Flat rate for Apple Depot screen repair? Downside?

I'm sure I could have found a better place for this, apologies in advance.
My friend's A1226 display is glowing, but striped and basically not working. Took it to a store and they said $450 repair in-store, $350 for the Apple depot. Are they assuming the display is no good, even though it might just be the cable? Is that covering a display repair? Is there a downside to the depot service, is it warrantied? I suggested he take that route as I didn't want to be involved in repairing the LCD, expensive proposition and dangerous if I mess it up or the issue is not the LCD. Is it going to get to the depot only to have them say its more?
Appreciate any guidance you can give.

Here is my experiance with Apple Depot...
Like many 2011 macbook pro my screen started to act up and ended up turning off (reports of issues with the GPU - logic board)
Took it to Apple, gave me 2 options...
1-In store repair which would cost more than $900 only for the logic board 0_o
2-Depot repair for $310
Guess which i chose?!..
Sent my 2011 macbook pro on wednsday and recieved it on the following tuesday
Depot replaced my logic board, memory ram, screen hinges AND battery...
All for $310

I want to enter flat rates for travel costs in table T706F.
I have a figure with more than 2 decimals (0,066), but I cannot save it, because only 2 decimals are allowed for EUR.
I don't want to change the decimals for this currency.
I found OSS note 446116 which is release independent. It is a note of 30.10.2001.
It suggests to create a new currency e.g. EUR3 and enter translation ratio's and exchange rates.
This seems pretty drastic.
Do you know if there is another way to handle this issue?

I have checked it with consultants from SAP Brussels.
They confirm that OSS note 446116 can be used to create flat rates for travel costs with more than 2 decimals.
I will create a new currency (EUR3) with the description "for travel expenses only".

SPRO>Financial Accounting>Travel Management>Travel Expenses>Trip Reimbursement Amount>Reimbursement Amount Travel Costs>Define Flat rates for Travel Costs, in this path we can enter the reimbursement amount for trip country/ trip region. I created different reimbursement amounts for different locations(additional locations/regions can be created in table T702o for country US) for USA but in expense report its taking only default amount (0.36) that is already there for Country:US not the amount i gave (0.27) for different location even when I gave the location name in the expense report. Could anyone tell me what i am missing. Do i have create corresponding WT for these expense types based on location.

2 months already and still waiting for apple provider to repair MacBook

My girlfriend's macbook pro has the no video issue ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 ) We sent it to our local AASP from Honduras, they told us that Apple would refund everything, but it's been 2 months already and we are still waiting for Apple to send the materials.
Is that normal?

In the U.S. spreaking directly to Apple, you can ask for them to consider replacing your Mac within 3 weeks of sending it in, or three attempted repairs ont he same item. I suggest going over to the repair place, getting a case number they have with Apple, and contacting AppleCare directly.

Price for ipod 5 screen repair on one year warantee

i was wondering if the prices for repair were different or if they were free if you still have the one year warantee? i have a cracked ipod 5 screen and i was wondering if that's covered by the warranty, especially since it's a stress fracture that didnt result in dropping it, etc.

Generally a cracked or broken screen is considered accidental damage so is not covered by the warranty.
You can make an appointment at your local apple store and have them quote you a price. The usual procedure is to exchange your device for a replacement after paying the service fee.

Does the year 1 warranty include coverage for a shattered screen?

My MacBook Pro was shatteresd in my checked luggage on a recent trip. Does the year 1 warranty cover this? If not, does anyone know approx how much it is to fix?

The above answers are correct and AppleCare doesn't cover it either.
Here are some options to consider:
Look online for a replacement display (±$800 depending lon the size) DIY consider buying a tools kit
There are places that will do the repair and return it within 24 hours
Bring it to the Apple Store and ask them if they can send it to the "Depot." But I don't understand their policy for this. For example, I had the motherboard die on a 2006 MacBook. They quoted $435 to repair it in-house but $280 if they send it out to the Depot. They quote a flat rate for "repair" and then fix everything they find. The Apple Store sent it to the Depot. They replaced the Motherboard, top case, bottom case, battery, internal cables, screen bezel and a the SuperDrive for $280 TOTAL!

My daughter dropped her ipod touch in our driveway. The screen is now shattered. The device appears to still work, but she would get cut if she tried to use it. Are there any inexpensive repair alternatives to fix it? Thanks so much!

Flat Rate Quote for Macbook Pro Repair?

Is there a way to get a flat rate quote from Apple for a Macbook Pro repair.
My 15" Early 2008 model got soaked during a storm that damaged my roof. It's been intermittent since. The insurance company needs a repair estimate to decide whether to replace it or repair it. Apple chat/phone won't give me a nominal flat rate number in writing I can send to the insurance company. They want me to send it in and pay a large shipping charge. At the apple store they consulted a table that said it was about $350 if no water damage and $1200 if it was, but again that was oral. Nothing I can send to my insurance company.
Is there some way to get a flat rate quote from Apple?

You say the Apple store said, but you don't mention if it is the Genius Bar or not.
Since it is long out of warranty, you could just go to one of the many indendent repair stores that offer flat rates and get them to give you a written estimate. A Google search should turn up a bunch in your area.
