Flattening when shouldn't

I have Illustrator CS2, and work on a Toshiba Notebook in Windows. I have a Corsair 'Thumb'
When I save a file to the Thumb all my layers flatten. An option screen comes up and the 'link to' row as well as the next row, are grayed out. I check the box next to 'compression' and sometimes the first box (there are four).
some of the layers save, and others don't. Do I need to have more than one 'new layer' (even if there are several sub layers inside one layer)

Hi,
I've had a look through your application, and although you are referencing P17_application_key in your insert statement, if you look at your session state when on page 17, you'll see that p17_application_key is infact null.
In your code the page item is set to take it's value from the database, but it's not actually being populated from anywhere.
You could change the report column "APPLICATION_KEY" from "Standard Report Column" to "Display as Text (Saves state)" and then reference that in your insert statement instead of your page item P17_application_key.

  • PDF not fully flattened when exporting - Printing problems

I recently ran across a problem I haven't experienced before. I had designed a postcard in InDesign CS6, The client wanted the text from their old logo with a new graphic in place of part of the old logo (sorry if that sounds very confusing they replaced old logo graphic with one that is celebrating 40 years). I used the clipping boxes and imported both the new graphic and the old logo (cutting off the graphic of the old logo that they didn't want). Looked great on screen, my printed proof on my printer looked great as well. Exported using press quality, with trim marks to PDF and sent it to the print house.
The print house opened it in a program to mail merge and it still looked great on screen, but when it printed the graphic from the old logo showed through and I ended up with the new logo printed on top of the old logo (which my client obviously was furious about).
I've been doing this for 12 years with no previous problems, so this baffled me.  The printing house told me that they occasionally have this happen because their hi-tech printer is able to read hidden layers and just is too smart and that it is probably that the pdf isn't flattened enough.
First off, I need to know what I need to do to my PDF setting to make sure this doesn't happen again as I want what I see on screen to be all that prints.
Second, if the hi-tech printer didn't pay attention to that clipping path (and showed all the logo), but didn't mess up the grid of pictures on the card (all of which were in the same type of clipping mask), what caused it to do this?
Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
I think your pdf file is probably damaged. There is a tool called Advanced PDF Repair. I have used it to repair many corrupt PDF files successfully. Its homepage is http://www.datanumen.com/apdfr/  Maybe you can have a try.

  • Is there a way to stop colors flattening when encoding for the web and DVD

Hi. I am in post prod on my first feature film, which has some great horror dream sequences, lit red and green in the Mario Bava tradition. They really do look stunning in the original footage, with highly saturated crisp colors (We had a really great cinematographer) But when I try to create clips for the web, the colors flatten a lot. They look better on my i-phone than my Lcd computer monitor. doing DVD outputs also looses something, but less so. It depends on the playback equip. My plasma TV and upscaling dvd player make them look fairly good. The footage is progressive scan 25 frames per sec HD. (16:9 cropped to 2:35:1) Does anyone know the optimum settings for web encoding have just used 310x710 pixels using H264 compressor at 3000 kbts per sec

    Hey @Shellyschoon,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're having an issue setting up and installing your HP Laserjet P1102w printer wirelessly with your Mac OS X 10.6.8. I'd be more than happy to help you with getting up and running wirelessly today!
The HTML Config errors that you're getting seem to be an issue with your internet browser. Can I have you start by changing your default browser on  your Mac and giving the wireless configuration another attempt?
In order to change your Mac's default browser (preferably to Safari), you want to go to:
    Choosing a default web browser
    Open Safari (/Applications).
From the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the General button.
Choose your desired browser from the "Default web browser" pop-up menu.
Mac OS X: How to change your default email application or web browser
Once your default web browser is changed to Safari, try to run the HTML Config wireless setup again.
Let me know if this works for you. Best of luck!

  • Multiple layers flattening when opening cs6 file in cc

I'm working with a designer who is using cs6.  When I open his file in cc, 50% of his layers seem to flatten into a single layer in cc.  Any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks for the response Mylenium!  I've never run into any quite like this before.  He saves a PSD file in CS6 and I open the same file in CC and two of his folders that contain the bulk of the layers automatically got flattened into single layers.  Just by opening the file.  However, I had a separate person running CS6 open the same file and they have the same issue with flattened layers.  So it must be the method by which he's saving his file?  It just seems like I'm missing something obvious.  Not sure what scenarios would cause two large folders to turn into single layers just by opening the file somewhere else.

  • Free Goods being delivered when shouldn't be!!

    Hi All
I have a problem and I need some help.  To explain it easier I have outline the scenario below:
Free goods (discount type NA00) has been set up for customer Y, sales org 1000 and distribution chanel 12 though VBN1.   It is an exclusive free good so that when item A is purchased they receive item B free.  The "Free goods delivery control" has been set to B - Delivery only when main item is fully delivered.
Item A currently does not have stock and stock will not arrive until 30 September while item B already has stock in the warehouse.
Even though we have the setting B indicated for the delivery control, a delivery document can still be created.  When creating the delivery an information (green) message indicating  "Free goods group not complete" appears prior to creation (VL261) but you can still create the delivery for the free goods item only (item B).
I have tried indicating item A as complete delivery in the sales order but the same happens.  Also I am unable to create a delivery group for the item in the sales order so that ones out as well.
Does anyone know a way that we can stop this from happening so that item A and B are ALLWAYS delivered at the same time or item B can only be delivered after item A has been delivered.
Is there a way that we can change the message from an information (green) message to an error (red) message?
The customer does not want to customise their system through ABAP which will be maintained by SAP in later releases. They want to do the least amount of ABAP and stick with configuration where possible.
    Cheers
    Tammy

    Hi,
See as your stock is not available for the item A then give the delivery block to item B.
So that it will be not open for the delivery. This is the one way which you can do it.
Now your stock for item A will available from 30sept but i donu2019t know whether this situation will happen other month also or not.
So other this you can do is change the material availability date of the item B also.
So if you change that setting and make is similar to your item A then also you can solve your problem.
Like giving the pick pack time or loading time to the item B which will increase the material availability date of your item.
But for one time issue you should use delivery block.
And if its occurring every month then change the availability date of your item B.
    Regards
    Raj.

  • Illustrator making objects transparent when shouldn't

I just recently upgraded to CS5 from 3 on Windows XP.  I created a graphic with some design elements to make it a little 3D looking and exported to a PNG with transparent background for powerpoint. When the graphic overlays another, parts are transparent where they should not be. There is not a single object (grouped or individual) that has the transparency less than 100%. The parts that are transparent are where an overlayed object has a multiply setting in the Transparency palette. Does this make sense? I basically designed three puzzle pieces that are going to be animated in powerpoint and float over eachother. I am happy with the area around the puzzle to be transparent, just not the puzzle piece itself.
    Thanks in advance.

I checked the settings of a built in button from the symbols palette and saw no difference in setup.
I ended up duplicating the entire object and removing the "effect" object and sending to back which made the object non transparent.

  • Battery flattens when going through Airport Securi...

On a recent trip abroad whilst taking my Nokia 5230 for the first time I noticed once it passed through the security scanner, with the phone switched on, when I went to use it the battery was completely flat.  I had only charged it the night before.  Exactly the same happened on my return journey.   Obviously the phone was not on my person but in my hand luggage in the tray provided.
Fortunately I had my N78 with me and this was unaffected.  Next time I go abroad I'll switch on my 5230 before it goes through the security scanner.  Just wonder if that will make any difference.  Has this happened to anyone else?

You would perhaps expect an increase in power consumption of device trying to maintain signal within airport confines but not to this degree.

  • Hard Drive Partitioning, Hard Drive Full When Shouldn't Be Etc.

    1. Disk Utility shows Mac HD has 497 GB used out of 500 GB. This is impossible. I am a writer and save very little data, nor do play any games, nor save music on my Macbook Pro. I have no idea how to fix this. I deleted the trash, etc.
    2. In disk utility, when I attempted to partition my hard drive, it says, "This partition is the startup disk. It cannot be erased." I have no idea what that means.
    3. Ultimately, I am trying to upgrade to Mavericks, and when I try to do so, it says, "You need 4.93 GB of available space to download OS X Mavericks. Remove items from your startup disk to increase available space."
    Please help!

Seemed to be the result of some kind of sparseimage. I deleted it using OmniDiskSweeper. Seems fixed.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Image flattens when zooming

Of late whenever I zoom into or out of an image PS CC flattens the image without prompting.   would rather it not do this.   Is this a bug or have I inadvertently set some preference that is causing this.

    How _exactly_ are you zooming?

  • Flatten or Lock a fillable pdf when user presses submit button

Hi.  I've been searching all over the net trying to figure this out.  I have a form that I created in LiveCycle and in the form I inserted a "REGULAR" button, with the following script:
//Create a variable to hold the document object
    var
    oDoc = event.target;oDoc.mailDoc({
    bUI
    : true,
    cTo
    : "[email protected]",
    cSubject
    : "New Procedure - Operator "+TextField1.rawValue+" - ID "+TextField2.rawValue,
    cMsg
: "Attached is the New Procedure form for Operator "+TextField1.rawValue+" - ID "+TextField2.rawValue+".",
This script is emailing to "[email protected]" and populating the subject line and body of the message with some text and some items from fields in the PDF.
I want to have the PDF locked or flattened when the user hits the submit button, to ensure that the information put in the PDF isn't altered after they submit it.  I cannot find any way of doing this easily.  I found a script that will flatten the message (below), but I don't know how to add it to the email script I have noted above.  I don't want to add a second button to the form as I want to keep it as simple as possible for the user.
Any suggestions someone might have would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
    Ryan

The link at the bottom of the blog post takes you to Acrobat.com where you can download the file.
Just tested it, the lin k is working fine for me.

  • Error message when opening CS6 files in earlier versions

    PSCS6 with 12.0.4 update.  Mac OSX 10.8.2   16GB 1333 Mhz DDR3  543 GB Available
I've recently become aware that other people are getting an error message when opening many of my my psd files if they are on earlier versions of PS and also on PSE, (including the latest version).  The message is:
This document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable.  To preserve the original appearance instead, choose flatten to load composite data as a flattened image.
Three options follow:  Flatten  Cancel  Keep Layers
When 'keep layers' is selected the file opens as normal.  However, people with much earlier version (CS version 8) don't get the option to keep layers, and the layers are flattened when the document is opened.
I still have CS5 on my mac, and I find that if I take my finished file into CS5 and save it there, the customer does not get the message above, and the file behaves as it should.  Those on very early version of PS can also open the files without any issues.
I've been using CS6 since it was released and have had to delve through all my files and save them in CS5.  Not every file is affected and I've been unable to find a common thread.
Hoping someone can throw some light on this.

This similar to the message one should get in an older version of photoshop such as photoshop 7.
If one presses ok instead of read composite that might preserve the layers with the original look.
But sometimes if a layer blending mode or some other feature is used an earlier versions of photoshop doesn't have, reading the composite is the only way to preserve the look of the image.
You said your using shape layers?
If they are shape layers you didn't use a stroke from the tool options bar?
Can you post an example of the image with the layers panel visible that you get that message with?
I guess your using photoshop cs6 with the 13.01 update?

  • AICS2 flattening causes massive color shifts in nontransparent objects

Seems like I should find this here, but searching for "flatten" didn't do the trick. And I apologize for not knowing the answer to such a simple question. It's just never come up for me before!
I have several files all created the same way that and PDFs from them will not print properly on the color inkjet system my local Staples is using. They're asking me to flatten the files before creating a PDF. (Perhaps another vendor might work, but I think I should know how to properly flatten my files in Illustrator.) Here's the setup...
A bottom layer contains a bunch of embedded PNGs to create a map. Over that, different layers have text and stroked paths. Some of the layers are made transparent (in different percentages). Some are not transparent. My Document Color Mode is RGB, all my colors are RGB and my PNGs are RGB. Seems relatively simple. Now here's my problem...
Even though my first test PDF looks right on screen, it printed improperly: all transparent objects were more or less ignored by the color printer. (All opaque text knocked out very well.) So they suggested I flatten my file in Illustrator, then export a PDF. I've been trying to do the flattening and can't get it to work. No matter what settings I apply the bottom layer of PNGs gets "ghosted:" it shows up looking like it's been reduced to about 30% "transparency" or tint.
As a test, I made a new layer and put a simple color rectangle on it. I turned off the PNGs layer, and tried to flatten. The color rectangle was also ghosted. In one case (can't remember exactly what setting were being applied), PARTS of the rectangle were ghosted, and other parts remained the solid color. (I've also seen the same effect applied to the PNGs: parts of them are ghosted, parts not.)
I have tried pretty much every combination of options I can think of in the Object > Flatten Transparency dialog box. I have tried setting the transparency Appearance of the layers to Multiply instead of normal. I have tried applying transparency to the objects themselves, instead of to their layers. Nothing will prevent AICS2 from ghosting (tinting, call it what you will) the color rectangle or the PNGs, even though they have no transparency applied to them.
Obviously I have no idea how to proceed. I've used transparency effects in Illustrator (love'em) before, and have had no problems with printing from InDesign. But Staples needs a PDF.
And oddly, if I export a JPEG, all the transparency effects have been applied perfectly correctly. Perhaps that will be my final workaround, but for learning purposes I'd like to get this "flattening in Illustrator" business at least somewhat working. Any advice will be appreciated. I'm going crazy!

Thanks for lending a hand. Mordy's article seems to me to deal mostly with recovering transparency after making an EPS. So I'm not sure what it has to do with flattening within a supposedly original AICS2 document. The article and its comments do mention flattening when printing, as does your post #4, Wade.
Are you telling me I can't successfully flatten the relevant layers within my document, and have them stay that way? I'm not printing these files. I might be able to ask Staples (or any other print shop) to print them in a special way, but that really seems kind of clumsy.
I tried a test. Following what I think Wade meant for me to do, I used the AICS2 print dialog, with the settings as in post 4, and saved as a PDF instead of actually printing. I then printed that PDF and the problem PDF on my Brother laser printer, and noticed several differences. The old PDF didn't have some of the transparent elements on it. The new one did have them. So I'm hoping that "Printing to PDF" may have solved the immediate problems.
If the only way I can successfully flatten these files is when "Printing to PDF," what's the use of having a Flatten command in the Object menu? Am I still missing something? It would be very helpful to be able to flatten the layers that need flattening, and leave them that way. (They are static. I'm finished those layers. They aren't going to change any more.) Then I could work on other layers in the meantime and just do a regular old "Save as PDF" when needed.
Anyhow, it's great to know I might be able, with your kind help, to have these files print correctly!
