Flat file path

HI
While registering a location for flat file in control centre.Do i need to have flat file even in server machine and which path should i mention(client or server?)
Thanks,
Kiran

Hi,
I understood it in this way: You have to create two locations. The first on your local machine, where you have copies of your files to sample them (for metadata). The second location with the data files has to be a directory on the server.
I asked this question a few days ago, you can see it in this thread:
Understanding of Flat File / External Table on Client-Server-Installation

  • ABAP code for flat file path

    Hello,
    My hierarchy is loaded through flat file. This file is present in the application server.
    We have hard coded the filename path in our program in the production system as:
    DATA:p_fname LIKE rlgrap-filename value '
    A0001SAP\PACE_PRD\interface\BI\BO\PYD_PDL.CSV'
    Now, our pre production system is refreshed and hence after the refresh, the same path got copied in the pre production system and our process chain got failed as the path name is wrong. Same is the case in the development system.
    Please note: The file path is same in all the systems except the name of the system i.e.
    For development system, the name is PACE_DEV
    for preprodcution system, the name is PACE_PREPRD,
    for production system, it is PACE_PRD.
    Could anyone let us know, what global logic should be developed so that the process chain runs smoothly in all the systems?
    Thanks in advance for the reply.
    Regards,
    Nitin Chopade.

    Nitin Chopade,
    Put the path /file name on the selection screen.
    parameters: p_output(120).
    Then use that selection-screen field in place of the hard coded value.
    You can then change the path / file name at will.
    or
    Change the file '
    A0001SAP\PACE_PRD\interface\BI\BO\PYD_PDL.CSV'
    to                      '
    A0001SAP\PACE_&SYSID&\interface\BI\BO\PYD_.CSV'
    Assign the hard coded value to a variable, w_variable.
    Before you use the file:
    replace '&SYSID&' in w_variable with sy-sysid

  • Cube creation & Data loading from Flat file

    I am new to BI 7. Trying to create a cube and load data from a flat file.
    Successfully created the infosource and Cube (used infosource as a template for cube)
    But got stucked at that point.
    I need help on how to create transfer rules/update rules and then load data into it.
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

    Hi
    right click on infosource->additional functions->create transfer rules.
    now in the window insert the fields you want to load from flat file->activate it.
    now right click on the cube->additional functions->create update rules->activate it.
    click on the small arrow on the left and when you reach the last node(DS)
    right click on it->create info package->extenal data tab->give your FLAT file path and select csv format->schedule tab->click on start.
    hope it helps..

  • Flat file connection: The file name "\server\share\path\file.txt" specified in the connection was not valid

    I'm trying to execute a SSIS package via SQL agent with a flat file source - however it fails with Code: 0xC001401E The file name "\server\share\path\file.txt" specified in the connection was not valid.
    It appears that the problem is with the rights of the user that's running the package (it's a proxy account). If I use a higher-privelege account (domain admin) to run the package it completes successfully. But this is not a long-term solution, and I can't
    see a reason why the user doesn't have rights to the file. The effective permissions of the file and parent folder both give the user full control. The user has full control over the share as well. The user can access the file (copy, etc) outside the SSIS
    package.
    Running the package manually via DTExec gives me the same error - I've tried 32 and 64bit versions with the same result. But running as a domain admin works correctly every time.
    I feel like I've been beating my head against a brick wall on this one... Is there some sort of magic permissions, file or otherwise, that are required to use a flat file target in an SSIS package?

    Hi Rossco150,
    I have tried to reproduce the issue in my test environment (Windows Server 2012 R2 + SQL Server 2008 R2), however, everything goes well with the permission settings as you mentioned. In my test, the permissions of the folders are set as follows:
    \\ServerName\Temp  --- Read
    \\ServerName\Temp\Source  --- No access
    \\ServerName\Temp\Source\Flat Files --- Full control
    I suspect that your permission settings on the folders are not absolutely as you said above. Could you double check the permission settings on each level of the folder hierarchy? In addition, check the “Execute as user” information from job history to make
    sure the job was running in the proxy security context indeed. Which version of SSIS are you using? If possible, I suggest that you install the latest Service Pack for you SQL Server or even install the latest CU patch.

  • Logical path for getting a Flat file from application server

    Hi All,
    We have loaded some .csv files to application server, what is the logical path we have to mention in the infopackage scheduler screen? please guide me how to give the path for getting a flat file from application server.
    Thanks,
    Sairam.

    Hi Sairam,
    I hope you know which location you have saved in the Application server.
    Now if you go to the Infopackage and click on the "External Data" tab, there you will see Radio Buttons for
    1) Client Workstation
    2) Application Server
    Choose the second radio button, then in the Field "Name of the File" you will be able to use the F4 help and browse AL11 transaction through this option. You can then choose the File.
    Hope this helps

  • CAN NOT TRANPORT INFOSPOKE FLAT FILE DESTINATION PATH

    Hi,
        I am writing from infospoke to a flat file in application server. When I transported this to QA,  Application server Check box  is unchecked and path is changed to path in QA.
    Do I need to have Logical File name in order to transport. If I have 5 infospokes do I need to have 5 logical file names or is there any way to pass a parameter ... .
    Is there any other way to transport with out having File Name option instead of Logical File name?
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Hi Krishna,
    You would need an ABAP program to change the entry in the table RSBFILE.
    First try this. Goto se11 -> RSBFILE -> give your Infohub name and check if you have authorization to change the path.
    ELSE..
    Write an ABAP program and update the field.
    REPORT test.
    tables: RSBFILE.
    update RSBFILE set PATH = '<your path>' where OHDEST = <your Infobub>.
    Bye

  • Not able to edit Flat File Location path

    Hi,
    We are using OWB 11gr2. We have two control centers cc1 and cc2 along with the Default Control Center. There are two flat file locations ff1 and ff2. ff1 is registered to cc1 and ff2 is registered with cc2 . We are able to unregister ff1 and register again after changing the path. But for ff2, we found the parameter PATH is not editable during registration after unregistering from cc2.
    During the investigation, we have found the If we edit the Control Center cc2, the check box of all the data locations , available at right side ( Selected Location) are disabled and it is not possible also to detach the location, i.e. to move the location at left side ( Available Locations) . But for cc1, the check box are editable and we can move it to detach the location from control center. Please advise how to enable the path of Flat File location and how to enable the check box of available locations of the cc2.
    Thanks

  • Dynamic file name from input payload (RFC 2 flat file)

    Hi,
    I have an RFC to flat file scenario. The output flat file has not an XML structure, it's just a plain text file generated with abap mapping.
    In my source interface (RFC), I have a field called <FILENAME>, I want to use the value of that field to create the target file using dynamic file name. But if  in variable substitution I use payload:ZRFC_NAME,1,FILENAME,1 It doesn't work because the dynamic variable substitution try to access to output payload, not the source one...
    What can I do?

    Hi Marshal,
           You can add a extra node to your target strucutre like
    FileName- Node
    --FileName - Element.
    do the mapping from the field filename of RFC to FileName field in u r target strucure. And use this  field path at Refrence in variable subtituion.
    In the Content converison add the Name & Values as below
    FileName.fileldNames -- FileName
    FileName.fieldFixedLengths -- 0
    FileName.fixedLengthTooShortHandling -- Cut
    So the extra field in u r target structure would not populate in u r target text file.
    Cheers

  • Can we load data in variable screen from flat file?

    Hello all,
    One of my user once asked me she needs to run a report for some employees, i said you can just type that in employee varaible input box.
    She said I need to run the report and I need it for 120 employees, she has the employee numbers in excel sheet.
    What is the best way of doing this if any ?
    Thanks

    This can be done from a flat file, which has list of all values.
    If you are using Bex 3.5, then we have an icon in variable screen bottom right to upload values, where we can specify the path of the file.

  • Issue with uploading flat file from App Server

    Hi,
    Im loading a flat file to an ODS.
    When I try to load in from my Local Workstation, it works fine.
    All data is loaded green.
    However, when I try to load the file after i copied it to my App Server, it cannot load.
    The error is get is:
    Error 2 while splitting CSV data: see long text
    Message no. RSDS_ACCESS011
    Diagnosis
    Error 2 occurred while splitting the CSV data string.
    1 = Could not find a closing escape character
    2 = Invalid escape character
    3 = Conversion error
    4 = OTHERS
    The thing is that it worked fine (exact same file no changes) when I loaded from my Desktop.
    Appreciate any help or input.
    Rgds,
    Gary.

    Gary,
    You can load it from the App server. Just check the file name whther you are giving it correctly and also check the readio button from App Server.
    Go to AL11 (Tcode) and cross check whther your file is there. See in which directory your file is there. Mention the same path in the extraction tab in IP.
    Thanks...

  • How to Extract data to a Flat File?

    Hello,
    Im using OWB 10g and Oracle 9.2 version of database. I want to know the complete steps of creating the flat file as my target module. I need to extract the data (source) from the oracle tables and load it into the flat files. Pls let me know your suggestions. Pls note except the flat files, I do not have any oracle tables as my targets.
    Thanks,
    Kishan

    Hi, here's an excerpt from some notes I wrote a few months ago, they shpoud be clear enough.
    0) the file will be created on the server using the utl_file package. So the path where the file will be created must be added to the utl_file_dir Oracle Server parameter. Request your DBA to complete this step.
    -In OWB client:
    1) create a file location (or use existing one) under "Files/Locations" in project tree
    2) create a new Flat File module (or use existing one) under "Files" ; associate it with the desired location (not really necessary)
    3) create a new mapping in an Oracle module
    4) add to mapping a table operator bound to the table to dump
    5) add to mapping un unbound Flat File (FF) Operator, give it a meaningful name
    6) drag the desired attributes from table to FF Operator. This will instruct OWB to feed the file with comma-separated values from the source table using the utl_file package. Be careful to format attributes accordingly to the format you want.
    7) reconcile outbound the FF Operator, creating a new flat file in the module created during step 2
    8) close mapping, right-click on it an from menu "Configure..."->"Sources&Targets"-><YOURTARGETFILE>, specify the desired output location and the output file name
    9) Open deployment manager and connect to runtime rep. If the FF location is new, register it by right-clicking+menu "Register" and specify parameters: operating system user/passawrd of the DB server, host and path where the file will be stored (must be the same added to utl_file_dir). ATTENTION: path info is stored in the generated mapping so be sure to redeploy mappings if changes occur
    10) deploy mapping, test execution
    11) OPTIONAL you can specify a different delimiter (TAB,etc) for the target file directly in its editor. But be careful then to reconcile inbound the FF op in the mapping before deploying.
    Cheers, Antonio

  • Unable to upload delimited flat file (Datastore)

    Dear All,
    Drilling down the tutorial:  ODI11g: Creating an ODI Project and Interface: Exporting a Flat File to a Flat File
    facing quite a problem while reverse-engineering delimited flat file (Datastore ->Model). No matter which type of delimited flat file is uploaded (txt, csv,prn), the system stayes intact while pressing "Reverse Engineering" button.  Changing to Fixed Flat File option reveals that the system uploads correctly only the first row - Header of the columns (second option from the top)..and ...of cource, all the rest of the rows were placed in the first column.
    I was preparing delimited flat files using Excel 2007 and  2010, in both cases no success. I tryied to create Fixed Flat File with Excel....confused completely since I could not realise how doing that?!

  • How to allow users to upload a flat file to BW

    Hi All,
    For a planning application I would like to permit our users to upload a flat file on their local desktop to the infopackage and execute the load.
    We would like to empower the users to prepare and upload their flat files into BW from their desktop without asking for BW support.
    Please let me know if any of you have followed this approach.
    Thanks
    Karen

    Hi,
    The possible steps..
    1. Create a small program and then give
    Selection Screen:
    FIle name : -
    Note: Ask users give always same file name i.e. xyz.csv
    Once user will give file name and execute it then file will save in Application Server (You fix the path like  /usr/sap/BI1/DVEBMGS00/work, you create seperate folder in Application server)
    2. Create a small Program with is using Events..
    REPORT  ZTEST_EV.
    DATA: EVENTID LIKE TBTCJOB-EVENTID.
    DATA: EVENTPARM LIKE TBTCJOB-EVENTPARM.
          EVENTID = 'ZEVENT1'.
          EVENTPARM = 'ZEVENTPARAM'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'RSSM_EVENT_RAISE'
              EXPORTING
                I_EVENTID                         = EVENTID
                I_EVENTPARM                  = EVENTPARM
              EXCEPTIONS
               BAD_EVENTID                            = 1
               EVENTID_DOES_NOT_EXIST       = 2
               EVENTID_MISSING                     = 3
               RAISE_FAILED                           = 4
               OTHERS                                    = 5
            IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
                     MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
                     WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
            ENDIF.
    3. Once user will upload the file in Step 1, then he need to run this Program,.
    4. You craetea Process Chain using this Event, then once User will run this program then the Data Loads will happen through Process Chain.
    Note: Eventhough this is lengthy process, it is protected 100%, because we are not giving any access to User, we just given reports/programs to execute.
    Thanks
