo scanner) I get this popup window. No explanation on where to go from here.
I went to the Epson site and found the driver needed for this upgrade. It tells me to use the Mac Software update feature and download the correct update from there.
I did as directed and the needed scanner update is not there AND this is the only way it will work per Epson.
Any help will be much appreciated
    Wally

Thanks Eric - that would be a pain in the toot. I tried it and it looked like it was going to work. It recognized the scanner and let me do an overview and crop what I wanted but it would not let me change any options such as resolution, etc.. I started scanning, heard a few unfamiliar noises and the "no scanner available" message. I close Image Capture and reopened and get "no camera or scanner available".
    Thanks for your input Eric.

  • Just upgraded to 8.1.2 and Brother scanner not recognized

I've been using Acrobat Pro v. 6.0.6 with the Brother scanner just fine... update to 8.1.2 and it is not available to select as an Input Device from the Acrobat Scan window. I went back to try the previous version of Acrobat ( I still have v. 6 on my machine) and it still sees the Brother scanner as it has all along.
I'm on an Intel iMac running 10.4.10.
Let me know if you need any further info.
    Thanks for any assistance,

It didn't for me. I have the Brother MFC 7820N with the latest driver which used to work fine with Acrobat 8.1.1 but now when I scan it just freezes after asking for the file to save to. I have to Force Quit Acrobat to get out of it.
Photoshop CS3 and other applications have no problems with the scanner.

  • Scanner not recognized after first scan.

I have a new IMac and a Brother MFC-7860 DW. Today I scanned an image and then went to scan another image and Photoshop 6 would not recognize the scanner. If I turn off and on the Brother or restart Photoshop it recognizes the printer. This is ridiculous. Does anyone know how I can fix this.

  • Scanner not recognized in PS CS5 even after downloading twain plug-in

Am trying to get my Epson scanner (Perfection 3200 pro) to show up in the imports submenu. Have downloaded the CS5 TWAIN plug-in, and changed PS to start up in 32 bit. Scanner has current driver. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help!

Bye bye Epson.  A V300 photo scanner is NOT old but that response from their tech dept sounds all too typical.
I've had more trouble with the 2 Epson products I bought than with any other brand.  The v300 failed after 2 months and took weeks to be repaired.  My first R800 was doa.  By way of contrast, Canon devices perform superbly and their support is first rate.
Epson have a lousy telephone customer support system (operating out of Bombay I think) and an appalling online support (not that Adobe is much better).  And Adobe are far from guiltless.  ealier versions of Photoshop did recognise scanners for importing images and Adobe should have kept faith with the very many users who have used this facility with earlier versions of photoshop.  I hate it when two manufactures pass the buck back and forth like this.
